Charlie does it again...and then some!.......2004-04-17
I have been a fan of Charlie's music for 20 years, and this album blows them all away. Kind of a greatest hits album, kind of a tribute album. Charlie calls on many of his old friends, including Steve Taylor, Brent Borgouis, Sixpence none the Richer, the 77's and many more, to rework some his best songs. Stand outs include Steve Taylor and Margaret Becker rocking out with Charlie on the 1984 track "Lie Down In The Grass", and Sixence None the Richer joining Charlie on the Amy Grant hit "Every Heartbeat" (Which Charlie wrote). The two new songs are great too. A must for all Charlie fans, or a good place to start if you like great Christian music.
Fantastic! This album rocks and worships all in one!.......2004-04-10
Charlie Peacock and his boys blow the top with this awesome Christian album. I am a big fan of this often overlooked producer, songwriter, and recording artist. Charlie Rocks!

One of Charlie's Best!.......2003-04-01
With the release of "Secret of Time," the eyes and ears of the Christian music community were finally opened wide! This album contains a collection of songs that aspire to almost near-perfection. Songs to check out include the rock/pop/blues of "Big Man's Hat," "Experience," and "Almost Threw It All Away" and the mellow pop of "Way of Love" and "Dear Friend." Many of the songs are remakes of earlier compositions (from his "West Coast Diaries" albums). If you can find this album, buy it - it will be a good introduction to Charlie's brand of music!

CP Powerfully Captures His Sound & Poetry.......2004-09-28
Tired of Britney-flavored Christian pop? Charlie Peacock is the way to go, and "Everything That's on My Mind" is a good place to start.
Smartishly poetic, tightly played and produced, this will be one of CP's album's referred to as a great one. He brings in a candid, vulnerable heart, akin to what you hear from the late, great Rich Mullins, but with more complex, thoughtful lyrics. There's a Phil Keaggy/Beatlesque influence to some of the melodies. Fans of Daniel Amos, the 77s, and even the Lost Dogs will hear a sound they like. There is enough good old guitar rock to please John Mellencamp fans, and enough piano to make Michael W Smith fans happy.
I've had the pleasure of seeing Charlie Peacock play off this album when it first came out in 1995. It was in a gym of a small Christian college in Illinois, but he played like he was at the Kennedy Center. He brings that energy to this CD.
"William and Maggie" has always been a favorite for me, talking about their love for each other as they grow older and they recall some of the tough times they've had, "...He turned to his wife and he whispered/ 'Remember when I was young and you were Maggie?'" They encourage each other, noting they've had some pretty good times along they way.
The chorus still hits me, "Cause I been thinkin' about you and me and everybody in between/ It seems we've suffered one too many dreams/ Of things that weren't so bad, it's just/ They were never things that we could trust/ Are we still pretending they're enough?"
As he sings in "Monkeys at the Zoo," regarding how he wants his work as a musician to be for the Lord, and admitting he hasn't always been working with pure motives, "I have been a whoring after things cause I wanna get everything right/ That's a big fat lie/ No amount of green, gold or silver, the perfect body, another hot toddy/ Work for the Lord, fame & power, power and sex." It holds a power that sometimes gets lost in today's market-driven CCM music business.
Charlie Peacock has varied along the alternative art rock scale. "Everything That's on My Mind" is on that continuum, but closer to pop than his earlier work, but as poignant as his "West Coast Diaries."
I fully recommend "Everything That's on My Mind" by Charlie Peacock.

Outstanding words and music to make you think.......2004-08-30
Charlie Peacock is not everyone's idea of good listening. In fact, in the past, I have considered him a better producer then singer. However, this CD has changed my mind completely. Sure, his words are sometimes strange and are not easy to understand. However, after more then one listen, he starts to grow on you and you are led back time and again to reflect upon the depth of his inspirational lyrics.
His song 'My Father's Crown' is so beautifully written and sung. The album is dedicated to his father, who passed away in 1992 and this particular song is about his father and he considers himself 'His Father's Crown'. What a testimony to any parent!!
My personal favourite is "Dear Exception" which is centred on Christ and our relationship to Him. All of these songs are incredibly deep and thought provoking and I love to listen to his most unusual style of singing.
At the end of the album there is a live interview with him and it was interesting to hear why he wrote each song.
Charlie Peacock is renowned for producing albums of some of the younger Christian singers and has helped many of them to stardom.

Good Vintage Stuff.......1999-05-03
I have to agree that it is a shame that Love Light is no longer available, but this one definitely has some of his best!
The Enigma of Charlie Peacock.......1999-01-14
If you surfed into this site then you did so most likely on purpose. You have already heard of Charlie and everthing on his mind. The enigma or mystery is why just you and I know about him. You already know that Charlie Peacock is probably the most unique and gifted songwriter of this age, yet very few have even heard of him or his music. You know that his music is so cutting edge that his musical stylings predated and predicted the Minneapolis sound made popular by Prince in the 80s and the alternapop sound of so many bands that we hear in the 90s. His lyrics are thoughtful and intelligent. His songcraft is impeccable and is reminiscent of Sting drawing on many musical styles and influences. First and foremost his music centers on the human existence and "the thirst to be made whole". He is as close as this generation will ever get to C.S. Lewis. Charlie's music is proof that "Christian" music can be creative, different, thought provoking, evangelical, yet not filled with formula, cliches, and victory speeches. His music bears witness to authentic Christianity. This "best of" compilation is a good introduction for anyone who has ears to hear.
Charlie is a refreshing and inspiring artist........1999-01-03
Pure Charlie Peacock at his finest. Charlie's unique ability to inspire through his music is overwhelming. This CD is a must.
Talk about Talent!.......1998-11-24
Charlie Peacock is musically awesome, and produces many well known artists. In the Light was a #1 hit twice. First by Charlie then by DC Talk. This is a great album although I would have chose other songs to have put on a 'best of' collection. 'Love Life' the great discontinued album should be in production again! I'd buy it!

