Smokey Robinson and the Miracles' 25-cut disc is the single most impressive one of Motown's Ultimate Collection series (which features 17 artists). Combining Smokey's endlessly inventive twists on romance (good and bad) with the Miracles' handful of straight-up party hits, it showcases one of American pop's most sure-footed and touching acts. The frontman's prowess as singer, writer, and producer lights up each of these single mixes; less-celebrated tracks like "My Girl Has Gone," "(You Can) Depend on Me," and "The Love I Saw in You Was Just a Mirage" stand as tall as the many oldies-radio staples featured here. (For much more, including "Mirage's" unstoppable flip side, "Come Spy with Me," check out the four-disc 35th Anniversary box set.) Robinson and his collaborators, both in and out of the group, regularly injected undeniable emotion into their creamy constructions, making for a stack of tracks that remain as relevant as the contemporary creations of fans Lennon-McCartney and Bob Dylan. --Rickey Wright

Ours Is An Age Of Miracles.......2007-01-08
So you find a 10-spot on the street. Whatever will you do with it? Bribe a Congressman? Take it to your local greasy spoon for a hearty bowl of squirrel surprise, and a slice of the meringue pie you've been eyeing for months as it circled in its rotating glass case? Maybe skip down to the spirits store and pick up a bottle of Chateau Wallaby, ignoring the warning label which clearly states, "Caution: Consuming this product may cause nausea, dizziness, and an intense desire to burst into tears."
Or, you could buy this CD. (Highly recommended).
No R&B/soul collection would be complete without Smokey represented, and this exceptional Best Of anthology represents him admirably. At 25 cuts deep, it is virtually exploding with content, replete with must-have classics and unfamiliar gems. Like Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder, Robinson's voice evokes a visceral, emotional response. It has, of course, an ethereal beauty that sounds more suited to heaven than earth. The precision of the back-up harmonies and arrangements makes for an effect that is uniformly appealing, and genuine. This music is never overtly clever or self-conscious - it is masterfully crafted and sincere.
The generation doomed to endure hip-hop and rap would do well to take this CD out for a test drive, if only to discover that there was once music both pleasing to the ear and nourishing to the soul. Smokey spoke to women in a language that made them melt, a language men strained to learn and understand. Put on "I'll Try Something New." In 2:36, Robinson evokes the sentiments of romantic love in a way that is nothing short of transcendent.
Very good recording and music.......2007-01-05
What can I say: It is Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. Who can say anything bad about this?
Wonderful.......2006-11-10
It really brought back memories of watching Smokey Robinson and the Miracles back in the day.
Love Smokey more than his tenure with the Miracles.......2006-08-25
The first time we listened to this alblum we were a bit dissapointed. I guess we are Smokey fans. We love his voice.
The earlier songs on the alblum came from his days with the Miracles. It was good for us , but not great. The second half of the alblum highlighted Smokey and we really enjoyed it. Hey 25 songs for this price. Who can complain.
"Bill" is The Man I Knew-Smokey Robinson, R&B at it's Best.......2006-08-22
The old timers like me back in the inner cities where Smokey and the Miracles orginally put their stake down in Motown and R&B royalty, used to call him Bill Smokey Robinson. Whenever I meet someone who recalls the days back in the early to mid sixties when the black transistor made in Japan radios were blaring down the New York City school hallways playing The Tracks of my Tears, Shop Around, OOO Baby Baby (which brings back memories of my first interacial slow dance in the Junior High School gym) and the Tears of a Clown, all selections being on The Ultimate Collection~Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, I know that my buddy remembers Smokey's spindly aura on the stage and his silky smoooth and relaxed delivery. I apologize to my readers for run on sentences but Smokey requires such detailed explanation as a legendary contributor to soul, R&B and the Motown wall of sound (they had one too) that my effusive and continuing acclamation of this cherished and enormously loved performer is understated. I heard that Smokey recently brought his performance to Flint, Michigan or maybe some other backyard town in auto country. I really wish that I could have been there to see Smokey put out before a hometown crowd. That must have been nothing short of a miracle. I am going to hit the click button now myself, I need to hear again the sounds that captivated all of us when we walked down the hallways in Junior High with the made in Japans, fingerpopping all the way. Please note, I meant to push 5 stars on this CD and cannot figure out how to correct the above. I apoligize for any misunderstanding however everybody who has ever been touched by Smokey's music probably realized this faux pas.

