Starlight......Starbright!.......2007-06-23
Joyful! This is a star studded collection guaranteed to take you down memory lane almost hand in hand with Linda. Her intimate song stylings could even make standards and ballads seem like golden oldies, for she is vivacious, sparkling and exuberant! You may relive first love like it's a walk in the park. All of these songs about stars seem a metaphor for the singer...a star in her own right. In this collection are ten song titles about "stars" and even some moonbeams thrown in too. There are 8 songs in a row about stars. It's a rare and impeccable CD!
Forgotten singers.......2007-05-14
This is a great album by a cute little gal with a big voice. Her songs were popular when I was a young man out of high school and it's great to relive them.
Linda Scott album.......2007-03-14
Wow, really neat sounds. I loved the hits as well as the other songs on the CD. If you love the girl sounds of the 50's and 60's, you'll love this album! I recommend it highly!
Linda Scott: Star Vocalist.......2007-01-13
Linda Scott was unfortunately an underrated talent by the media. She had a great vocal instrument and she knew how to utilize it to its fullest capacity. Her bright sparkling voice has an instant appeal. She knew how to phrase the lyric and deliver the melody in stunning fashion. She had many hits including the million seller, "I Told Every Little Star" which was recently featured in David Lynch's film, "Mulholland Drive". She was originally signed to a recording contract by the Winnipeg record mogul, Neil Galligan, who produced all the songs on this release. I treasure the fact that a local personality was responsible for bringing this great talent to a wider audience. I always felt that she should have had a broader following like Petula Clark. The arrival of The Beatles really put a damper on the American Pop Rock Ballad Singer. Woman singers like Lesley Gore, Connie Francis, Connie Stevens et al went into a sharp decline and had to find other venues for their talent. The British invasion had their pop rock ballad singer equivalents like Tom Jones, Englebert Humperdinck, Petula Clark and Dusty Springfield but their American counterparts like Gene Pitney, Bobby Vee, Ricky Nelson, Dionne Warwick and many others were relagated to the backburner. But now here is Linda Scott once more sounding great in a state-of-the-art compact disc. Eric Records deserves our deepest gratitude and highest praise for this superlative release. Perhaps, they might consider releasing more or all of her recordings as she never made a bad record. An artist of Linda Scott's calibre deserves to have her releases in public domain once more. I am certain her great song stylings will be appreciated by many old and new fans alike. It's wonderful that these songs are available again by this great singer. Linda Scott's time has finally come again!
I can't believe it !!.......2006-02-25
Actually, I haven't purchased this item yet. I'm just thrilled to find it. I've been searching for the song "Starlight, Starbright" for years, without really knowing the exact name of the song. Long, long ago, when I was about to enter the 7th grade, I heard this song when I was at a friends house. The old 45 record had actually been purchased for "Don't Bet Money, Honey" but I liked the flip side better. Everytime that I went down the street to visit my friend Debby, I got out "Starlight, Starbright, and played it as loud and as long as she would let me. I've sung it over the years to my friends, but no one knew the exact name or who had sung it. Thank goodness for the internet....it saved the day. After long hours of searching, I've finally found THE song. Just had to share my joy! YIPPEE!

Priceless is a pretty ambitious name for a CD, but Frankie J's second English-language disc does play like something that ought to be brought to shoppers' attention by way of a loudspeaker and a gleaming blue strobe light. As of opening track "That Girl," the man who launched a thousand comparisons to Usher comes out swinging and bobbing to a Chamillionaire- and Mannie Fresh-enhanced beat: "shake-it-shake-it-shake-it-shake-it-shake-it," Chamillionaire commands when he's not fueling Frankie's obsession for a girl with a "face like a supermodel/body built just like a Coke bottle." Forty-five minutes of pure R&B flow, some of it laid atop a hopped-up dance vibe, follow: "Never Let You Down," featuring Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, could be part of a producer's PowerPoint presentation on the expert scuffing of a pretty ballad; "If He Can't Be" conjures the spiky-haired spirit of Billy Idol (or at least his inescapable hit "Eyes Without a Face") for a sneaky seduction; "Hurry Up" hustles out of the speakers with thump-hearted urgency; and the midtempo "I Ain't Trippin'" coasts on glass-clear vocals--"Even though you've got a man, even though I've got a girl/I like the way it's going down," sings Sir J in a Timberlake-reminiscent falsetto. Latin, R&B, dance, and hip-hop fans will like what's going down here, too--if Priceless proves anything, it's that Frankie's bent on freeing himself not only from comparisons with other sexy crooners but from genre conventions as well. The former Kumbia King has entered an exploratory phase, and it's serving him well--if he keeps it up, don't count on seeing his discs in the sale rack anytime soon. --Tammy La Gorce

