This CD is really good. The music is a great mix of rock and classical orchestra... really awesome band
Rock For Christ!! .......2007-07-04
Let me start off by saying this album is absolutley amazing!!!! There are no fillers here. Every single song could be released as a single! I highly recommend this album to all lovers of Christian rock. This album defintley ties with there 2004 album "Collide" for there best album yet. Skillet is really the best christian rock band out there hands down! From the very moment you hear the first track and single "Rebirthing," you'll be left absolutley speechless and amazed at how wonderful and breathtaking it is. It will suddenly make a christian remember the first time they accepted Jesus Christ into there life as Lord and Savior, and became a new creation and are now living for love just as he did.
So please do yourself a favor and buy this now! You won't be disappointed by any means!! Skillet continues to deliver great awesome Christian rock tunes with each album and this album continues that. BUY NOW!!!!!!!!!!!
Can I get a head bang?.......2007-06-26
This album has a HUGE arena rock sound. It is mostly hard music, but without the screaming. Instead, lead singer John Cooper brings great melodies and powerful choruses. Keyboardist Korey Cooper provides great backup vocals. The lyrical themes are not new or unique, ranging from love, relationships, truth, life's difficulties, etc, but the sound is gigantic and will rock you from here to kingdom come.
Sadly, not exactly Skillet's best outing..........2007-05-21
After the monotonous "Collide," I had high hopes for Skillet's newest album. I used to be a big fan back in the "Hey You, I Love Your Soul" days, and from the previews it sounded like Skillet was once again returning to their synth-laden rock sound. They weren't.
This album suffers from serious "God or my girlfriend?" syndrome, in which the lyrics are ambigous enough that christians can pick out the meaning, but to any non-informed secular listener it just sounds like he's singing about his girlfriend. On some tracks, the lyrics are just plain awful (see: Better Than Drugs). But enough with the lyrics.
Unfortunetly, Skillet doesn't deliver with the musical side of things either. Unlike the catchy melodies and nice riffs of previous albums, this CD is filled with boring verses and repetetive choruses. To be honest, it sounds a bit like a computer wrote it. It lacks personality or life. It's just notes. All of which is quite a shame, as I know that Skillet themselves are perfectly fine song-writers.
The album isn't entirely awful, but you can tell they were trying to reach a more mainstream audience, and in the process, cheapened the experience. If you plan on picking up a Skillet CD, I'd go with "Hey You, I Love Your Soul" or "Invincible" for some nice easy synth-rock, or "Alien Youth" if harder rock floats your boat. Either way, I'd stay away from this album.

Album Description
As soon as fans hear "COLLIDE", the Lava Records debut from SKILLET, they will know that singer and bassist John Cooper is true to his word. From the scorching hard rock songs like "Forsaken", "Savior", "My Obsession" and "Cycle Down", to the soaring ballad "A Little More", Skillet is ready to bring their awesome energy to a whole new audience. The four-piece rock band, led by Cooper, has toured relentlessly since they formed in the late 90s. Fueled by a love of hard rock and pop melodies, Skillet released several albums independently, and driven by their faith in the music, began to make an impact drawing huge crowds across America.

THE BEST CD EVER!!.......2007-01-09
I just started listening to Christain and Alternative Rock on SIRIUS raidio. I listined to Ribirthing, thought it was great, went to Wal-Mart, looked forever to find it, then I found this CD. It was THE MOST AWSOME CD OF ALL TIME! It is especially good for driving for 2 days in a row. It is hard, with a Christain message that ends up great if you don't believe. Did i say this CD ROX yet.
Energy and Fingernails are the best songs ever!
Most likely the best Skillet CD.
Also recommended: The Reckoning, Pillar
I'm listining to the CD right now.

I think that this cd is very touching. You can't find good hard christian rock very often so if your looking for good christian music this is what you need to get.You should also look at relient k it's not as hard but it's still good.
Great rock for anyone! .......2006-04-22
Skillet's "Collide" is one of the best albums I have ever bought. Their music is satisfying to everyone, and still has a Christian meaning. Their lyrics and melodies mix perfectly together, and the instrumentals are great! I would really request this band to anyone want good, hard rock! Thanks!
Ow, Baby, this CD is Awesome!.......2006-04-13
I am a hard rock lover and my thirst for head banging metal has finally been quenched. Aaaaaaah!
This CD is one of the best. Lyrically and musically.
FORSAKEN: great sound. Love the guitars. But I hate to say that I can't understand its meaning. 4/5
SAVIOUR: Terrific song. I love the screams and lyrics. (I am the eyes inside of you, stare back at you.) 5/5
COLLIDE: Awesome! Such a deep meaning! I can really relate to this song. Just a hair of unneeded screaming. But what the hey, screaming's cool. 5/5
A LITTLE MORE: A nice break from the hardcore. But this isn't one of those dull ballads. This is actually one of my top favorites!
OBSESSION: Don't get me started talking about this one. This is just one extroadinary song that talks about our obsession with Christ. Message is similar to JESUS FREAK. 10/5 (Yes, it goes over the top.)
MY FINGERNAILS: Cool song. Without Jesus we can't do anything.4/5
IMPERFECTION: This song gives me a strange case of the chills. Good chills, mind you. 5/5
UNDER MY SKIN: I don't really care for this song. Its my least favorite song on the CD. 3/5
ENERGY: This is my number one favorite. 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,/5
CYCLE DOWN: Really good! Catchy! 5/5
My point: Get the Cd. If your a rock craver, you will not be let down. I guantaree it!

