I love Take 6. I almost wore out their CD "So Much 2 Say" I loved it so much. Then I bought their "Beautiful World" CD and was disappointed they were going instrumental on me! Not to fear, Take 6 came back to their A Capella roots with a vengeance! This CD is just incredible! I have sang in A Capella groups for years, but never produced anything remotely close to the amazing blend that is Take 6. Incredible vocals, outstanding lyrics and brilliant arranging! Buy it!

What can I say about Take 6...This CD is just another reminder of how great and untouchable Take 6 is. I met them in person, they're great guys with phenominal musical talent, funny and down to earth. The baddest contemporary/Gospel/Jazz/R&B/Acapella vocal group ever.

For me, a hard-core Take 6 fan, this is their best work since their original album. It might be their best work, period. I have it on my ipod and cannot stop playing it. They've enhanced their unique acapella stylings with updated arrangements (see "More Than Ever"). The range and intensity of this album makes it a classic. There is no better vocal group in the world. I defy anyone to listen to the title cut and not be uplifted.

Man, when i listen to this album, all that I hear is the fun that they must've had while recording it. It sounds like they kicked it in the studio, And, this album just feels good, too. Plus, they just sound phenominal together. This album, in my opinion, is their best album. I would be listening to it right now, but I let my dad borrow it and I ain't seen it since. Shoot, I can't even blame him. I mean, I like genres like hiphop, r&b, neosoul, smooth jazz, etc., but I have got to say that this album is topping all the other albums I have in my collection. Man, I love this album!!!

Sweet Honey in the Rock send their joyful noise throughout the audience on this soundtrack to the Raise Your Voice documentary, part of PBS's American Masters series. As the all-female a cappella group traces American gospel to its African roots, they all but dare listeners to resist becoming part of the music. A strong social conscience informs material such as "Joan Little," an expression of solidarity with an abused prisoner, and "The Ballad of Harry T. I bought this CD on a whim after watching a PBS special on Sweet Honey in the Rock, and absolutely love it. The group has an amazing, cohesive, in-tune sound. Buy this CD for "Ship of Zion", "Harry Moore", and "Women Gather". A must have!

The vocalist's 1984 solo album has proven in many ways to be the blueprint for the iconoclastic career to come. Following his more mainstream debut, 1982's Bobby McFerrin, The Voice is a daring idea: an unaccompanied, live solo vocal album. Although there's little here that augers the explicit interest in classical music that would later be apparent, The Voice showcases McFerrin's remarkable vocal abilities, unabashedly optimistic personality, and willingness to take risky ideas to their logical conclusion. The son of opera singers, McFerrin is grounded in the vocalese style of King Pleasure, Jon Hendricks and Eddie Jefferson, but is only nominally a jazz singer. Rather, his omnivorous interest in music becomes obvious here with covers of James Brown's "I Feel Good," the Beatles' "Blackbird," Duke Ellington's "Take the A-Train," and a medley that manages to incorporate both Charlie Parker's "Donna Lee" and the Tin Pan Alley standard "We're in the Money." I've been a fan of McFerrin's for years, and I bought this CD after having had the privilege of singing with him, and wanting to hear some more of his live/improv stuff. The CD is great -- really gives the flavor of his improvisational genius, and his warm sense of humor and joie de vivre.

I know that calling him the Dalai Lama of Music may sound a bit extreme, but he is truly a magical and charismatic person -- the joy that he has in music and his life shows in his face every time he sings. He is truly an ambassador for music, and I wholeheartedly recommend not only this wonderful, fun album, but also to take any opportunity you have to see this man perform live (his real forte) -- and sit as close to the stage as possible! I guarantee you will never forget it.

This is Bobby McFerrin's true solo debut. His previous, eponymous album had backing singers and musicians; the cuts on this album are all truly solo (save for a song or two when he assigns the audience the role of rhythm and harmony backing), and among them are mind-blowing examples of what would make his work truly memorable and unique.

The three best cuts are his rendition of McCartney's "Blackbird" (only three audible but soundless intakes of breath in the whole song! is it due to singing while inhaling or circular breathing! ), a hugely infectious rendition of James Brown's "I Feel Good," and a delightful original composition, "I'm My Own Walkman," which says just what he is and does.

Most of the other cuts are pleasurable or interesting, and pave the way for his next and greatest (largely) solo voice work on _Spontaneous Inventions_.