Frankie!!!!! .......2007-02-10
I would give him 100 stars if I could! I love this CD. I loooove Frankie J! He is my favorite R&B singer and no one has a voice like he does. He's sooooo awesome!
The Best Yet........2006-12-15
I own all of Franke J's CD's and this is the only one where I love every single song on it. On all of his other efforts there seems to be a handful of songs that I like and the others seem to be just plain bland and boring. It is great from beginning to end. This CD has the perfect blend of great slower songs to uptempo R&B jams. Frankie has such a good, smooth and captivating voice that just draws you in.
1. "That Girl" - The first single released from this CD with a great melody and catchy beat that makes you want to bounce. A hook that you will find yourself humming and/or singing to. 5/5
2. "Priceless" - The title track from this CD is a nice slow jam with great vocals. Not one of the best slower songs on here but, it still great. 3/5
3. "Never Let You Down" - Love this song! A great feature from Bone. A nice midtempo song with a great melody. 5/5
4. "Daddy's Little Girl" - WOW! One of the BEST tracks on this CD. A tight ballad from start to finish. His vocals are on point. A great message! 5/5
5. "If He Can't Be" - My FAVORITE song on here!!! Awesome sample from the 80's smash "Eyes Without A Face" by Billy Idol. A hot midtempo groove. The vocals are perfect. You will repeat this song several tims!! HOT!
6. "Say Something" - A nice slower-midtempo song. Not one of the best on here but, his voice shines throughout. Good melody. 4/5
7. "Hurry Up" - Tight song! Makes you want to bob your head. Very refreshing sound. 5/5
8. "Is This What You Call Love?" - A top notch ballad! Very beatiful sound! A highlight on this CD. The vocals are amazing! A very infectious song 5/5
9. "Top Of The Line" - A faster song with a good beat. The melody is not as exciting. Not much substance to the words. The beat makes the song. 3/5
10. "Dance" - Good song. Just like the title says: You will want to DANCE. Hot beat! 5/5
11. "Still" - Nice melody and lyrics. A great midtempo songs. His voice is so good. 5/5
12. "I Ain't Trippin'" - A good song to close the album with. A more upbeat song with a good lyrical melody sung in a great falsetto tone. 5/5
Frankie J is always so underrated but his CD is a MUST have!! It's an excellent addition to any music collection.

How Very Dare They!.......2006-11-11
I am really angry at how the Bonus Track 'Break' was taken off the CD! This happens to be one of the best songs off the album, making it only available on Itunes is completely unfair! I LIKE PHYSICAL CD'S! NOT DOWNLOADS!
If there are any Frankie J fans out there, look out for 'Break' which is an 'Album Only' track on Itunes, so you can't even download it, on its own!
The Priceless album, somewhat continues to carry on the legacy of Frankie's albums, in that they're really likeable, with various catchy songs, but on the whole aren't as breathtakingly original as some other artists, like Justin Timberlake (Furture/Sex), who although is not half as talented as Frankie, has some excellent producers, which helps to escalate quality.
Nevertheless, the album does have some true gems, such as 'If He Can't Be', which is a nice homage to 80's music, and is damn well catchy and original in a music chart full of typically generic R'n'B tunes.
Other highlights obviously include 'Break', and 'Still' which are the standard well sung ballads, you come to expect of Frankie's albums. His theme song 'Priceless' is also a very good track, with hints of the old skool, Bobby Brown sound.
The rest of the album is a little run of the mill, with the exception of Daddy's Little Girl, which is reminiscent of Kelly Clarkson's 'Because of You', which is a good thing.
Let's hope the next album is even better than the this one, and fingers crossed, Timbaland will have something to do with it.