And just like that, the "swing thing" disappeared. Of course, San Francisco's Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers were at it years before the revival took hold and were always a cut above the rest of the pack anyway. That's because Smith and her pianist and musical director Chris Siebert have such a deep wealth of musical knowledge to draw on, the courage and good taste to recruit world-class veteran players from across the jazz world, and a passion and respect for the style of music they play. Boasting a buoyant mix of boogie-woogie, jump blues, sophisticated swing, and even bebop, 2000's Everybody's Talkin' follows up their enormously successful indie debut, One Hour Mama, which sold nearly 40,000 copies in the 3 years after its release on their own Fat Note label. The crafty arrangements, courtesy of Siebert and big-time Ellington expert David Berger, never get in the way of momentum or mood. It all revolves around Smith's versatile voice, which can convey strength and vulnerability, innocence and smut, sweetness and wickedness--often all at once. --Marc Greilsamer

jazz to drive to.......2007-05-13
enjoyed her piano jazz sultry voice- every song on the album is worth listening to.
Second album is even better than the first!.......2007-04-02
Nice job with songs that hit the spot! New and exciting singer - great backup talent also.
Outstanding.......2005-12-03
Lavay Smith brings back the torchsongs of the 40s, backing herself with some of the best musicians from the Big Band era. A welcome respite from the overprocessed music being churned out. Truly spectacular.
A worthy addition to any music collection.......2005-11-24
This album conveys everything you want in in a jazz album with a swing emphasis. A great introduction to those not already immersed in jazz, yet satisfying to those with an understanding of the evolution of jazz and possessing a music collection to match. Lavay Smith has a voice that transcends genre, emotion, and the vast majority of modern singers of any category. The musicianship stands out on this album; she is backed by a top-notch band. Great music for parties, driving, and as a conversation backdrop.
Billie Holiday of modern days!.......2004-06-24
She's singin' like a Billie Holiday, and Red Hot Skillet Lickers is great band! But they don't just imitate! This is one helluva record!

Great item, great band and a great singer. A must for music lovers.
GREAT SKILLETS.......2005-10-07
I have to say I have one other of Miss Lavays CD - and its just as good as this one...
I was happy with the service- fast quick and efficient and the price was reasonable to!
Buy this CD if you like swing!.......2005-03-24
This is an excellent CD from the sweet sax on Blue Skies to Chris Siebert's boogie woogie piano and arrangements. I highly recommend this CD for parties, exercise, and of course listening. I bought this CD almost a year ago after a friend recommended it, and I still listen to it often.
I would like to hear them live. When are they coming to Wisconsin?
The greatest recording of swing vocals from the cd era!!!.......2005-02-19
There were many talented singers from the lp & 78rpm eras, such as Helen Humes, Billie Holiday(early Lady Day), and Ruth Brown. And there are a sleuth of new "jazz" singers of the cd era, however many of them sound "kitchy" and dated, however Lavay Smith is the Helen Humes of the new millenium!!! Smith is not a imitator, she is fresh and unique, but has a 1940's torchy, sassy quality, she sounds 110% WOMAN!!! Great singer, awesome band that can sound like Louis Jordan's band or Dizzy Gillespie's!!! Tjey play combo swing and jump blues, and Smith covers everyone from 1920's Ida Cox(One Hour Mama) to Little Ester! A great singer and the greatest vintage sounding singer of the cd era!!!(only Kim Nalley comes close to sounding in the smae class as Smith). Essential swing and vocal album.
Exellent jazz vocals with a top notch swing combo.......2004-01-03
Top jaz zplayers and hot arrangements, are what make Lavay's band standout. Chris Seiberts' boogie woogie piano playing is great and the horn section in tight and has room to solo. Lavay's vocals are original, and at the same time sound right out of the Dinah Washington, and Anita O'Day eras. The greatest cd to coem out of the neo swing era. Even touhh jazz critic Scott Yanow thinks this is one of the best swing cd's to come from the "swing revival" of the late 90's!!!

