Everybody's favorite precocious sprite of a soprano comes out with her third album in Dream a Dream. It's only been two years since Charlotte Church's smash debut, Voice of an Angel, but that's a big chunk of the Welsh singer's life span so far. This latest is basically a Christmas album, so full of festive cheer you'd never guess it was recorded in the summer. Even the glummest of moods will disappear when you hear Charlotte's infectious take on chestnuts such as "Winter Wonderland" and "Little Drummer Boy" (and having the London Symphony Orchestra as your backup band doesn't hurt either). And on top of that is a really special treat: the title song (borrowing an unforgettable classical melody) which blends Church's soaring vocals with the tender voice of young country prodigy Billy Gilman. --Sarah Chin

I bought this CD after watching the music video of the same name. Their performance of "dream a dream" is exquisite. The fact that they wrote the lyrics just adds icing to an already magnificent cake!

5 out of 5 stars This girl has Potential (I wish the press would back off)!!!!!!.......2007-03-01

You know charlotte church has received so much harsh critismn about her,I find that people were jeolous of her voice, and of how a young girl can sing, she is definetly my dream ome true, (So back off johnathan flanders),this girl in the past has done some wonderful music which is inspirational and she is a wonderful person, I dont care whether she has changed, anyway her rock albumn has given me a lease on life and has given me potential in my singing,I love your voice very much, and this reviewer hasnt been written by a kid at all,if charlotte church is reading this, good on yeah girl, you definetly my dream come true, and I hope I will see you one day. your best friend JJCox

5 out of 5 stars A must-have for Christmas music lovers.......2006-12-07

this cd is pure magic...almost 20 great christmas songs on one cd sung by the voice of an angel herself..there may be a few mixed reviews by some people who must be opera voice teachers because there is nothing wrong with this cd...it is flawless....charlotte's soaring vocals, the beautiful orchestra and background singers, the whole cd has the christmas feel to it..."o come all ye faithfull" has to be heard to be believed...it is breathtaking...i love charlottes take on "winter wonderland" and "ding dong merrily on high" ..made me want to go dance in the snow or something.....she hits every note beautifully..buy this cd...i bought it back in 2000 and have listened to it at every Christmastime since or Christmas doesnt feel the same.

5 out of 5 stars Gorgeous! .......2005-12-07

Charlotte Church has done it again! She is extremely talented. Even if she was 25 when she put this out, she'd be amazing. But she was only 14-15 years old when she recorded this! Beautiful. This album has great choral accompaniments and fabulous orchestra arrangements. It is a little on the high side in certain songs, but it still sounds amazing. I love her voice.

4 out of 5 stars Where's Mountain?.......2004-07-18

This is a great collection, but where is the great Mountain track
Stormy Monday, that is on the L.P.?? Check it out if you can find
a copy of the L.P., and still have something to play it on.

3 out of 5 stars A mixed bag (..baby!).......2001-10-14

I picked this goodie up in a used CD store - and only because I saw the video of the concert (which is pretty hip but slacking in total music performances).

As with any festival type collections (a la Woodstock, Horde, etc.) there will be some great cuts and some lame ones. So here's my thoughts....
FREE - nice but unneccessary. A 2 chord jam gets boring quick and Paul Rodgers was never anything to write home about.
TULL - Kicks...!!! See the video performance!!
COHEN, KRISTOFERSON, TIM, BAEZ - ..eh!
HENDRIX - not his best but enjoyable
TEN YEARS AFTER - Amazing! Alvin Lee is the guitar man! 10 minutes of mindblowing jaming!
JONI - Phenominal (as always)
ELP - if you dig them you'll love the performance - see the video for Keith playing his keys upsidedown.
DOORS, WHO, DONOVAN, MOODIES - as always, great performers
MILES - the man was incredible. 16 minute free-jazz jam
GREAT AWAKENING - whoever this is does a great rendition of Amazing Grace!
DYLAN - just the studio cut from Highway 61.

Give it a try if you like the performers.

2 out of 5 stars Its ok but get The Who's Doubble cd and Hendrix's cd.......2000-07-30

This CD is ok but you are better off getting The Who's cd and Hendrix's cd. It is a good cd if you want to get a mix of what was at the fest.