This new version of the Fiddler on the Roof soundtrack coincides with the movie's 30th anniversary (which is also celebrated by a special edition DVD). The CD is notable for several instrumental tracks by John Williams, as well as for "Any Day Now," a previously unreleased song performed by Perchik/Paul Michael Glaser (better known for his starring role in TV's Starsky and Hutch). The soundtrack is often compared unfavorably with the original 1964 cast album, in which Zero Mostel played the part of Tevye (here performed by Topol, who had been in the 1967 London production). But this CD has a lot going for it, including glossy remastering and, of course, Isaac Stern as the fiddler. In the end, whatever version you decide to pick up, Fiddler remains one of the most enduring musicals of all time. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Topol is best as the Papa.......2007-07-15
I have other versions of CDs of "The Fiddler of the Roof" but Topol is the best and this is one of the best CDs with Topol. As far as "The Fiddler On the Roof" goes, that is a thumbs up 5 star anytime story and songs.
Love it.......2007-05-16
I had looked everywhere for this CD. I am so happy to have found the "real" Fiddler on the Roof!
CP as Grandmother Tzeitel.......2007-03-30
At first, I thought this musical was weird but then I grew to like it. It has a sad ending but the thems in the movie are really interesting. Life really is like being a fiddler on the roof. In a musical coming up at my school, I am playign the part of Grandmother Tzeitel in Tevye's dream. I am excited to play the part and I think our musical will go very well!
Never Ending Joy!.......2006-11-22
The music from Fiddler on the Roof is exciting, fun, interesting and funny! This CD is mixed with humor, music from different cultures and a wide mix of different songs. Each song is so different that I can listen to it for hours. I was surprised how enjoyable and pleasent it really is. Although...it is easy to get this music stuck in your head!

Based on Nicholas Sparks' novel, director Nick Cassavetes film spins the bittersweet tale of a 60-year romance, as seen from the polar perspectives of its promising youth and the travails of an old age cursed by Alzheimer's. Its soundtrack effectively echoes those polar dramatic concerns, with composer Aaron Zigler's gentle orchestral score largely giving voice to the character's melancholy present, while a rich, well-chosen slate of vintage material by Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller imparts a restless energy to their youth. There's a certain schmaltz to much of Zigman's work here, yet cues like "House Blues/The Porch Dance.." and "Noah's Journey" argue he's achieved something more elusive than mere melodramatic wallpaper with the deceivingly difficult task at hand; it can't be easy to have your work seasoned with the likes of Ellington's sassy "Alabamy Home" and Goodman's still-vibrant "One O'Clock Jump." Sharply contrasting versions of "I'll Be Seeing You" by Holiday and Jimmy Durante bookend the soundtrack, perfectly evoking the story's alternating shades of hope and fading nostalgia and framing Zigman's understated work in the bargain. --Jerry McCulley
Album Description
Based on the best selling novel by Nicholas Sparks ("A Walk To Remember", "Message In A Bottle"), "The Notebook" is the story of Noah and Allie, teenage lovers torn apart by WWII and Allie's parents' demands to marry a respectable lawyer. After 14 years apart, they meet again and rekindle their true love. Starring Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, James Garner, and Gena Rowlands. The soundtrack is a propelling force. In addition to classic WWII era pieces, Aaron Zigman's score suites enhance the record with beautifully dramatic themes. Score performed by the Hollywood Studio Symphony.

Touching.......2007-07-04
There isn't much I can say about this beautiful movie, except that it was so touching!
It say's go for the "true love", settle for nothing else no matter what may be in store, because love that is "true" and as beautiful as their's was, is a rare thing!
I absolutely loved the ending.
I also loved that a movie CAN be truly wonderful, beautiful and touching WITHOUT grafic "sex scenes!" Also sadly a rare thing in movies today.
Ever seen "Hanover Street?" Equally beautiful. No SEX scenes either!

