Josh Groban in Concert has all the ingredients to be a long-running PBS staple: a young (21), good-looking performer with a golden voice; songs in Italian and Spanish for the crossover crowd (i.e., Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman) and pop and movie songs for the mainstream; guest stars galore (David Foster, John Williams, Angie Stone, Andrea Corr, Lili Haydn); a large orchestra; and striking but not obtrusive visual effects. The centerpiece of this DVD-CD combo (also available in a DVD keepcase) is the 80-minute concert DVD, filmed in Pasadena in October 2002 and featuring numerous songs from Groban's debut CD, including "You're Still You," which catapulted him into stardom when he sang it on TV's Ally McBeal. There are also two new songs--the ballad "Broken Vow," with Groban accompanied by Foster, and "For Always," with the orchestra conducted by John Williams, who wrote the song for the Steven Spielberg film A.I..

The 37-minute CD offers seven songs performed in the concert (including the two not on the previous CD, "Broken Vow" and "For Always"), plus "O Holy Night." The DVD has excellent picture and sound (PCM stereo, Dolby Digital 5.1, and DTS), interviews, and backstage footage, and the combination with the CD is an excellent value. Groban's fans, of course, will consider it a treasure at any price. --David Horiuchi

In case you couldn't go to the concert . . . buy this CD/DVD set. This is a good overall product. The DVD is seamlessly pieced together from three concerts. The concerts were awesome due to the lights, musicians, song introductions, and of course - Josh's voice, presence, and energy.

5 out of 5 stars Young Josh .......2007-04-12

This cd and dvd collection is valuable to anyone collecting Josh Groban music. The dvd is nicely done and gives a little insight into his family (parents and younger brother) with the special features. Nice, clean, family entertainment which is such a rarity nowadays. This young man's voice is exceptional - God has truly blessed him with such a voice, and to see him perform is a gift as well. My family truly enjoyed this bonus.

I ordered this concert DVD/CD for my Mom who is a new fan of Josh Grobin's and she loved both the concert footage and the songs on the DVD.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic concert....Josh Grobin is outstanding!.......2007-02-22

I have been a Josh Grobin fan since I heard "You Lift Me Up", and I have not been dissapointed with his CD's ever since. I was excited when I got this DVD and it definitely did not dissapoint. He chooses his songs wisely and each song in this concert is full of emotion and depth. The CD compliments the DVD well and is always a favorite. From "Broken Vow" to "Oh Holy Night" each song is sung by this master singer.

Highly Recommended!

It's no mean feat being the world's foremost crossover artist--a task that risks alienating two disparate audiences and everyone in between--but somebody had to do it, and Andrea Bocelli again walks that artistic tightrope with impressive deftness. The title may imply a casual intimacy (indeed, the singer admits to taking a more "hands-on" approach to the album's conception and production), but it's a collection that nonetheless continues to expand on the Italian tenor's ambitious internationalism. His collaboration "Sin Tu Amor" immerses his voice in the Gipsy Kings' own rich Iberian folk-pop fusion with compelling results, while "Where Love Goes" (a musical focal point of the film Lazarus Child), his English language duet with 11-year-old prodigy Holly Stell, achieves an almost liturgical grace. "Tu Ci Sei" (You Are There) continues in the romantic vein of his familiar theme "Con Te Partiro" (Time to Say Goodbye), while the single "Dell' Amore Non Si Sa" (With Love You Never Know) features Bocelli in a signature dramatic tour de force collaboration with arranger Mauro Malavasi, the accomplished producer of the singer's Romanza and Sogno albums. Bocelli's shrewd taste and vocal prowess here not only again redeem an oft-maligned genre, but elevate it considerably in the bargain. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars HOW DO YOU SAY,"WOW," IN ITALIAN?.......2007-06-22