Acappella is a little known Christian group that has released a series of outstanding CD. Some offer original songs (Like the now classic "Criminal on the Cross"). This CD offers a cappella arrangements of patriotic songs, perfect for any time of the year.

The list reads like a check list of the best known. They've got great renditions of "America," "God Bless America," "The Star Spangled Banner," and "My Country 'Tis of Thee." I was especially happy to get their upbeat version of "God of our Fathers." I've just learned this song recently and am glad to have a recorded copy of it. I also enjoy their version of "God Bless the USA."

About the only misstep on here is "America Medley." I probably would have liked it more if it had come at the end. In the middle, it just feels a little weird to hear parts of songs we've heard and songs we have yet to hear.

This CD will take a little extra effort to track down, but anyone who enjoys patriotic music and the a cappella sound will be glad they did.

This album is done by the masters of Christian acappella, Acappella, and stands on its own as a great patriotic work.     There are many different versions of U2's tribute albums!
    I have tried the Bluegrass and Ethereal versions, however, no one could attract me.
    This one is just the one you should get if you love U2.

    This double CD and booklet was issued last year. It follows Rounder Record's "Early Shaker Spirituals" which is a recording of the Shakers themselves singing some of their early music. These new CDs are again the Shakers singing their songs, but covering the timescale of 1833 to 1914. The music and interviews on the CDs were recorded between 1960 and 1980. The booklet is written by Roger Hall, an authority on Shaker music, and discusses not only the music and interviews in the set, but also much other relevant material including a useful discography, and comments about the Shakers and their musical history.

    Some of the interest of these recordings is in the historical place of twentieth century Shakers celebrating their faith through music. The quality of the recordings is not brilliant but this reflects the fact that much of it comes from LPs made in 1960. The music itself is fairly Victorian to listen to, but the words are quite inspiring. The use of the organ in some tracks reflects the fact that Shakers began using instruments and singing parts after about 1870. Of particular interest to me were the interviews, including a 24 minute track where Sister Mildred Barker speaks of her experiences as a Shaker. This is of great value as she was one of the most inspirational and forward looking Shakers of this century.

    This is a must for those who are seriously interested in the development of Shaker music. It is also a must for anyone who is interested in Shaker religion and how it is reflected in their music.

    RP's first Christmas album is a lot of fun, for new fans and die-hards alike! Da Boyz showcase both their vocal talents and their sense of humor on this CD. The covers are fantastic - I love "White Christmas" and "Silver Bells" (although I prefer later recordings of the latter tune, which feature Jeff Thacher's amazing vocal percussion and "sleigh bell" imitation). Of the originals, "Holiday Groove" is my favorite; if only Elliott could be convinced to re-record it! "You're My Christmas" is a very romantic holiday tune, and makes me melt every time I hear it. "Give" reminds listeners to keep the spirit of love alive at Christmastime: "Love may be the only thing you got to share, but love's enough, so give." "We Got a Happy Holiday," "Hula Holiday," and "Island Christmas" display that sense of humor I mentioned earlier, while "Presents" gives an unique (and, in my opinion, accurate) take of the greed which runs rampant during the holiday season.

    While "Bash!" pales somewhat in comparision to Rockapella's other holiday collections, it will still captiviate and enchant.

    This album is joy to listen through and through. The originals on this album are very well done. The traditionals are done with Rockapella flare. Great arrangements and funny lyrics make this album a gem! Wait till you hear "Island Christmas" written by "BEAR". Best track on the whole CD. I can't wait for their new Christmas album. They are redoing some of thier older works!! Can't wait! Get this now I tell ya!

    It's a must-have for any Rockapella fan, and a good buy for any fan of vocal pop. I've worked with these guys and been to many of their live shows, and one thing can surely be said of them: not only have they arrived, they're gonna be around for a long time. Their style is fresh and innovative, the team of voices in the current group is very nearly perfect, and the production value of their product continues to be superlative. For those not wanting to get their feet wet with an import, try *Rockapella 2*. In addition to some fabulous studio production, Scott Leonard's original songwriting must be heard to be appreciated.

    I have been a Rockapella fan for years, and have just found the best way to get their CD's. BASH is a superb Christmas album with a great mix of Traditional and New songs. Of course the Traditional is done the Rockapella way...and we wouldn't have it any other way! I have been listening to this ever since I got it, and it's not even Christmas yet. A must for any and all Rockapella fans!!!