Decades before rock & roll, the Skillet Lickers blasted through raucous old-time romps that still sound as fresh and edgy as they must've sounded back in the 1920s, when they emerged as hillbilly music's leading artist. Fiddles endlessly blaze and soar over dance calls and raw, down-home hollers while Riley Puckett's guitar work keeps it all anchored. Puckett was probably the first star guitarist of old-time music and his unique, single-string style of rhythm guitar--harmonically fluid but rhythmically adventurous--proved essential to the development of bluegrass, not only for early rhythm guitarists, but later on for lead flat-pickers like Doc Watson, who enhanced it and moved it to the foreground. The songs, from "Soldier's Joy" to "Cackling Hen" to "Dixie" to "Leather Breeches," fiddlers' standards even then, remain so today thanks in large part to these historic recordings. --Marc Greilsamer
Customer Reviews:
An essential component of a good old-time collection........2005-12-06
Gid Tanner is a legendary old-time fiddler, so much so that old-time fans are frequently seen wearing t-shirts that say "Gid is My Co-Pilot". The old-time style here is, to discerning ears, quite different than the more common "Round Peak" style, made most famous by fiddler Tommy Jarrell, and quite obviously different than, say, Ozark fiddling. None of the styles are any better or worse, just different, and serious old-time fans will enjoy picking apart the nuances of styles.
More casual old-time fans will enjoy this record as well, though, for both the excellent repertoire and top-notch musicianship. If you think O Brother Where Art Thou is the real deal, I suggest picking this up and having a listen.
As Good As It Comes.......2005-08-31
This very fine cd - from County Records of Virginia - is superb!
County have once again produced a well balanced selection from the archives and have presented it to the public for their delectation. I would recommend this item to all lovers of traditional American Country Music. Don't let it pass you by.
HELL BROKE LOOSE IN GEORGIA & OTHER OLD-TIME FAVORITES.......2000-06-12
Dave Freeman's bluegrass and old-time country label, COUNTY, has been churning out "essential-listening" reissue albums for sometime now, all of which are classics that should be in every devotee's music library. A case in point is this 1996 compilation, THE SKILLET LICKERS: OLD TIME FIDDLE TUNES & SONGS FROM NORTH GEORGIA. Here we have on one CD 16 choice numbers, culled from the 88 sides recorded between 1926 -1931, by that great old-time string band, GID TANNER & HIS SKILLET LICKERS.
Our musical journey back in time starts off with the classic North Georgia-style fiddle tune, ROCKY PALLET, recorded in 1929, and ends with fiddle aces Clayton McMichen and Lowes Stokes, in true Skillet Licker fashion, wildly ripping through their 1930 rendition of that old-time warhorse, LEATHER BREECHES (the American version of LORD MACDONALD'S REEL). The Skillet Licker's unique sound was characterized by the interplay of the harmonizing fiddles (anywhere from 2 to 4 at a time, played by Clayton McMichen, Bert Layne, Lowe Stokes and/or Gid Tanner), Riley Puckett's inovative running bass lines on the guitar and Fate Norris' or Gid's rhythmic 5-string banjo accompaniment. Their highly syncopated, driving North Georgia style reflected the heavy influence of the African-American pre-blues fiddle and banjo tradition.
It was the Skillet Lickers, perhaps more than any other of the early old-time greats, that informed the evolution of the modern old-time string band sound in the 1970s and 80s. While seminal Revival bands like the Highwoods String Band and Bubba George drew their repertoires from many different sources and Southern regional traditions, it was the Skillet Lickers' fun-loving, raucous approach that truly inspired them and served as a model on which to base their own distinctive styles.
As always, this COUNTY album reflects that label's high standards. The original 78 rpm recordings have been remastered nicely and sound great, even to the virgin ears of listeners uninitiated in the mysteries of the raw, scratchy essence of these musical time capsules. The liner notes include highly informative essays by old-time musicologists Norm Cohen and Rich Nevins (though I have to disagree with Rich's dismissal of Fate Norris' banjo playing) and full discographical information on each cut.
If you want to turn on your friends outside the old-time fold to the inherent joys of your favorite music, this CD would be a good starting place. Likewise, I would recommend it to novice old-time musicians looking for some great classic tunes to add to their own repertoires.
Incredibly rollicking sounds from long ago and far away........1998-12-21
One of the finest old time fiddlin' bands, ever. A collection of old time ("hillbilly") 78's from 1920's and early 1930's. Artists include Lowe Stokes, Clayton MacMitchen, Gid Tanner, Riley Puckett, Bertie Layne and Fate Norris (usually inaudible, unfortunately), this CD is guaranteed to either get your feet moving uncontrollably, whether it be dancing or running as far away as you can get from it.
Numbers on this disc include "Hell Broke Loose in Georgia", "The Broken Down Gambler", and a very rollicking version of "Dixie" (hey, they WERE from Atlanta!)
All in all, a CD to please the old-time enthusiast, and annoy just about everyone else.
IMPORTANT NOTE: As with many "country" bands of the time (1920's), these guys had their share of songs that would be considered embarassing and even unacceptable today. NONE of those numbers are on this disc.