BEFORE I START, LET ME SAY, THAT I AM A DANCE CLUB GUY AND THAT, ORDINARILY, THIS IS NOT MY KIND OF MUSIC. OF COURSE, I LAUGH AS I SAY THAT, AS, APPARENTLY, A NEW DOOR HAS OPENED IN MY LIFE, THANKS TO THIS MAN.
A FEW YEARS AGO I HAD HEARD ANDREA DO, "CON TE PARTIRO," ON A PBS SPECIAL AND MY EYES FILLED WITH TEARS THAT ANY HUMAN COULD MAKE SUCH SOUNDS. I WAS ASTOUNDED; MORE ASTOUNDING, STILL, WAS TO HEAR THIS ALBUM AND FIND THAT HIS VOICE HAD ACTUALLY VASTLY IMPOVED OVER TIME. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? " CON TE..," PALES IN COMPARISON TO THE QUALITY OF THIS WORK; THE TRACKS ON THIS CD ARE PERFECT, FULL, RICH, AND MORE MOVING THAN ANYTHING I HAVE EVER HEARD. I HAVE HAD IT A WEEK, NOW, AND I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO LISTEN TO ANYTHING ELSE FOR VERY LONG, AND I PLAY IT OVER AND OVER. IT HAS BEEN MANY YEARS SINCE I HAVE BEEN AFFECTED LIKE THIS BY ANY VOCAL CD. IF HE NEVER RECORDED AGAIN HE WOULD HAVE MADE A MARK ON THE WORLD OF AUDIO NEVER TO BE ERASED OR FORGOTTEN. WHAT A VOICE! WHAT SONGS! THE CUT, "LIBERTA," ABSOLUTELY KILLS ME WITH FEELINGS OF JOY AND MARVEL. I HAVE EVEN TAKEN UP STUDYING ITALIAN BECAUSE OF IT.
TREAT YOURSELF, AND A GOOD FRIEND, TO THE SOUNDS ON THIS CD. SIT AND WATCH A SUNSET WITH IT ON... I MEAN NOW!

5 out of 5 stars Just buy it........2007-05-30

If you like soft music that make's you feel up beat, just order a Andrea Bocelli CD. Listening to his CD's after being at work all day, is like having an option in life to hear and be somewhere else.

5 out of 5 stars Teamo, Andrea Bocelli .......2007-03-08

One of his best. Need the lyrics translated from the Italian to the English inside the casing next time. Nonetheless, Mr. Bocelli has a beautiful voice. It made my wife and all my female co-workers swoon when they listened to it.

4 out of 5 stars A new style from Andrea........2007-02-24

There were some ugly songs in here.(I absolutely hate to say that about anything Andrea.)But the good far outshone the bad.
Un Nouvo Giorno stunned me the first time I heard it.It was so unlike anything I had heard from Andrea- very pop.But it soon grew on me.
Liberta is amazing.Very catchy and upbeat.
Sempre O Mai is my favorite. It keeps its tempo up and has the best of Andrea and pop.Great song.

So this album was really a double album with pop and classical songs interspersed.A good mix from the master.

1 out of 5 stars Not happy with delivery (or non delivery) of this item.......2007-01-16

When I ordered this on 12/04/2006 they said I would have it before Christmas. Then right before Christmas the delivery date was changed to mid-January. So I had to cancel my order and go, at the last minute, buy it at a store because it was a Christmas present. I wasn't happy about it and won't be buying from amazon for the holidays any longer.

5 out of 5 stars What else can I say except... A CLASSIC!!!.......2005-10-28

Who cares about the CD reissue? The original vinyl LP release is still unmatched in terms of sonic fidelity and overall classic-ness! Okay, I guess you can play the CD in the car.

I never owned "Angie" in the past, as I was really young when it came out. But then I found a decent used vinyl copy of it at my client's record store and bought it for $3.00 for one and one reason alone: "This Time I'll Be Sweeter."

VINYL IS THE BEST, ESPECIALLY FOR JAZZ AND FUNK GENRES WHERE INSTRUMENT CRISPNESS CAN ONLY BE REPRODUCED FAITHFULLY VIA ANALOG.

5 out of 5 stars Incredible Debut.......2005-06-26

I first heard this album in high school 1978 and I was blown away. I was stunned in my tracks. I never heard a voice so angelic. The closest so far has been Chante Moore. Incredible unique voice and timbre. A lot of soul and emotion in her music. She also writes half of the songs on the album. Angela is one of greatest vocalists ever. A rare talent. I have the vinyl and CD version of this album, its too bad that the CD process takes some of the naturalness out of vocals, the vinyl sounds much better

5 out of 5 stars Her Debut and it was Stellar! .......2005-02-28

Excellent stuff!