Pays music a complement. I love the classical pieces!.......2007-05-27
I do not have the soundtrack to The Notebook, but I do have the movie itself. Having said that, every song is wonderful. Some music carries with it, a wealth of emotion and a sense of timelessness. I love all of the classical pieces , perhaps the best, in this particular movie. Classical has never been my speed when it comes down to music, but something about this movie's classical masterpieces struck a chord in me...made me smile and maybe even sniffle a bit. If you are a fan of the movie, I'm sure you would love its soundtrack too. Music like this is ideal for a romantic evening or just for pleasure listening. You don't know if you'll like something until you give it a chance! So give this a chance!!
the Notebook soundtrack (Audio CD).......2007-05-13
This is a beautiful collection of music from the movie, The Notebook. Most is instrumental, very relaxing, as well as lively at times. Two renditions of "I'll Be Seeing You" are included.
Very Nice.......2007-03-30
I really enjoyed listening to the soundtrack, but I'm also a big fan of background music and this cd was great for both. Listening to the cd took me back to the movie and reminded me how much I enjoyed it, but I also put the cd on during a nice meal with friends and it worked out very well, they all enjoyed the music.
A sweeping, emotional standout!.......2007-01-11
The music from The Notebook brings you right back to the film, capturing your heart and soul. It's music will roll live waves through your soul and bring you from nostalgia to your own feelings of love and desire. The selections, arrangements and orchestrations are to be admired, and Mr. Zigman is to be praised. This soundtrack truly completes the legacy of "The Notebook".

Spectacular.......2006-07-13
This music is simply breathtaking. Just especially beautiful. I have both this version, the two-CD complete version, and the English. The two-CD set (I think 52 tracks) is the best. This is second best. The music in this abridged CD is not presented in chronological order, however, and sometimes, due to this and the missing tracks, there is something lacking. However, it's just gorgeous music.
The acoustics are amazing. I'm not sure if this is really noticeable unless you hear it immediately before or after the English version. The cast is absolutely amazing. There is so much emotion in their voices.
I'm surprised there is so little about Richard Cocciante, the composer. This music is some of the best I've heard. I would have thought there was an abundance of music written by Richard Cocciante that I haven't heard. From what I can find out online, there isn't. This is just a masterpiece.
There are many reviewers who mention the translation issue. If you think of this as a popular musical, I can see that the translation may be an issue. However, think of it as an opera-- which it also is (not in the classical sense). We don't concern ourselves with the translation of La Traviata, La Boheme. Same with this. . . just enjoy the music.
If you can possibly find the 2 CD complete set (sometimes available for download elsewhere, find it before purchasing this. But, if you can't find it, get this. Also, as a side note. . . the DVD has the entire libretto included and offers English subtitles.
i would give this musical more stars if i could.......2006-05-07
i am so in love with this musical. it was the first french musical i'd ever seen. my french teacher showed it to the whole class after we had translated every single song into english. the hard work definitely paid off. the musical was amazing. i immediately fell in love and became obsessed. i couldn't stop listening to the CD. i love garou and bruno pelletier. they're both very talented, along with everyone else in the musical.
i really want to buy the two-disc CD, but i can't find it. does anyone know where i can buy it?
I would. . ........2006-01-26
. . . highly recommend this album. the songs are beautiful and the singers seem to carry over the emotions that the characters feel to the listener. AWESOME!
A journey with Esmeralda.......2006-01-19
When I first saw the perfomance of Notre Dame de Paris by original francophone troupe of singers for the first time, right away I fell in love with the music of Riccardo Cocciante and the gorgeous voices of the singers.
Being lucky to be able to understand the lyrics, I was pleasantly surprised by the awesome lyrics of Luc Plamondon, even if the lyrics are not necessary to understand the mood and the emotions that the songs transmit, knowing the words helps you to completely immerse into the play and feel the same emotions that the play characters, to live the story yourself.
With "Bohemienne" we see a clear picture of a young gypsy girl wandering in the mountains and valleys of Andalusia, playful and free, a little sad because she lives only for the present, every tomorrow is a new mystery, a new journey.
"Belle" depicts a stunning young woman, with sensual moves and penetrating eyes, dancing on the square while all the men are ready to do anything to be with her.
"Tu va me detruire" demonstrates the unconrolled desire of the priest towards Esmeralda, the man who dedicated all his life to sience and religion who now is ready to surpass all his beliefs, descend to hell only if she would be his. While he is discovering his dark side, Esmeralda falls in love with a beau captaine, Phoebus, who is betraying his fiancée with her.
Meanwhile his fiancée Fleur de Lys is reflecting on how to get her loved one back : in "La monture" she makes plan of vegeance to Esmeralda, she is calling her a witch, the hatred and jelousy are overtaking her while she says to Phoebus "I will come back to you only if Esmeralda will be executed ".
As the story ends the spectator/listener is taken over by
the desperation of innocent and proud Esmeralda before being executed, the depth and the eternity of Quasimodo's feelings.
I really love all the singers and ever since I have Notre Dame de Paris I don't miss an album by any of the singers from the musical. I have discovered for myself such great artists as Garou, Bruno Pelletier, Patrick Fiori.
It's a must for everyone!
Notre Dame de Paris.......2005-09-25
Excellent CD if you want to listen to opera in short. However, if you are really interested, it's better to buy a 2-disc edition or a DVD to enjoy this wonderful music in full.

