David Mullen is better known these days as Nicole C. Mullen's husband. Back in the day, he had his own career. His music could not be different from his wife's.

His gritty vocals, in the vein of The Boss, Bryan Adams and John Mellencamp, stand out especially on this album. On After The Hurricane and To Be With You, he shows a softer, melodic side. On Under The Same Sun and Libby he showcases his power and ability to growl on tune.

This album is great for someone who, like me, doesn't like to hear song after song that sounds exactly the same. The songs range from soft ballads, to the 70s retro sounding Papa, to the strait up rock-n-roll of Faded Blues all infused with a lot of blues influence.

This is one you can listen to again and again without tiring of it.

    The catchy calypso opener, "Change Has Gotta Come," is a very good song. I also like "That's the Beauty of It," "Time," and "Hero." But on the whole, this album is a departure from the Stones style rock that Mullen mastered on the first album (Revival) and the Springsteen style rock of the second album, Faded Blues. By the way, Revival is one of the best contemporary Christian rock debuts of all time, filled with passionate R&B and acoustic blues roots rock numbers. And this self titled album just doesn't stand up to the earlier work. But I commend Mullen for trying to expand his musical reach. Having said that, try to find his debut album, Revival. You won't regret it.

          The Cantamus Girls Choir are a 40 strong female choir whose members are between 13 and 19 from the town of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. They have been a local institution since the choir was first formed 38 years ago. They continue to be an inspiration to a community that has suffered in recent years. In an age where we are bombarded by images of teenage pregnancy, drug taking and binge drinking, here is a window on another world of genuine youthful Endeavour, exuberance and dedication. There are sponsored sings and carol concerts to help fund the cost of hiring the coach that takes the choir to recitals all over the UK and Europe. This is no amateur operation, however. Through the network of helpers, voice coaches and relentless rehearsals, this is a multi award-winning group.           This is an amazing album which appeals to young toddlers and old dodderers. It is hard to believe that this breathtaking singing of both popular pieces like "Fix You" and "Everybody's gotta learn sometime" and a few standard classics comes from 13-19 year olds from the middle of England (Robin Hood country; a former coal-mining area)and not from a professional group.

          The girls' singing make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, give you goosepimples and bring tears to your eyes - in fact, give you a heart-warming experience!

          Buy the album for yourself. Send the single to all your relatives, friends, classmates, teachers. They'll love you for it!

          5 out of 5 stars Ragtime Orchestras from the late 1800's to early 1900's..........2000-10-13

          This historical and enjoyable CD re-issues some very rare Ragtime, but not you're typical Ragtime piano solo. This is ragtime being played by dance orchestras and small groups a the peak of it's popularity. Many people think of ragtime as just being played by piano, well during the late 1800's early 1900's ragtime bands were quite popular, though they didn't improvise(ragtime is completely written out) they are full of syncopation. Fans of traditional jazz will enjoy this, even though there is no improvising, there is a lot of hot syncopation, and it's just enjoyable music. Such lehendary bands as Arthur Pryor's Band, Edison Grand Concert Band, Handy's Orchestra and Eubie Blake Trio. Some highlights include Silence and Fun ["A Ragtime Oddity"] performed by Sousa's Band, Jazzing Around performed by Eubie Blake Trio, Coon Band Contest performed by Arthur Pryor's Band, Dallas Blues performed by Wilbur Sweatman's Original Jazz Band, and a highly enjoyable Music Box Rag performed by Victor Military Band. The music on this CD is joyous and fun, and is recommedned to traditioanl and vintage jazz collectors.

          I also have to highly recomend two CD's by a new band called The Paragon Ragtime Orchestra, they re-create the ragtime band of Arthur Pryor on their two finest CD's "On The Boardwalk" and "The Whistler & His Dog," both are essential.
