A few years ago, it would have been impossible to imagine the members of Blink 182 occupied with anything that didn't involve poop jokes and pixilated private parts. Now Tom DeLonge is channeling early U2 with Angels and Airwaves while former bandmates Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker have reunited as +44, another numerical band named after the international calling code for the United Kingdom. The twitchy punk rhythms, adolescent accented vocals, and blockbuster choruses of their former outfit remain, as does producer Jerry Finn, but songs like "Baby Come On" and the spooky "Little Death" show the musicians finally delivering the substance that was promised on Blink 182's self-titled 2003 release. "A little death makes life more meaningful," Hoppus sings on that latter. --Aidin Vaziri

Disappointing.......2007-06-30
I would rather give this a 3 1/2, but since that isn't possible, I'll have to settle with this. Let me just start off saying: like most of you who have listened to this album, I am a huge blink-182 fan. They helped me through so much, and I hated when they broke up. Now they have split up in the forms of Angels & Airwaves (Tom Delonge) and +44 (Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker). I was pumped about both of these bands coming out with albums and so picked up a copy of each album the day it came out. Let me just tell you this: although +44 do sound closer to Blink, Angels and Airwaves are far superior. +44 just doesn't meet my expectations. Travis Barker does a good job as always, but that's the main plus in musicianship on this album. Mark talked up these lyrics as amazing, but I was disappointed the majority of the time. Don't get me wrong, there are some goods songs:
1. Lycanthrope - (2/5) - Just not very good in any aspect. It doesn't flow very well. It doesn't sound very good. The lyrics are weak. Not a good opener.
2. Baby Come On - (2/5) - This song made me mad because I wanted this album to be really good, but this was the second song in a row that wasn't very good. Lyrics are not very good at all. The verses are decent, but the chorus is what stops this from getting a 3 star. Chorus doesn't sound very good. A little better than "Lycanthrope" though.
3. When Your Heart Stops Beating - (4/5) - This is when I started to get a little happier about this album. I had heard this song before, and I enjoyed it. Not very good lyrics again, but catchy and fun to listen to. This is when it starts to get good.
4. Little Death - (5/5) - Just when disappointment was starting to sink in, I was hit with the previous song and then this one. This is a very good song. Finally, his lyrics are actually pretty good. I knew he had it in him! Great job on this one all around.
5. 155 - (5/5) - Maybe my favorite track on the album. This one is really good. Good lyrics, great, catchy music, and good vocals. This one is a real winner. I was passing the first two songs off as flukes by this point.
6. Lillian - (4/5) - Not as good as the last two, but still a solid song. This is a good one. Good lyrics, good balance of louder and softer, actually conveys the emotion. Again, good job on this one. That's 4 good ones in a row!
7. Cliff Diving - (1/5) - And then they ruined that streak. I tried really hard to find something I liked about this song, but I couldn't. Lacking in lyrics and anything desirable. Could they rebound from this one?
8. Interlude - (3/5) - It's okay as far as interludes go, but really, what can you expect from an interlude? It's alright. Nothing I can complain about.
9. Weatherman - (4/5) - They certainly could rebound. This song is very good. Very raw lyrics. They were probably the best lyrics on the album. Very honest and thought provoking. In my case, very relatable. This was well done. The chorus is very good.
10. No It Isn't - (5/5) - I know some of my friends don't like this one, but I love it. This is the competition for the best song on the album in my opinion. It just sounds really good, and the lyrics are good if you put them in context (it's about blink's dissolution). My only complaint is that both this album and Angels and Airwaves' album had at least one song dedicated to blink falling apart (+44 had more than one). This is the much more immature one when you compare the two bands' perspectives.
11. Make You Smile - (5/5) - It actually has the girl singing in it! This was before she left the band, and she did a magnificent job. This is a great song. Lyrics are not amazing, but work well enough.
12. Chapter 13 - (2/5) - Not a good one to end it on. They should've just done without this one. I thought it was gonna be cool because it's about Dante Alighieri's views on suicide as he put in "The Divine Comedy". Just not very good. Reminded me of the first two songs.
