As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent" I have always enjoyed the way the Doors and Airplane could make any moment a great one and any night legendary.

The Doors show in Detroit may be their best performance ever. It is for the real fan because the set list gives you a myriad of non studio tracks. The band is on, the crowd is in, and Jim has shut out the outside world.

To hear the bits of Carol, I'm a King Bee, and Rock Me Baby will have you a believer in minutes. Another cool track is Crossroads (Not the Robert Johnson song that Cream made famous).

A perfect way to close is with "The End" but unlike those in Cobo Hall on a warm night in May, you can relive the memories time and time again.

If you have decided to only purchase 1 Doors live release Detroit 1970 is a blowtorch. In your face rock and roll, from polished to raw it needed to be 2 CD's.

Better to be part of a ship of fools than the excuse for music that is being presented today.

Not the best release for casual fans, but if you need more material to digest from the Doors then you will want this. About 3/4ths of this is outstanding, they play their standards excellently w/a lot of energy; Krieger in particular, shreds on the 1st 10 tracks. The covers are interesting and range from great to kind of meandering. The sound quality is very good and the packaging and liner notes are well put together.

Cons:

Too expensive.

I was a tad disappointed w/Been Down So Long - sounds like the musical arrangement hadn't been quite worked out yet and there's no great slide guitar like on LA Woman.

There are a few missteps on some of the improvisation, e.g. awkward or late chord changes.

In closing, I love this and I'm glad The Doors are releasing stuff like this on their Bright Midnight Archives label. I do appreciate hearing the whole performance in its entirety. So why only 3 stars? I'd give it 3.5 if I could and I'm just trying to be objective with this review.

Amazingly, only the first release of the complete show.......2007-03-02

Here is 'new' Doors product that's actually worth buying. To correct an earlier reviewer, this has not been released 1,000 times. The 1970 Detroit show was one of the many concerts recorded for the Absolutely Live album, so there are portions of this performance on that release, but it's light years from a re-release in the traditional Doors sense. However, the earlier official live albums were all cut-and-pasted to create the illusion of a single show. In fact, some songs are taken from two concerts, seamlessly edited together.

Since 2000 or so, The Doors started releasing material on Bright Midnight Records, a small sub-label of Rhino. It's an outlet for the (many) unreleased live shows recorded for Absolutely Live, among other goodies (rehearsals, interviews, etc). Of course, for years they claimed these shows didn't exist, though die-hards knew better. And since then, they've begun to trickle out this excellent material. (Both Aquarius shows plus the 1970 Philadelphia show have appeared, among others).

This is basically Absolutely Live-type quality; it's the complete show from Cobo Hall, Detroit during the band's 1970 'comeback' tour, after a rocky 1969 saw them cancel many shows following the 'Miami incident'. Suffice to say, if you love the band and have been yearning for more professional, soundboard-quality live shows--complete shows--then this is a great place to start. Great energy from the band, the tour saw them return to the music without so much antics, and it shows. Check the track listing on these for your favorites, or if you're obsessive, just get them all.

Of course, The Doors continue to release the same material (how many verisons of the original albums can they possibly release?) And while there's a link on their website to Bright Midnight Records, it's not too prominent these days since they're busy promoting the 15th release of the same albums, plus the inevitable Very-Bestest-Greatestest-Hits album.

Highly recommended for Doors fans, new, old, casual, or die-hard, this is still in print and well worth it. Even if you have In Concert, Absolutely Live, or whatever other compilation, this is a complete show (important for purists) and sounds great (important for everyone).

jeese i love the doors and have all their stuff, but this is getting stupid...

so 5 stars for the music, and 1 star for it being released for the 100th time.

It's an ok performance...........2006-10-18

The performance is OK....Frampton should have stuck to NEWER material...as he did with the FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE II back in 1995....The current versions of "Do you feel like we do" are weak and he should have done alot less on the talk box...it was cheesy...

As I pointed out in the review I did for COMES ALIVE II...Frampton himself always stated that his material was best suited for the stage....He should have used this media to introduce all new songs that were omitted on the last 3 live album sets from 1975..1976 and 1995.

Should he decide to do a COMES ALIVE III...that might be an idea.