Track 1: Under the Moon and Over the Stars" is a classic, mellow, slow-moving, tasty treat! I love the flavor of this song..!

Track 2: I challenge anyone not to feel the groove in "Baby, I need Your Love." It calls you. Before you know, you're singing and humming along with her...and its taking you back to a time that you tucked away or hadn't visited in awhile.

Track 3: "This Time I'll be Sweeter" Her poignant and heartfelt plea for a second chance. It exudes pain while asking for mercy and forgiveness!

Track 4: "Rough Times": My least favorite track on the CD. A mid-tempo groove. Enjoyable, though.

Track 5: "The Only Thing I Would Wish For": Oh man! This is my favorite song on the whole CD! She scats, she blows, she hums, she digs deep and the tune just sways you! It's funky, groovy and mired in mellow at the same time...and the flute solo! Superb!

Track 6: "Summer Days": This brings back memories of my youth, my first love and the last days of summer before going off to school! She sings so sweetly, so softly yet so melodic, about how what happened yesterday (love) is gone with the wind..and sings about summer days and moon lit nights..and how quickly it fades away! It's impossible not to get caught up in her octave wave and drift away!

Track 7: Share Your World: Quasi-mellow tune with a nice groove that you can listen to and just relax. It carries the CD further down Angie's road.

Track 8: Children of the World Unite: Angie's plea for the children of the world. I use to think the song was out of place back then, but I actually enjoy it now.

This is a solid CD! Anyone wanting to introduce themselves to the voice of an Angel, start here. You will not be sorry. All those that grew up with Angie, you already know what you're missing. Treat yourself! Revisit the glory days!

5 out of 5 stars The voice of an angel(no doubt about it!).......2003-06-11

Angela Bofill's debut album. This is still as wonderful, amazing and unforgettable as it was when originally released in 1978.A truly wonderful and timeless album which features "Under The Moon And Over The Sky" "This Time I'll Be Sweeter " and "Summer Days". If you are into good music you MUST have this album. Just one listen and you will know why Angela has an angel's voice!

5 out of 5 stars A classic jazz album.......2003-05-03

Angela Bofill's voice is a true wonder. Exotic and exhilirating, sweet and soothing, picturesque and inviting. She conjures vivid imagery with her interpretations. I discovered "Angie" about five years ago not too long after I started college. I picked up a vinyl copy, and I have been in love with Angela ever since. This beautifully packaged reissue truly does the album justice. "Under the Moon and Over the Sky" is a jazz/fusion delight; it's Afro-Cuban rhythms are intoxicating. The highs and lows Bofill hits will give you chills. It is that kind of drama that makes this record a compelling listen. Her definitive take on "This Time I'll Be Sweeter" is a joyous, moving masterpiece. He pleas of "have faith in me" are almost palpable. But in my opinion, the best track is "The Only Thing I Would Wish For." The jazzy vocal arrangement and flute work by Dave Valentin paint a real picture of what GRP was all about in its infancy. The liner notes and packaging are also great. So this CD is well worth the price... it is a moving experience.

There's been a lot of attention given to the so-called neo-soul sound, most of it focused on male artists. So how come the folks making the best records are women? One spin of ex-Vertical Hold leader Angie Stone's solo debut and it's clear you are listening to a grown-ass woman, not some kid with stars in her eyes who's dictated to by a producer or three. No, the deeply felt grooves and offhand sexiness that make Black Diamond sparkle are things that can only come when you've lived a little. Like Macy Gray's On How Life Is and N'dea Davenport's criminally ignored self-titled disc, this is the wondrous sound a woman makes when she's free to create her own music but smart enough to keep the status quo satisfied. On tracks like the smoky "Green Grass Vapors" and "Everyday," Stone, with her rich Gladys Knight-like voice and finger-popping élan, conjures up soul's past without making herself a prisoner of it. Not surprisingly for this key collaborator on D'Angelo's Brown Sugar, Stone kicks a laid-back, fluid vibe, but her clear tone and off-kilter way with a melody make you sit up and pay attention. --Amy Linden

3 out of 5 stars Black Diamond.......2006-12-06

I can't believe it took me so long to pick up a disc by Angie Stone. I always love her released singles & videos but until this year, never bought one of her solo albums. I love the statement in the Amazon review that listeners must recognize the fact that we're listening to a "grown-azz woman" who is in control of her sound & song content.

