Excellent CD. Doreen has a very soothing voice spoken in a relaxed manner. The soft music in the background enhances the relaxed mood without becoming a focus in itself. The script she uses is concise enough to provide adequate guidance yet open-ended enough to make listining to it a very personal experience which can be listened to again and again as if it were the first time.
Try high quality speakers.......2007-07-08
I bought this cd along with several others. After awhile this has become my favorite. It's not the words or imagery, and this might sound wierd.
I tried it out recently on a higher quality system with expensive speakers. It may just be me, but it has the effect of percodan or loritab (pain medication).
Something about her voice, on the high end speakers multiplies the effect of relaxing me, even as I'm sitting up with eyes open. On my $100 stereo it's nothing special although still my favorite.

This CD is a strange mix of things -- from a guided imagery trip to a tale about a boy building a wall. Whatever. The bottom line is that it puts me to sleep almost every time. I can't remember the last time I heard the CD to the end. Maybe only twice out of 60 playings.
I can still have problems staying asleep (insomnia and mild sleep apnea) but that's another issue.
My wife has a bunch of Wendi Freisen CDs which absolutely do not work for me. Where Wendi's voice grates and annoys, Doreen's voice is, "like buttah".

Sweet sleep!.......2006-08-25
I bought this for my husband to help with his relaxation and sleep. Not only does he love it, but I do to! I put it in my DVD player at night, set the tv for auto shut off and Doreen knocks me out! I've been sleeping so well myself since listening to her. She has a great voice for relaxation, and I've yet to hear the whole cd! I also gave this to my mom who has problems with sleeping and she dittos what I've said.

A great CD for those who appreciate movie themes.......2000-10-06
I enjoyed this CD because Leonard Martin does a good job in selecting the scores of movies that are special in itself, outside from the context of the movie. His selection is diverse, in the sense that it includes scores of not only the big blockbusters of the 90s (Titanic, Saving Private Ryan, Braveheart), but also of the movies that have already been forgotten (Fast, Cheap and Out of Control, and The Rainmaker). There is reasoning behind such a selection, according to Martin: "Some scores wear well over time and provide a rewarding experience long after the movie begins to recede in one's memory."
Martin selects the scores from a variety of film genres (drama, dark comedy, suspense,for example) which translates into a well rounded compilation of musical pieces (classical,spanish-inspired, blues, etc). He also includes liner notes reagrding each selection and composer, which serves as a brief, yet interesting, background regarding each selection.
The only qualm that I have with the CD is the abscence of some of my personal favorites, which are certainly memorable both as films and as scores. Reagarding such statements Martin states that "Lists, of course, are highly arbitrary and designed to provoke argument." Moreover, Martin acknowledges that selections are not the only great scores of the past decade; they are, however, among his favorites. I definitely agree with him on this statement.
Purchase the CD for not only your favorites but for the nice variety that Martin put together. You will be surprised that you will love the scores, even of the movies you may not have seen!

One of the most underrated and unheard Techno genera masters I know to exist....if only Megabass and Two Little BOys ahd continued to produce music, perhaps Techno would be a totally different artform now.

If you love TNG and want all of the best of the soundtracks, then buy this! It'll save you money, and the TNG soundtracks are some of the best. The magic of this series can come alive, and it has a ton of music from all episodes, including mixed in versions that are really "cool".

I Own It and Would Buy It Again!!!.......2007-05-15
This is adult urban music at it's best. Originally released in 1991, the song's on this album played on both Smooth Jazz and Urban Adult radio. Take Control, Whatever, In and Out of Love, Wishful Thinking, I Live For You, and Time After Time are the best songs in this group. I highly recommend this disc for your collection.
Excellent Artist.......2006-10-09
I was turned on to Gary Taylor just recently by a co-worker....now I am online getting ready to purchase his CD, Take Control. I especially loves "In and out of Love" and "I will be here". I can never get through the entire CD without re-winding it.
He is truly an amazing artist. Madd props to Gary Taylor.
Criminally underrated and underexposed........2004-06-11
Gary Taylor is a great artist whose works most certainly deserve greater airplay and radio exposure. Unlike so many of today's so-called "R&B singers", Gary is truly a "LOVE MAN" whose heartfelt romantic ballads touch one's heart and soul. "Whatever", "Sign My Life Away", "In And Out Of Love" and "Time After Time" are your reasons for buying this CD.
The Hidden Treasure.......2003-05-21
This man knows how to mix the good lyrics & instruments blend it together & the result a pure joy. The track " I live for U" is very special to me. All the songs in this CD are great. I listen to this CD everytime before I go to work. The title track "take control" is great. This CD is a must have. Having problems getting that special someone? if yes, Yo problem has just been solved, get this CD and prepare a white table dinner for two & let Gary Taylor do the work for U.Before the evening is over that girl will be all yours for the taking.
Gary Taylor: The Outstanding Lyricist.......2000-08-08
If you have not heard Take Control by Gary Taylor, you are truly missing out on a treat. Gary's music is absolute poetry that is set in the most beautiful melodies. The lyrics are not the "bubble gum" type that is prevalent in a lot of songs you hear today. The words have a deep meaning and tell a story that sometimes require long periods of listening to fully understand them. And, the deep meanings of his music add to the beauty of it. The songs are so thought-provoking that you have no choice but to listen to them over and over. If you've ever been love and have had good or bad experiences, Gary's music has something meaningful to say to everyone. Again, I say, if you have not listened to Take Control, you MUST check it out!
