This Is What The 80s Sounded Like.......2007-04-21
Those of you who follow my reviews know that I don't hand out 5 star reviews very often or easily
in this case,Autograph have richly deserved this honor
Sign in please is the debut of one of rock and rolls most underrated bands
they came in the middle of the 80s and dominated the airwaves with 'Turn Up The Radio' a song that was so catchy and good that you couldn't ignore it
but the surprise is that every song on this debut is just as good
you can almost see the whole band smiling as they play song after song of perfect rock and roll
the keyboards sound cheesy but that's part of the appeal
this is what the 80s was all about, good times, smiles, and having fun
other rock bands of that time couldn't quite grasp that (some did, like bon jovi, poison and y&t but Autograph was one of the first)
I listen to this all the time and smile each and every time
the opening track 'send her to me' is straight ahead rock and roll filled with keyboards, bright guitars, and smiling vocals...you can almost hear the carnival rides in the background or feel yourself roller skating,it's just plain fun!
then comes "turn up the radio' one of the best and most fun rock songs of all time...boy did RCA drop the ball, when they had this MONSTER hit they should have released another single or two from this great album but they never did...what a waste...the label never pushed this band and they dropped out of sight after this (they released other albums but they never got the attention they should have)
from there it goes to night teen and non stop...a real guilty pleasure, always gives me happy thoughts of teenage night life
the next song 'Cloud Ten' should have been a tv theme song,it has that kind of feel...good times!
from there 'Deep End' a great song
and then 'My Girlfriend's Boyfriend Isn't Me' one of the stand out songs from this album...this should have been a hit single...all about a girl who can't make up her mind..great chorus and very catchy, the lyrics are all too true!!
from there 'Thrill Of Love' the keyboards really make this song great!!!
the next song 'Friday' sums up what the 80s was all about...having a good time all the time...God,I miss those days!!!
the next song 'In The Night' has lots of atmosphere and really grooves
and the album ends strongly with 'All I'm Gonna Take' which is a mid-tempo rocker that has lots of atmosphere and emotion
this band is absolutely amazing...if you love Night Ranger,or Bon Jovi or Poison or Y&T you should check them out...also if you love Bill Hunt's solo material (the lead singer of Christian rock band X-Terra) you would absolutely love Autograph....this band has everything it takes!
the upside - Great songs start to finish...the best of the best are 'Turn Up The Radio' 'Night Teen And Non Stop' 'All I'm Gonna Take' 'Send Her To Me' and 'My Girlfriend's Boyfriend Isn't Me'
the downside - their record label not pushing them more! This band should have been HUGE!!!
the bottom line - no matter what kind of music you love, please go out and buy this album...if you want to show people what the 80s sounded like this is the perfect example!!! It doesn't get much better than this...donutman says so!!!
DON'T OVER-ANALYZE IT, IT'S GREAT ROCK!!! .......2006-08-28
I remember loving this album when I was a teenager. Listening to it nowadays, I still enjoy it. A lot of it is cliched, and some of the lyrics are pretty laughable. But I remembered that one of the things I liked about the band was that it had a sense of humor. Probably originating from singer Plunkett!!! It's fun music, not music to brood about, and take apart critically. TURN UP THE RADIO is a great song, with a fantastic solo. Pretty much all the solos by Steve Lynch are phenomenal, and he triple-tracked a lot of them ala Randy Rhoads. I saw him once at a guitar seminar, and he played the solos for us note-for-note with backing tracks, including his solo piece HAMMERHEAD (which is on their second album), and it was great. His work was a big part of what I liked about Autograph.
The music is mid 80s rock fare... not too hard. Lots of keyboards on this... sort of reminiscent of the style employed by the band EUROPE a few years later. The vocalist has a raspy style, with a little David Lee Roth in him now and then (vocal quips). The guitarist is a state of the art hammering specialist, with an ability to write phenomenal solos that remain melodic and interesting. Overall, the album is good solid rock with a good beat, and with more than average humor (in the lyrics). With a song like MY GIRLFRIEND'S BOYFRIEND ISN'T ME, how can you not see that these guys are out to crack you up and rock you at the same time.
I just bought this again, and I'm enjoying it for the fun of it. It's not a classic band (like Led Zeppelin, for example), but they rock extremely well and you'll have fun driving around to their jams!