4 out of 5 stars great glimpse into transition era in rock.......2000-06-05

OK, the sound quality of the recordings is about what you'd expect of an early era outdoor concert, but this collection is worth getting if only for the glimpse into a time of turbulent change in the rock&roll scene. The collection of artists & selections here shows the diversity of music widely enjoyed by rock fans before they had to decide if they were fans of rock, or heavy metal, or folk, or alternative, or adult alternative, or pop-rock, or some other category of interest primarily to the record company marketing staff. This was still (barely) the days of music for the fans, a fact sometimes too aggressively proclaimed by the infamously unruly crowds at this festival. The small club folkies haven't yet figured out how to hold a vast crowd with less-than-ideal acoustics, the power groups haven't yet become addicted to endless decades of self-congratulatory stadium tours for inflated prices, teh guitar players are still playing just to show you what new things they have learned that a guitar can do, and you can even get a glimpse into why there is such a split opinion over the ratings of such clearly talented people as Pete Townshend and Jim Morrison (the Darryl Strwberries of their genre, clearly talented, but not always able to channel those talents into a connection with their audience). If you want an eclectic music collection, you can get a good start with just this set. Obvious comparisons with the Woodstock discs beg, both sets include a great variety of styles and quality levels of performances and recordings, but I find the main difference to be in a perceptible change in the audience. At Woodstock we were still there to groove on the music and the scene and free love; the audience and the performers were equally as starry-eyed about the whole scene. Here we were starting to think everything ought to be free, and we were owed it, man, and those freakin' singers better deliver it. If Woodstock was a celebration of the hippie era, then Isle of Wight was a riot demanding it, audience and musicians on opposite sides, the start of a rapid growth of commercialism in rock & roll, a growing pain of a developing industry. Still, for anyone who likes music of the early 70's, there is a lot of wheat among the chaff here, and it always makes an interesting listen, even if there is a temptation to skip a track now & again. 3+ stars for the music (4 if you're a Hendrix or Alvin Lee fan), 4 for the experience.

2 out of 5 stars woodstock doesn't compare.......2000-02-19

This double-CD's bill has just about everybody who was somebody on the rock scene in 1970, and I must admit - and I'm sticking my neck way out here - it's BETTER than the Woodstock soundtrack!

Ironically Jimi Hendrix's contribution is sloppy and uninteresting. It's too bad he died a few weeks later; even worse that the recordings from the interim will probably never make it onto authorized CD.

ELP and Ten Years After are best left for the history books and if you take a listen to their 10-minute exhibitions you'll know why.

Leonard Cohen is great; Joni Mitchell isn't far behind. John Sebastian (remember him?) gets a torpid couple of minutes in the limelight, and fortunately that's as generous as the compilers wanted to get. Jim Morrison...I don't get it (luckily, I must admit).

The hardest act to follow is Miles Davis and his electric septet, who deliver 16 minutes of cryptic mutant jazz, not a wasted note (alright, maybe a few bars). But the Who don't slouch by any means. Between the two groups you have enough energy to reward your generosity at the checkout counter.

I LOVE this cd!! It's a great way to get started in the morning.
The music is easy on the ears and the words are good too. There's simply not a bad song in the whole cd. My favorites are "luscious lips" and "wendy." They are all great songs. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys good pop music. Frankly, it's the best pop cd I own. I can't wait for his next one to come out.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD that will hook the listener from the opening track!.......2004-01-01

I am the webmaster of the America Fans web site and it was through an America fan that I became aware of Burke's album, "Let It All Come Down". The title track leads off the album and instantly hooks the listener. Burke's vocals and excellent lyrics are only enhanced by some great production and a fantastic backup band. There are very few albums that I can listen to over and over but this is one of them. There isn't a bad song on the album and there are quite a few great ones. I would recommend this album to anyone who enjoys popular music!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome! A refreshing return to strong melody rock!.......2003-06-24

How refreshing to have distinguishable melodies. This is fun upbeat pleasant rock and roll. I would say the tunes hit in-between the beatles and Phil Collins but his voice hits somewhere in-between Aaron Neville and Smokey Robinson. I hope the world discovers his music so we can see a bunch more albums. This is great stuff. I am hooked into a repeat play mode on this one. Especially great are "Let It All Come Down" and "Wendy". This is a safe one to recommend to your friends to snag.

