Earning a Grammy nomination for every album released isn't too shabby a track record. That's why it shouldn't surprise most that Big Tent Revival's fourth recording, Choose Life, is another giant leap forward for this quintet with the Midas touch. The album deftly captures the group's deepening maturity in both spirituality and songwriting abilities. You can't help but get caught up in the feel-good, bouncy flow of rockers like "Livin' Off Your Love" and "Fill Me with Your Spirit," each a likely radio hit. Yet the group can change pacing, as with the title track, a yearnful, poignant ballad, and the softly melodic "This Is the Word of God." The release ends on a wild, rowdy note with the Christmas rave-up "That's What I Want for Christmas." Indeed, there is an air of sophistication, a comfort zone if you will, that BTR appears to have reached on Choose Life. It's safe to say this is the band's finest hour. --Michael Lyttle

Choose Life and Word of God really minister to me on this CD. Try it, you just might like it. BTR has a great mix of soaring guitar licks and heavy percussion. Like a cross between classic rock and southern rock.
Excellent band w/a goal to glorify Christ.......2000-10-12
I first heard BTR at Edison International Field during Harvest Cursade 2000. Their music was so uplifting people were moved to tears. To be able to witness people fill up with this uncontrolled joy was awesome to me. They had become one of my favorite christian bands and I suggest you give them a try.

Alright, so maybe BTR decided to try a more subtle approach. Whatever they did, they sure did it well! Some people are upset because they did not quite carry along the rocky beat they had given themselves the reputation for. Oh well, I still loved Choose Life, and highly recomend it and all their prviouse albums! (e.g. Big Tent Revival, Amplifier) Go for it!

I had never heard of this group, and didn't really listen to much Christian music. however, while on a church ski retreat, i received this cd. I popped it in my cd player, and have been in love with it ever since. i identify with the line "i've been to the ledge so many times i know the pigeons by name" in the song Live for you, and i get choked up when i hear a part of Father Please Forgive them. This is definitely a cd to buy.

a sincere bunch of guys........1999-04-19
April 19, 1999....From Kenosha, Wi. You put soooo much feeling in your music. This tape is a real good one. I first heard you guys on Praise T.V. I believe one of the 1st. videos i seen was "If Loving God Was A Crime". I have to tell you that while my father was dying, I was leaving the hospital and the song "I'm Letting Go" was playing and I just knew it was for my Dad. Oh, how i cried. He was suffering so and he wanted God to take him home. This will always be his song. God bless you all.

BTR has a good mix in this one.....lots of music videos, and over a good sound. I wish they had just a bit more kickin' rock, but the lyrics make up for that. try it--you'll like it!!

They have a good vocal sound that blends well with the instruments. Their lyrics are biblically sound and Christ centered.

Powerful.......2005-03-03
This album is one of my favorite in the Popular Christian Music Genre. I had never even heard of this band before they showed up on the "WWJD" Album put together by various artists. Like some of the other reviewers I only bought this for "WWJD" and have been pleasantly pleased with the album as a whole. I love "Wouldn't it Be Cool" and "Star in the Book of Life." This is not like a lot of albums with only one or two hits and a bunch of filler tracks this album is enjoyable from start to finish.
Jesus is alive and kicking!.......2001-05-18
When I first listened to BTR, I was kind of dissapointed, there weren't nearly enough of Jesus in the songs, but now I realize that there is a deeper meaning in the lyrics as well as in the music. GOD IS EVERYWHERE IN THIS CD!! I can feel the connection to the almighty spirit. It's like god is decending from the blue skies just to be present with me and we fight all evil spirits of the world together!

