Customer Reviews:
Fantastic CD.......2006-11-10
This CD is beautiful and extremely anointed. You will find yourself praying for Isreal while at worship in the secret place. I have purchased several as gifts. Highly recommend it.
Devotional Masterpiece.......2006-09-14
This is the first Messianic music I have heard and it is most moving and evocative. The introduction is an instrumental medley of Jerusalem of Gold followed by Ma Tovu and then a spoken passage from scripture. Next is Blessed Are You with its alternating English and Hebrew sections. The biblical passage about giving God no rest until Jerusalem is at peace introduces Let The Weight Of Your Glory Fall, a stirring call for the Majesty to be revealed. The next one, For Your Name Is Holy, is a tender and heartfelt prayer of praise and gratitude.
A highlight of the album is the breathtaking Baruch Haba B'Shem Adonai (Blessed Is He Who Comes In The Name Of The Lord), a real tour de force. Starting in a slow and solemn way with Wilbur's voice framed by beautiful female vocals, it builds in intensity to become a powerful and rousing anthem. Then the vocals fade for an awesome instrumentally dominant section until the voices again regain prominence. The effect is quite atmospheric and transcendent.
Seamlessly this blends into Ma Tovu (O How Good), another uplifting hymn with both Hebrew and English lyrics. The live track In Your Presence is a most comforting call for grace and protection by the blood of the Lamb. This one also builds in momentum to become a triumphant anthem of praise, and concludes on a tender and soulful note.
The title track is a spoken prayer for Messiah to return to the holy city and heal the world; it is followed by Shalom Jerusalem, a tuneful praise song with impressive vocal arrangement. Wilbur introduces Kadosh (Holy) with a spoken passage from the Book of Revelation. Once again, the lyrics blend English and Hebrew over an impressive arrangement with lovely female vocals. Show Me Your Face is a yearning hymn about Moses, David and Messiah.
The way that creation is crying out for the return of the King is described with stirring biblical imagery in the song Even So, and the album concludes with a plea to Messiah to take up His throne in the individual heart and on earth, in a sweeping climax with resounding trumpets.
The CD booklet includes all the lyrics, a brief article on the history and future of Jerusalem in light of the scriptures and the full text of Psalm 122 which includes the lines "pray for the peace of Jerusalem, may they prosper who love you." For those who love the devotional music of our Judeo-Christian tradition, I also recommend The Sacred Names by Anjani Thomas, Sar Shalom by Karen Davis and Holy Harmony: Healing Code Tuning Forks and Ancient YHSWH Chant by Jonathan Goldman.
In these troubled times words are often inadequate, therefore one needs sacred music to comfort and lift up the spirit.

The best in the series!.......2007-05-23
Recorded shortly before Mr. Scott took up his new (and equally prestigious) post at St Thomas Church, Fifth Ave., NYC, this disc is, in my opinion, the best in the whole English Anthem series. The program is remarkably varied, and includes a stunning rendition of Sheppard's "Libera Nos I". It is so stunning that I can't help wishing that more Renaissance music had been included in this series. The choir of St Paul's sings it so well! Also recorded on this disc is a brand new commission from Rutter, "A Crown of Glory", which is brilliantly spectacular. Mr. Scott is also featured as a composer here, and his truly beautiful "Behold, O God our Defender", which is very "Howells-esque". The Bairstow anthem, "Lord, I call upon thee", is highly atmospheric. HIGHLY atmospheric. At the words "as the incense in Thy sight", one almost smells the incense!
The singing on this CD is what makes it so uniquely magnificent. I have never heard the choir of St Paul's sound in such good voice. Their expression, tone, and accuracy has never been better. They have once again reaffirmed that they indeed are the "King of Cathedral Choirs".
This recording virtually defines the term "must-have"!

Customer Reviews:
One of the best in the series.......2000-05-17
Out of all the discs in the "English Anthem" series I have thus far discovered, this volume is definitely the best. The programme is a beautiful mix of styles and features composers both well-known and relatively obscure. I bought it for track three: "They that go down to the sea in ships" by Herbert Sumsion, which at the time of writing I am preparing to sing with the Choir of Selby Abbey. It is a lovely anthem with some outstanding harmonic language and a remarkably economic use of musical material. Other masterpieces on this disc include William Walton's early work "A Litany" ("Drop, drop slow tears"), Thomas Attwood's simple and beguiling "Turn thy face from my sins," John Rutter's brief but telling setting of "God be in my head" and the extremely demanding "Give me the wings of faith" by Kenneth Leighton. Each demands its own special sound world and approach, but the choir tackles this problem head on and the result is a uniform and accessible quality in each work, regardless of its style. This disc almost cries out to be added to the collection. Well done to Hyperion, the St. Paul's Cathedral Choir, Huw Williams (who provides some marvellous organ accompaniments) and of course to John Scott.

Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.......2006-09-25
This album of Messianic music is most moving and evocative. The introduction consists of an instrumental medley of Jerusalem of Gold followed by Ma Tovu and then a spoken passage from scripture. Blessed Are You with its alternating English and Hebrew sections follows. The biblical passage about giving God no rest until Jerusalem is at peace introduces Let The Weight Of Your Glory Fall, a stirring call for the Majesty to be revealed. The next one, For Your Name Is Holy, is a tender and heartfelt prayer of praise and gratitude.
The breathtaking Baruch Haba B'Shem Adonai (Blessed Is He Who Comes In The Name Of The Lord), is a powerful evocation of the divine. Starting in a slow and solemn way with Wilbur's voice framed by beautiful female vocals, it builds in intensity to become a powerful and rousing petition. Near the end there is an awesome instrumentally dominant sequence with dream-like vocals in the backgound. The effect is quite atmospheric and emotionally stirring.

Into The Holiest Of Holy's!.......2005-08-30
I have been worshipping the Lord along with all types and artists of worship for 18 years and still- worship led by Paul Wilbur enters me in to the throne and presence of God more than any other.Everything about his music is excellent. His opera- trained voice is unsurmounted in anointing, performance and versatility. In this recording, his love for the Lord and God's chosen is apparent and inspiring.
Anointed Music.......2004-09-24
I cannot even describe the beauty of this music. It is rare to find worship music as anointed of the Holy Ghost as this. I fell asleep with my TV on and awoke to Paul Wilbur singing "Let the Weight of Your Glory Fall". I was weeping in my sleep, worshipping the Lord as I listened to this and was under the power of God as I awoke. This is how profoundly it affected my spirit. Even while reading the words to this song I was immediately called to worship. Only 2 other worship songs have affected me that way when I had to pull over my car or drop to my knees in my kitchen to worship.
If you want to draw close to the Lord, powerful worship music such as this will usher you into His presence. Be blessed!!
The most anointed music I have heard in a long, long time........2003-01-08
There are not enough words in my vocabulary to express what a truly blessed and wonderful work this is. This is by far the most anointed music I have heard in a long time. After listening to this I have a deeper appreciation of the scripture that talks about how the L-RD inhabits the praises of Israel.
During the song Kadosh (Holy), close your eyes and tell me you can't invision the throne of G-d, the angels, elders and sainted ones round about. I felt as if I were literally in the Holy of Holies.
Simply and incredible CD.