Musical Group Autograph.......2006-08-10
A great California glamrock band of the eighties era, Autograph was a fantastic group with a fantastic sound. The album "Sign In Please" was some of the best music I believe Steve "Plunk" Plunkett ever recorded. Thats my opinion and I'm stickin to it. The first seven songs straight is one hit after another. The second track "Turn Up The Radio" is the song that drew me to the album back then and once I had the album I wanted to play it over and over non-stop. Every song on this album is great and still deserves air-play even today though most radio stations have done forgotten what Autograph was but I haven't. Glamrock to me was a magical experience back in the mid-eighties and all the groups back then were doing it. The failure of the group Autograph was not the group at all, it was in the marketing which was RCA's failure. If you like guitar roller coasters loud and wild then you'll like Autograph. It's a ride you'll never want to get off.
Hell Yeah, this is what we need.......2006-03-20
Ah... Autograph... I just bought this album.. And jeezlaweez, I am not disappointed at all.. These guys really kicked some butt. Their sound is excellent.. These guys sort of remind me of Firehouse/White Lion a little.. If you love hair metal... Get it, just get it.

One Of Denver's Best.......2005-08-23
My wife and I picked up a cassette copy of this album on our way to California from New York. For years we played it until it broke and CDs were the new thing. But this album didn't get released right away and I thought I would never hear it again. Well it's on CD now and it is one of Denver's best ones. It is filled with the usual songs of nature that made John Denver so popular. His version of How Mountain Girls Can Love stands up to any bluegrass group out there. The two bonus tracks are not just some cheasy tracks that were laying around but are gems themselves. If you like John Denver then you need to pick up this CD and sit back and enjoy!!
The best message sent by John Denver to the masses!.......2003-08-10
John Denver experienced a string of monster hits prior to this album. Rocky Mountain High, Take Me Home Country Roads, and Annie's Song we're all sewn into the public's conscious. My personal favorite John Denver album is Windsong because I feel it is one of the best flowing album out there with many commercial hits, but this one has a different feel. Throughout the entire musical production, one can't help but think the environment played a crucial roll with John Denver at this time, as it always had. However, this album has the feel of a John Denver struggling to make the public aware of ecological and social problems affecting the earth as a whole. The result is a beautiful work of art. My personal favorites are How Mountain Girls Can Love, Wrangell Mountain Song (A Remake of a song he did on the Spirit album), You Say That the battle is Over, The Mountain Song, and of course, Autograph. Just from looking at the list of songs, one would expect it would have continued the John Denver jewell of consitency when it comes to commercial succes, but if the consumer looks at the release date, 1980, well, that date pretty much says it all. Excessiveness was the thing to do, as was being cynical. The good news is, the great artists are never truly remembered in their time, age has done nothing but make this music amazing.
End of an era.......2003-05-25
Milton Okun was John's producer and mentor for many years. They worked together on all his albums up to and including this one, released in 1980. Although this was not the last time they worked together, things were never the same again. Following this album, John experimented with different producers. Some of these produced great albums, but in a slightly different style. So this album, Autograph, was the last of its kind.
The style of this album is typical of John - rooted in folk but with elements of pop and country, with a bluegrass influence on one or two tracks. Classifying John's music was never easy but that's how he liked it. The quality is all that matters, and you get plenty of that here, especially with addition of two bonus tracks. They were recorded for possible inclusion in the original album and were certainly good enough.
John often sang about nature and the environment, and this album is packed with such songs. Normally, these songs are set in the Rockies, but many of the songs on this album are set in Alaska (Wrangell mountain song, American child, Whalebones and crosses). The Rockies are not completely overlooked - they are the setting for The mountain song. Even the love songs generally relate in some way to the environment, as in How mountain girls can love.
John did not record a lot of covers, but he always chose wisely when he did record them. Here you can here his outstanding version of Rodney Crowell's Song for the life.
This was not one of John's most commercially successful albums, but it was only because he was out of fashion at the time. If this album had appeared a few years earlier it would have generated the sales it deserved. It is a classic.
