                DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! The recording quality is so inferior and the static so loud, it drowns out the singing. I am too tired to return it; however, not too tired to tap a few keys and warn others.

                These voices from the past convey "the spirit" of negro spirituals. Despite some scratchy recordings, they hit the heart with force. I hear them in my bed at night. There is a powerful combination of the joyful and the sober in them. The style is early 20th century. This version of "In that Great Gettin' Up Mawnin'" just makes you tremble. Technically, the CD is recorded from old albums, but the singers themselves are top-notch. Both Vol. 2 and 3 (don't have 1 yet) are heads above other CD's in the same category that I've heard. The style could remind some of days they would like to forget, but the content and artistry overcomes this for me. Go for it!