This sampler album of excerpts from seven other Anonymous 4 releases is a good introduction for anyone who is unacquainted with the A4's startlingly pure singing and virtually celestial blend. But if you fall under the spell of this outstanding a capella quartet, the present disc will become extraneous because you'll want to own the complete recordings from which it's drawn. If you prefer complete works to samplers, try taking the plunge with "An English Ladymass" or "On Yoolis Night." --Sarah Bryan Miller

An aural treat for lovers of vocal music.......2007-04-14
If you love vocal music these gals are fabulous! This is a best of album, which is always good as an introduction to a new artist. It gives you a taste of their various albums, so you can go ahead and pursue the ones you like. Enjoy!
Enchanting.......2007-01-10
If you enjoy music that takes you to a different time and place, you will get lost in time with this beautiful work.
If Angels Ever Recorded A CD.......2006-03-16
Four female voices have never blended together so perfectly and beautifully as do those of the 'Anonymous 4.' Their CD titled, 'Portrait' contains a selection of tracks from seven other previous CD's, kind of a "Best Of" you might say.
If angels ever came down from heaven to record a CD this is what they would sound like.
Harmonious, Celestial, Purifying and Eternal.
another exquisite performance.......2006-02-27
This amazing quartette is so talented. The Christmas cd reminds me of Christmas 50 years ago in rural England where I grew up. It contains the only rendition of The Holly and the Ivy I have heard that actually does the carol justice.
Anonymous, but in no way generic.......2001-02-04
I learned about this quartet though a review in Stereophile magazine. Although they don't publish a lot of reviews, I've had exceptionally good luck with their past picks and have been able to branch out successfully in new musical directions as a result.
These four women are virtuoso female vocalists, hauntingly pure of voice. They perform music from centuries ago in the same type of setting that it was originally performed in, with stunning results. I'm generally not one for "religious" material (this is the first recording of this nature I've ever bought), but this music goes so far back in time that it sounds more primal than Christian overall.
A refreshing change when you're in the right mood, and something that can relax even you type A personalities out there (and you *know* who you are :) , I can suggest this one without reserve. You'll be adding a nice, quiet corner to your collection, and you'll probably wind up visiting it more than you ever imagined.

