This is an occasion to celebrate the voices and egos of three huge superstars, and to have fun listening as Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, and Jose Carreras interact, bouncing lines off each other and playing to the overwhelmingly enthusiastic audience. Much of the fun and flavor of the concert is dependent on seeing the action, though, and without the visuals you notice flaws in the singing much more. Domingo comes off as the more solid performer, and his voice is in far better shape than the other two. But if you crave big, high, and loud--and you don't take your opera too seriously--you'll love this disc. --David Vernier

Un gran concierto.......2005-07-19

Yo tenia el Cd de este concierto, pero sin duda el DVD presenta la realidad, lo sublime de este evento, porque ademas de ver las interpretaciones, trae varios puntos y canciones extras. Carreras creo que esta bien, saca la tarea. Placido Domingo en Amor vida de mi vida, logra llevar el concierto a su punto mas alto en ese momento, punto superado unicamente por Pavarotti en Nessum Dorma. Pavarotti como siempre sublime como dije en Nessum Dorma, Ave maria y en los popurris. La calidad del DVD es genial, con full screen y sonido digital. Otro punto buenisimo es la aparicion de Frank Sinatra en la cancion My way y de otras luminarias del cine y la política. Espero que este comentario sirva de ayuda para aquellos que quieran este DVD.

The Three Tenors has/have become a cottage industry, churning out one CD after another for every imaginable event and in every combination. This does not mean that the results are necessarily inferior but it does imply a commercial, layman's approach. And maybe this is better - spreading the joys of fine music to the masses. After all, where besides figure skating and cartoons do most people have a chance to even hear opera?

This event, like the first one in Rome, has a magnificent setting but, like Rome, the show was marketed mainly to the American audience. They still include the dreadful "Maria" with the hilarious pronunciation and even added "With a Song In My Heart" (or, as Carreras is wont to sing, "Weeth a Soeeng een My Haht"). Though some may deride the choice of encores, they were almost perfect. The Three Tenors, despite their prior celebrity, are creations of our culture of entertainment in ways that Caruso could only dream about.

Synopsis: Carreras stands out, Domingo substitutes volume for quality and Pavarotti soars when he doesn't have to.

I am not a regular Opera fan, hoever these THREE are the Best. their songs they sing together are SUPER!!! And the range of NOTES REACHED ARE REMARKABLE. tHE MIXTURE of songs is a treat for all, even if you are not an OPERA FAN!!!! Great show!!!!!!

Hmmmm...........2002-04-21

Not what I thought it was going to be. I like only about 4 of the 20+ tracks on this CD. I shoudl have just bought the DVD instead and actually watched them perform. Much, much more entertaining.

Last Encore of songs missing off C.D........2002-02-06

The Three Tenors are my absolute favourite singers. The 1994 Concert was undoubtedly their best in my view. I taped this live concert from the television, and have played and played and played it!! I also taped it on a cassette, however, when I bought the C.D. I was really disappointed that they did not include the last set of encore songs, which included O Sole a Mio (don't know if I've spelt that correctly), where Placido and Jose try and outdo Luciano!! It received such a fantastic reception from the crowd, (one of the many standing ovations), and really showed how much the Three Tenors seemed to enjoy performing the concert. How come this was not included? I don't know if it was on the Video because I play my own.

Terrific piano playing- stays true to original music.......2007-02-11

I'm a huge MCR fan and I adore piano music so getting this was a no-brainer for me. The music is amazingly true to the original melodies- I especially liked Teenagers on piano, more than I thought I would. Not all songs translate well to the piano but for the most part, this makes a neat addition to The Black Parade.

Nice CD but BIG mistake in the liner notes.......2007-01-23

The music on the CD is great but I was more than a little annoyed at the inside notes of the CD.

'All songs written by Frank Iero, Matt Pelissier, Raymond Toro, Gerard Authur Way, Michael Way.'

This album contains TWO tracks off of the band's 2004 release of Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge (and zero tracks off their earlier album) with Pelissier on the drums.

The remaining songs are from the band's latest release with drummer Bob Bryar.

Bryar is listed with the band's ascap information and did write on the newer songs. He deserves FAR MORE CREDIT for 'all songs written by' on this album than Pelissier does, by far.

I found it very disappointing that the correct information was not used. It's not difficult to find the proper information before pushing your CD through final production and releaseing it to the public.

WOW.......2005-11-18

I know that WOW is kind of a small word but this CD ROCKS! I have loved queen for years. I originally bought this CD for my 10 year old son who took up the violin this year and who loves queen as much as I do but it quickly became mine. I've heard some pretty bad imitations, remakes, and ripoffs. I can honestly say that this CD is none of the above.You get 10 of Queens best. 1) Killer Queen, 2) Bohemian Rhapsody, 3) We Are The Champions, 4) We WIll Rock You, which happens to be my favorite on this disk, 5)Fat Bottomed Girls, 6)Crazy Little Thing Called Love, 7) Somebody To Love, 8) Play The Game, 9) You're My Bext Friend, 10) Another One Bites The Dust. The only downside to this disk is that they left out about a hundred other songs. I sincerely hope that The String Quartet comes out with a volume 2, but why stop there. They could go on forever with just Queen Classics.
Do yourself a favor. If you like Queen and Classical Music BUY THIS CD. You won't be sorry.