Hauntingly beautiful.......2002-04-29
Autograph is a wonderful cd...I deeply appreciate John's rendition of 'Song for the Life' and 'You Say that the Battle is Over' and 'The Mountain Song'...and the depth of understanding he communicates in 'Whalebones and Crosses' evokes in the perceptive listener that same understanding of the truth he is expressing. 'American Child' is a call to each of us (as are so many of John's ballads)...and the title track "Autograph' is John Denver at his best--expressing the feelings of his heart. I highly recommend this cd--if you are someone who remembers JD for the hit songs only, you are in for a real eye opener into the depth of style, emotion and messages JD expressed through his music. Autograph has been a favorite lp & tape of mine for many years...and the cd version is excellent!
I finally found it!!!!.......2002-03-21
I bought the cassette of this album in the very early 80's and played it A LOT until it wore out and was never able to replace it. I didn't realize it was never one of John's bestsellers --silly people, they didn't know what they were missing! Unfortunatly it was after John's untimely death that the label decided to re-release the album on CD. Yeeaa! Now I finally have it in my grubby little paws again and can happily play it all that my heart desires. The songs 'Whalebones and Crosses', 'You say that the Battle is Over' and the one about Prince Edward's Island show John's genius. See for your self, I think you'll be pleasently surprised.

Great Chamber music........2007-01-10
This is an absorbing collection of Schenck's sonatas and suites, with the viola de gamba sounding elegant and clear (rather than mushy or morose, as it sometimes can in music of this period). These are quiet but complex and rewarding pieces which hold my interest even after multiple playings. The two Schenck 'Nymphs of the Rhine' discs by Naxos are also very good, but those contain only two viola de gamba's throughout, whereas this disc offers a little more variety of sound.
highly recommended !
Baroque Viola da Gamba Virtuosity.......2005-03-25
Lorenz Duftschmid plays a viola da gamba with other period-instrument musicians in a recording of viola da gamba pieces with and without accompaniment by Johannes Schenck (c1656-c1712).
"CPO is always willing to take a chance on a rare composer, and this gamble hits the jackpot. This is among the most brilliant, sophisticated music to come out of the Baroque, and Schenck's mastery of the possibilities of the viola da gamba surely rivals Saint-Colombe and Marais. Lorenz Duftschmid is a marvelous musician, and he plays this music at the highest imaginable level (10/10)." (David Preiser - classicstoday.com)
The works on this recording:
1. Suite in G major for Viola da Gamba: Chaconne from Scherzi Musicali, Op. 6
2. Suite No. 6 in G minor for 2 Viola da Gambas from The Nymphs of the Rhine, Op. 8
3. Sonata No. 1 in D major for Viola da Gamba from L'echo du Danube, Op. 9
4. Partita in D minor for Viola da Gamba (1705) from a Vienna manuscript
5. Solo in A minor for Viola da Gamba (1705) from a Vienna manuscript

Album Description
Appearing in 1984, seemingly from out of nowhere, Autograph, unsigned at the time, were hand picked by Van Halen to open a mammoth North American concert trek - an accomplishment that quickly led to their inking with industry giant RCA Records and an ensuing hit single, the energetic and infectious, 'Turn Up The Radio' which made the US top 30. Feted and championed by the hard rock cognoscenti (supporters included Motley Crue and Ozzy Osbourne) this Los Angeles based quintet made all the right noises to further enhance their career by packing both melody and muscle into their music. Recording a string of highly successful albums the band peaked with this, their third album, unleashing a beast of significant fire power and songs that would stand not only the test of time but would also improve with age. Produced by Brit legend Andy Johns (Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Humble Pie, Cinderella) the album exudes Class-A hard rock all the way. One of the all time great yet largely overlooked albums of the 80's LA scene. Rock Candy. 2006.

I Love Autograph...but this was not their shining moment.......2007-04-13
when it comes to 80s metal,I'm not just a casual fan,I'm a fanatic...if it's got hair and rocks I'm gonna love it
Autograph summed up everything I loved about hair metal, right up there with Poison,Tuff,Pretty Boy Floyd,Enuff Z Nuff and of course Bon Jovi...these are bands that could play their instruments but also write darn good songs
the debut release of Autograph 'Sign In Please' was perfection...the follow up 'That's The Stuff' didn't quite live up to it but I didn't lose faith and I bought 'Loud And Clear'
I will not say that it's awful cause it's not...there are some amazing songs....like 'Loud And Clear' 'Dance All Night' 'She Never Looked That Good For Me' 'She's A Tease' and 'Just Got Back From HEaven' are all amazing songs...worthy of including in the debut...but the rest of the album feels a little off balance, the production is great, the performances are great too,it's just the majority of the songs are not quite as catchy as they could have been, and it's a shame, the classic 80s sound is here in full glory....if you love Def Leppard,or Night Ranger, or even Bon Jovi or Whitesnake, I truly think you would love this band
and if you are already a fan and wondering if you should buy this CD,I would definitely say YES
there are more then enough great songs to make it worth owning
the upside - She's A Tease is classic,so is 'She Never Looked That Good For Me' it has all you could ask for from a great 80s rock band, great vocals, great solos, great production and lots of hair!
