5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Pure & Beautiful.......2005-10-31

If you buy no other classical music, buy this collection. CD 1 (Relax) is perfect for dinner, quiet entertaining or just soft music while you're working. From "Come Away With Me", to "Whiter Shade of Pale" to "Knights in White Satin"... each piece is it's own movement - and moved you will be... Perfect for a romantic evening. CD2 is more robust, but equally entertaining. "Layla", "Livin On A Prayer", Stairway to Heaven", "Run to You" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" - you owe it to yourself to hear these licks performed by the RPO.

5 out of 5 stars Symphonic Rock.......2005-07-25

It really isn't rock, but it is a very pleasant presentation of popular music, rendered in creative ways by a full symphony orchestra. It sounds like the orchestra had a great time making these CD's.

3 out of 5 stars pleasant easy listening.......2005-07-19

It's not extremely interesting music, but nice background, relaxing and pleasant with full orchestra. Not a bad buy at all!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent CD.......2005-03-20

I received this as a present and at first I wasn't sure if I would like it because I don't like some of the original songs, but there's something about hearing the orchestra play that makes me like all of them. Just try it out.

Product Description

Available for the first time, Mark Roebuck, teaming up with then-fellow-bartender Dave Matthews in 1990 to write and record a rich, folk-acoustic CD, woven with dark, sometimes melancholy themes. Mark Roebuck, formerly of the 80s power-pop band the Deal, began work on Tribe of Heaven in 1989. He invited then fellow bartender Dave Matthews to assist him in writing and recording a CD-length project. Tribe of Heaven would produce a rich, folk-acoustic sound, woven with dark, sometimes melancholy themes. The Tribe of Heaven project included nine songs, five written by Mark Roebuck alone, three written by Mark Roebuck and Dave Matthews together, and one a cover of U2's "In God's Country." Mark and Dave both sang and played on all songs. Greg Howard added keyboards on "Imagine We Were" and "Half the Time." Mike Rosenski played guitar on "Touch." The recording was done locally in Scottsville, Virginia on 8 track reel to reel at the home studio of Greg Howard during two sessions separated by about 6 months. Tribe of Heaven was informally shopped around in early 1990, but without success. Dave would go on to form Dave Matthews Band the next year and include a Tribe of Heaven song, "The Song that Jane Likes," on the band's first release, Remember Two Things. The Tribe of Heaven project lay dormant for more than a decade until a revival of interest in Mark's various musical projects, and interest from Dave's many fans, led to this release.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT!.......2007-02-22

This cd is great!!! I was listening to some "random music" on [...], and at a certain point they were playing "Imagine we were". I fell in love, I had to buy the whole cd immediately! But I was afraid that the other songs were not worth it...and I was WRONG!! I would definitely recommend to buy this cd!

5 out of 5 stars Interesting...........2005-08-02

I'm a fairly recent dave fan. I really enjoy the dave and tim shows and thought this would be similar. It is, although you can tell the songs were written and recorded at the end of the 80s. The Song that Jane likes is a very good version and the whole cd is worth checking out, especially for any dave fan.

      Product Description

Features flute, piano, synthesizer and percussion as flautist Michael Rose weaves spontaneous improvisations on Imagine, and other peaceful tunes. Completely instrumental, the melodies give rise to inspiration, meditation, and relaxation. This unusual piece of music is a complete Serenade based on John Lennon?s Imagine and other famous songs for peace. This instrumental collection is woven by spontaneous mprovisations on these themes. The form is actual classical with distinctive related movements, and repetitions and variations on the various themes in each movement. While the basic structure was composed by Michael Rose, the actual melodic and improvisational flute lines were spontaneously recorded in the studio. Become a co-creator of peace as you hear these melodies and your own listening adds energy to Give Peace a Chance. IMAGINE-Allegro non troppo(John Lennon, Lenono Music BMI) The melody begins gracefully and creates elaborate structures from the musical ideas that flow from the song. Then, as if it naturally belongs there, Pachebel?s Canon in D major enters with gentle syncopation in a way that has never been played before. Then seamlessly it merges back into Imagine, which evolves into an upbeat and optimistic ending. THIS LAND-Larghetto(Woody Guthrie, Ludlow Music BMI) The famous folk melody by Woody Guthrie intertwines with the Equivalent Russian folk tune, Meadowlands. Auto harp and guitar back up this slow movement that is grounding and thoughtful. CALYPSO-Trio/Scherzo(John Denver, Cherry Lane Music ASCAP) and (Gordon Bok, Timberland Music BMI) This John Denver song in praise of the oceanographic vessel Calypso starts simply and ends with overlays of three flute tracks. The melody takes breaks with haunting tunes by sea singer Gordon Bok, and the whole piece floats in a arenthesis of seagulls calling. GIVE PEACE A CHANCE-Andante(Lennon and McCartney Sony/ATV Tunes LLC/Beatles ASCAP) Tabla drums keep time as the flute changes from standard 4/4 time to 6/8 then 7/8 and even 9/8 as a crescendo builds into a prayerful chant. The flute does a virtual cadenza on the melody that lifts the soul higher and higher, where we touch the truth that peace is not just a time to hope for, but a state of being.
