Where is "Look at California?".......2007-05-20
I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but if someone can help me out with this, I would be grateful. If the concert is in LA, and FB&M are FROM LA, wouldn't it make sense to have the song "Look at California" on this DVD? Or am I missing something? Even though I'm opposite the "left coast," these brothas and sistas should at least get their props. Otherwise I'm sure its all good. I will have to pray over the purchase of this DVD.

Searched for and purchased this CD for my Dad at his request. It came in perfect condition and in perfect time for his 61st birthday gift! Thank you
Frankie's rap to "Before I Let Go".......2003-09-30
On the album, Frankie did a short rap to the chorus of "Before I let go." Why doesn't the CD have the same thing? My entire Maze album collection was destroyed and I am trying to replace it with CDs. But the one song I really wanted to be like it was on the album is not on the CD. Can anyone help me?

Album Description
Ferry Corsten is one of the biggest names in Trance music. He's sold hundreds of thousands of mix CDs around the globe (from his Trance Nation CDs for Ministry of Sound to his World Tour CDs for Purple Eye and not forgetting his two Global Trancemissions CDs for Moonshine.) Ferry's original productions are some of the biggest hits in Trance history. He records under the names System F and Gouryella as well as Ferry Corsten. His latest single "Punk" is without doubt THE anthem of last year. You have to check out the crowd reaction to "Punk" as he drops live at Spundae, Los Angeles' superclub - no other DJ fires up the club like Ferry Corsten.
As an added bonus to the CD, Mixed Live comes with a bonus DVD - this features a 5.1 Surround Sound mix of the set as well as a new, exclusive documentary on Ferry and the recording of the show. Also on the DVD is the full, uncut version of the "Punk" music video and a slide-show of pictures taken inside of Spundae during the show. Mixed Live is the only compilation series to be recorded live at the club in surround sound - just the DJ and the crowd captured in a moment.

Still a favorite!.......2007-02-15
I have had this CD since 2004. This is an album that is and will be timeless for me. It is by far my favorite Ferry Corsten Mix. If you are a fan of Ferry Corsten, or trance in general, you just cannot go wrong in purchasing this cd.
great CD.......2006-12-21
i find that there are a few songs in the middle of this album that are way to electronic for me, but the first few tracks and Punk, Understatment and a few other rock. So overall considering how many tracks are on this album, its a great CD.
REAL Trance.......2005-05-09
Let me start off and say this album is fabolous, and by far Ferry's best album. The songs flow perfectly together, and provide so much uplifting, emotional energy...both melodic and epic trance that will make you melt.Any true appreciater of fine trance music will know right away that this is NOT amateur garbage(like some of the new trance)And to top that,it is live, who could ask for more?Way to go Ferry!I wish all of Ferry's albums could be as slammin'as this one.If your looking for a cd like this one,you wont find it on any of his cd's...this one is quite different from the rest.Any dance/trance music fan should go out and buy this album NOW!
flawless live set!.......2004-12-31
fc picked out some really great tracks for this set! and you can tell that by the crowd singing along to his own track "punk". the bonus dvd really makes me wish i was there that night =(
Great CD!!!.......2004-08-29
I'm a big fan of Global Trancemissions Vol. 1 and 2 so I had to get this one. There are a few tracks toward the middle that I'm not particularly fond of, but the first 4 or 5 tracks are excellent.
Overall it's a great CD that any fan of Ferry Corsten should have. If you like Global Trancemissions, you'll like this one.