the downside - a lot of the songs are not quite as catchy as their debut or the 'Missing Pieces' collection...some seem to drag a bit but luckily the great songs are spaced evenly throughout
the bottom line - a very worth addition to any true 80s rock fan...don't hesitate to buy this, especially at this price...bands just don't sound like this anymore so let's support the ones who still do and have that awesome 80s sound...donutman says so!!!

Nice effort but..........2004-07-18
I bought this one blindly when it came out. I was really hoping to hear something that resembled the first album but was quickly disappointed to hardly hear any keyboards. The first side was just straight ahead boring guitar rock. Dance all was okay, but just didn't grab my attention. Teaser and Just got back from heaven are the best songs, the later I thought was the best. If you find this album get it, it's rare and does have some good songs. Maybe I'm being to rough, it would be hard to top Sign in Please. As with That's the stuff, get it but just don't take out a loan to get it.
Loud and Clear rocked like crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2003-09-03
This is a forgotten but great album!!!! If more people would have heard this, it would have been a big hit!!!! It is great!
As Good As The First!.......2003-05-04
I spent a long time finding this CD. I had it on tape and by accident found it in a bargin bin in 1990. I loved it and played it until it went no more. I do not know if I am alone but it is one of those rare CDS that should have sold more but got caught up in the shuffle of alternative madness of the early 90's. Only a couple of thousand sold in the original release.
It starts out with the Title(Loud) and with Steve Lynch's heavy riffs, does not look back. This is a song that you miss alot of great playing unless you hear it on CD. Dance All Night is on the vibe of Turn Up The Radio and "She Never Looked That Good" Finishes it off.
I could go in great detail of each song on this CD but I only have 1000 words. I have owned 3 copies of this (the last is a cd and will not wear out) and I am still not tired of listening to it.
I wish this band was still together. I know they have re-released alot of their stuff and I picked it up (on-line) Including Steve's solo LP.
If you are a FAN, you will love it. If you only heard Sign Up Please, then you need to listen more. You will like this as much.
Peace Out. And in the words of Forest "That's All I Have To Say About That!"
Broken, but still good. Yeah. still good........2003-04-13
This is a good disc, but some songs on here just seem like filler. For example, the title track "Loud And Clear" is all right but sort of sounds like someone threw together three chords, told singer Steve Plunkett (who can do much better vocally and lyrically) to scream a lot and said "That's good enough for those long hairs who buy these records". The second song "Dance All Night" is fun, but not exactly Dream Theater as it makes you want to do as it says and "dance all night" "She Never Looked That Good For Me" is a fun poppy rocker that has Plunkett musing on his former girl and her personality change. "Bad Boy" is fun but kind of cheesy and shows its age muscially. "Everytime I Dream" is a awesome and heartbreaking power ballad that seems to speak of unrequited love. "She's A Tease" puts me in mind of "My Girlfriend's Boyfriend Isn't Me" from "Sign In Please" and is slightly cheesy as it talks about a woman who is only after Plunkett's wallet and won't give him what he wants (i.e. sex). "Just Got Back From Heaven" is a keyboard-driven rocker in the musical vein of "Cloud 10" from "Sign In Please" but slightly more Bon Jovi-like in its style. "Down N' Dirty" is a sexy "raise-your-fist-and-yell" rocker in its style, attitude and chorus. "More Than A Million Times" is a fun keyboard-driven Dokken-style pop rocker about Plunkett's inability to forget an ex-lover. "When The Sun Goes Down" is another Dokken-style rocker that unlike "More Than A Million Times" doesn't hold up and just seems kind of contrived.
All in all, a good album. Not "Sign In Please" but almost as good!

