J2K. Was this phrase not asking to be coined? Now it has, and for good reason. Jesus 2000 is a compilation from EMI Gospel that unites the upper echelon of urban gospel talent. Kim Burrell, Commissioned, Anointed, and several others submit their gifts to the producing genius of Montrel Darrett. Even with the diversity of artists, there is a seamless flow between songs. The music drifts through the air like leaves in an autumn breeze. Any one of these songs could stand alone, but rather than showcasing talent, this project has the feel of a community of people gathered together for a combined effort. Each vocalist exudes an intensity that is driven by the sacred quality of the message. And that message is simply this: The truth that Jesus embodied 2,000 years ago is still the model for how to live in the world today. It's a must for any urban gospel fan living in this millennium. --Israel Button
Customer Reviews:
Outstanding Contemporary Christian Music!!.......2001-08-07
Anyone that is familiar with Montrel's work, will not be disappointed with this CD. It is a must have for Gosel music lovers looking for a young R&B sound with word filled lyrics. For anyone that has Damita (or Detrick)Haddon, Mary Mary, or any of the other contemporary gospel artists out today, this CD is a must buy! The beats and sounds are more of what young people today want to jam to without sacrificing their Christianity. This CD has a very good variety of songs (upbeat & slow) that will make even secular music lovers stop and ask you what you are listening to.
Ministry.......2000-08-23
First of all, those who believe commissioned is washed up and has ridden off into the sunset, need to rethink that notion. Most of the artists that appear on this album are relative newcommers; Montrel obviously knows that Commissioned has lost none of it's potency, and is just as inventive as ever. Commissioned always delivers ministry and always comes correct musically. "Before It All Falls Down" is the most beautiful song on this album. Harmonies and vocals are woven together with adept synchrony, in a way no other group has been able to approach. Ministry, as always is the primary objective. "Delight yourself in the Lord, and He'll give you what you're looking for, before it all falls down." Profound lyrics hammer home, stiring the listener to take action concerning their walk with Christ. Other songs, such as "Woman", with Kim Burrel, "The Kind of Man that God loves," with Cynthia Pasley and "Draw me closer," with Felicia Darrett, tug at the heart strings with messages of truth. This album is a must have, but not every muscial offering brings with it divine inspiration.
HOLY ALL-STARS MAKE THIS ALBUM A HIT!.......2000-04-27
I have this cd...This is one of the best compliation albums ofthis year. Montrell Darret produced this and he did a superb job.Astandout on this album is ministered by Men of Standard(LOVE), it is very urban and sung with sheer precision.Another cut is performed by the group Anoited(HELP HIM STAND),it is very radio friendly and I can see it being played on a secular radio station. This album is not your typical thrown together all of the heavy hitters on one album and let's make some loot type of record because there are also some "unknowns" such as Montrell's bride on the cut DRAW ME CLOSER which is excellent. The last cut(PROPHETIC MILLENNIUM 2000)is a spoken word cut and is very.......prophetic!I highly recommend this album to the saints and the unsaved alike who want something very different but ministers to your soul just the same.Well worth the money.