Album Description
Perhaps the most high-powered tribute band in the history of rock, Hand of Doom is the supergroup side project of Melissa Auf Der Maur (Auf De Maur, Hole, Smashing Pumpkins). Formed in homage to the mighty Black Sabbath, Hand of Doom (which features Auf Der Maur doing her first real turn on lead vocals) recorded their debut live on LA's Sunset Strip during now-legendary shows at the Whisky, Troubadour and Spaceland.
Hand of Doom gives their own high-energy spin to such Sabbath milestones as "Paranoid" and "War Pigs," while adding contemporary touches like turntables, a DJ and - in the role of Ronnie James Dio - guest lead vocals by Nick Oliveri of Queens of the Stone Age!
Customer Reviews:
Just another sabbath tribute in my book, I just don't think its that spectacular.......2006-10-20
I myst be in the minority on this CD, but I did not think it was anything special. I picked it up about 4 years ago when it came out, seeing Jack osbourne's comments on the cover thinking, hey, it's cheep and it might be good. Well, it's ok, but nothing to write home about. Yes, It's unique in the fact that a female, Mellisa Auf der Mauer does the vocals, which is cool, but I don't think its anything spectacular. I think the mastering makes it sound a bit rough, but otherwise, their unique vocals, and definitely are not Ozzy or anything close. The band sounds like it lacks something as well, I Think it may be the heaviness of the bass or the distortion on guitar is less, or maybe lighter strings, but it just didn't carry the heaviness that strikes me as sabbath, again, that could be the mastering as well. Prior reviewer's seem to give this group more credit in their tribute music than Toni Iommi for writing it, and the subsequent groups that Were labeled "black sabbath" after ozzy left. The live albums they put out with Dio and Tony Martin on vocals were as good as this and just a intense, but had the backing of Toni Iommi. I wouldn't go out of my way to purchace this CD, but the used price is nice here on Amazon, and it is a better tribute than many of the others. So if you collect tributes, this may be one for you.
Melissa ROCKS!!! Does Ozzy better than Ozzy!!!.......2004-11-08
I am not a huge fan of Black Sabbath by any stretch, but I am a huge fan of good metal done well. Melissa and company completely deliver, and I am impressed how these songs are made "fresh" after hearing the "tired" sounding original versions by Ozzy & co. I think that Melissa's performance alone makes this cd worth while, even though the band's performance is definately up to par. She keeps the Ozzy "schtik" up throughout, and it makes for an interesting listen. The set list granted is not very adventurous (I personally miss "Sweet Leaf" and "Sabbra Cadabbra"), but the only sub-standard moment is "The Mob Rules" towards the end, the one song where Melissa is nowhere to be found. Yes, I am a big fan of Melissa Auf Der Maur's work (Hole, live Smashing Pumpkins, and solo cd), this is absolutely no low point of hopefully a very long career! Cheers and "flash the metal" proudly while playing this cd loud!!!
Good performances, but too much of a carbon copy........2004-05-01
The recording is good, the instrumental players are skilled, and Melissa Auf der Maur's vocal performance contains enough attitude to compensate for its shaky pitch and lack of range.
So what's the problem? Like so many others (even the ever-inventive Faith No More) who have covered Black Sabbath songs, Hand of Doom has stayed entirely too true to the original arrangements and sounds. Black Sabbath is the kind of band that holds a mystical power over its acolytes and it's not surprising that musicians who love the band have a preconceived notion of how these songs should sound. But the tracks on Hand of Doom, though I enjoyed them, sound so close to the originals that I wondered why I didn't just put on the original band. Auf der Maur's female vocals make them minutely different, but I definitely wish Hand of Doom would have been more inventive and done different things with these iconic songs.
And another thing: Do we need to hear yet more renditions of "War Pigs", "Iron Man" and "Paranoid", three of the most legendary (and therefore most tired) songs in the metal canon? The track selection on this EP shows a lack of adventurousness, something Black Sabbath never lost sight of. I would have loved to hear less obvious cover choices such as "Megalomania", "Killing Yourself to Live", "Am I Going Insane (Radio)", "Supernaut", "Zero the Hero", "Trashed", "The Wizard", and "Cornucopia". Instead, we get the three staples from the Paranoid album, songs I wouldn't mind never hearing covered ever again.
Hand of Doom is not bad as music; it's just at a loss for something to say. Hearing a completely faithful cover band may be enjoyable as a live experience, but a record demands more. Why perform and record songs in exactly the same way as they've been done, and done quite well, 30 years ago? I'd definitely recommend Melissa Auf der Maur's idiosyncratic solo record in lieu of Hand of Doom.
Melissa Auf der Maur Rules!.......2004-02-17
The band sounds so much like original Sabbath it's scarey (the bulk of the material is from the Paranoid album); they've got the chops down to a tee. Just way too cool. Add the sexy scowl of Melissa Auf der Maur and you have a near masterpiece. Her vocals on top of this killer band can not be described by mere words. This is a must have for ANY Sabbath or metal fan.
Awesome.......2002-09-29
This is harcore stuff. Awesome vocals and extreme guitar playing. This CD is better than Sabbath's original stuff! This band is for real!

