More Playgroup Favorites piles on a second batch of predictable songs--nothing you won't find on any preschool compilation--the main difference being that they're sandwiched between a solid five tracks of Mommy & Me-specific songs. "Shake My Hand (Hello Song)" and "Take My Hand (Goodbye Song)," call to mind snuggly together time for moms and tots across the country, and this CD capitalizes on their lovey-dovey devotion to the weekly groups that make interacting (goofing around on the floor and clapping out simple rhythms together) mandatory. Nothing wrong with that--some parents will even salute themselves for extending the enriching environment to their living room rugs. But this kind of fun, can grow formulaic fast, despite the performers' best stabs at loopiness. --Tammy La Gorce

The writers have taken classic songs and added really poor quality lyrics:
Ride ride ride your bike
Down the busy street
Isn't it surprising
All the kangaroos you meet

Awful!

The song segments are terribly edited: the moms' mouths don't sync with the soundtrack at all. The cartoon segments are cheesy and poorly animated. The belching kangaroo only adds to the nausea I get when my wife plays this video.

To be fair, my daughter really enjoys it. But she also enjoys Sesame Street and Disney stuff. Don't waste your time.

My son has this one and the Playgroup Favorites, and he loves both (and has since he was an infant). The songs are catchy and not too annoying for the grown-ups. Really keeps him entertained! Highly recommend buying.

My daughter, Emily and I are having the BEST time in the car since we've been listening to "Mommy and Me, More Playgroup Favorites." Now when we get in the car, Emily immediately yells out: "MOMMY ME!" which means, crank up the tunes mom! Once the CD starts playing, Emily recites all the words to the songs, which I was very surprised to hear. The original songs like "Mommy & Me," "Shake My Hand," and "Take My Hand," written by Marty Panzer, are quickly becoming cherished favorites in our family. Panzer has also written fresh new lyrics to classics like, "If You're Happy And You Know It," " Head Shoulders Knees and Toes," and "Row Row Row Your Boat," among others. It's shocking that this wonderful CD has replaced the Wiggles as my daughter's new favorite obsession! Even my husband hums the tunes to himself when we get in the car for a family outing. Thank you for bringing such wonderful music into our lives!

I did not know who Hayley Westenra was until I saw her performing on PBS. She has a really beautiful voice. This cd is a Christmas cd that she has recorded. Some songs are traditional Christmas songs and others are inspirational tunes. I recommend it.

Celtic Woman is probably the best kept secret in the music world. I caught their show on our KCPT public television station and thought it was the best show they have ever aired. I have told my friend about Celtic Woman and they rave about them also. My favorite of all of the girls is Haley Westenra, but all of them are super and can stand alone on their individual talent. I can't say enough about the violin playing girl on the dvd, she is remarkable and mezmorizing to say the least. If you appreciate good quality entertainment, you can't miss with a purchase of Celtic Woman.

    This is an excellent CD. The original music is eloquent and touching. Alexander O'Neal's vocal range allows him to hit every note without any apparent strain. This CD needs to be in everyone's music collection. And played every year during the Christmas season.

    GREAT new songs keep you toe tapping and singing along. Reworks of some standards are up to Alexander O'Neals wonderful voice and interpretation. True, this album was released many years ago, but it holds up to the test of time.

      I own this release - on cassette, that's how long I've had it! I generally don't like Christmas albums, but I bought this one anyway purely becuase I loved Alexander O'Neal's voice and I knew that the combination of him on vocals and Jam/Lewis on production could not fail. The album also features the Ann Nesby & the Sound of of Blackness on some track.

      I would have been fine with this album as a 3/5, it actually turned out the be much better than that, more like a 4/5, points being docked on GP just for being a Christmas album!

      Not coincidentally, Jam & Lewis are devout Christians and the SOund sof Blackness is a legit Greammy-winning Gospel Choir in its own right, so the albums gets real love and devotion from the makers. They clearly did not see this as just merely a cynical marketing opportunity, its a labour of love. The vocal performance from Alex is top notch and Jam & Lewis do inspired work here. There was only one backing track that was obviously borrowed whole-hog from their previosu work. The rest is recognizable but not stale.

      Even if you dont like Christmas albums (as I dont) I suspect that you may like this album just for the sheer quality of it. Its one of the few xmas albums that I keep playing every year!

      This is the greatest Christmas album ever put together by one artist. Alexander O'neal bring his sould to Christmas through his music and he deliver a absolute classic. "My Gift To You" the title track is nuthing short of amazing. "Our First Christmas" is a beautiul Christmas love song. From beginning to end this album is just amazing. Believe me... You have to get this for Christmas.

My 2 and 1/2 year old son is now singing along with the Chritmas songs. Alexander O'Neal does traditonal and contemporary equally well. His beautiful voice, the lush production and the sequence of ballads and uptempo Chritmas music makes this equally good for relaxing at home and keeping you motivated in a workplace. You feel the holidays when this is on. Find it, add it to your collection!!!

      Album Description

      Shaker music is a unique body of American sacred folk music, created by eighteen American Shaker communities over a period of one hundred and forty years (1780-1920). This rich tradition of song continues to serve the Shaker community in the twenty-first century because it embodies their history, records the testimony of Shakers "who have gone before," articulates the religious principles on which Shakerism is founded, and reflects the faith of the contemporary community. Shaker music was created and nurtured in communities that prized isolation from worldly ways. Shaker melodies, although related to the larger tradition of Anglo-American folk songs, are not bound by their form, tonality, melodic or rhythmic structure.

      The Enfield Shaker singers are a vocal ensemble of adults and children devoted to the study and performance of Shaker music. The group is open to all without audition, and is made up of both trained musicians and amateur singers. We draw heavily on the repertoire received or composed in the two societies that were the New Hampshire Bishopric—Canterbury and Enfield. Since the New Hampshire societies enriched their repertoire with songs from all the other Shaker communities, they also sing songs of the New York, Maine, Massachusetts, Ohio and Kentucky Shakers.

      The Enfield Shaker Singers are drawn to Shaker spirituals that illuminate Shaker communal values and broaden our definitions of the sacred. The songs included on this recording illustrate some of the many ways music served Shaker communities. Most Shaker song texts are theologically direct, emotionally honest, and expressive of our shared humanity.

      On this recording we offer thirty-nine songs we have come to love. Some have special meaning for individuals. We associate others with a particular singer in the group, or an occasion when it was sung. Each song offers us slightly different insights into Shaker aspiration, and Shaker faith.       If one likes the songs of the Shakers written in the late 18th and early 19 century that were without musical instruments, then you may like this CD. I found 8 songs out of the 30 or more on the CD that I liked, the others I did not care for much. This is no fault of the creators of the Cd, it is simply the style of the Shakers of the past.