The one true performance of the Requiem.......2004-10-27
I already had a couple of performances of Mozart's REQUIEM, but something about the packaging made me pick this up. I was not disappointed, for the performance of Christoph Spering with his ensembles Das Neue Orchestra and Chorus Musicus Koeln is one of the very best renditions of the piece. Furthermore, as a welcome bonus this disc also treats us to one of the few recordings of Mozart's autograph fragments free of Sussmayer's addition.
What is immediately noticeable is that Spering takes the opening "Requiem aeternam" and "Kyrie" very slowly indeed. In the notes he explains that his attentive reading of the score has led him to believe that these two should be half as fast as the final "Lux aeterna". This is a controversial decision, but I believe that Spering has made the right choice. After hearing Spering's masterful command, other performances seem deliriously too fast and any sense of sanctity is lost. This is a performance you will forever see as the "right one" over others.
A fine addition to the Requiem itself is the recording of Mozart's original autograph fragments. They show that Sussmayer's additions were entirely reasonable and in keeping with Mozart's intentions, and vindicate him from oft villifying.
The musicians of Das Neue Orchester play superbly on period instruments, and the Chorus Musicus Koeln give a flawless performance. The fine musicianship is highlighted by excellent recording, especially in the heavily choral movements like the "Kyrie" where it really explores the space. This performance of the REQUIEM is one of the finest discs in my collection, and I would highly recommend it to all who enjoy Mozart's final work.
A Very Good Recording.......2002-08-06
Das Neue Orchester plays exceptionally clear as usual. The choir never sings too heavy as in other Historically Informed recordings, nor do they sing unnecessarily superfluous. The soloists are also very good.
While for these reasons this record is worth 5 stars, I'll have to give it 4 stars for Christoph Spering's judgement of tempo of the faster movements, which he attempts to explain in the liner notes. Most listeners will find the slower Introitus just fine, however the the Kyrie fugue is taken much too slow despite Mozart's marking the tempo at Allegro Assai. Quite a contrast from the Dies Irae, which is startlingly played at lightning speed (definitely the fastest Dies Irae I've ever heard). It's true that here Mr. Spering drives his orchestra and choir a little too hard. The Rex Tremendae is likewise fast. The Confutatis is played in the moderate tempo we're used to hearing. The Sanctus (not Mozart's work) which is usually played slowly is played irritatingly fast. The Cum Sanctis (being a direct parody of the Kyrie) is taken at the usual pace of Allegro Assai. Why would Spering play the Kyrie so slow and the Cum Sanctis relatively quickly?
The slower numbers (Tuba Mirum, Recordare, Lacrimosa, Hostias, Benedictus and Agnus Dei) are actually played in just perfect tempo, not to mention these are the some of the finest interpretations of those particular numbers I've heard. His interpretation of these numbers is actually moving.
This disc is well worth the buy for the inclusion of Mozart's autograph fragments of the Requiem. As we all know, the requiem was incomplete after Mozart death and completed by his student Franz Xavier Suessmayr and two other students, Freystadler and Eybler. In the light of popluar, newer completions of the requiem by Maunder and Levin, who often attack Sussmayr for his handling of the requiem, you'll see in this recording that the autograph fragments do not sound all to different from Sussmayr's completion, and that Mozart left the basic parts of the requiem which could easily stand by themselves. Mozart only wrote out the 4-voice choir and the basso continuo. Other instruments are inducated in the fragments but their actual intonations are sparse. The product will remind the listener of a Bach motet, minimal in scoring (often 4 unnacompanied voices over a basso continuo) yet still technically complex and complete in sound. It's also interesting to hear the Lacrimosa break of after the eighth bar as in the original fragments (you all know the ledgend of Mozart's last night, and how he supposedly passed on at the 8th bar of the Lacrimosa as his students practiced the piece with him at his bedside).
The fast movements of this disc are not Christoph Spering's forte, but the slow movements are mesmerizing and well worth 4 stars. The inclusion of the Autograph Fragments also make this disc reccomendable.
Amazing contrast.......2002-07-02
I had never heard the 9 autograph fragments of the Requiem before. They are amazing, crystal clear, even joyful. This recording is worth having, both versions (Sussmayr's and Mozart's autograph) are superb.