I love her soulful voice and the fact that obviously she tried to incorporate the old school '70s sound throughout the album. The tracks that I've grown to love are:

NO MORE RAIN - love the reworking of the sample

LIFE STORY - very melodic track

COULDA BEEN YOU - nice duet

BONE 2 PIC WIT U - really pretty melody throughout the track

GREEN GRASS VAPORS - makes me dance around the room (although the lyrics are a tad bit monotonous)

Overall I'd highly recommend this disc to those seeking neo-soul music sung by one of the better voices in r&b today.

5 out of 5 stars Everyday!!.......2006-04-08

I feel so ashamed that I didn't know who Angie Stone was until I saw the music video for "I Wanna Thank Ya", I loved the song so much I bought it on iTunes. Then I decided to buy her first album, Black Diamond. It's such a great album! I love every song, but especially "Everyday" and "Trouble Man". If this album is this good, Mahogany Soul must be just as good, if not better, so now I'm going to buy that album.

5 out of 5 stars A Black Diamond, No doubt!.......2005-10-10

Even though I purchased this CD recently, I know that I should've bought it earlier. Angie is very talented, and she truly has a wonderful voice. No doubt, the woman has the power of soul music.

5 out of 5 stars Good luck just like a black diamond.......2005-08-08

This album is full of soul and is a wake up call to me. Where did she come from? I love the vibe that this album carries, so sacred yet in perfect reach for the public, personalized yet generalized. I look forward to keeping my eyes peeled for all next moves of hers. Please Ms.Angie Stone, keep it coming.

Mahogany Soul perfectly describes the rich, deep, and lived-in music Angie Stone makes. This veteran singer/songwriter, who was one-third of rap trio Sequence, led acid-jazz combo Vertical Hold, and had a major hand in creating D'Angelo's Brown Sugar, follows up 1999's critically acclaimed Black Diamond with another collection of grown-up R&B that's sexy, satisfying, and smart. Along with (wo)manning the helm herself, Stone links up with like-minded visionaries. Chief among them are Raphael Saadiq, who produced the single "Brotha," which moves with a purposeful, rugged, old-soul swagger, and Andrea Martin, coproducer with Swizz Beatz on the vibrant and aching "Wish I Didn't Miss You," which features a dope "Backstabbers" loop and Stone's husky vocals. At 17 cuts, there's a bit of drag, but not enough to deter you from Stone's wise and determined ease, and on the gritty "Twenty Dollars," Stone gives all those R&B princesses something to really chew on. --Amy Linden

Still sounds good in 2007 and that is what makes a good cd. I do not like all the songs on this cd, example Bottles And Cans is a crap track but because of songs like, The Ingredients Of Love, Pissed Off, More Than a Woman, Mad Issues and 20 Dollars I just had to gave it five stars.

Again, Angie Stone remains A Rock. Music for when you're happy, sad, horny, stressed, angry, PMSin. Music for woman, man and everything in between. Angie Stone is the master of her own soulful world. The man who gave this CD to me has no idea how abolutely addicted I am to Mahogany Soul. Fabulous, just fabulous.

THIS is the BEST R&B/NEO album... definitely the best released of the year... but it's one of the best in History... Angie Stone is a REMARKABLE talent with an AMAZING voice... I do not think this album received the level of recognition it deserved. Overall, Angie Stone is one of the strongest voices in R&B/NEO soul to date. I can't pick a Favorite because they are all equally awesome... I give two big, big, big thumbs up to this album!!!!!!!!!! Just put it in, Press play! No need to skip tracks.