Not as good as DVD.......2006-07-04

The DVD is great! The CD, however, falls short. It has an abbreviated song list, as usual. While I'm a able to do without Penny For Your Thoughts and I'll Give You Money, how can they possibly leave out Baby (Somethin's Happening)?!! This opening song sets the tone for the entire concert! I'm very disappointed that I didn't review the track list prior to purchase. Get the DVD. You'll enjoy the concert much more!

Live in Detroit.......2005-04-12

Frampton can still kick it out, is the short version. And he's developed a mature irony to go along with his chops. The version of "Do You Feel Like We Do" rocks as titanically as the _Alive_ version did. But this one includes a rollicking, funky piano breakdown, as well as a more boisterous bass line. The crowd roars in anticipation of the by now familiar climaxes, but they still sound fresh, nonetheless. And Frampton is on to himself as rock dinosaur, never taking himself too seriously. At one point, during the talkbox section, he even breaks into a little Austin Powers routine. "Yeah, baybee!" A treat!

Peter Frampton Still Had It In The Late 90s.......2004-11-18

Many people claim that Peter Frampton lost it after FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE, but they're wrong. Frampton recorded a number of excellent songs over the next twenty years, and in 1999, he recorded this tremendous live album. Unlike FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE, which ended with "Do You Feel Like We Do", this one has a few songs after that one, ending with a scorching rendition of Humble Pie's cover of the Ray Charles standard "I Don't Need No Doctor." This album's musical momentum paved the way for the general high quality of 2003's NOW.

Well I'm feeling pretty good after finally having the sense to just go out and buy this superb album.

This really is an exceptional album, and a showcase for Peter's guitar mastery. His playing has matured to a frightening degree, and the sheer class almost overwhelms you. Likewise his vocals are as strong as ever, yet his phrasing is more subtle, adding to the impact of this superb collection of songs.

Lines On My Face is still one of my favorite Frampton songs, and this version is simply stunning. The song selection is awesome, ranging from the Humble Pie classic I Don't Need No Doctor to You Had To Be There, which also appears in the superb Almost Famous movie, in which Peter plays a hilarious cameo as Reg, the Humble Pie manager.

The guy just keeps on getting better, folks. Every track is a gem, and there is enough of a variation in styles to make this a very satisfying album all the way through. The classics are in here, with some great newer songs too.

A great album from one of the classiest guitarists in the business.

Moving, artful --- no words to describe. Worth much more than $15. My personal favorite tracks: Holy Thou Art God, and Feast of the Lord. If you love gospel, you gotta have this CD, in my opinion. If you're curious about gospel, I think this CD might help you understand what the buzz is all about.

I am still trying very hard to get my hands on it but I have heard one song ...."Healing" although i have not heard it all I would still rate it at 5stars. Richard'Smallwood's music always inspires me...he is one of my favorite artists.All I can say about him is that he is anointed and every where I go I have to have at least one of his music with me.I just love the man he minister's to my life in a big way....probably one greatest dream I have is to attend one of his live shows...I'll keep dreaming and believing that it will come true.

Gospel diva Vickie Winans puts on the glory for her Lord and her hometown on Live in Detroit II, as she did with its multiple-award-winning predecessor. While this concert, recorded in late 1998, isn't quite as fiery as the first, Winans does a fine turn here with neotraditional arrangements of public domain hymns "Already Been to the Water" and "Old Gospel Medley," forming the core from which she witnesses. Best I've ever heard, especially the song Oh What Love. I had the cassette, it was destroyed in the car from the heat and can't get another Live in Detriot, (cassette tape). I would love to know how I could order this especially if you have a the longer version of Oh What Love.