Extremely Underrated Band From The 80s.......2007-04-13
It's become a fashion to make fun of 80s metal but you know what? there were some pretty darn good bands that came from that period, case in point right here Autograph...these guys were not just great musicians but they wrote some extremely catchy songs, the crime is that they never got the push they deserved from their record label, had they got the same kind of exposure say 'Duran Duran' had or 'Bruce Springsteen' etc.. these guys could have been huge
this is a collection of 'outtakes' from their past...the sad part of this story is most of these songs are better then the ones that appeared on their official releases
'All Night Long' starts off the album,it's catchy in your face 80s rock...to picture this band imagine a harder edged Night Ranger or a bit more melodic Def Leppard
in fact the highlight of the album 'I've Got You' sounds just like Def Leppard in their prime, this song should have been a number 1 smash hit single but it never saw the light of day 'till now
some other stand out tracks are 'Heartattack' 'ANGEL in black' and 'Love Comes Easy'
it also includes the demo version of 'Turn Up The Radio' their only smash hit (which is a crime) and another couple great songs from here are 'Sweet Temptation' and 'Angela'
Like I said, these songs are ALL very worthy of being in any rock fan's collection and are better then most of what they released on their official releases...they are very similar to Def Leppard,Night Ranger, even at some points Whitesnake...if you like those bands at all check this CD out
the upside - 'I've Got You' 'Angel In Black' and the songwriting and production in general..it is a truly great CD
the downside - it's a shame these tunes weren't on their past releases, they might have sold better had the record label actually cared
enough to promote them
the bottom line - a great CD for any fan of 80s rock and great songwriting in general...if you like Def Leppard,Night Ranger etc..and remember the great song 'Turn Up The Radio' then check this out, you'll be very surprised and glad you did...they rock...donutman says so!!!
Unreleased material, but still rocks!!.......2002-03-16
If you are a fan of Autograph or any of the glam metal bands of the eighties, then this is a must have album. Several of the tracks are presented in their raw studio demo format and lack the slick 80's production sound we all know and love. However, most of the songs on this CD really smoke and one wonders what the final album would have sounded like. "When I'm Gone", "Love Comes Easy", and the demo version of "Angel in Black" are particular standouts!!! You also get to hear the original, unreleased, alternate lyrics version of "Turn Up the Radio". It sounds strange, but it grows on you!!
Nice rarities/unreleased collection but missing something.......2000-09-02
This is a collection of Autograph demos/b-sides/rarities/unreleased tracks. All of the unreleased tracks are of high quality and could have fit well on the studio albums. The demo of "Turn up the radio" in particular is nice and kind of gives you an idea of what some Def Leppard music would sound like without all the studio polish, in the essence that Autograph has been said to be similar to Def Leppard. Although, I must say the version of Turn up the radio from the "Sign in please" cd is still my favorite, sometimes a bit of studio polish is a good thing. As has been said before, this album is a bit of wasted potential which is why i give it the four star rating instead of five. I would have liked to see at least one live tune, I would have liked to see the band reunite for just one song that was written during the making of this cd (around 1997), even if it was with a new lineup. Everything in this cd is from the past and some 10 years old or so at least. Finally, it is a real pain in the ass that they didn't include "Winning is everything" from the Young Blood movie soundtrack and the Fright Night song as it could have saved alot of people from hunting down those cd's just for those two songs, I only have the tape of Youngblood and it is showing it's age. Basically, this would have been the perfect outlet to get some really cool and rare stuff on here, what is one here though is very well done though so despite my bitching, the album is worth the money for a fan of Autograph or similar rock music. If you are new to the band, check out 'Sign in please' first, though..........
great 80's sound-not new material, just songs never released.......1999-04-29
Steve Plunkett released these songs that were raw versions of songs that didn't make any of their three rca cds. Typical rockin' Autograph material, good guitars. If you were into what Autograph did in their cd releases then you'll love this one, it adds to your Autograph collection nicely. Although I think the raw version of Turn up the Radio is kind of weak or sub par recording, all of the other trax rock in Autograph style. Sure do wish he put the two soundtrack songs on it "You can't hide from the beast inside of you"- from the Fright Night movie Soundtrack, and a great rocker "winning"- from the Youngblood Movie Soundtrack, but he didn't and you'll have to own these two cds to have the full Autograph collection. And for anyone wanting an excellent hard rock/metal cd get - Victory-"Voiceprint" it is just plain great and these guys still rock with the metal sound of the 80's and early 90's, believe me if you like Dokken, Ratt, Warrant from the 80's early 90's you will love this!
