Amazon.com essential recording

Grunge was the Stone Temple Pilots' stock-in-trade on their first two albums, but Tiny Music takes the group beyond such stylistic limitations. There's still plenty of grinding, metallic alt-rock here, thanks to "Pop's Love Suicide," "Big Bang Baby," and "Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart." "Lady Picture Show" is a bracing blast of Beatlesesque pop, however, while "And So I Know" finds Weiland crooning over, of all things, cocktail jazz. The album's dozen tracks find the troubled singer musing (rather creepily) about the price of fame on "Adhesive" ("Sell more records if I'm dead... Hope it's sooner / Hope it's near corporate records' fiscal year"), and not apologizing for his bad behavior ("Tumble in the Rough" asserts, "I'm looking for a new stimulation"; bet you are, Scott). But they're rock stars, not role models, and Tiny Music is STP's edgiest, most accomplished effort. --Daniel Durchholz

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A good, solid STP album.......2007-04-03

This album is from the softer side of STP, less of grunge and more of the mainstream alternative from the early 90's, reminding me of songs from Soundgarden but more of their softer songs, less like Spoon man and more like Black Hole Sun and Mind Riot.

4 out of 5 stars Not As Good as The Rest, But Good..........2007-02-28

Stone Temple Pilots is my 2nd favorite band of all time. Having just seen "Army of Anyone" (the new band featuring guitarst Dean DeLeo and bassist Robert DeLeo), my love for STP has been renewed. STP was a great band is so many ways. You have vocalist/lyricist Scott Weiland, one of the most talented vocalists of the 90s and one of the best lyricists ever (who else has written such quotable lyrics as "Blow up the b**ch with the firecracker smile" and "I wanna drink from your naked fountain."). Brothers Dean and Robert DeLeo, who also wrote almost all the music. These guys are so underrated, they've written such great stuff and are truly talented musicians who have a real love for their fans. While Eric Kretz was no Neil Peart, he fit the mold of STP perfectly (although AOA drummer Ray Luzier, whom I met, is destined to be considered one of the greats). "Tiny Music...Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop" is commonly considered STP's worst album and it is. It's not bad, but when compared to their other albums it's their weakest. Off it, however, came one of their best songs "Big Bang Baby." The album has it's merits, none of the songs deserve a grade less than 4 out of 5...But the lyrics are weaker than on other albums and many of the other albums delivered much more memorable songs. This album is a worthy effort though and I bought it for $4.99, so if you can find it cheap it's well worth getting. Here are the tracks and my opinions of each:

1. Press Play-5/5-A cool, very short, instrumental. It's not important to the album and it's not something you're going to hit the repeat button on, but you won't skip past it when listening to the album either.
2. Pop's Love Suicide-5/5-Scott Weiland sings this song in a whiny voice where you can barely hear any of the lyrics. The song is pretty damn catchy though. It's got a great beat, the guitar solo is great, and excerpts of the lyrics are really good too.
3. Tumble in the Rough-5/5-Also a great song. The chorus is pretty much the catchiest part, but the song kept me entertained. The lyrics aren't terrific, but the rhyming of them is great.
4. Big Bang Baby-5/5-This is the best song on the album and one of my favorite STP songs of all time. It's one of the catchiest songs I've ever heard and gets stuck in your head really easily. Even though they're hardly the best lyrics Weiland ever wrote, they work so good in this song. Some of the lines are some of the best like "We used to see in color, not it's only black & white yeah it's only black & white. Cuz the world is colorblind."
5. Lady Picture Show-4/5-This has never been a favorite of mine. It's good, but I just don't like it very much.
6. And So I Know-5/5-This song is very slow, but I think it's a beautiful song. It ranks right up there with "Wonderful."
7. Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart-5/5-This is one of the best songs on the album. It's so catchy and well written. The lyrics are goofy, but they work in the song because of the way Weiland sings them.
8. Art School Girl-5/5-This is a great song. It starts off with Weiland singing really slowly and in a kind of goofy voice, but the chorus is so great. It belongs on the "best of" CD.
9. Adhesive-5/5-This song is slower than the last two songs and a little longer. But it's really good.
10. Ride the Cliche-5/5-A great song title and a great song.
11. Daisy-5/5-A fantastic guitar instrumental by bassist Robert DeLeo.
12. Seven Caged Tigers-4/5-I don't have much of an opinion on this song. It's not bad, but it's pretty forgettable.