this was a dissapointment for me. there are popular worship music as well as some new stuff. this is very melow and unlike most of their stuff. as a whole the album is diappointing, if you have to have everything by them then by all means get this album otherwise skip it and move on.
ANOINTED WORSHIP.......2006-07-09
I first heard skillet on a compilation cd. The song made me weep. I read a review for this live cd calling it anointed, and I fully agree! This cd is dangerous to listen to while driving because the desire to lift your hands to the Lord and close your eyes is so strong! I love the live atmosphere, too. I've loaned it to someone new to Christian rock and he loves it, too. Yes, buy it and praise our Almighty God!
Incredible experience!.......2005-08-12
Very few times have I listened to a cd that impacted me as much as this one. This cd is annointed by the Holy Spirit. This cd explodes with energy and enthusiam for God, you realize when you hear the instruments and the singers that their hearts are in one accord, straining to show their love to their Creator. The full impact however, will not his you until you listen to the 7th track, "Angels Fall Down." The only time a song has ever come as close to the imapct this one had was Darrel Evans "I am in Love With You" from his Freedom album. If you want an incredible worship experience captured in a plastic disc, here it is.

Hardcore Skillet fan let down.......2007-05-17
Not their usual stuff. Don't know how else to describe it. Better examples of their work is in Collide and Comatose. Get those instead (both 5 stars)
Awesome. Just awesome........2007-02-15
My first intro to Skillet was a while back and I had only heard Collide. As is my custom when I find a band I dig, I went back to find what else they had. Man, am I glad I did.
Invincible is a great album. The messages are uplifting and the tunes, a nice blend of hard chords and techno beats (as they sound to my uneducated ear).
I'd definitely recommend this to a friend.

A little different.......2007-01-19
I was put off y the more electric sound of this album that was a quite a departure from the more grunge sound of their self titled album. But after listening to the album a couple times I began to enjoy it. Not as good as the first or last three albums but still a solid work that conveys a message about God thorugh great rock music.
Still One Of My Favorites.......2005-05-14
There's something to be said for an album you've owned for almost eight years that you still listen to regularly. This is one of those albums. This album is very honest and passionate. The way that Christian music should be. It's got a much different feel/style than their self-titled album (which I liked but lacked many unique qualities). This is more like techno-rock. If you like Skillet's newer album's Collide and Alien Youth you'll definitely like this one.
Amazing album.......2005-03-01
This cd is one of my favorites. It is Skillet at their best in my opinion. They mix electronics, rock, and softness. John Cooper's voice is whispering at times, yelling, and screaming (not death metal screaming mind you), combined with beautiful lyrics. There's no way you can listen to just one song, you need to listen to it all.
Before Invincible, there was Hey You........2004-04-25
Hey You I Love Your Soul came out in 1998. I love this album because you can see the evolution of the band combining Rock, Techno and a Ballad all within one song. With HYILYS they are almost there. The effect they create makes a non-techno fan go from Huh? to Wow! No sound bit can give you a hint of what the song is really about, because each song is a journey through sounds, feelings and verses that grab you. I like this album because you see where were going in the Album before their monster INVINCIBLE.
Invincible gets it absolutely right for me. The mix of a subtler techno with rock, its time changes combined with the entire structure of the album makes for one of the best albums I have ever heard in any genre. Invincible is the must have album but if you like a little more techno (some say a lot more) mixed with rock, you will enjoy Hey You..
Why don't I hear what everybody else hears?.......2003-06-01
This ablums is not as good as "Invincible." Most reviewers give it 5 stars but I wouldn't give it that high. I barely like it. ... All I have to say is, What do they hear that I don't? People give it a high score, therefore it can't be that bad. Because of this I change my mind and give it a 5. There is no such thing as bad music, just music that you don't like.

Product Description
Massive rock riffs, swirling drums, monstrous hooks and undeniably catchy choruses. Hints of progressive rock mixed in with modern alternative flourished and touches of classical influence as swelling strings intersect with sonic adrenaline rushes. It is indeed a fusion unlike any other, marking the latest chapter in the continuous evolution of Skillet, whose moniker couldn't be more fitting come it's explosive release Comatose.