Great mixture of Christian Singers........2004-08-30
I had already bought Coram Deo 11 when I saw this CD advertised. I was intriqued by the unusual mixture of talents. I was curious to hear Michael Card and Charlie Peocock singing a duo as I could not imagine a stranger mixture then their two completely different styles of singing. I was wonderfully blessed by just how good they sang the opening song 'Lord of Love'.
I have almost all of Michael Card's albums as I consider him to be the best scriptural lyric writer of Christian songs. I have a couple of Charlie Peacock's albums and enjoy his very different talent of writing lyrics and his unusaul voice.
I own CD's of all the artists on this album and I must say that I was inspired by all the songs that are sung.
This album is an incredible CD to listen to and every song that is sung on it is unbelievably inspiring.
If you enjoy great Christian music and also an album of most of todays top artists then this is for you. Try it, you will not be disappointed

Great Jazz.......2006-03-09
Charlie Peacock is a true musician and put together (along with some other great jazz artist) a very good album.
Brilliant muzak.......2006-02-25
I love Charlie Peacock's music. I think the man is a brilliant musician and an incredible producer.
This instrumental-jazz album showcases some of the man's more offbeat brilliance. The songs are interesting, quirky, experimental. Unfortunately, for all their inventiveness, the songs also come across a little muzak-ish. They're great for background music while I'm doing other things, but I don't feel the urge to pop in this CD and just listen to it like I do with "Strangelanguage" or "Everything That's on My Mind."
It's great that he's experimenting and going in directions unrestricted by the Christian-pop mainstream -- that's one of the things that's always made him stand out from the uninspired throng. For musical experimentation, this album is a winner. For musical enjoyment, this one might be a tad too experimental for me.
AllAboutJazz.com Review by Mark F. Turner .......2005-11-19
"Like a sound chemist, Charlie Peacock mixes acoustic jazz with electronica to create some interesting music on Love Press Ex-Curio (Love's Pressure Exhibits Curiosity). The pop and gospel Grammy-winning producer/artist now proves his passion for jazz, and the results are impressive.
The recording features a list of jazz heavies including Ralph Alessi, Joey Baron, Jeff Coffin, Ravi Coltrane, James Genus, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Roger Smith, Kirk Whalum, Victor Wooten, and others. Add the techno wizardry of Tony Miracle on laptop synths and Jerry McPherson on guitar loops and treatments, and top it off with Peacock leading the project with clever writing and solid chops on piano and various keyboards-and it all comes together in a hip and satisfying package.
The music grabs your attention with a successful marriage of technology and musicianship. Yes it's been done before, but there's some serious substance here. The fun "Be Well Johnny Cash" incorporates everything from sound effects to big horns, spaced out guitars, and expressive solos held together by an upright bass and real drums.
Peacock is also a gifted pianist who brings his skills to bear throughout the project, but he showcases the solo pieces "Frank the Marxist Memorial Gong Blues" and "Dodo's Whim" with touches of blues and free expression. There are memorable performances by all of the musicians, proving the openness of these artists to experimentation. Other highlights include the cyclonic techno swing on "London Twist N Turn," the instrumental isolation on "Longing for Lewis," and the smooth flow of "All Or Nothing Grace." This juxtaposition of idioms works well, and music fans on both sides of the electro-acoustic equation should find something to enjoy." --Mark F. Turner, AllAboutJazz.com
Charlie Peacock Returns to His First Musical Love!!!.......2005-10-17
Charlie Peacock is a well-respected musician and producer within the Gospel and Christian music industry working with such well known artists such as DC Talk, Audio Adrenaline, Switchfoot and Amy Grant just to name a small few as well as being a solo artist in his own right.
With his latest release "Love Press Ex-Curio" (that's short for "Love's Pressure Exhibits Curiosity"), Peacock returns to his first musical love, Jazz. With some help from such acclaimed musicians like Kirk Whalum, Ralph Alessi, Victor Wooten, Jerry McPherson and Ravi Coltrane (son of John), Charlie Peacock has undoubtedly created an excellent album of instrumental music that fuses the mainstream acoustic Jazz of the '60s with '70s style fusion and the sonics of the 21st century.
The thing that stands out overall with this album is Peacock's and the musician's groove sensibility. Nearly every track on the album has a heavy funk groove to it which is not to far from the Jazz-rock experiments of Miles Davis ala "Bitches Brew" and band's like Weather Report. The improvisations on the album are unquestionably stellar especially from trumpeter Ralph Alessi who plays on the entire album as well as those from Kirk Whalum who appears on the opening track "When Diana Dances" and Ravi Coltrane who guests on the lengthy "Super Jet Service" and the closing track "All or Nothing Grace". Peacock himself lets loose with some excellent piano work throughout the album and even has two solo piano pieces here. "Dodo's Whim" is an an almost experimental style piece while "Frank The Marxist Memorial Gong Blues" begins agressively but decelerates into an almost atmospheric mood.
"Love Press Ex-Curio" is definitely a musician's album. There are some great musicians, great arrangements and great playing throughout the entire album. Charlie Peacock has definitely come up with one of the best Jazz albums of this year. It's one of those types of albums that comes in as a breath of fresh air in the midst of an endless stream of artists copying everyone else. The music is highly unique and original and above all, it's just plain great!!!