As I said, "Big Bang Baby" is one of their best songs and if you haven't heard it...Be prepared to have it stuck in your head for a good long while. Writing this, I've heard the album 3 times and I can tell you that I didn't like this CD as much as I do now when I first heard it. Many albums require multiple listening(s). This is a worthy STP album, but, again, it is their worst.
GRADE: B

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Statement From An Exceptional Band.......2007-02-27

In my opinion STP's third career offering is nothing short of a masterpiece. The music is surreal, each chord and note touching your very essence. On this album, despite battling his own personal demons, Scott Weiland, I believe, writes some of his most memorable and thought provoking lyrics, all the while showcasing the many different facets of his awesome voice. No doubt when it's all said and done he will go down as one of the best singers/frontmen that rock has ever known. Kretz and the Brothers DeLeo show once again that they are much more than just a one-dimensional alt. grunge band with songs derivative of Pearl Jam. The band grinds out their most melodic, free spirited tunes on this energetic opus that shouldn't be taken for granted by those who are only used to STP'S "Core" and "Purple" eras. There are some absolute killer little 'ditties' on this gem. "Big Bang Baby", "And So I Know", Trippin' On A Hole in A Paper Heart" are just a few of my favorites. Quite simply, the package as a whole sounds completely fresh and inspired and will no doubt leave the average STP fan happy. Listening to this album only makes me long that these guys were still making kick-a music together, and so, I am keeping my fingers crossed. Army of Anyone and Velvet Revolver rock, but there is just something very special about Scott, Robert, Dean, and Eric working together as unit. Absolutely beautiful.

5 out of 5 stars Hold Me Closer Let Me Be .......2006-06-20

Something always pulls me back to Tiny Music. Suddenly this band that so far has just rocked, this band has attitude. I mean, they still rock, but now it's with a swagger or a snarl or something like that, anyway. Suddenly the production gets worse for the better and the riffs get simpler but more alive in time.

And yeah, it all works for me. I guess this album inspired one of the meaner album reviews that I've seen on Pitchfork (check it out, it's worth reading if you like heroin jokes and suggestions that people should die) and it's greatly labeled and knocked as a "glam" album. I guess I don't really see it like that, since there aren't any real sing-alongs or songs to hold your lighter up to(as there are on the earlier two and later two albums).

Of all the STP, I like this the best. It's got the rock, but it's also got groove.

5 out of 5 stars Much more than a grunge album.......2006-05-11

As a boy growing up in the nineties, grunge was my first real exposure to rock music. My first favorite band was pearl jam and i loved all the major grunge acts and STP was no exception. Through highschool i started listening to classic rock and 60's music and opened up to the indie rock scene. I can say now that ive grown out of the grunge music all together. The likes of Alice in Chains Peal Jam and Soundgarden hold only a couple of tracks on my itunes library. Ive moved on, but one album from that era that I still listen to, and have even gained a greater appriciation for, is Tiny Music. This is the most underrated album of its era. By channeling the sounds of the 60's and seventies, STP was almost a decade afead of their time on this one. If this album had been released in 2002 by anyone else it would be considered a modern classic. But because critics immediately thought cheap non-seattle born grunge johnny-come-lately nock off act everytime they read the words Stone Temple Pilots on a CD cover the ablum is immidiatley panned before it's even heard. Which is too bad cause there's some great stuff on here.

"The innocence of my life releases the God I love everywhere." These are the words of Rumi, 13th-century poet and founder of the Whirling Dervishes of Sufism, as spoken by the mature and melodious voice of Rosa Parks. Her voice, American history, those words, intense longing: Power. In celebration of the human spirit, The Gift of Love is a recitation of the love poems of Rumi by Dr. Chopra and celebrity friends, including Madonna, Goldie Hawn, and Robert A.F. Thurman. Sensual Middle Eastern-influenced music backs the reading and provides breaks between sections such as "Love Drunk" and "The Light of Love." The Gift of Love is sincere and potent stuff, unafraid of the deep physical, spiritual, and mental hunger that Rumi's words not only taste, but roll about the tongue and swallow whole. --Paige La Grone

1 out of 5 stars Pseudo spiritualism.......2007-06-05

This is a junk product, a "murder of culture" as one review (too) nicely put it. A group of pseudo spiritual characters gathered to stuff even more money into their already fat bank accounts. Madonna? Demi Moore? Topped by Shallow-ak Chopra? Gimme a break...