Commemorating the 25th anniversary of the release of X's blistering debut, Los Angeles, this 21 song live set shows the quartet to be as undiminished a force as ever. Sticking to fan favorites (their few stabs at chart success came after their initial burst and, having not aged as well, are passed over here), all of the essential elements are in place: D.J. Bonebrake's pile-driving wallop, Billy Zoom's nuclear rockabilly guitar, and John Doe and Exene Cervenka's tandem vocals. Now with all members blowing out candles on either side of the fifty year mark, it's remarkable that they sound as incendiary as they did in their twenties. They've not done anything to equal their first four albums, but it's a potent legacy worth celebrating. --David Greenberger
Album Description
The definitive live album from the quintessential L.A. punk band!
The musical history of Los Angeles can be divided into two distinct eras: "Before X" and "After X." X was one of the first U.S. punk bands, but by adding rockabilly and country elements, they were a major influence on the Americana/alt-country movement, not to mention subsequent waves of punk bands. X: Live In Los Angeles commemorates the 25th anniversary of the band's landmark debut album, Los Angeles. On this CD, the original lineupJohn Doe, Exene Cervenka, Billy Zoom, and D.J. Bonebrakecomes together once again to celebrate this milestone with a killer 21-song set of fan favorites.
Customer Reviews:
X - Very live!.......2006-01-12
I have been lucky enough to have seen X quite a few times and this is pretty close to the live experience. All that's missing is the sheer volume (which you can adjust to your neighbor's limits!), the swirling mosh pit and a sticky beer soaked floor.
There are a couple of songs where Exene seems to be phoning in the lyrics, but that's just how she is sometimes. She has this kind bored and detached coolness that you just have to like.
As usual, Billy Zoom, John Doe and D.J. Bonebrake hit it and hit it hard.
Also, John's voice sounds great. He is really a fine singer (check out his solo stuff too!!).
There is also some pretty funny banter between songs. I'm glad they left that in.
I'll have to buy the DVD to see how many time John knocks over his mike stand as he becomes consumed by the sheer power of it all and thrashes about, and to see Billy's million dollar smile!
Also, the packaging for this release it quite nice. Sometimes companies these days cheap out, but this is well done without seeming like a tribute. Good photos and liner notes by Flea. All in all, a job well done.
Cheers!
Advice to the lead singers.......2005-08-30
Especially to Exene--find a pitch and try to stay on it.
I'm fairly new to X..........2005-06-11
...and this cd blows me away. I only discovered them fully about a year ago and since then have tracked down everything X, Exene, John, Knitters, Aunti Christ, Original Sinners etc...and am obsessed with this band. Love that there is finally a live recording with Zoom. (although as someone else said, their 1988 live album with Tony Gilkyson is also awesome.) Get the dvd too. Both are incredible.
Just phenomenal.......2005-05-28
As the first reviewer stated, it is hard to believe this is a reunion show, rather than something from the mid-80's. Actually, I thought that John and Exene's vocals were fantastic- Exene seems to have gotten away from her attempts to "prettify" her voice, and back to her magnificent quirky self. It's so great to have a live recording with Billy Zoom (although the Live at the Whisky a Go Go with Tony Gilkyson is also entirely brilliant, and completely worth having). The version of Devil Doll on here is worth the price of admission alone. Play it at about "12" on the best sound system you can find. Bottom line- this is a fantastic album, whether you are a fan from way back or a new one.
Impressive!.......2005-05-22
Rock and roll reunions have become so common, almost inevitable, that it's little surprise that X has reformed (at least for this performance) to revisit their glorious past. And while most reunions generally serve as over-hyped, underwhelming exercises in ego-stroking financial opportunity (Sex Pistols and N.Y. Dolls take a bow!) X's motivations appear to be more sincere. No worldwide tour or cooperate sponsorship, just a night of good old fashioned R&R.
If I didn't know better, I'd swear this was a recording from back in the band's heyday. Billy and D.J., in particular, sound as if they have been preserved in some type of punk rock space/time vacuum where its eternally 1979 at the Starwood. Billy's Gretch Silver Jet is as lean and mean as ever while D.J. could be 21 years old for all we know. The only real giveaway, however, is John and Exene's vocals, which sound a little worse for the wear. Exene, in particular, sounds pretty rough. Of course, she always had trouble with pitch and timing. Still, this CD should be a part of any die-hard fan's collection. It can also serve as an excellent introduction to one of the most important bands of all time. Play it for your twelve year old nephew who thinks punk rock started with Nirvana!

Album Description
As far as Progressive rock is concerned, most of the criticisms heard during the last thirty years insist on the show-off virtuoso side of it, with a lack of emotions, sort of a technical window for musicians with incredible egos. This was actually one of the major arguments of the punk wave during the second half of the Seventies that had set as a goal (If they ever had one
) to get rid of the "Dinosaurs" that YES, GENESIS, EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER and others had become. It would be completely dishonest to deny this superficial and over simplifying reasoning a small hint of truth, but SEBASTIAN HARDIE could be a good example of the contrary
At about the same time, four anonymous people from down under tried to show that our favourite style can go very well with a lyrical, melodical and accessible music. Recorded in 1975, "Four Moments" is like a whole, if not conceptual, at least musical. This is a marvellous symphonic Progressive rock opus that shows very elaborate themes that have a perfect balance between lyrical keyboards and flowing guitar solos, harmonic vocals and refined themes. As a bonus, this jewel of refinement had a real commercial success as well as a huge consideration from the Progressive rock scene, that made them one of their absolute references. The following year, "Windchase" almost managed to recreate this incredible performance that was in itself extraordinary. This second and final album includes a suite of about 20 minutes, just to have us wait patiently for WINDCHASE's new album
The band of course! The complete discography of SEBASTIAN HARDIE is from now on reissued by Musea, as well as "Live In Los Angeles 1994". Reformed for the ProgFest 1994, this band led by guitarist singer Mario MILLO still shows a great melodical style. Don't miss it !