Definately a keeper.......1998-12-20
I was really suprised that they put out a new cd. Steve and the rest of the guys did a great job on this release. I think if I had to pick a favorite it would be track 4, I've got you. It's an 80's glam band power ballad. Other notable tracks are #5, One-way dead-end street and the raw demo version of angle in black and turn up the radio are very good as well. I hope you all enjoy this recording as much as i do. good bye

A Fun Time Machine Back To The Awesome 80s.......2007-04-13
In the mid 80s if you had a pulse you were quite familiar with the monster hit 'Turn Up The Radio' this song defined all that was great about a decade (along with Loverboy and Poison but that's another story)
the entire debut Autograph album was perfection from start to finish...so how do you follow up perfection without it seeming like a let down, well,it's really hard but they tried
this release 'That's The Stuff' is not nearly as bad as most people will lead you to believe, sure it's not as good as 'Sign In Please' but compared to other bands from this time, this CD rocks!
the title cut is filled with the same happy smiling in your face rock and roll as the debut album
and take no prisoners has the echo kind of backing vocals that made Dokken and Ratt famous...Blonde's In Black Cars was the hit off this one,it's actually quite good, sure it didn't go as far as 'Turn Up The Radio' but that kind of song is really once in a lifetime, let's not be too hard on these guys...'You'll Get Over It' is a beautiful love song (mid tempo, not really a ballad) Crazy World is fun,Night Ranger kind of fun...We're An American Band...this sounds almost exactly like the Poison version done over a decade later,I like it but I know I'm in the minority...I think the stand out track on this album is 'Changing Hands' a beautiful ballad that should have been released as a single, sounds very much like Def Leppard from the Hysteria period...Hammerhead shows that the guitar player can really rock (it's instrumental), Built For Speed and Paint This Town are the only ones that aren't quite up to the rest....they aren't bad they just aren't quite as good...think filler from Night Ranger
this band was sadly underrated and this album is actually very good if you give it a chance....if you like Def Lepppard,Van Halen,Night Ranger or any other band that sounds happy while still rocking, then check 'em out
the upside - changing hands, that's the stuff, blondes in black cars, you'll get over it
the downside - the ending 2 songs kind of lose steam, and hey, where is the song 'Six String Fever' from the original release,no mention as to why that's left out? Come on guys, you could have included one more song on a CD (I have the cassette version too and I'm glad, the song is quite good)
the bottom line - definitely worth having at a reasonable price...I wouldn't pay more then 20 buck for it...but it's a piece of 80s music that will live forever...donutman says so!!!
A career-killing album from a once-great band!!!.......2005-04-18
Ohmigod! This is the worst letdown album I've ever heard. I REALLY REALLY liked their first album ("Sign In Please" - see my review) which was a classic album with big big hits for me on it! So I thought I'd give this one a listen.
WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!! I hated it from the first song to the last! I guess, like a previous reviewer has pointed out, this was a rushed album, and Boy Howdy, it sure sounds like it! The title track is lame-o pseudo-rock, and I despise their remake of "We're An American Band" (it was a bad song choice for GFR, and is much worse here). I got really sick of Steve Plunkett's voice because he never changed tone or pitch. Kudos though to guitarist Steve Lynch. He tried hard to be fresh, but he fought a losing battle with this one.
I tried really hard to find a good song on this album, because I hoped something - anything would redeem it for me. But NOTHING clicked. All fans of 80's heavy rock should avoid this album and just buy their first album.
That's The Stuff Is The Stuff!!!.......2005-02-17
I have known about Autograph since they first started playing the clubs and the first recordings. They are what 80's music was all about, and still are what music should be. It's fun, energetic, and gets you going. There's not a single tune from these guys I don't like and recommend any CD they have, turn it on and turn it up!!
Plunkett is right.......2004-07-18
Plunkett is indeed right. The album was rushed and it sounds like it. The first track has no hook to it, just him repeating the title over and over. Hammerhead is good, but it's no Eruption at all. Get over it is good, but Steve is right, it could've used some polish. Blondes In Black Cars just simply was not what I was expecting when the new Autograph came out. I saw the video and decided NOT to buy it, I think your first single should entice you to buy. I didn't purchase it until it came out on re-issue. It is a good listen, will bring you back to the 80's no doubt. Add this to your metal cheese collection, just don't pay alot for