P.S. what the heck was Martin Sheen thinking?

5 out of 5 stars WOW.......2007-03-27

amazin cd by the sexiest man alive: deepak!!!!!!!! a friend that i was trying to make more than a friend sent this to me-------i shivered when i heard it (no joke) you either "get" this cd or you dont. i guess i played it about 20 times-----its about universal love and you will never forget it if you "get" it..........

5 out of 5 stars Breathtakingly beautiful.......2006-11-08

Deepak reading the exquisitely beautiful love poetry of Rumi, over tasteful dance tracks, supported by goddesses such as Madonna and Demi Moore... What else do you need to know?...

5 out of 5 stars Embracing Rumi's Thought.......2006-04-28

The soundtrack of Aparna Sen's "Mr. and Mrs. Iyer" introduced me to the 10th century poet saint, Jalaluddin Rumi. I was so impressed with, "Kithe Meher Ali..." (lyrics in Hindi inspired by Rumi's work) that I immediately set out to buy his work. However, each time I tried to read the poetry, I was at loss of the lesson. As it sat on my book shelf for several years, I returned back to it recently to meet with the similar fate.

This time though, a wonderful email suggested that I should look for Dr. Chopra's "A Gift of Love" for guidance. Dr. Chopra and his friend enhance the message of Rumi through this compilation.

Packaging: It is an added bonus that the packaging of this product is quite appealing as well. There are two CDs included. CD 1: 35 poems recited by Chopra and his coterie of wonderful readers. CD 2: includes Chopra narrating the story of Rumi and Shams and his examination of the seven spiritual laws of love. (attraction, infatuation, communion, intimacy, surrender, passion, ecstacy).

To all those who wish to tread the path of Rumi's world, start here.

5 out of 5 stars A Gift Of Love!.......2003-12-21

This CD is an absolute joy to listen to! It thrills your senses. It makes your skin tingle. It opens your heart to love, brings you closer to God, the universe and all beings.

Usually I buy a CD, listen to it a few times and then it sits and collects dust. But this one is different. If I have a stressful day or whatever, I come home and listen to this and in only minutes I feel the stresses of the day leave me. I feel more grounded and as a friend said, it has the ability to put you in a deep meditative state.

I would rarely give any CD 5 stars, but this one rates it easily and if you are at are familiar with Rumi - you know his words are profoundly deep and touching to the human soul.

Deepak, You out did yourself this time -- A Fan!

I am sick of shadows! Blind me with you - Rumi

5 out of 5 stars Wear Your Love Like Donovan.......2007-06-12

This is vintage Donovan. Most of it has a medieval feel to it, and is perfect for sitting back and relaxing after a stressful day.The only "commercial" cut is "Wear Your Love Like Heaven." The rest is unconventional, and well...pure Donovan.

5 out of 5 stars Higher and Higher.......2007-06-05

When you are young and just starting out in life, you could care less about such things. But, as you get older, the "road" shortens . . . and you get a better view of where you have been, where you are today, and where you will be tomorrow. I am a "child of the sixties" . . . and there is no shortage of great music that helped define my generation. And, of course, It would be difficult to say good-bye to any of the old friends that helped provide me with the soundtrack of my life. But, this I do know, when I leave this world, the two albums that will be safely tucked under my arm will be "Sgt. Pepper" and this one. Enough said. It was and is that personal.

5 out of 5 stars Fresh from a garden to me.......2007-01-10

I have looked for this music for quite awhile. When I got it, it transported me back to the late sixties, early seventies. The music was as good as I remembered it to be....thanks again, it made my year!!!

5 out of 5 stars Life is so good.......2006-11-10

A very happy CD that depicts an era when there was some optimism in music. This is a double album. The first part is so 60's; you want to say Groovy and Neat-O again.

The second part is very accoustic and poetic. This part was one I listened to as a child and was glad to hear again.

5 out of 5 stars "I can see by your eyes you're a good man".......2005-12-18

There is a special place in my heart for this album and for all those who love it too. It's a kind of high-water mark in my life, evoking a time when the world seemed fresh and clean, and full of sweet magic.

