Absolutely beautiful album. As a child growing up in a Missionary Baptist Church of South Texas, many childhood memories came back to mind as I listened to this recording. I chose to give it four stars instead of five for one reason: it wasn't long enough. If you buy it for nothing else, buy it for it's historical significance: because the sad truth is recordings like this won't be around forever.

If you are looking for Traditional Devotional Hymn Singing or Lining of Hymns that are predominantly found in Afro-American churches, this is the CD to purchase. It is a recording of a heritage that should be cherised. Listening to Dr. C. J. Johnson distinctive voice and his rythmatic techniques makes the listener realize that his beliefs transcended in the very essence of each song. You will truly enjoy this CD.