I think Tom Delonge and AVA win Round 1. That album is fantastic, although it is much different from blink-182. Here's the key difference: Tom grew up; Mark didn't all too much. Tom sums up Mark's response to blink's breakup well in one of his songs: "I left the chill and voice of screams and kids and ran for shelter." It's true, because it says how Mark and Travis were basically screaming kids in how they handled it. I hate to put them down, but it is true. They just need to grow up a little more. As I said, there are some really good songs on here, but just not as many as AVA. Also, not quite as good as I thought it would be. A little disappointing. Thanks for reading!
I love this album.......2007-06-30
I love every second of this album. This record has songs that are very diverse and they are all really catchy. I love +44 and cannot wait till they come out with some new material. Don't miss out on this.
Not Blink 182 but the next best thing.......2007-06-15
Plus 44 contains Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker, but you probably already knew that. Let's not forget the talented guitarists though. Shane Gallagher and Craig Fairbaugh are pretty good and are pretty cool people too. They don't add to the band like Tom did with Blink, but they still are pretty cool. The cd is overall good with many memorable tracks. Little Death, Baby Come On, When Your Heart Stops Beating, Make You Smile and No It Isn't are the highlights of the CD and are the golden tracks.
1)Lycanthrope(3/5)- Sound is always too loud, everytime it comes on it hurts my ears and I have to turn the volume down. It overall sounds good but just isn't as good as the rest and doesn't have anything unique about it
2)Baby Come On(4/5)- One of the better tracks, reminds me of Stay Together for The Kids. The most memorable line "The past is only the future with the lights on" is in this song. Great lyrics.
3)When You Heart Stops Beating(5/5)- In my opinion, the best song on the track, however it is one where it can grow old on you rather fastly. On a side note it is sided up with a freaking awesome video
4)Little Death(5/5)- Simply amazing, competing with When Your Heart Stops Beating. The lyrics are great and the bridge parts are amazing(Mark and I believe Craig sing together in a really low baritone voice)
5)155(4/5)- This is a catchy song that sounds great. Nothing special in lyrics, just nice sounding
6)Lillian(3/5)- Kind of a slower song, the lyrics are pretty good but it just doesn't stand out above the best.
7)Cliffdiving(4/5)- Sounds a bit like Lycanthrope. The guitar work is pretty cool and during the chorus there is a cool bass riff. Pretty good song but not near the best
8)Interlude(2/5)- This is obviously the weakest track on the cd, not that it brings the cd down. There isn't much too it. Sounds cool and electronic, but still little to it, but it's just an interlude.
9)Weatherman(3/5)- Decent. You'll like when listening to the CD as a whole but it won't be a song you end up listening to by itself.
10)No, It Isn't(5/5)- Simply amazing! Along with WHYSB and Little Death this the top song on the CD. This is great one and I love it. lyrics are great, discusses the feelings of Mark on Tom Delonge with the great line "Please understand, this isn't just goodbye, this Is I can't stand you." Showing Mark hates tom, but then again, the song is called No, It Isn't.
11)Make Me Smile(5/5)- Top notch. I normally never find girls singing that great but Carol Heller delivers quite well. Hearing Mark sing along with an actually talented female singer is something you'll never hear. The lyrics are good too. Great song. One of the better. I'm sure this will be one of their more popular songs.
12)Chapter 13(2.5/5)- Just an overal bad ending. It's not a bad song. It's just weak compared to the wide variety of extremely good songs. This is an enjoyable song, but you'll probably never listen to it by itself, just when listening to the whole Cd
Overall this is amazing CD. Mark is a great singer all though it's so sad to hear his voice without a line thrown in with Tom. Mark sounds a lot different then he did back in the What's My Age Again and Adam Song days. His singing actually isn't as good as it was on stellar tracks like Feeling This and Adams Song, but still great.
Stunk.......2007-05-15
Just bland. I sold it 2 days after getting it. I miss old school Blink 182.
+44 travis barker is back!.......2007-05-08
i basically, bought this simply because i'm seeing them at the honda civic tour in a week, but it turns out that this is a splendid cd! travis barker is super cool so i'm really excited about him being back in a band again. blink-182 was magnificent, but +44 goes a different way with their sound. it's still really good though. check them out!