Listening to these recordings once again, with more adult, "sophisticated" ears, I am surprised to discover, once again, the excellent artistry they demonstrate. Every note sung just so, as it simply had to be. A well-polished gem.

Do you want in on hip-hop's dirty little secret? Well, not even rap's greatest icons have been able to pull of a memorable, fast-forward-free double disc--2Pac's All Eyez on Me and Wu-Tang Clan's Wu-Tang Forever included. On this follow-up to part one, Jay teams up with Destiny's Child's Beyoncé on "03 Bonnie & Clyde," a so-so remake of 2Pac's "Me and My Girlfriend." The Dr. Dre-produced remix to "The Watcher," featuring Rakim, reveals that, in addition to expanding his audience, Jay is interested in appealing to his tried-and-tested demographic--East Coast hardrocks. He rounds out the first disc with "I Did It My Way," sampling Paul Anka's version of "My Way" and equating his Rap Pack (Kareem Burke, Dame Dash) to the Rat Pack of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Dean Martin. Don't laugh. The stronger second disc contains some pleasant surprises. The Lenny Kravitz-fuelled braggadocio of "Guns and Roses" titillates, while Jay's Jeru the Damaja-like "Bitches and Sisters" is sure to stir up accusations of misogyny. In the end, not even Jay can tear through 11 hot tracks, much less 25. --Dalton Higgins

3 out of 5 stars Blueprint 2 is Jay's Nastradamas.........................2007-04-04

The first Blueprint was layered in soulful samples and bangin beats. Jay went for a more worldly sound on BP2 and threw a lot of fans for a loop. Too many ambitious songs and not enough hits. Plainly put.

3 out of 5 stars A Gift On One CD & A Curse On The Other (Rating: 7 out of 10- -3.5 stars).......2007-03-07

Almost a year after "The Blueprint 1" Jay decided to throw a double disc of his material and make it the sequel called "Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse". Given to some, "The Blueprint 1" was a classic and made the best rap CD of 2001 and received accolades from all over. "Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse" could have been an excellent follow up to the predecessor, but didn't exactly, This CD had mass amounts of filler tracks and not enough material of what was expected from Jay-Z. As if all the songs that were scrapped from "The Blueprint 1" ended up on here.

Disc 1: The Gift

Majority of this CD, Jay holds his form. "The Watcher II" featuring Dr. Dre and Rakim is an excellent track to me. "Excuse Me Miss" was the second single of the album and was another great song for the maturing Jay. A few more songs that I thought were good were the bouncy "All Around The World" and the fast pace "Poppin Tags" with Twista, Big Boi, and Killer Mike. He shows the lyrical and bragging side of him on the last track "I Did It My Way". There are tracks that didn't hit like others, like "F All Nite" with Pharrell and the lead single "'03 Bonnie And Clyde" with Beyonce. If I had to pick between the two CD which was the better one, I would choose "The Gift" over "The Curse".

Disc 2 (The Curse):

The second CD "The Curse" has most of the skip material. There are a lot of songs I had very little care for, such as "Diamond Is Forever" and the awkward sounding "Guns & Roses" with Lenny Kravitz. Some songs I find Jay to be at his worst, as if he just threw lines together aimlessly, like on the first verse on "Guns & Roses". The first good track was "You Don't Know (Remix)" that hits just as good as the origonal. "Somehow, Someway" is good with Beanie Siegal and Scarface. Sort of reminds me of "This Can't Be Life" from the Dynasty album with the Kanye West beat. Then there is the title track a weak diss to Nas that people will only hear once. Next are a few club track like "***** Please" with Pharrell and Young Chris, as well as "2 Many" with Timbaland. Afterward we get the entire Roc-A-Fella cloab with "As One". The bonus tracks are solid. I say the best one was "What They Gonna Do 2" with is good as the first.

Overall this double disc has a lot of filler tracks, as well as some good ones. If you were expecting a sequel to "The Blueprint 1", you're in for a dissapointment. This album does make a few hits with it's formula but not as consistant, especially with the second disc. That is usually the case when it comes to double discs, some empty sounding tracks to fill it up, and that was what Jay had on this album. If you're a fan of The Source Magazine, you'd know that this was the lowest mic rating he received on all of his albums 3.5 mics.

