5 out of 5 stars Everyone should own this CD.......2000-06-13

This CD is a must have for your collection. Every single is uplifting and full of praise and reverence to our most High God. Some will make you dance....others will make you drop to your knees, throw your hands up and worship Him. It's truly annointed. The first time I heard it I was hooked and have been playing it ever since (especially #12). Any born again believer will agree that this album is all you need for your own private praise and worship. If you only buy one CD....buy this one. I'm even buying more copies to give to friends.

5 out of 5 stars Buy One Tape from this Series and You'll Be Hooked!.......1999-10-20

I discovered one earlier installment from this series last year and have been hooked ever since! I proudly own all six installments: 1) Praise In the House, 2) Worship in the House, 3) Shout in the House, 4) Word in the House, 5) Glory in the House, and now 6) Revival in the House. The good folks at my neighborhood Christian bookstore know to set aside my copies as soon as they arrive.

My review is an endorsement of the entire "...In The House" series, as they are all equally empowering, uplifting, jazzy, hip while offering (consisently) reverence to our Lord Jesus Christ.

I absolutely LOVE this presentation of Urban Praise music and recommend (and even buy extra copies--no dubbing!) to all my friends.

Until the next installment, Kimberly Stansell, author Bootstrapper's Success Secrets: 151 Tactics for Building Your Business on a Shoestring Budget (Career Press)

5 out of 5 stars on a scale of one to ten, this a true ten!.......1999-10-17

If you like good praise music that ministers to your spirit, and uplifts you, then this is the cd to do it!!

4 out of 5 stars Fred does it again!!.......1999-10-02

Fred Hammond, Motor City Mass Choir, and Face to Face Productions has done it again! The latest installment from the "House" series of Urban Praise features the clear and melodic voices of MCM and the same spirit and energy of praise leaders that have made these offerings such a success. In this CD, the choir relives a true "revival," with an updated beat. The message in the songs revives, energizes, and invokes a true spirit of worship. You MUST add this to your "house" collection, or get it to start off your collection, and Jam for Jesus!

1 out of 5 stars ...maybe if you like crap.......2005-11-21

wow, what a terrible aweful steaming pile of crap. if you want to slow down the bad brains and take away any raw energy that made you like them, then go for it. a collection of bands that are more ruining the original than paying tribute to the band's work. if you don't like the bad brains, but like the crappy bands doing these ruinations, then hurry and buy this gem.

3 out of 5 stars hardcore heaven.......1999-12-09

i don't even like hardcore but i had to get this album just because of the number of "stars" on it. the vod song is awesome. moby pulls off something special with the drum loop filled "sailin on" and snapcase rock as usualy. i have to say the cave in song, with it's haunting melodies and 8 minutes worth of guitar effects and distortion was a pleasant surprise as well. the rest of the album is pretty much bad brain songs at their hardcore best. hardcore fans need to get this album as soon as possible.

5 out of 5 stars A great tribute full of great bands........1999-09-10

This is a great CD. It is great from the first track by Moby(someone I didn't expect to see on a Bad Brains tribute) all the way to the last track by Cave-In. If you are a Cave-In fan you have to get this CD for their version of "I Luv I Jah." Let me just say that it is not what I expected but I love every second of it. Other standouts are the songs by Will Haven, Shai Hulu'd, and Snapcase.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A Lot of Jive.......2005-08-25

This is an excellent collection of blues tunes done with classic renditions. The pace is slow & easy with blues that makes you shake your head back & forth an inch at 4 a.m. when you feel low & the bottle's hitting fumes. John Lee Hooker smokes on "The Right Time," "Come on, baby, Hold my hand tight as you can, squeeze me & tell me I'm the one you love." Dinah Washington recorded "Blues for a Day" in 1945. It sounds great with this 1997 release and Washington packing each phrase with feeling, "Don't drift too far, daddy, Stick around so that you'll be near. You don't need to go out, daddy cause I got everything you need right here." The track has some luscious sax dripping wet with emotion. Blues guitarist Pee Wee Crayton cut the smoking instrumental "Blues After Dark" that sizzles with his dreamy guitar in 1948. Pinetop Perkins' recorded "After Hours" for the Blind Pig label in 1988 with his piano crying soulfully. Big Maybelle recorded "You'll Never Know" in 1954 for the OKeh label and aches convincingly. Saxman Jimmy Coe with James Palmer on an insurgent piano does his party talk over the 1953 recording of "After Hours Joint." Memphis Slim's "Mother Earth" from 1950 touted death as the great equalizer, "Don't care how great you are, don't care how much you're worth, when it all ends up you got to go back to Mother Earth." Big Joe Turner cut "Nobody In Mind" in 1947, "Give a chick a dollar, next time you got to give her 5; See the chicks ain't out for nothin', boy, but a lot of jive." This is an excellent blues collection! Enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars Perhaps more evocative than compelling . . ........2003-11-16

. . . but what else should we expect from music composed specifically for movie soundtracts?

A not inapt comparison might be the soundtracts Ry Cooder has composed and performed. Always entirely suited to the particular films they're written for, they nevertheless fall somewhat short of his best playing and writing.

The same is true of this disc. Mark Ribot is always worth a listen, even when the music he's making isn't essential, as it isn't here. Still, there are lots of interesting and a few even unique soundscapes. My favorites are "Prowler," with its haunting sequencer percussion and synth effects, "Urbanight," featuring Frank London's ethereal trumpet and cool percussion from E. J. Rodriguez, "The Beast in the Jungle," with some very evocative sampled sounds buoying Anthony Coleman's scary piano, "The Killing Zone," graced by the uncanny sounds of Ned Rothenberg's shakuhachi, "Requiem for Eitan," defined by the mesmerizing violin of Mark Feldman, "The Persistence of Memory," with grunge guitar, an unrelenting backbeat, and sinister flute/sax stylings, and "Lost Children," a deceptively simple tune demonstrating Ribot's very effective use of sampled sounds in concert with electric and classical guitar treatments.

Not surprisingly, these are mostly the longer tracts, providing enough space for sufficient melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic statement and development. As one might expect, the shorter pieces are almost pure evocation--often quite interesting and certainly atmospheric, but seldom completely satisfying.

Not essential, but certainly worth a listen. 4 and 1/2 stars.

        Album Description

The road less traveled usually begins in familiar territory. Only after some time spent wending along, do the recognizable signposts become few and far between. The subtle contours of a new landscape begin to show themselves. The locals aren't as easily identified. Welcome to Mars Arizona.

Mars Arizona's All Over the Road is a place where the culture and spirit of a southern gospel revival meet up in the Devil's house out on Highway 61. The affair elicits short stories of heartache, oppression, loss, recovery, joy and renewal.

The album was recorded at HillTop Cabin Studios in Mill Valley and Prairie Sun Recording in Cotati, CA, with special guests drummer Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp, Bob Dylan, Smashing Pumpkins, Willie Nelson, John Fogerty), Emory Joseph (dobro, mandolin and backing vocals), David Grissman's Bluegrass Experience fiddle player Chad Manning, B3 Organist Larry Steelman and Bass player Michael Bruninga.