5 out of 5 stars Moravian songs, via Janacek, Godar, Bittova and Skampa.......2006-05-09

This is a unique recording of Janacek's transcriptions of Moravian folk songs. Originally for piano and voice, they have been transcribed by Slovak composer Vladimir Godar for string quartet and (occasionally) three-voice male chorus. Here they are performed by renowned Czech singer and violinist Iva Bittova, accompanied by the Skampa Quartet and chorus. The effect is not so much of classical liede, but of authentic eastern European "popular" songs - the sonority of the string quartet adds to this in no small part. Janacek would be proud.

2 out of 5 stars Skampa Quartet is great - the singer... yikes.......2005-07-28

I honestly did not know what I was getting myself into when I bought this CD. I love Janacek, I love folk songs... how could I go wrong? Iva Bittova! I was concerned that she would have a 50yr old woobly voice, but instead what exists is a thin VERY nasal tone... perhaps she should be singing traditional Bulgarian music! The voice is expressive, just ugly.
The recording quality is not very good, either. On many of the tracks, Iva seems to be muffled and in the background of the recording.
Really - dont waste your time and money, unless you really would just like to have a recording of over 50 Janacek songs.

    5 out of 5 stars all Christmas,all the Time.......2007-01-10

This two cd offering has almost all my favorites.the classics, not the Rudolph ones. Can't recommend enough.Listen and read Dickens...That's enough Christmas for anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Title makes a big claim, but it absolutely delivers..........2006-12-02

This album provides 2.5 hours of excellent carols, from excellent choirs and soloists, and with great sound. I was worried that a compilation this large, and with such an extravagent title, would be B-side offerings, but that's not the case at all.

This isn't an album if you are looking for something "fresh and new." The arrangements are traditional, and even newer carols are done in a fairly conservative style. But that said, some of the pieces provide the best orchestration and voice arrangement I have ever heard. This is like the pinnacle of the classic English Christmas carol; clean, precise, glorious and celebratory.

5 out of 5 stars Its time to be seasonal.......2005-12-16

This album contains traditional carols performed in a traditional way at the best quality. It is an excellent album to ensure the spirit of christmas is present and to bring the true meaning of christmas back. The double CD selection has all the golden favourites as well as not so wellknown carols to complete a very good christmas album. Merry Christmas to you all!

5 out of 5 stars Contemporary Gospel at Its Best!.......2003-02-14

This CD is a wonderful blessing to those who listen. It's so good I am actually speechless. Frank Morrison-Henderson has been blessed with a great gift to sing, compassion for people and an amazing song-writing ability. This man's voice is so incredible you would have to be Satan not to be moved by both him and the music.

This is one of the few CDs where you sit there and listen to every single track and be blessed by every word. I have listened to this CD over and over and I can't get enough of it. Listening to this CD has encouraged my soul and spirit.

I highly recommend it to everyone who LOVES contemporary gospel.

      Album Description

EXPEDITION's new CD "Journey To A Whole New World" presents artful rock and pop that delivers a positive message through thoughtful lyrics and vocals, pulsing beats, stirring keyboard support, and both soft acoustic and stinging electric guitar work. The band is the forum for singer/songwriter Brad Surovec. On their Smokehouse label debut, Brad and his bandmates take the listener through a musical adventure that offers both soft acoustic excursions and intricate, electric-driven joy rides. The CD's message is singularly one of hope and redemption and the tracks "Tell Me" and "I Will Give You Rest" exemplify that in a contemporary, radio-friendly fashion. At times showing influences that include artists like Yes and Genesis, Brad's song structures are at the same time familiar and refreshing. It is his vocal presence, however, that takes this recording to a level of prominence. The distinctive quality he possesses is enhanced by the stories that he presents with all of his heart. If you believe that we were all created with a purpose, listening to this CD will make it abundantly clear that "Journey To A Whole New World" is EXPEDITION's.
