Arms of Mercy - Kim Hill.......2007-06-11
No problems with receiving this. This is one of my favorites by Kim.
An extraordinary and unusual singer........2002-09-24
I only have this one album by Kim Hill and I found her voice phenomenal and pleasing to listen to..
Her choice of songs on this album are truly inspiring and, in particular "You Alone" for which she co-wrote the lyrics,.is a song of praise and worship to our wonderful God and Heavenly Father.
The last track, which was written by her, brings back so many wonderful memories of my children when they were young and now they have grown 'like beautiful trees'. I recently lost the second youngest of my five children to an incurable illness and, in all my years of correspondence with her...she studied in the States, met her husband there and had three precious little boys there and also died there, I would always end my letters with the words "I love you to the moon and back". There is no measurement of our love for our children and it is, therefore, always a joy to give them our best.
This is an album that will bless your heart and draw you closer to Jesus.
A blessing to behold.......2001-06-30
This cd not only encourages me in my walk with Christ, it strengthens me daily to know how much He loves me. "All that I Want" and "You Are Still Holy" are songs that minister to my spirit daily. I would highly recommend this for anyone's collection as it contains many upbeat songs and several songs that take you deep into His throne room and deep into Arms of Mercy.
Walking with God.......2001-04-12
This is currently my favorite CD. The songs have won me over one at a time. You are still Holy touched my heart last summer when I was going through a personal hard time. The line "Lord, I don't deserve your tender patience when my unbelief has kept me from your truth" was very reassuring. You Alone is the song when I am alone and He is all I need. Show the Way addresses the problem of evil in a powerful, hopeful way.
These songs and the way they are sung bring to into the Holiness of God mixed with the delight that God wants an intimate relationship with. Marvelous.
This album will touch you.......2001-02-20
Every once in a while an album will come along that truly speaks to my heart, and this album is that one. Every time I hear it I am ushered into the very throne room of God. Songs like "You are Still Holy", "Consume Me", "Hold Me Close", and "You Alone" speak to the deepest longings of my soul; the need for purity, holiness, and an intense desire to know the face of my Creator. This album will move you like few others.

An awesome compilation album - proceeds go to a worthy cause.......2001-03-13
Mercy Ministries is an organization that serves Jesus through reaching out to young women in their time of need. (See mercyministries.org). The proceeds from this project go to Mercy Ministries, so you can feel good about donating money to this wonderful group, and you get a MARVELOUS music CD at the same time!
12 female Christian music artists come together on this album and the result is WONDERFUL music, telling of how there is hope, even when things are so bad the you can't pray, when your life is turned upside-down, there is unconditional love waiting for each and every person through Jesus!
My favorites are "Kiss of Heaven" by Darlene Zschech, "Sanctuary" by Michelle Tumes, "You'll Get Through This" by Martina McBride, "Love Won't Leave You Now" by Point of Grace, and the very touching and poignant "Inside Out" by April McLean.
This album is also a great way to hear lots of Christian music artists...
You'll love this album!
Very Good.......2000-12-20

i wasn't sure what to expect from this cd but i must say that i was plesantly surprised. the whole cd is good but the one track that stands out is martina mcbride's song called you'll get through this. she is one phenomenal singer and this song is truly inspirational. her vocal performance alone makes this cd worth having.

Not My Favorite of Kim's, But Still Great.......2004-10-02
I've been a fan of Kim Hill since seeing her open for Amy Grant in the early 1990's. She seemed to start as pop-like Christian artist, dabbled in country, then returned to CCM and worship music.
My favorite Kim Hill CD is still BRAVE HEART, but there's one song on this CD that--when I hear it from time to time--is absolutely devastating. "I Need To Know." Kim's voice wrings out the plaintive cry of a desperate soul trying to find some light in a long dark night.
"Bring to me the fire again, bring to me the fire again...."
It just gets me every time.
Great Blessing.......2002-08-15
The music on this CD is excellent, possibly her best. I have over
600 Contemporary Christian CDs in my collection and this is one
of my favorites. While I do love the music on this CD that's not
why I rate it so high. I don't care what kind of mood I'm in I
can't listen to this CD without being blessed to the point of
tears. Thank you, Kim Hill, for being faithful to God and then
sharing it with us!
A RIVIEW.......1999-12-29
The Fire Again was given to me as a gift from a friend at church. Well, when I found it 5 years later (after cleaning my room) i decided to listen - which is how most of my christian artist experiences have been, don't ask me why. Anyways, i thought this particular album (still think) is very interesting. There is a song on there that reminds me of the Old theme from General Hospital...which intrigued me. Kim Hill sounds kind of like Tracy Champman, don't you think? The piano songs alone always make me cry, but that is to be expected, living on a hill myself, but the upbeat ones keep me from drowning. THANK YOU:)
Her best album yet!!!.......1998-12-22
Another stunning performance from this wonderful artist. I never cease to be amazed by the depth of her voice, it is so powerful, and combined with the exceptional lyrics her music is very moving, very hearfelt. I love all of her albums and don't want to put her others down, but she just keeps getting better. Highly recommended!!!