The Gift: (8 out of 10- -4 stars)
The Curse: (6 out of 10- -3 stars)

My favorite Tracks: The Watcher 2, Excuse Me Miss, What They Gonna Do, All Around The World, Poppin Tags, I Did It My Way, You Don't Know (Remix), Somehow Someway, As One, What They Gonna Do 2

Honorable Mention: The Bounce, 2 Many

4 out of 5 stars A solid album by the Jigga Man.......2006-08-03

8.5 STARS OUT OF 10

I realized last week that there isn't a decent album to listen to in the world. I decided to look old school, so I shuffled around my disk collection before throwing in Blueprint 2. I gave it a few spins for the first time in a year or so, and I still say I really like this album.

A lot of people hate on this album and call it the worst in Jay-Z's impressive collection of stellar cd's. While I agree that it is not nearly his best work, this album is far from bad and is a few steps up from Volume 3 which I think is Jigga's worst album.

It is comprised of two cd's. Disk 1 is the Gift, while Disk 2 is the Curse. Personally, I think the Curse is the much superior and deeper disk. Don't sleep on the Gift though. While it has the more radio friendly songs, there are still 6 or 7 solid tracks NOT featuring Beyonce or Pharrell. And even those two songs were decent when the album first dropped a few years ago.

Are there a handful of subpar songs? YES.
Could the album have been trimmed down to 18 of the best? YES.

Still not bad though for a DOUBLE album that was supposedly thrown together in two months.

3 out of 5 stars Blueprint 2 - The Gift And THE CURSE!!!! .......2006-05-19

The title cover says it all "The Gift and The Curse", where not even Jay-Z can pullout a classic double album, though it does contain some of it's finest moments, such as the Dr. Dre produced ("The Watcher Pt. 2") where "Dre", "Rakim" and "Truth Hurts" show up for a help in hand. The remake of "2Pac's" classic noir ("Me And My Girlfriend") featuring Beyonce and also the open track "Dreams" where "Faith Evans" sings the chorus and they add an old recycled "Biggie" track to add on a verse. We know "Biggie" was your man, how many time do you have to remind us. With all those mentioned above, there are just too many fillers that made the cut for Blueprint 2 and truth be told, it would have been more prestigious and would have gained more acclaim, such as the previous year's "Blueprint", if the album was presented on a single CD rather than having a 2 disc set. "Pharrell of the Neptunes" shows up for "Excuse Me Miss" where we see a more matured "Jay-Z", but with cuts like "Poppin' Tags", "B*tches and Sisters", we can see he hasn't changed much, which is not necessarily a bad thing. On a postive note the album does improve with superb production work, supplied by "Kanye West", "Just Blaze", "Timbaland" and many more.

4 out of 5 stars One of the better modern Hip-Hop Artist.......2006-02-03

I was very suprised to see that some of the reviews of this album got 1 and 2 stars. Even though I will agree that this isn't his best work, The Blueprint 2 still manages to be a solid effort. Some say that Jay-Z has sold out and just isnt putting out quality material. Yet I tend to look at it from a different point of view. Today's Hip-Hop is so much different then it was in the 80's and 90's. There are sooo many different hip-hop artist, and I think way to many are being given record contracts, cause half of them dont have an once of talent. Just because you can lay down some rhymes, doesn't mean you deserve a record contract. Most of these artist dont even write their own material. Jay-Z can is an exception as he writes his own material, does his own sampling, and produces his album. I believe he is one of the better Hip-Hip artist of the modern era, and I really enjoyed The Blueprint 2. The songs on this range from all different types of genere, from some hardcore, to some laid back tracks, to some "poppy" material, and I really think its a solid effort. Jay-Z proves that not every song has to be about guns and pimping and wanting to be a ganster. (kinda like the no talent 50Cent) I really like the beats and sampling that Jay-Z uses on this release to, and the last three bonus track on this CD, have some unique style and some great beats. NO, its not as solid as previous releases, but its still a very solid effort. If we had more hip-hop artist like Jay-Z, and less like 50Cent and Juvinile, then the music world we be a better place..ENJOY

