DTTB Just Keeps on Keepin' on with Killer Grooves.......2000-12-09

I have practically worn out my copies of "From Manhattan to Staten" and "The Urban Grooves," so as soon I heard that "Spread the Word" was being released I knew I had to have it right away. DTTB has released another masterpiece of jazz funk that will knock you right out of your shoes. The fellas have taken a slightly different turn in this effort, with all the tracks having a '70s feel to them (similar to those great musical scores from Blaxploitation movies like "Shaft," "Super Fly," "The Mack," and "Trouble Man"), but from the first note of the CD you will hypnotized and transported to a zone where you find yourself tapping your feet, swaying your body from side to side, and bobbing your head to the beat.

As usual for DTTB, this is a strong CD from beginning to end with not a filler to be found. After listening to "Spread the Word" for the 6th time (in 2 days) I'm having a hard time deciding what my favorite tracks are, but I especially like the grooves of "Keep on Keepin' on," "Sound as a Pound," "Righteous Reeds," "Downtown Shuffle," "The Lowdown (acid jazz legend Gota plays drums on this track)," and "Mighty, Mighty Fine."

I urge you to run--don't walk--and snap up this CD. It's excellent background music for a party, your stairmaster routine, driving around town, when you're toiling away at the office, anytime your spirit and mood needs lifting. "Spread the Word" provides a 61 minute cure for what ails you.

Don't buy a new comforter this winter............2000-11-20

This CD COOKS....DTTB haven't lost their touch in fact it has been refined. Their CD's are a history of of 70's grooves including the Breckers/Players Assn./Roy Ayers/ Blackbyrds/ALL black exploitation film soundtracks.... Keep on Keepin' On opens the CD and PLEASE listen to this CD several times-I guarantee you will hear another track LATER that will replace your favorite track. I'm not sure when this is going to be available in the US-but why wait?!!

This is the closest thing to a Persuasions gospel album........1999-06-05

This is the closest thing to a Persuasions gospel album you can find. It's really more of a religious album than a gospel one, but you don't have to be religious to like it. I mean, it opens with Bob Dylan's "Three Angels," then goes into Bill Withers' "Lean on Me." For years and years, this album was out of print,and I suggest grabbing it while you can. Especially for "The Ten Commandments of Love" and "The Lord's Prayer." This is one of the greatest Persuasions albums, with the original line-up, and it has been sadly overlooked.

Keep that groove comin'..........2004-11-29

This being my fourth DTTB album (didn't buy them in order..), I am impressed. The band is far away from the sleepy smooth jazz music out there, but at the same time they blend almost every genre of music into their songs.

There's less solos in this album, yet it is still highly danceable music. some of my favorite songs are "Black Choice" and "Righteous Reeds".

Excelent CD !.......2002-08-27

I had been searching for this type of Jazz for a LONG time... I heard it playing on the record store. I was immediately captivated. I bought this one first and then the other three from Down to the Bone...and definately this is THE BEST album of the four.

It is full of rythm, energy and incredible music.

You will certainly be thrilled with it.

I think the other albums by DTTB are better than this. Even though this album has an all star lineup yet somehow it fails to deliver that very much expected boost. But its not a bad effort at all. Get it if you wish but its not that necessary for your collection. DTTB's Urban Groove in my opinion is a much better effort than this. If you want somethin' funkier for your watts, then check out AKIMBO (if you can find it). Peace!

Not as Acid as the other albums.......2001-08-13

It is noticeable when you play this new cd by down to the bone, that these guys are making a big effort to bring you good quality music, but on spread the word, down to the bone sounds repetitive and boring in all the songs. This new cd is not as good as urban grooves and will never be.

Spread the Word.......2001-04-05

This project from Down to the Bone is hot. If you like Soul, Funk and Jazz than this CD is a must have. My favorite cut is Downtown Shuffle.

The LP is a rocker. If you like the Stones and the Fleshtones, and maybe a 6-pack, you'll listen to "I'm gonna knock you out" with zest. Thanks go to Harry Ragg at WORT in Madison WI for introducing this tune to us listeners back in the mid 80s.

This is a slab of vinyl that I am DAMN glad to see dressed up for digital! Peter Zaremba enlisted delegates Wendy Wild, Barrence Whitfield and others to throw everything they had into this collection of 60's garage faves and note-perfect originals. I defy you not to be drenched in sweat after a single listen -- the horns, guitars, and sing along vocals have an infectious energy that is IMPOSSIBLE to fight.