This is an excelent CD. BTR really shows how they can Rock and Roll for the LORD! This is better than their first one. They rock more on this one. Before I bought it, I didn't know who they were. Then, they came to this confrence and I liked their style. When I first bought it, I only got it for "WWJD" and "Star In The Book Of Life". After one spin, I liked the whole thing. I like anything that worships the LORD but the songs that stuck out were, "Still Breathing", "God Made Heaven", "Jimmy", "Star In The Book Of Life", "Wouldn't It Be Cool", "WWJD", "Real Thing", "West Memphis Lawyer", and "Come On People". I liked the Thank You segment. They were funny in that.
The Real Thing-Big Tent Revival.......1999-06-12
This was a definite change for the better. The band's third album showed a lot more edge and musical improvement. The lyrics of the CD were equally deft and memorable. This rock oriented CD demonstrates the band's growth and willingness to explore their music.Everything from the blues to ballads was explored. The after-credit tracks rock!!! Emphasizing a real walk with Christ the album does not disappoint.I especially liked the credits on Track 11, this is not a CD for a lazy day,but more like a fast drive down a hot Texas highway!!!
The absolute best CD from BTR, ever!.......1999-05-12
This CD is an absolute masterpiece. Steve Wiggins and Co. have done an outstanding job on this project, and it shows. With songs like "Still Breathing," "WWJD," and "Star in the Book of Life," BTR rocks! But the best thing about this CD is the bonus tracks from 12 through 15. These are the songs that will blow you away! Definitely a must-have!

A fun rock/blues album.......2003-02-24
The music: The most famous track on this CD is without a doubt #3, Two Sets of Jones'. This is one of BTR's few songs that actually made radio time, at least in my area. While there are many other fine songs on this disk, most notably Thief In The Night and Faith Of A Little Seed, none of them really stand out. One of my personal favorites is Ballad Of Arlis Richards, a song about a crosstie walker who lived among the blacks with a guitar on his back singing about Jesus. All of the tracks, even the skimpy Message From The King, are marked by the BTR's signature rolling blues/rock sound.
The booklet: Actually, it's not a booklet but instead a square folded in four. However, all the lyrics are listed, even if not very readably.
The artists: I saw these guys in concert once in 1999 at the Eastern Maine Teen Convention in Bangor, Maine. While they were a small enough band that the Convention could actually get them to come, they put on a very good performance. They were open and personable on stage, had some cool guitars, and remained cheerful even when showered by handfuls of quarters and bottles of water thrown by an exuberant crowd. After that impressive show I promptly purchased their CD, and while they have since broken up and gone their separate ways, this self-titled album remains a good example of their rolling rock and high energy.
In summary: Not deep, but not shallow either. A good middle of the road rock/blues effort by some dedicated little guys.
Bought it for one song and love all 11.......2000-02-09
As someone who listens to a variety of music, I hadn't heard much of Big Tent Revival's music prior to buying this CD. I've been a fan of "Two Sets of Jonses" so I decided to take the plunge and buy the entire CD for only one song. I've never been more pleasantly surprised. The songs offer a nice beat and tune, perfect when I'm driving home from work and don't want hard rock, but want something more than classical music. I highly recommend this for those who enjoy getting a good message from Christian music but don't necessarily enjoy tradational gospel music.

Awesomely talented young band. Delivers the Christian message through great music. Not too heavy -- not too light! (If you grew up in the folk rock era you'll love it and your kids will love it too!)

If loving God was a crime is my favorite BTR song, but this disc is full of them. Choose life, What would Jesus do, and Star in the book of life are also very good. If you have not listened to BTR then this is a great place to start. But if you have listened to them then get this one also. Full of the good stuff!!

Listen More Than Once.......2004-03-12
On my first listen, I was not impressed and thought it sounded like a band that was speeding through a live performance in an effort to just fulfill a contractual obligation with their record label. After listening again, I heard passion and live nuances that went unnoticed the first time.
This album is equal to their best studio work (Open All Night). Highly recommended. It gets better with every play.
How about a reunion? Wiggins lyrical depth is unmatched.

I've been a fan of Big Tent Revival since their first album, and this one is excellent. The live performance really brings out some of the blues sound that they have in concert, and the energy and enthusiasm is refreshing after the mellow "Choose Life" album. An excellent release from an outstanding band!
Under the Big Tent.......2001-06-10
Big Tent Revival has consistently been one of the hardest-working bands around, and their live shows reflect a seasoned choreography of agendas--there's no front-running or posturing, just straight-up rock 'n roll. Steve Wiggins' voice is not the greatest on wax, but he's perfect in the workmanlike context that BTR seems to always project. The songs here, as on every live collection, will be familar to fans, and even if you're not a fan, there's some hefty brand equity in track No. 4, W.W.J.D. This is a good listen for long-term fans of faith-based rock, and a suitable intro for newcomers to the genre as well.