More of the Same, Nashville "Worship" Music........2005-03-29
I've seen Kim Hill live. She can belt out a song with passion and persona. Her interpretations of classics are interesting and inspiring. Too bad you won't find any of this on Surrounded by Mercy.
When corporations want to promote a no-talent cutie-pie, they stick her in a high-tech studio with an overzealous engineer. Somewhere in a sea of overdubs, pitch correction, reverb and cranked up background music, a new pop idol emerges. Apparently, somebody tried to do the same thing with Kim Hill on Surrounded by Mercy, which begs the question, "Why?".
Kim is a genuine talent and doesn't need all that over-production. The CD also featured faux audience interaction to simulate the feel of live worship. This falls into the category of "flawed concept" and has "management decision" written all over it.
Many of the songs start out pretty good. Then the all the production kicks in and Kim Hill gets lost in a downward spiral of too many instruments, too much processing and too many background singers. Yawn.
Kim, take your Gibson and a mini disc recorder to your basement. Play the songs you want to play and sing them the way you want to sing them. Release it on a CD and I'll buy it and play it over and over again. I'm sure tens of thousands of other people will as well.
Best Christian CD EVER!.......2003-11-19
If you only buy one Christian CD, make it THIS ONE! Kim Hill is an inspiration. I wake up singing these songs!
Awesome.......2003-09-12
This CD was over and above all that I expected. I have several of Kim's CD's and absolutley love her love for Jesus which is so evident in her music. This CD captured my heart with the lyrics and music of true praise, love, and worship of our precious Savior.

A Classic that needs to be Reissued!.......2004-01-13
It's funny that the other reviews here mention how great it is to drive to this music. There are sections of the northern country of Arizona that I think I'll always associate with Kim Hill's BRAVE HEART. I had the cassette in the early 90's and constantly played it while cruising the southwest.
As cassettes go the way of the 8-track, I wanted to replace my copy with a CD--and found out that BRAVE HEART was out of print! Fortunately, I was able to special order it through amazon and it arrived today.
I've played it several times now and I still love this album. I believe this is Kim's best (to date) and I hope it finds new life in a reissue someday.
Music to soar by--then, now and always.
Still my favorite.......2002-07-31
Contrary to the previous reviewer, I consider "Stop My Heart" the best track on the CD. Lyrics are strong, vocals that mirror the ambiguity of the subject, good guitars, the sounds at the end are way cool, showdown-like. Ok, maybe it takes time to grow on you.
For me definitely "car music" for scenic tours. If you liked this one, get "Talk About Life" also.
Hill's "Heart" brave and lovely.......2002-07-06
OVERVIEW: Just when Amy Grant started singing secular pop and cavorting with models on VH1, Christian artist Kim Hill brought pop sensibilities to more religious-themed lyrics. With a voice that hints at Christine McVie and occasionally dark melodies that hint at Stevie Nicks, the commercial appeal of Hill's music was undeniable, and with lyrics that managed moral high ground while avoiding heavy-handed preachiness, "Brave Heart" was full of catchy potential pop hits that could have easily made dents in radio.
AT ITS BEST: The Beatlesque "Words" and the Southern Rock of "Satisfied" are about as slick and well-produced as you can get, and "She'll Come Around" smartly juxtaposes a hopeful lyric against a dark musical nuance that matches its subject's mood.
AT ITS WORST: The title track is somber without optimistic payoff and overstays its welcome at a length of over six minutes.
BOTTOM LINE: You don't have to be a holy-roller to appreciate Hill's well-intentioned lyrics, and its rock stylings aren't strong enough to alienate the born-again. "Brave Heart" is what "crossover" is all about.
Sonic and lyrical masterpiece.......2002-04-16
Hands down the best Christian album of 1991 and easily one of my "desert island" picks. There isn't a single weak track on this puppy. Brown Bannister and Wayne Kirkpatrick put Kim through the paces on "Brave Heart", stretching her beyond the mellifluous richness of her earlier work to a breathtakingly passionate tour de force. A panoply of sonic treats from heartbreaking ballads and hard-rocking stompers to gentle reflections and wistful worship make "Brave Heart" a must-have not only for Kim Hill fans but also for anyone serious about a mature faith.