4 out of 5 stars it deserves 5 stars for brotha alone.......2005-08-24

god i love that song (despite what Kosmo77 says) considering its a breath of fresh air from all the black male bashing that contemparary pop/R&B artists put out .but i also love i wish i didn't miss you anymore.angie's voice is verry old school and soothing to the heart and soul.she reminds you of the lady who had the powerfull solo during the church choir.its to bad that she doesn't get much recognition as her hip-pop/R&B counterparts like you know who.eitherway this is a great cd and i hope she sticks around unlike other great artists that get snubbed, and shelved by their record labels because they don't know what to do with them.in short get this cd if you like good R&b soul music.

The producers of Mike Leigh's vibrant Topsy-Turvy took many big studio meetings seeking financing for their film. Word has it all went swimmingly until time for the pitch came--there are apparently no two words as unsettling to Hollywood film execs as "Gilbert & Sullivan." But the studio system's loss turned out to be the indie film's--and our--gain. Leigh's film brought the composers' late-19th-century mounting of their breakthrough The Mikado to an all-too-familiar life, filled with as many neuroses, foibles, and fragile egos as any modern Broadway musical. The film's score, an inviting pastiche adapted from Mikado (and other G&S staples) by veteran Carl Davis, may upset purists with its time-conscious liberties. But then, it might just win over a receptive yet unexposed new audience for whom this music may seem strangely familiar, as well it should: this is where modern musical theater began. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars Here's a How-De-Do!.......2007-02-22

It's brilliant, really! I am a self-confessed Gilbert and Sullivan fanatic, and so the release of this soundtrack to accompany a truly delightful movie provided me with an "Oh, joy! Oh, rapture!" moment ... many of them, actually! To hear some of my favorite tunes from some of my favorite G & S operetti performed so well makes my heart "sing-o" - and me, too!

5 out of 5 stars Topsy-Turvy is TOPS!!!.......2007-02-21

This is Gilbert and Sullivan like you will never hear again! These performances are so fresh and alive with comedy flourish that my formerly "purist" ears reveled in delight at this magnificeant rendition of these great operettas. It is wonderful to hear excerpts from PRINCESS IDA,IOLANTHE and SORCERER (as well as THE MIKADO) when so many recordings already exist of the other G&S chestnuts,PINAFORE and PIRATES OF PENZANCE.
The actual cd itself fills the speakers and is a true listener's dream.A great soundtrack of a great film.Wonderfully recorded by SONY.

5 out of 5 stars Superb.......2005-02-25

This is a fantastic cd, one that I have listened to many many times without growing tired of it. The particularly nice thing about this cd for lovers of the movie is that you get to hear the entire performance for many songs which are necessarily cut short in the film, most enjoyably "A Wandring Minstrel I". As has been noted in other reviews, the vocal performances are not what you will typically find in other G & S recordings: they are far less burdened with mannered belle canto nonsense, to their immense benefit. And I must disagree with one reviewer who disparaged the staging as portrayed in the film. My wife and I saw a touring production of the Mikado which used the costumes and set from the movie, and it was fantastic. Even better, the performers seemed to take some cues from the film actors too, singing and performing in a way that was much more accessible and not a bit less pleasing.

4 out of 5 stars Better than many a G&S non-sountrack.......2003-09-16

I was compelled to get this after seeing the overlong, flawed, but nonetheless all-around amazing 'Topsy Turvy'. (Seriously - almost every supporting actor in the film deserved an Oscar, and Jim Broadbent was robbed; his Gilbert is magnificent and real.)
Inspired then to hear a true G&S performance, I bought several Carte recordings. What broke my heart is that the genuine Savoy performances are not as good as those of the 'Topsy' actors! Contrary to a review here, the articulation is just dandy. And the tenor in 'Wand'ring Minstrel' alone is far, far superior to the thin, reedy, annoying versions on the several concert cds I've heard. As is the riveting soprano on the beautiful 'The Sun Whose Rays...' of 'Topsy'; again, the actual Savoy recordings are merely shrill in comparison.
I remove one star only because of the necessarily abbreviated performances here.

5 out of 5 stars Put on the CD, close your eyes and..........2003-03-02

You are back in the Savoy Theater in Victorian England, watching a Gilbert and Sullivan production of the Mikado, or Yeoman of the Guard, or the Sorcerer, or Princess Ida. The qualiity of the music is superb, the voices are wonderful and I only wish I could have videos of all the G&S productions to watch along with the music.