Great Music.......2006-12-30
I was completely taken by surprise of this CD. Even though I always appreciated his voice, he wasn't my favorite on the show. I felt as though that wasn't the right outlet for him to do his thang well. I obtained this CD a while back not really expecting music since I'm not a traditional gospel music lover but I was very pleasantly surprised. I fell in love with it, my favorite is "You Know Me" but I enjoy the whole CD from beginning to end and you can't say that about alot of music these days. Take it from someone who has a mountain of music in my collection, this is definitely close to the top of my list of favorites.
Didnt see it coming.......2006-11-22
Even though I gave this a 3. I was extremely suprised by george's vocal talent. I didn't really like him or his voice on american idol. But the control he had on his songs was breathtaking. Very solid vocalist!!
Surprisingly good..........2006-10-24
My comments on George's CD are brief but to the point. Bottom line, I've been enjoying this CD. I mean, you don't hear vocals like his in the mainstream anymore unless you turn to an old-school R&B radio station(I'll get more in-depth on that in a moment). I saw the video for 'Miracles' and liked it, so I bought the CD on a whim. Pretty good record. My favorite tune is 'See what God can do', and I also like 'Brighter Day' and 'Fortunes'. I didn't give 5 stars for two reasons. Firstly: I feel his record would have been even better if he'd been back by a live rhythm section on certain tunes. Secondly: I don't care too much for songs with blatantly politically correct(e.g. inspirational) lyrics, trying to walk the line between secular and spiritual for the sake of record sales. Just do one or the other; we ain't that stupid. I go to church regularly, but I ain't trying to get rid of my collection of Prince CD's. Fugittaboutit!! Now, for my customary rant against the music biz...
Is it just me, or has the record industry and the public in general lost its love for gravely-voiced male vocalists? Maybe its a Pro Tools thing. Remember Soul/Funk of the 60's/70's? All of those cats had powerful, raspy vocals(Otis, David Ruffin, O'Jays, Sam and Dave, Levi Stubbs, Teddy P., Frankie Beverly, Bobby Womack, Joe Tex, and on and on) and they seemed to do alright for themselves in terms of record sales and popularity. My, how things have changed. You got cats like Gerald Levert and Johnny Gill getting dropped by their labels. Last I checked, they still sing pretty darned good. It causes me to I wonder though: If Ruben Studddard had some grit in his voice would he have even made it to the final 8 on American Idol? Just a theory, take it or leave it.
Pleasantly Surprised!!!!!!.......2006-10-03
Wow, this Cd was such a pleasant surprise, I have a hard time listening to some gospel music because some have alot of screaming or the music is just too dull or noisy, but this CD kept me listening and singing the whole time, George Huff's voice is fantastic and some of the songs are so smooth. I can't wait for his next gospel CD,. thank you George!!!!!
George Huff is an extremely good entertainer!.......2006-09-29
His music is deep, the music is slow-paced R&B. Which is fine but isn't everyone's cup of tea. You have to be an easy-listening mode, for me, it's kinda boring but others may really enjoy this album. Real Love is probably the most entertaining track & the kind of thing I could see him performing! but he has a soothing voice & is one of the nicest guys to come on AI! I don't think he could've won AI but I think he could've gone a little further but that's the past. but it's really up to the listeners tastes in music, I was just glad to support him when I bought his album!