When you listen to the dynamic sounds that the Lord has blessed Vickie with, you can't help but move. This CD has truly blessed me. I can just sit and listen to it, over and over again. I would like to say thank you also for my little neice who just turned 3 this year. Alexis, we call her(juicy fruit) She Loves "KING JESUS ". shocked me real good when she and some of my family came down to visit for Christmas i put the cd in and she just started shouting all over the place, me not knowing that she already knew about the song really suprised me she was singing the words and just bouncing all over the place it was a sight to see and she didn't stop until the song ended. She got us all excited and we all started shouting and singing around the house with her. Thanks for making our christmas fun! I love the entire cd i like to hear O Holy Lamb while i'm in my prayer and worship at home.It helps me to get through my time with the Lord. I am interested in purchasing Vicki Winans live in Detroit, but I was told that it was Vicki Winans live in Detroit II.
The main song I'm seeking is What Love!
So is it just Vicki Winans live in Detroit, or her live in Detroit II?
Unfortunately, I can't really rate the cd because I really don't know what's on it. Although, I love all of her songs I'll give it a 5star

I really like this album a lot and even more so than Live II. All the songs are great. However, I have one problem--honor needs to be given where it is due. For "More Than Enough", the song was originally done by Kim Stratton out of Chicago but I heard no one giving her credit for putting out this song previously. If others get that respect, why can't she? Now, I know all the glory belongs to God, but saints, let's learn to give credit where credit is due. God bless.

I have had the opportunity to hear this woman sing twice in my hometown here, just recently at the Bayfest, and she can move you live as well as on tape. I loved this one better than II the sequel, but no matter, she's still all good.

The CD was well put together and I really enjoy it. I could not wait until she released her sequil to Live in Detroit, which was a continuation of Live in Detroit I and possibly surpassed it. Keep up the good work Vickie.

Solid live album.......2007-05-05

This review seems as good a spot as any to point out the obvious vocal genius of Scott Morgan. FINALLY, through this album, the SRB box set, Powertrane, and his collaborations with Nicke from the Hellacopters Scott is starting to get the high visibility and respect he deserves as a TOTALLY GREAT rock and soul singer. This live album is a momento from a European tour shared with Radio Birdman guitarist Deniz Tek (backed by an Italian rhythm section and guitarist who also do a great job) and the set is a mixture of Birdman, Powertrane, Sonic's Rendezvous Band, and Tek's solo material. Wish they'd done a better job on the artwork, but it's the music that counts and there are no complaints there.

Get It While You Can YOU NEED IT!.......2004-07-15

More white-hot rock and roll from Scott Morgan and crew. Scott has been especially active in the last few years, having gotten together with Deniz Tek from Radio Birdman for a couple of projects. He's also teamed with The Hellacopters and has formed three bands: Hydromatics, Powertrane and The Solution. The Hydromatics perform High Energy originals and covers of GREAT Sonic's Rendezvous band tunes (many you can hear on this one-off conglomeration "Three Assasins". Scott is the perfect man to cover the SRB material, as he was up front sharing the spotlight with Fred "Sonic" Smith in the SRB!

This will eb a rare CD and it many not be the BEST of Scotts work in the last few years, it still outshines 99% of all CD's released in the last decade.

GOod Stuff. Try to find the Hydromatics CD's and you'll have the best Scott Morgan has to offer these days.

Everything You Need Is Right Here With This CD!!!.......2006-09-26

Wow...I heard this CD while listening to Pandora box in my office about a week ago and it really touch me in ways that I really needed it to!! The last few weeks I have been going through what seems like the hardest times in my life while and at the same time questioning my faith in god. After hearing Everything you need is right here my spirit was quickly uplifted so high that I started to praise God in my heart all day long.I've never really been one to listen to gospel music with the exception of a few artist here and there. I don't really know much about Twinkie but the words to that song made me run to the record shop and purchase her CD. It looks like I am going to have to purchase all of her CD if they sound anything like this one. It is so refreshing to here from a true woman of god that really touches a man in bad situations like mine heart. I thank god for giving her the words to touch my heart and soul in such a time that I really need it.

Man I can't believe I slept on this I just downloaded this from iTunes and I can't stop listening to it Twinkie Clark is the heart and soul of the clark sisters for real. Her ministry is just moving "He Lifted Me" is my favorite song but all of the songs touch me they are just what I need in my life . Oh and Twinkie on the Organ man what can i say she is truly the queen of the b5 hammond for real this is a good cd everyone needs this cd in thier collection

T. Clark you are definitley a musician from heaven. Every song you have wrote have ministered to me in some way. God has sent you here to hear the cry of his people so that you can write a sony that will save them from whatever they may be going through and you are doing just that with your music.