Buy the DVD of Topsy-Turvy if you don't already own it. It's magnificent. See my other review.

5 out of 5 stars Believe the hype!.......2006-05-21

I first heard Spaceship from Angie's the American and knew immediately that I had to have this song. When I listened to the rest of the album I was simply blown away! Why aren't these songs all over FM radio and satellite radio? I have a music collection that is second to none and this is by far my favorite album and I'll go one better and say that this is the album of the decade so far and one of the top 5 albums of all time! It's that stunning! Clever lyrics, fantastic song arrangements and production. It has rock, pop, country, alternative, ballads; as diverse an album as I've ever heard. Spaceship, Beautiful, and The American are some of the stand out songs but Wonderland is one of the great unheard songs of all time. Simply brilliant!! What a voice!!! What an album!

1 out of 5 stars Don't know what all the fuss is about - this is NOT a good CD.......2005-11-14

This guy is NOT the pop/rock Messiah that other reviewers make him out to be. This CD is top to bottom a mediocre re-hash of late-80s/early-90s ultra-liberal "Conscience Pop". Derivative of Peter Himmelman, The Call, The Samples, and Tracy Chapman, but not as good as any of them. "Wonderland" is probably the only "good" song on the CD but I liked it better when it was called "Fast Car". He has a nice enough voice but the arrangements are sub-par, the lyrics do not stand out, the melodies are plain. And the image certainly does not fit the music. From the art on the CD and on his website you'd think there'd be an edge to this guy's music, but it simply isn't here. Nothing dark, or brooding, or even thoughtful about this music. Once in a while you might hear the ripped-off sound of Counting Crows or Toad the Wet Sprocket, but I hate to even put this guy in the same sentence with two of the best Alt/Pop/Rock bands there ever were.
Don't believe the hype - this guy is not worth the money.

5 out of 5 stars Used to be James.......2005-03-10

Angie Aparo was in my high school music theory course. He cheated on a test off my paper once...I think we both got the answer wrong...so I can't claim any contribution to his success. Back then (late 70's) he was James...probably so the toughs that never got a chance to hear him sing wouldn't beat up a guy called Angie. Whether or not he knew what a Gmajaugmented5th with a flatted whatever in the whosit was irrelevent then...he'd been gigging with local bands in Fla. (from what I remember it was Fla.) and Atlanta from a young age and was already a MONSTER talent. After graduation I sort of kept up with him through mutual friends but it wasn't until I saw a review in Rolling Stone that seemed to talk more about the producer of his album than Angie's work on the album that I found out what he'd been up to. It took a while of looking at the little picture in the magazine before I made the James/Angie connection...but when I did I bought the album immediately and was glad I did. This is a great album. It kind of slipped through the cracks. Faith Hill found it. Angie can sing circles around most of them out there. This is a very produced sounding work...so for more "earthy" sounding stuff check out some of his other cds....but it is a fine album by a great artist. When I knew him way back when, I knew that he was a great performer (and funny as heck...the rock star pout, bad harmony, etc. had me rolling) so it was good to see what a fine songwriter he is. He is a performer worth discovering. And if he asks to see your music theory test, go ahead and let him. Maybe he can tell you what you did wrong.

5 out of 5 stars The best unknown artist out there. .......2004-11-09

So, a friend takes me to this show Friday night and I'm outright blown away. I went from "Angie who?" to a total fan overnight. Why isn't this guy all over the charts already? Angie Aparo is such an incredibly well rounded performer. He can work an audience better than any musician I have ever experienced.
This album represents only a fraction of Aparos' potential. Expect great things from him in the future. Spaceship is of course his best known piece but everything else on the CD is a work of art as well. SOMEONE SIGN THIS GUY TO A MAJOR LABEL.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant album.......2004-10-05

I came across this album a few years ago, and, luckily for me, I found it in my old CD case a few days ago. When I first got the disc, I nearly wore it out from listening to it countless times every day.

Now, it's even more meaningful to me. There is not a bad song on the disc, but I could never get tired of listening to "Wonderland," "Cry," and "Hush."

"The American" is a brilliant amalgim of various genres. Aparo's lyrics are some of the most poetic and meaningful of any contemporary artist, and his voice is INCREDIBLE! It is a real tragedy that there is no more of his music available to the public.