Two words: Bohemian Rahpsody.

THey could have released a CD with only this song and I would have bought/borrowed/stolen it to get it. This song is definitely a highlight, but don't stop there, since the rest of the CD will make you want to play it over and over again.

If you've been thinking about buying a String Quartet Tribute, but don't know which to buy, I would buy this one, without a doubt.

Buy the AC/DC one instead.......2004-06-04

Until you've heard your favorite band covered in a different genre, you never really know how good or bad their music really is. In this case KISS' music is for KISS only. Not country/blue grass. I think the one thing that struck the side of my head like a brick from a truck with a gun rack, was just how insipid KISS lyrics truly are. This is a fun album. Don't get me wrong, but KISS doesn't work in this arena. On the other hand, the reason why this band exists is AC/DC. Their first album of AC/DC tunes is excellent and displays how well everything works in the world of mountain music.

Where Hayseed Dixie succeed is in their ability to take their incredible musicianship and apply it toward a genre of music that is about as far from their area of expertise as one can possibly get. They are obviously KISS fans (as evidenced by the "I'm so alive" added into Detroit Rock City to mimic Paul Stanley's ad lib from the Alive II album) and they do the songs justice on this excellent album. Grab a beer or two, sit on the porch, crank up this CD and enjoy an album that is as fun as any that have come along recently. If you're a KISS fan and don't take yourself too seriously, this is a CD for you. I've been a KISS fan ever since I cut a day of grammar school so I could run to the record store just as Love Gun was being put on the shelves for sale, and I think Hayseed Dixie are the Hottest Band in the World.

A Great Tribute To A Great Band!!.......2003-07-16

The Hayseed Dixie (name sounds like AC/DC) boys are back and are once again sending a hillbilly tribute out to another "Band in Black.....KISS! The AC/DC tribute was great, but it kind of spoiled the "newness" of this type of tribute to any KISS fans who just picked up this CD.

One quick word to the gentleman who said KISS is a 3 chord band. You must not know your KISSTORY. KISS's music is very complex at times. I have been playing guitar for years and I still find alot of thier work challenging.

Anyways, this is a great CD. Any KISS fan would be pleased with this recording. This is also a great way for alot of bluegrass/country/comedy listeners to get into the band. This vocals on the CD is very soothing in a bluegrass kind of way. Hayseed Dixie are great musicians and they know thier KISS. Most of the tracks on this CD are laid-back versions of the real songs with a couple of exceptions. "Cold Gin" and "Love Gun" are great examples of this. Faster songs on this cut such as "Rock N Roll all Night" and "Lets Put the X in Sex" speed the album up just when it needs it.

In conclusion, I would recommed this album to anyone who is a KISS fan, but, don't take it too seriously. KISS fan's buy it now, Hayseed Dixie and Bluegrass fans might want to brush up on some classic KISS before buying this CD.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars b/c i wish Hayseed Dixie would add some drums to thier work. Thanks!!![.]

A Deliverance Nightmare!.......2003-06-02

While listening to this album I felt as if the kid from Deliverance was gonna pop into my bedroom window with his Banjo and try to put the moves on me. KISS is three chord hard rock, no matter how these guys try, they can't make it sound good with a banjo and twangy accents. It's worse then their AC/DC hillbilly music. Unless you totally dig banjo music, stay away from this album. It's not funny, it's like karoke with a banjo.

These are real musicians.......2003-02-22

Well first off to all the nay-sayers out there. These are real musicians. The Banjo player and the mandolin player are as real as they come. There names are Dale and Don Reno. There known as the Reno Brothers. They by themselves have made over 20 CD's and are well know in the Bluegrass music field. They have been on the Grand Old Opry on many many times. They also had there own show on TNN, it was called the Reno Old Time Music Hour. They are very good and I know them personally. There father was very well known, he co-wrote the music for "The Dueling Banjos" preformed by Flatt and Scruggs.
I'd heard Hayseed Dixie on the Bob and Tom Show. I purchased the first CD by them before I knew The Reno Bros. were band members. They use alias names in the band. I can't wait to see them live here in Nashville. There playing Live tonight and I'm going to catch the show.
Get the CD it's worth the money.

Here comes your tribute........2006-11-20

This collection of Pixies covers reminds me of most any other tribute-type album. It's decent, and alot of the bands do a good job. Sure they don't compare for the most part, but it's somewhat nice to hear songs you know well given a new spin. Mostly I'd say this is a must for the fanatic. However, LIKE most every tribute album I've ever heard, it just makes you want to listen to the real thing. So why not?