Though a small handful of its 13 songs predate Los Angeles, X's second album represents a giant leap forward for the band. Wild Gift stands as one of the 1980s' most fully realized rock & roll LPs. John Doe and Exene Cervenka bring altogether more personal and biting lyrics to the mic, making for riveting, curiosity-promoting performances. ("If I wrote a song like 'White Girl,'" Doe tells critic Kristine McKenna in this remaster's liner notes, "there was an unspoken pact that this may happen, but I love you more.") From the metallic riff of "It's Who You Know" to the surf-wise lines of "In This House That I Call Home," guitarist Billy Zoom is given freer rein, while drummer D.J. Bonebrake fuses the Ramones and Beefheart to enduring effect on "We're Desperate" (improved from an early single version by a slight lyric change). And "Back 2 the Base" and "Year 1" stand out as two of the most complex statements about punk's icon-smashing impulses ever. The 45-rpm take of "We're Desperate" is included here, along with six other bonus tracks. Shut up and smoke. --Rickey Wright

5 out of 5 stars Brought back memories of my teen angst.......2007-01-11

Listening to this CD again after ten years was complete and blissful nostalgia. I went back to 15 years old...the oddball kid in 9th grade who put a little X in eyeliner on her temple and shoulder. There are a lot of great tracks and from 15 to 35 I still absolutely love this band. True survivor's of the eventual overflow of punk bands from L.A...their music still endures in a way that no other band from that era could compare to. Exene Cervinka was a true poet of her generation and although she lacked in vocal qualities...she more than makes up for it with her passion and her lyrics. I consider her the angry & confused feminine mind in an almost completely male oriented genre. John Doe's vocals are unsurpassed and the band as a whole without sounding too polished were definately the definative punk band of the time with actual musical capabilities along with the frustration and angst about a myriad of topics including being young and married which I don't think was a particularly normal subject in the punk idealism but it fits well with this band and they were doing what was meant to be done...telling the truth, no matter how ugly or unattractive it sounded to the general public. I let my 11 year old listen to the age appropriate tracks on this CD and he even found it inspiring. Soul Kitchen was his favorite track and and he was utterly fascinated that it was a remake from a 1960's band called The Doors. The Doors, who? My son is a musician; he plays trumpet, drums and is a beginning to learn electric guitar inspired completely to take on this instrument by Kurt Cobain. He plays Jazz but I have been digging through my head to find many different forms of music for him to appreciate. His latest fascination is with early albums by The Police...which I also highly recommend.

5 out of 5 stars And to Think John Doe became an actor........2006-05-08

Emerging out of the early 80's punk scene X was much more talented then their punk brethren. Poet Exene Cervenka and John Doe's slightly off key harmonies somehow add the missing ingredient into the mixture of pop punk and pure rock and roll. Similarities to Beefheart and the Ramones cannot go unnoticed, but with lyrics like "I'll replace your drunk old man" (White Girl) it's suffice to say they have lyrically matured from the first album. "When Our Love Passed Out On The Couch" exemplifies what everyone has felt when a relationship goes sour. Get out your Docs and skank around the couch as the neighbors downstairs call the cops.

5 out of 5 stars Definitely no Second Album Slump.......2005-11-22

One of the biggest impressions I got from this album on first hearing is that it's much sadder than their debut. One quick comparison of the dangerhouse/rough mix of Adult Books on LA and the album release on Wild Gift will bear this out. However, John Doe's bouncy bass lines (In This House That I Call Home) nicely balance out some of the more down songs. and Exene and John's harmonies are too die for. is there any band better than X at mixing rockabilly, punk and country? I don't think so.

    5 out of 5 stars Biting.......2005-02-21

This a a solid and biting collection of some of the Best punk ever recorded! Arguably the best of the genre and rock that stands the test of time!

4 out of 5 stars That Wild Los Angeles Sound .......2004-12-10

If the chaotic howl of LOS ANGELES was up your alley then you're sure to get some more kicks from WILD GIFT. Again, the legendary L.A. punks plod along like wild stallions with their patented formula of dissonant harmony, hit and run rockabilly guitar-slinging, and a rockbed of unbridled rhythm. The approach remains much the same with the exception of a few new tricks such as the cha-cha-ish "Adult Books," which remains an X classic. Other standouts include the riotous "We're Desperate," the sexy chug of "Universal Corner," and the lightning strike that is "Beyond and Back." This re-packaged edition comes complete with some incendiary live performances and some exciting, though decidedly rough, demo takes. A notable bonus is the album booklet with an insightful essay, track analysis, and nifty photos. While WILD GIFT does not have quite the impact of the seminal LOS ANGELES, it still delivers a ferocious punch and proves to be equally unbridled and nearly as essential.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Pregnancy Relaxation CD.......2007-04-11

I bought this CD to practice relaxation in order to prepare for a natural childbirth. It was toward the end of my pregnancy but I listened to it almost daily and really enjoyed it. It is calm, not annoying, and I liked the verbal imagery the lady uses. I was indeed able to have a natural childbirth. It is definitely worth getting during pregnancy. I plan on using it in the future and even think I'll use it right now with my newborn when I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. Great CD.