I cannot imagine a music lover that would not go crazy over this album. It takes the best parts of country (a genre that I, personally, tend to loathe), alternative, and classic rock and roll. Aparo carries such emotional weight in his music: your heart as well as your mind and ears will be caught up in the brilliance of "The American."

I am so grateful to have this album back!!!! I've always been a
"B Angie B" fan as well as a fan of Oaktown 357 and the entire MC Hammer crew. This was good 90's music that I really enjoyed and now miss. Thanks again for bringing B Angie B back!

Listen to "I Don't Wanna Lose Your Love" and know why B Angie B is a DIVA!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Thank You For Bringing This Album Back To Life.......2006-07-12

B Angie B started out as a back up singer for the Bust-It label formed by MC Hammer and his brother Louis. She sang for artists including Hammer, Oaktown's 357, Soft Touch, One Cause One Effect, Ace Juice, and then of course her own debut cd in 1991. Her music was infused with hip-hop r&b along with strong soulful vocals. Her first single to gain attention was a cover of the Emotions 70's clasic "I DON'T WANT TO LOSE YOUR LOVE" which peaked at #2 on the billboard hot 100. Her live performances drew all kinds of attention as in those days she was the pioneering rump shaker and I think people didn't really know where to put her as far as a music category. She was different then those other types of singers at the time. Very fresh, original, and just pure beautiful. Her sound would go on to influence many others such as Mary J. Blige, Mariah, and Beyonce just to name a few.

This remastered cd was done very well and sounds beautiful. The quality is excellent. This cd also includes a bonus dvd of rare B Angie B performances and three music videos including Midnite Lover, I Don't Want To Lose Your Love, and Sweet Thang.

To this day B Angie B remains one of the most underated talents of modern r&b-hiphop music.

5 out of 5 stars STONE HITS!!.......2006-03-21

I never really heard of Angie Stone before, but the other day I was watching VH1 soul, and saw I Wanna Thank Ya video and I loved it. Then I decided to buy her greatest hits album and now I love it! I am now a huge fan of Angie Stone and I plan to buy all her previous album.
My Favorites Are:
Wish I Didn't Miss You
Brotha
No More Rain (In This Cloud)
I Wasn't Kidding
I Wanna Thank Ya
Everyday
U-Haul

People should stop giving her bad reviews just because it's Copy-Protected. I had no problem getting it on my iPod.

4 out of 5 stars Enchanting and soulful.......2006-01-06

I bought this album as an introduction to Angie Stone's music. The only familiar track was the first (I Wish I Didn't Miss You) with its luscious bass line. So the rest was a new territory, one that I became increasingly delighted to discover. Stone's style indeed belongs to another era, but what a glorious era it was. How rare it is today to find a soul/r&b singer that doesn't overdo her part or compromise her sound just to be trendy. The little rapping heard on this compilation only adds flavor to a well seasoned meal.
I only wish some songs were twice as long (they don't make 12" versions today). Little Boy is a true gem.

2 out of 5 stars very average&way too soon.......2005-11-11

Angie stone is like a Songstress version of alicia Keys to me. most of Her biggest Hits sound like songs from 25-30 years ago.vocally she has some nice runs, but She is only good for a few cuts here&there. She doesn't hold my ear for a whole album though.this is way too soon&a sign that while she is a decent Songwriter that the solo Artist run just might be over.

1 out of 5 stars Another copy protection nightmare!!.......2005-11-09

Whatever happened to an artist releasing an extensive catalogue of albums before releasing a "very best" set? Stone has only THREE albums, and she hasn't been around the block long enough to come up with a greatest hits album. But what really pissed me off is that this copy-protected CD comes with a VERY malicious form of spyware call ROOTKIT which cannot be removed and makes your PC a slave to Sony. Do you want Sony spying on you to find out what you're listening to, when, and how often? Then do not, repeat-DO NOT, buy this infected CD. You'll be sorry.

5 out of 5 stars Greatest Hits from a Great artist.......2005-11-02

To the reviewer above Angie Stone doesn't only
have two greatest hits songs an album. But has three Greatest Hits Cds. Get this and add to great all day listen cd.