Yes, it's not the pixies, and yea it doesnt have that "feeling" of the rawness of the pixies, but they're just covers. and you dont need to diss weezer and the other bands too. The album of course isnt a pixies album, some of the covers are painful, but its not that incredibly horrible either. I love Pixies, and also love Weezer. So thats my review, and chill.

This is horrible.......2005-06-17

I have to say that the Pixies are one of my favorite bands, but this is so bad. I was curious and decided to listen to the clips and I have to say that these rendidions of some of my favorite songs were worse than what I hear when I turn on the radio. These bands absolutely destroyed everything that I loved about these classic songs. I could barely listen to the entire clips. The version of Gigantic was painful, Surfer Rosa was all about raw energy, not to sound like a Britney Spears song. La La Love You sounds like a pervese 3-some, the Pixies version was so good because it was so intentioally cheesy. I also have to say that, for everything other that the Pixes I absolutely hate screaming, but when Black Francis did his screaming it was enteraining and never prevented their songs from truely being pop songs, with there HORRIBLE vocalists doing their screams the whole effect is lost. And why is All Over the World mixed with Monkey Gone to Heaven. Well... at least there weren't versions of: Debaser, Broken Face, Bone Machine, The Happening, and so many of my other favories.

Weezer vs the Pixies.......2004-08-21

some of the bands on this album actually were pretty good. But I have to agree that the pixies are definately way better and more important and more relevant than weezer. Pixies never put out a bad album and they're never afraid to experiment. Weezer never goes beyond the same three chords. Sucking up to weezer is having your head up rolling stones ass more than the pixies. Rolling Stone never paid attention to the pixies in their heyday.

nice qualitycafe. overall i thought that the album was great. i'm a huge fan of the pixies, but i still believe that weezer is the better band. qualitycafe, you need to take off your rollingstone t-shirt and get out and actually listen to the music. i'm sure that weezer is really upset that they didn't get as many stars on the rollingstone website that the pixies did, i mean when they count their money all the way to the bank, im sure they really regret not kissing rollingstone's ass. i love people who like to follow the latest trend and go with what mtv and rollingstone have to say. poser, loser. sum 41? what the hell is that all about? jesus do you even know who weezer is? get yourself away, get yourself a job, dont you be a slob. peace out loser.

I love this cd. It does MCR a lot of justice. I do think that they deter somewhat from the originals, but I think it adds to the cd. The Jetset Life is Gonna Kill You is a great cover. It blends perfect elements. I like the cd, but I wouldn't pay 17 dollars for it like they are asking for on here.

I was ecstatic when I found this cd and I bought it right away. After listening I can tell you I definitely wasn't dissapointed. I even had people who have claimed before that they did not like My Chemical Romance say that they liked the tribute to them. Everything is very well put together, I think it makes an excellent cd.

It is not a horrible cd at all, but I would not suggest people who do not really like their music get it. Some of the ways they wrote the stuff out could of been better to stay more true to the original, but over all I like it.

Not Bad, but need a second album..........2007-06-24

How can you have an ACDC tribute album without Highway To Hell. The music on this album is very good, but is unfullfilling without the aforemenioned number. I encourage them to make a second CD with more ACDC tunes on it, to really cover all the bases.

I think that the reviewer that gave this CD a single star has not heard this CD because:

1. It is an excellent CD
2. The guy who did it, did the Coldplay CD
3. The site he gave is the Record Label that this CD is on and this CD can be bought there

i respect the whole neo-classical thing, but this cd is bad. sounds like somone sequenced the songs in their synthesizer. check out http://www.thetributeto.com/acdc/ . they perform their tributes, and do it well. i haven't heard their ac/dc tribute, but their other tributes (linkin park, 311, coldplay) are awesome.

Totally Suprised!!!.......2003-09-01

I read about this CD on an AC/DC Fan site and they had a link to purchase it here. I bought the CD without hearing any clips or anything. So, buying it sight unseen, made me feel a little aprehensive.

Well, when it arrived I couldn't wait. I took it with me to work and played it in the car on the way. WHAT A GREAT CD & A GREAT IDEA!!! I love this CD! After hearing how well done this CD was, I decided to do something special for my wife ....and .... I took the next day off from work (which was a Friday) and prepared a wonderful steak dinner while my wife was at her job. I got a really good bottle of wine and I set the table with our finest table settings ... Candles lit and everything prepared ...When she got home, I had the candles burning, the lights were out, the table was set and I started the CD.... KAHPOWW!!! She freaked completely out! Needless to say, we had a wonderful time and what a way to romance my Rock & Roll Queen!!!

We've been fans of AC/DC since the 80s and this is probably one of our favorite AC/DC CDs, now!

I would suggest this CD to anyone who loves AC/DC and wants to add some spark to their romance .... We have candlelit dinners a couple times a month now and this CD is the main attraction!!!

I gave this CD a go because I am a huge Barenaked Ladies fan. The Bluegrass element was awesome, and gave the songs a different feel. They did the songs exactly as the original studio recordings from BNL. Excellent overall. Pick up this disk and enjoy.