could have used more original 45s.......2007-02-25
the inclusion of "would i love you" on this cd is great as it was never available on an LP, except for the "In the beginning" anthology from the late 60's. the inclusion of this song was great, but whoever was doing the picking, picked the wrong one. this is not the original "would i love you", but is an alternate take. the original is much better. too bad they did not include that. the remainder of the cd is great.
THE MIRACLES..MOTOWN'S GREATEST GROUP, PERIOD !!.......2006-06-12
I dont care what others say about The Supremes,Temptations, or other Motown groups, the MIRACLES were the greatest group to ever come out of Motown.PERIOD!! Why ? for one thing, they were the FIRST MOTOWN GROUP.It was their success that paved the way for all the others. Had they not been successful, there would have been NO MOTOWN,and none of those other groups would have even found fame ,or at least not to the extent which they did. They also had Motown's first million-selling record "Shop Around".THE MIRACLES put MOTOWN on the map. During the company's critical early years- 1959-1964- they were BY FAR Motowns TOP GROUP,(despite what certain reviewers have written},with top 10 pop hits in '1961,'62,AND' 63, the STAR ATTRACTION of the legendary MOTORTOWN REVUES,and the ONLY group that was bringing any serious money into the company!! By 1964, the year that the SUPREMES, TEMPTATIONS, AND THE FOUR TOPS had their 1st hits, THE MIRACLES had released their 1ST DOUBLE ALBUM of GREATEST HITS !! Yet, while all these other Motown groups have been inducted ,AS GROUPS, into the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME, The MIRACLES have been ignored. They chose to induct only Smokey. What a shame and insult to MOTOWN'S legendary First Group. The TEMPTATIONS ? great singers and dancers to be sure, but what most Temptations fans WON'T tell you is that 9 of their first 12 hits were actually written by The MIRACLES !! not just Smokey,THE WHOLE GROUP !! Don't believe it ? just look at the writing credits on the Tempts GREATEST HITS album !(How many MIRACLES songs did the TEMPTATIONS WRITE ? think about it}. THE SUPREMES ? They wouldn't have even GOTTEN on Motown if not for Smokey !!Stevie Wonder? He was discovered by Miracles member RONNIE WHITE !! THE MARVELETTES,MARVIN GAYE & MARY WELLS ?Yep, they wrote their stuff too.The MIRACLES were responsible, either directly or indirectly, for the success of just about EVERY EARLY ARTIST ON THE MOTOWN LABEL!! In fact ,of the five leading Motown groups ( Supremes, Temptations,4 tops,Miracles,J-5 }The MIRACLES were the ONLY ones that wrote their own material. Hopefully one day ,the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME will induct them ALL-SMOKEY, BOBBY,RONNIE, PETE, MARV & CLAUDETTE ,not just SMOKEY , as they did.Want to know why they deserve it? Just listen to this CD.Then, read the writing credits. It will prove that SMOKEY wasn't the ONLY serious talent in this group.
Best overview to date.......2005-09-25
This generous 52-track compilation is a pretty definitive overview of the Miracles recording career in terms of singles releases, as all the A-sides are here (with the exception of a couple of early pre-Tamla, non-Top 100 sides), as well as 11 B-sides, one of which, Would I Love You? from 1964, seems not to have been on any original album. Their early Chess single (as the Matadors), Got A Job, an answer record to the Silhouettes' Get A Job, was produced by Berry Gordy and its local success led to the eventual formation of the famous Motown label, so its inclusion here (unfortunately in mono) is highly warranted. Three of the singles are in the slightly-longer LP versions - no bad thing at all, but the inclusion of the 1963 live version of I've Been Good To You in preference to the version from I'll Try Something New that was the B-side of What's So Good About Goodbye is perhaps more questionable.
Although the first 8 tracks are in mono, the rest are in stereo and it is a delight to discover that tracks 9-24 on disc 1 appear in previously unreleased stereo mixes. To hear old classic favourites like You've Really Got A Hold On Me and Mickey's Monkey in stereophonic glory for he first time is like discovering them afresh. The separation of guitars, horns and voices adds so much to the sound picture.
The first disc, which is over 80 minutes long, is especially strong and causes one to want to dig out the original albums. The overall descent into schmaltz and blandness on the second disc is offset by some key returns to form, notably on Abraham Martin And John, The Tears Of A Clown (US Single Remix) and I Don't Blame You At All. Sadly, by the time of We've Come Too Far To End It Now, Smokey Robinson had come too far not to end it then
This is IT! The best Smokey Robinson & the Miracles collection available........2005-09-22
On 2 cd's Motown has finally put together a recent collection/anthology that is worthy of praise and it is this one. The songs go all the way back to 1959-60 when the Miracles recorded for Chess and End Records prior to Motown. Motown hit the sonic jackpot when they took the earliest STEREO masters and pressed them that way with 20 or 24 bit remastering. Forget about that big MONO Miracles box as well as all of the Miracles previous anthologies. This collection is the real deal.
A nice overview.......2004-05-14
Smokey Robinson really had a way with words, what a gifted guy this was. Listening to his work you can really understand why people see him as a great poet. This is a long two disc Motown set of The Miracles, and it covers their early work right to the end in 1970 when Smokey went solo. I always loved that ole 60s Motown sound and its sweet listening to this set, remembering how R&B used to sound. So many classic jams on this album, and a lot of stuff you probably wont have heard before. Cuts like 'I Second That Emotion' and 'Tears Of A Clown' will always be timeless.
With so much material on here this album is worth the price, Smokey is an all time great artist, and his work shines here. He never was as important solo as his label mates Marvin and Stevie but he had a lot of talent. Essential for people who can't get enough of that old Motown stuff like Temptations, Four Tops, The Supremes, what a label.