Customer Reviews:
Great recording for those who didn't get to see it live, and then some!.......2006-12-10
Upon hearing of the U.S. tour I was greatly overjoyed to know there would be a performance in my own city. It was also reassuring the same conductor who performed at this LA concert would be conducting here at Fort Worth's Bass Hall. During one of his chats with the audience he expressed surprise that the Texans weren't being so vocal in praise to which we gladly made up for--at the end of each performance, of course. We even got an encore of One Winged Angel! Though this wasn't the Advent Children version as was in LA and found on this CD. I kind of favor this version a little over the AC OST, albeit the recording quality isn't as good.
While the experience at Bass Hall was great it wasn't nearly as good as the one found on this recording. There are many tracks that went unheard. These tracks include four rock performances by Nobuo Uematsu's Black Mages (though they mostly seem drawn out too long), a Chocobo swing track and the opera track Aria Di Mezzo Caratte along with few other vocal performances from Final Fantasy IX(Melodies of Life) and Final Fantasy X(Suteki Da Ne) by the original singers!
Granted, there were a couple tracks I heard live that weren't on this CD, Vamo' Alla Flamenco being one of them (at least that I can recall), but I still would have rather been at the LA performance had I a choice.
The audience on the CD remains silent until the end of all the classical/opera tracks but do participate applause during the swing and rock songs.
All in all, I consider this recording superior to "20020220: Final Fantasy Orchestra Concert."
nothing new, too much rock/heavy metal.......2006-09-26
I like this because I haven't heard a couple of the tracks before, but there is too much heavy metal/rock on here. Not only that the heavy metal and rock tracks(three of them) are longer than the orchestral tracks so you end up hearing plenty of it and it's kind of hard to tolerate.
It seems as though they didn't tell those in attendance to not clap or make noise untill the end of the song. There's laughing, screaming, clapping and an arena speaker phone you hear during the performances.
Still though, there are some beautiful tracks and if you don't have those Final Fantasy soundtracks this will give you the best of sampling(except for the heavy metal).

Double live recording... it's great.......1999-07-30
This double CD contains songs from their earlier albums (Marsbéli krónikák & 1990), and it's a really great live recording. Recorded during their Progfest performance in 1994 I think. Sound quality is very good as well. You must hear how appreciative the crowd is, and with what words the band is introduced; it shows how highly they are regarded in progressive rock.

Customer Reviews:
AMAZING (MARCE).......2007-04-27
THIS GROUP HAS SO MUCH ENERGY AND THEIR MUSIC I SO UPLIFTTING , THEIR CONCERTS ARE GREAT IN THE TEMPLE BAR IN SANTA MONICA. I SEEN THEM IN SANTINOS ON TUESDAYS AND CAFE SEVILLA EN LONG BEACH ON THURSDAY THEY ARE ALWAYS SURPRISING.
los pinguos - great live band.......2006-06-06
When I first saw this band playing on the street at Third St Promenade in Santa Monica I couldn't tear myself away. They are amazingly energized and you can tell they are having a great time while they play. Have gone back to see them several times and also saw them at Temple Bar the night they were recording for the Live album.
Okay, so I admit I also have a crush on the lead singer. . . Anyway, I highly recommend checking this band out.
Los Pinguos #1 in my music book!!!!.......2006-04-10
I've seen Los Pinguos play at the 3rd street Promenade and they are just INCREDIBLE until I saw them play at Temple Bar(in Santa Monica) and MY GOD is all I can say!! I've never seen such a vibrant, colorful, energized show.
You can see in their faces how much they love what they do and seeing that just make their shows more enjoyable for me!!
You can't stay still.Their energy is so contagious and I will never miss one of their local LA shows.
If you have not seen them, PLEASE PLEASE take my advise and GO GO GO!!!!!!
great band.......2006-01-11
these guys rule. i took my girlfriend to temple bar one night not knowing who was going to be playing and it ended up being los pinguos. they put on a really fun, infectious show. the music was tight, layered (both harmonically and rhythmically) and catchy. plus they threw in a country song for the white boys like me. you pretty much can't go wrong with this album. not a lot of people know these guys yet, so you'll probably be the first kid on your block to own it. good times.