      5 out of 5 stars A soon-to-be Mother's MUST!!.......2007-02-16

I was given this CD as a gift, and I call it my "God-sent gift" because it helped me overcome all of the "fears" I had about becoming a new Mommy. The meditations helped me focus on my breathing, and I remembered the music and visualizations as I was going through labor. When my baby was very young, she hated travelling in the car...I play Heartstrings and it calms her (and I) down immediately!!

5 out of 5 stars good for bedrest.......2007-01-08

I bought this cd for my wife because the doctor put her on bedrest and said she needed to reduce stress. She says it was a great support for a difficult pregnancy.

      5 out of 5 stars Very relaxing.......2006-06-03

This program has saved my sanity! I've been using these meditations for about 4 weeks and already I can feel a positive effect in my mood and stress level. I didn't know what to expect when I bought it, but after a few days of doing one meditation plus a couple of affirmations every morning and night, I was hooked. The music is pretty and melodic, and the voice is friendly and soothing. When I use this CD I feel like I'm being proactive in the healthy development of my baby. I highly recommend buying this CD and making the committment to yourself to take 5 or 10 minutes out of every day to bond with your baby. It's made my pregnancy experience much happier and less stressful!

      5 out of 5 stars Love it!.......2006-05-13

Using this CD throughout my pregnancy really helped me relax and made it easier to deal with all the stress in my everyday life. The underlying music is really nice - it's not too "new-agey" like a lot of those other guided meditation CDs on the market. Also, the guided visualizations are short enough that you can do one or two a day without having to take too much time out of a busy schedule. I love this CD and recommend it to all my friends who are pregnant or are trying to get pregnant.

5 out of 5 stars Puts them to sleep without driving you crazy.......2007-05-09

My two children each listened to this tape at bedtime for several years running, from the time my daughter was age 1 or 2 until her kid brother got to be about 6 or 7 -- all told, nearly ten years. I never would have believed that I could stand hearing the same bunch of kid songs night after night for a decade. But these are not sappy, cloying ditties. They are gentle, soothing tunes that are very kid-friendly yet do not grate on an adult's ears. The CD has nine songs, followed by instrumental versions, which are even more relaxing than the vocal versions. For the kids, starting the music playing was a signal that it was time to sleep, and most times they'd be out by the third song. On restless nights it seemed to help keep them calm until they eventually fell asleep. Turning it on again after a nightmare often helped dispell the fright. Each kid continued to use this music as part of her/his bedtime routine long after the toddler stage, because it was familiar and relaxing. It's a lot of peace of mind at a small price.

5 out of 5 stars Make some memories with your baby or young child!.......2006-10-10

I love this album! I was given this album on cassette tape when my first daughter was born. We wore it out. I sang her " I L-O-V-E-Y-O-U" in the hospital. The whole CD is so sentimental to me. The melodies are beautiful and the songs are easy to remember so you can sing them to your child even when you don't have the CD handy. I was so happy to hear that I could purchase it on CD! This CD is so beautiful, I played it for my son when he was young. I sang along with the songs to put my son to sleep. We love this song collection. Now, my grandson has his own to enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Listened to for over 10,000 miles! .......2006-04-27

We've had the cassette in the van(s)for over 11-years and have traveled the midwest & western states many times listening to this soothing and very enjoyable music. If the kids were getting cranky, car sick, or just needed to settle down, A Child's Gift of Lullabyes would always calm them. It was fun to hear them softly sing along. (Including the instrumentals was brilliant!) I'm getting the CD now so we can retire the trusty cassette. I'm glad that after 20-years it is still easily available. Every new parent should own this!

      5 out of 5 stars 16 years.......2006-02-19

I received this as a tape in 1989 when I had my first child. 16 years later she still wants to hear me sing these songs to her, and this tradition has been passed down to her little sister who loves these songs just as much. Every night for the last 16 years. We are getting the CD as the tape wore out long ago!