Everything He Touched.......2006-12-28
These days, there are just so many classic acts of the Motown era that've been all but forgotten, in favor of soul wannabe acts like Ciara, Ashanti, and Ruben Studdard from American Idol that just don't have the appeal of the classic days of soul that were just astonishing. That happened long ago, especially with Smokey Robinson. Even though he hasn't scored a hit record in years, the soulfulness he has made for so many eras of lovers has not lost its edge. The songs still are just delightful to listen to. Now, another hits record has surfaced that shines so bright on one of the most classic singers of all time.
The 2006 Smokey Robinson & The Miracles Gold, is a nearly definitive, and well-conjured hits record that showcases Smokey, and 40 of his biggest hits on his own, and with his defiant era as a part of The Miracles. The Motown classics here have all be restored very well, and bring out the best songs in a longtime. The album includes great classics like Tears Of A Clown, the somber Tracks Of My Tears, Ooh Baby Baby, Shop Around, and many other classics. The collection also delivers brightly with Smokey on his solo efforts, a little better than last year's My World: Definitive Collection on songs like Let Me Be The Clock, Crusin', the #1 R&B soul hit Being With You, and Just To See Her. Sadly though, the collection overlooks a few great tracks from Smokey's solo efforts like I Must Have Made Love To You A Thousand Times, and his 1990 #2 hit Everything You Touch.
All in all, despite a few overlooked songs, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles Gold is a delightful reintroduction to one of the most soulful songers, and classic Motown groups of all time. If you love some of the classic era Motown than this is a must buy for you, as well as die hard Smokey Robinson fans. If you haven't heard any of these classics before, than I also suggest this great buy, just to hear him again.

Smokey's Definitive CD.......2006-08-17
If you are looking for a definitive CD with the majority of the tracks in true living stereo, this is the one. Of all of the collections, this is his best effort. Not only do you get the best from Smokey & the Miracles, but you also get Smokey as an individual. This is one of the only CDs that has THE Best Stereo version of I Don't Blame You At All. There is no filler here. Pure great Soul music from the 60's. The only two hits missing are Do It and Love Machine by just the Miracles. Otherwise, for the first time listener or for the veteran fan, this is the CD to purchase. Great sound, production, stereo, and that magic voice of Smokey. This is a winner. Pure Gold!

When last we left our hero, the former Green on Red guitarist--one of the most underrated Telecaster players on the planet--was parsing the connections between neo-soul, twangy blues, and Dylanesque rock on 2002's No Other Love, perhaps his best solo album. On this postmodern roots plunge, he swims deeper into pastiche song structures, adding lighter strings, heavier guitar licks, and more restless romanticism. His beats, however, remain as thick as they are organic, his voice occluded in a raspy filter. If the songwriting resonates a bit less fiercely (with the notable exceptions of the title track and the power-poppy "Just to See You Smile"), Prophet continues to make records that sound like none other on the loosely defined alt-country scene--lush, elliptical, inventive, moody, and deeply, even eloquently, grooved. --Roy Kasten

Another great album from Chuck!.......2006-02-24
One of those albums that's great on the first listen, but gets even better with repeated ones.
A Divine Prophecy.......2005-11-17
We'd heard his name for a few years, but it wasn't until we heard `Just to See You Smile' come bubbling out of our radio that we took an interest. Although `...Smile' is the sprightliest song on Prophet's `Age of Miracles' there are a handful of others just as ear-pleasing. Prophet is a tough artist to categorize...our favorite kind. He mixes just enough elements of rock, country and blues to personify "pop". He is as versed and versatile a guitarist as he is a songwriter. He is an accomplished producer who blends organic studio sounds with those synthetic ones that denote the century in which they were recorded. Reminiscent, vocally, of a bunch of artists we've heard before (Lou Reed, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Jerry Jeff Walker, Frank Zappa), he provides just the right combo of authority, humor, and edge to his array of fine songs. Prophet has a back catalogue. This cd is good enough to compel us, given the time and the financial resources, to go back and dig through it.
You can't go wrong!.......2005-06-05
If you are looking for something to kick back and relax to, this is it! I am a blues, rock, folk, funk and everything in-between lover and this happens to be one of my favs of all time.
Awesome CD.......2005-02-10
I bought this CD for the song "Pin a Rose On Me," but when I listened to the whole thing, I found two songs I liked even more: "Monkey on My Back" and "You Did." I've actually loaned out two copies and am now on my third. Unbelievably, my mom took my latest one, and she's 62, and the previous one went to my niece who is 16, so there is definitely a range of listeners who will like this music. I know the comparisons have already been made, but Prophet sounds to me like a combination of Tom Waits, Tom Petty, Leonard Cohen, and Bob Dylan. (Although my mother thinks he's a bit like Anthony from the Chili Peppers, as well. Yah, she's a cool mom.) Anyway, I think the entire CD is amazing and I've just ordered two other ones to listen to, as well.