4.5 stars - excellent.......2006-11-10
Kelly Price delivers and extremely strong R&B release that was unfortunately looked over.
Solid.......2006-05-04
I thought this was a solid contemporary R&B album. I think this disc contains her most explosive performances, and her conviction is apparent. I think that this cd is markedly 'lighter' in terms of subject matter and ambience because she may have been looking for a more 'fun' album. I think the lighter mood works. I really think she should try gospel, though, her best performances "You Brought the Sunshine" and "God's Favor"(which isn't on this album) seem to be fueled by religious fervor.
The woman that knows.......2005-09-07
I feel like kelly is my sister of soul. She make the music connect with her black sisters. To feel that connection with a person you don't even know it is wonderful. If you can make that connection with your fans well you are making money.
Another Sad Display of a wasted voice........2004-12-21
Kelly Prices latest effort is a prime display of a Superior voice with inferior material. First of all Kelly Price should not be singing pop songs or anything close. She is one of the very few singers around today that has enormous talent however that talent barely presented itself in a long album of "quiet" singing and annoying pop tunes. This is a singer with the capability (as weve seen in the past) to tear the house down and take it to church with her powerful, unfaltering vocals. However she does that on only one, yes one, of the song son this album and that song is "He Proposed" which in my opinion is the only song on the album worth listening to. Im sorry Kelly I wish i could have revied this better but please stick to relying on ur vocal ability and not catchy tunes to sell ur albums. From a truly dissapointed fan.
Another great album from Kelly! .......2004-10-19
I thought that Priceless deserved to be promoted more. But the album is another fabulous effort from Kelly. Despite it being 71 minutes (compared to Mirror Mirror's 64 and the debut's 55 minutes), this is very consistent throughout. What's interesting is that she recorded most of this album in Nashville, versus the typical LA/ New York studios mentality of most artists. But the album is solid, from Take it to the Head, to He Proposed to How Does It Feel(Married Your Girl), to the soulful You Brought the Sunshine with the Clark Sisters. There's one song that sounds a little bit like one of Faith Evans' songs, but she actually pulls it off on the song. I wished that the record company didn't push the album back a year later (were they worried it wasn't competitive with the rock bands, Britney, Christina, Backstreet, or NSYNC dominating the music charts?). It would have fit very well with the competition. Kelly's a true talent in her own right and hope that her fourth one is well accepted.

If what you want to do is melt into delicious music..........2003-12-27
Johnny Hartman is the perfect choice - maybe the only voice that can produce the sensory vertigo I experienced the first time I heard him sing "You are too Beautiful..."
Then, when I read Billy Collins' poem likening Hartman's voice to the smoke of a forgotten cigarette curling up from an ashtray sitting atop a baby grand piano in the dark hours of early morning (I hope I'm not doing the poem a terrible disservice - I don't have the words - or should I say lyrics - memorized; only the feelings the poetry stirs in me!), I could have died and gone straight to heaven. (Maybe I did.)
Johnny Hartman's Everything, and Billy Collins' Poetry-and-Everything, are a perfect fit. Buy this CD and get your hands on a copy of the slender, perfect book, "The Art of Drowning," and see what I mean.
It is a shame that Johnny Hartman was never as widely recognized for his wonderfulness as he most certainly should have been. He was and is the best. It's not fair to music lovers everywhere that he is no longer around to perform. Moreover, it is terribly unfair to me that I wasn't around to meet Johnny Hartman, and that Billy Collins is not my next door neighbor. We could talk about jazz and poetry and I would buy my sugar from a little shop in town, one cup at a time. To replace the cup I had borrowed the day before...
Pure Joy.......2003-04-20
An extremely nice collection -- great selection of songs (including some of his collaborations with John Coltrane), well-programmed, and the sound quality is excellent. And if you don't know Johnny Hartman, you're in for a real treat. I don't usually do "buy this CD!" reviews, but really -- buy this CD! Hartman's voice is delicate, rich, smooth and sophisticated and the arrangements and playing are impeccable. One of my favorite jazz singers -- perhaps my favorite. After all, how many people could record a song made famous by Frank Sinatra ("Wee Small Hours") and improve on the original? And as another reviewer said, Hartman's lack of fame is an enduring mystery.
Why isn't this guy more famous?.......2000-12-20
I cannot believe I had never heard of this guy before a few months ago. I was stunned speechless the first time I heard his rendition of "They Say It's Wonderful," with John Coltrane. Everyone I've played this record for has the same reaction.
Having listened to him for a few months, I can tell that his voice works best with small bands. He didn't record many songs in front of big orchestras or lush, syrupy string sections. This is probably why he didn't achieve pop status and is identified more with purist jazz; it is also why his recordings sound more timeless. You do not have to be a jazz fan to love his album.
By all rights, Hartman should be as famous or more so than Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole, and a dozen other "crooners" who, in my opinion, couldn't approach his incredible nuance and emotional power.

This Is the Voice of Jazz.......1999-12-01
While I've been a devoted fan of Joe Williams for years, and while I can tolerate Billy Eckstine, the voice of jazz belongs to none other than Johnny Hartman. This Priceless Jazz Collection should be on all top 100 lists of Jazz to Own. Some of the tracks here are taken from the historic early 60s recordings that Hartman did with Coltrane. "The More I See You" is my favorite song in this collection. Hartman's voice is masculine yet sensitive; it pulls you in and keeps you in. One might also wish to hear his swinging portrayal as Crown in the just re-released Porgy and Bess (with Mel Torme as Porgy & Frances Faye as Bess--available from Amazon.com). That brassy and swinging sensibility is here in these songs--even in the ballads, and the majority of these songs are ballads. Listen to Hartman's take on "In the Wee Small Hours," and you'll never want to hear Sinatra's version again. This is a must own!