Very good.......2007-01-26
I agree with the last review on all points except if you like blink-182's 'untitled' album that you should pick this up. It's got some completely different songs that non-blink fans will love. "Make You Smile" is a perfect example of that.
Spot on (Better than the AVA album).......2007-01-03
+44's debut feels like Mark and Travis are picking up where Blink 182 left off... except not.
It's got the trademark punk-rock/pop-punk stylings that Blink had, but there are electronic undertones and to be honest... catchier songs than Blink 182's last release.
For someone like me who enjoys a range of music (metal, punk rock, pop, electronica, ska...) this is a great up-tempo album with some good upbeat tracks.
Songs like 'When Your Heart Stops Beating', 'Lycanthrope' and 'No It Isn't' stand out most on the first listen. Some songs don't make as much of an impression at first, but they'll grow on you with time!
This is a great debut from Mark and Travis's new project and I'm sure they'll do very well with their next album.
Overall, this is a brilliant feel-good, upbeat cd that's got quite a few tracks that would sound great blasting from a car whilst speeding down a motorway. If you liked Blink 182's last release, you should definatley get this!!

One of my all-time favorites........2001-07-17
This album is truly stunning. There's a variety of musical styles here, all of which showcase Daryl's enormous talent. His distinctly West Coast gospel sound is in full force on this collection of songs, including "Real," "In Times Like These," and the super-strong "It Shall Be Done."
Daryl always chooses superb material, but his selection is in especially good taste this time around. V. Michael McKay's composition "Integrity" does not disappoint. As usual, his background singers and band are simply flawless, and the recording quality of this session is truly amazing -- it sounds brand new!
This album was recorded in 1992. It wouldn't be until 1998 that Daryl released an album that was so CONSISTENTLY good (Live in Oakland). Purchase this CD, and prepare to be blessed in a rich way.

Album Description
UK pressing of the 2006 debut album from this band featuring two former members of blink-182 includes two bonus tracks: Acoustic Versions of 'Baby Come On' and Weatherman'. Former blink-182 co-founders Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker have reunited under the aegis of a new band and this is their much anticipated album. The album is produced by Hoppus and Barker and executive produced by long-time blink-182 producer Jerry Finn. Recruited for their new journey as +44 are Shane Gallagher (The Nervous Return) and Craig Fairbaugh (Transplants, The Forgotten, Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards) joining singer-bassist Hoppus and drummer-keyboardist Barker and picking up where the popular, multi-platinum-selling band blink-182 left off after splitting in late 2004. Polydor.

Customer Reviews:
A++ for Plus-44.......2007-01-25
First things first...DO NOT compare +44 with Angels & Airwaves. DO NOT listen to either album hoping that it will sound like Blink 182. There may be "pockets" of similar rifts and tempos that may remind you of Mark, Tom, & Travis' former band but, in the end, each album is unique and stands up on it's own two feet.
With that being said, let's get down to my review of +44. For me, this was one of those albums that the more I listened to it, the more it rewarded me. Being a HUGE Travis Barker fan, my first spin through the album was soley to listen to his amazing talent. He cranks out phenomenal bang-on-your-steering-wheel beats. His transition between the slower, soft beats to the harder, edgier ones are seamless. My second time through I was more focused on Mark. Although he may not be the best vocalist in the world, he makes up for it with his lyrics. Some of them catchy, many of them moving. I'm very tempted to say that this CD could be a "break up" album for someone. Alot of the lyrics are pretty powerful and moving as sung on such ballads as "Lillian", "Weatherman", and "No it Isn't".
I think that's what impressed me the most about this album: The variety of songs that are performed. They didn't try to come out and rip hard rock on every song. They incorporated the piano beautifully between, and sometimes with, the guitar riffs on such tracks as "Little Death", "Make You Smile", and my personal favorite: "Weatherman". Even the song "Make You Smile" (which features the vocals of Carol Heller) doesn't seem like it belongs on the album but, it ends up fitting in perfectly with the tone of the rest of the CD.
What +44 has done on this album is not groundbreaking by any means. All it is is just great musicians playing great music. Isn't that all we really want?
Spot on (Better than the AVA album).......2007-01-03
+44's debut feels like Mark and Travis are picking up where Blink 182 left off... except not.
It's got the trademark punk-rock/pop-punk stylings that Blink had, but there are electronic undertones and to be honest... catchier songs than Blink 182's last release.

This is a very well done album..........2006-12-23
I've been waiting at the edge of my seat for this album to arrive, listening to all the "Hi My Name Is Mark" podcasts, and finding all the songs you can get sneek listens to. But now I don't have to do that since the album is FINALLY HERE!!!
It all starts out with the great opening song, "Lycanthrope", which was the perfect song to open the album. Then their first single and title track, "When Your Heart Stops Beating", comes to play one song later. This song is also very good, it's not one of the best, but is still well done.
Another one of my favorite songs is, "Weatherman", and it is this album's "Adam's Song". Also there's "No It Isn't", and this song is an obvious blow at Mark and Travis' former blink-182 band member, and friend, Tom. That is possibly the MOST heart-wrenching song on this album. It convey's the betrayal that Mark and Travis felt when Tom went behind their back's, beautifully.
In short, the album is good. Good? It's great! And I would go further to say that it is better than Angels & Airwaves, because the style of blink-182 is still intact here, except with more of Mark's emotion and Travis' awesome, creative percussion.
I strongly recommend this album to anyone that enjoyed blink-182, or just enjoys good music.