Hill Takes the "Broken Things" of Life to the Divine Potter.......2007-03-02
Prime Cuts: Lover of My Soul, Just the Same, You Don't Belong Here
Age is not anything but a number. Kim Hill has taken such an adage and made it her coda as expressed throughout her 13th studio CD. Instead of mimicking her peers a la Sheila Walsh and Kathy Troccoli, who embraced middle age by recording quieter worship CDs or lullabies, Hill goes back to her roots by recording a Christian rock disc recalling her debut "Brave Heart." Part of the success of such an enterprising venture comes with the import of veteran producer Paul Ebersold (who has worked with Third Day and 3 Doors Down, acts noted for their raw rocking abandonment). But, such a rejuvenated foray does not mean that this project is by any means juvenile. Rather, its youthful grooves and snarling guitars mask lyrics that mine the depths of the theme of what the Lord can do with brokenness. Not only are the insights of Hill and her cohorts of writers (including Jill Philips, Kate Miner, Marc Byrd among others) perceptive but they are the outcome of an incisive and ruminative study of the Scriptures.
Unlike some Christian music products which whitewash reality into a spurious caricature, Hill takes life by the bull's horns. On "You Don't Belong Here," Hill tackles the touchy issue of divorce, a rare fleet in contemporary Christian music. Perhaps autobiographical in nature, considering Hill's recent divorce, this former Dove winner sings with panache over its brooding soft rock guitar driven melody. "Deeper," co-written by Nashville's stalwart writer Rodney Clawson (whose credits include Big and Rich, Gretchen Wilson and Shannon Brown), brings out a bucolic charm that we have not heard since Hill's country album "So Far So Good." Despite its roiling 80s-sounding drum beat, "A Million Pieces" is a stark confession of a woman who has no one to turn to but the Lord. Such a faith-filled abandon packs a big punch for all of us to surrender our pride to God.
Perhaps the most moving piece is Kate Miner's "Just the Same," a jut-jawed piano ballad that gives expression to the longing of our hearts: what can we do to please God? In child-like simplicity, Hill responds with a haunting appeal: "The lesson that I'm starting to learn/You just want my heart to return." Such transparency over a heart-tugging tune makes one wish that the album has more of such piano-ballads. Unfortunately, not all the songs are that stellar: Though "Shelter" is a pensive worship ballad, it does not bring anything new to the table. And a few others like the Bryan-Adams-esque "Here Inside of Me" and the choppy "Clean" border on average.
Nevertheless, "Broken Things" is a shoulder above the many rock-edged Christian records out there on two grounds. First, it comes from a 40-something who sings not just lyrics on a page, but this a seasoned rock chic who knows what she's singing. Second, Hill never eschews life's toils and tribulations, but in the knowledge of the promises of Scripture, she faces them squarely. And to this end, she triumphs. Not with canned answers, but Hill takes our broken things and lays them before the Potter; the only one who can take our brokenness and mend them again.
Broken Things by Kim Hill is a departure from her recent work and a return to an earlier sound.......2006-10-30
For nearly a decade Kim Hill has been involved in a series of worship recordings, beginning with Focus on the Family's Renewing the Heart series in 1998. Prior to a Christmas recording in 2004, her last release, 2003's Surrounded by Mercy was in the contemporary worship format that has become so popular.
Broken Things comes as a bit of surprise, though a welcome one, with a clean rock sound that hearkens back to her earlier days. Hill has always sounded good singing folk/rock, and this recording is no exception. Her voice is strong and right at home in this setting.
The lyrics speak in particular to women struggling with emotional issues, but anyone will be able to appreciate the hope and comfort offered in songs that alternate between adoration to God and stories and reflections on our broken condition. God's grace and goodness are a recurring theme, providing a welcome musical meditation. Fortunately, the music doesn't take a back seat to the lyrics.
I don't know if Hill has ever sounded better. What you get is a modern sound with classic rock influences. "A Million Pieces" includes the jangly guitar sound pioneered by Roger McGuinn, former lead guitarist of the Byrds. "Lover of My Soul" starts with a lone electric guitar reminiscent of the classic, "House of the Rising Sun," before Kim and then later the band join in. You can here shades of Crazy Horse, Neil Young's old band, on "Here Inside of Me." There's enough variation to keep it interesting and plenty of hooks.
For the most part, the backing consists of electric and acoustic guitars, bass and drums without too much production and adornment. Producer Paul Ebersold (Third Day, Sister Hazel, Three Doors Down) has done a wonderful job of blending new and old, electric and acoustic. One of the strongest songs is the beautiful piano ballad of "Just the Same," a Kate Miner song that ends the recording. This is nothing fancy--just a solid collection of songs that lean toward rock.
Hill deserves credit for taking a risk, when she could have come out with another contemporary worship recording that could have just been one among the many.