Angie keep oup the good work.

It's been five years since Angie Stone's debut and her third album, Stone Love, is still taking the neo-soul approach with dabbles in hip-hop, funk, and classic soul from throughout the years. The big song is "I Wanna Thank Ya," a funky, up-tempo hip-hop break that sees Stone dueting with Snoop Dogg--the production is a fresh take on the old skool sound while Stone's melody has a breezy disco-soul vibe. "Stay for a While" with Anthony Hamilton and "You Don't Love Me" are two highlights from the selection of silky smooth numbers where the warmth in Stone's voice is enhanced by the subtle arrangements. There are some poppier moments in "My Man" and "Lover's Ghetto" where the sound is influenced by the decadence of 80s soul, best summed up as a hybrid of Luther Vandross and Chaka Khan.

Stone Love is another great album for both soul lovers and people who like their pop with a bit of soul in it. There is very little filler and above all, with Angie Stone's experiments in all things urban, it never gets repetitive or boring. --Georgina Collins

1 out of 5 stars Love the Album; Hate the Strigent Tactics..........2007-04-07

I purchased this CD for personal use only which includes adding the tracks to my MP3 Player...In actuality I was the one who got played because of the strigent tactics to prohibit piracy I can't enjoy the music on the go as I had planned. Lesson learned; blessing earned: I will purchase no more "copy-protected" music. I nor other music lovers should be punished for the greed of others...What is our crime but the love of music?

5 out of 5 stars Phenomenal Artist.......2007-01-04

Angie Stone has a quality about her. I love her music. I am looking forward to more releases from her.

3 out of 5 stars It's too bad..........2006-05-07

I like Angie Stone's music not just because it's got that classic old-school/soul sound, but also because the groove of her music suits her singing style. She's a gifted singer with an amazing voice. This album once again displays her talent and is a nice follow-up to Mahogany Soul, if perhaps a teeny bit more commercial with all the guests she brings in -- which isn't a complaint, but I suspect the guests were brought to give this album a broader appeal. And they often yield great results. But while the guest appearances by Floetry on "My Man" and Anthony Hamilton on "Stay for Awhile" were brilliant, I was less impressed with Snoop on "I Wanna Thank Ya." I liked the rap-free version better -- I don't think Snoop was really needed, and maybe could've been used better elsewhere. Other standout tracks include "U-Haul," "Lover's Ghetto," "You Don't Love Me" and "Karma."

Overall, it's another stellar performance by Stone which musically deserves 4 stars, but I'm only giving 3 because of the Content Protection. I don't believe in piracy but if I buy the CD, I feel I should be able to copy it to my iPod. Nor should I have to shell out $35 just so I can buy the Japanese import that isn't Content Protected. So my advice: this is an excellent album and worthy of your collection, particularly if you're a fan of that classic '70s soul sound. But if you listen to most of your music on an iPod (as opposed to a CD player), you may want to consider purchasing the entire album in an mp3 format.

1 out of 5 stars STOP COPY PROTECTION.......2006-04-25

the US release of Angie Stone's "Stone Love" is ruined by Copy protection. Soem cds say "Content protected". When a cd is labeled as "Content protection", usually it includes SunnComm MediaMax Version 5 content protection software that may expose security vulnerability when played on PCs and usually you can make small amounts of copies to cd-r's and I-pods or other digital music players. but this is "copy protected". I can't even transfer it onto cassette. And from my understanding, every international release of this album except Japan, also is copy protected. I know that the music industry is trying to cut down on Piracy but I feel that once you purchase a cd, it's yours and you should be able to do whatever you want with it. I don't think it was fair that I had to buy this twice : once on cd form and the other on I Tunes. I am against music piracy but I'm also against copy protecting cds. I hate that I can't transfer this cd onto my i pod

3 out of 5 stars SHE'S ALWAYS ON THE CUSP..........2005-12-07

Angie has been in the game for about 2 decades now and she just can't seem to make that breakout leap, ya know? But it's all good. This one is nice though. Not her best effort but a solid one. Nothing really jumps out at you sans the lead single.
Typical Angie-esque. Bonus is that Anthony Hamilton appears, so that makes it all good.
