Anyone who's seen Kirk Franklin live knows that he's a powerful entertainer and an animated gospel singer who brings the church and the word with him wherever he goes. Christmas is Franklin's testament to faith and a showcase for some of the finest gospel singers in the Family as they soar through standards such as "Silent Night" and "Go Tell It On The Mountain," along with less familiar fare such as "Now Behold the Lamb" and "They Need To Know Him." Franklin's no gospel purist, however, whether he's charging through a hymn or telling that "Jesus Is the Reason for the Season." He interjects R&B and bits of hip-hop phrasing and jazz into the works. All of it makes for a rousing good time, one that almost turns a studio recording into a live front-pew experience that few Christmas records even come close to delivering. These songs can make everyday Christmas .......2007-01-23

Form the first time I heard this CD. And heard many church choir doing "The Lamb of God". I knew that this CD would be a special one.
This CD is one that you should have in your collection. All of the songs on this CD, is worth having. From "Silent Night" to the last song "Silver & Gold - Remix" can be played each and every day. That is why I say, "These songs can make everyday Christmas" Give it a listen, and You'll see what I mean.

This is my favorite Christmas CD by far. I've had to buy it on 3 different occasions because it's enjoyed by so many in my family that it seems to always come up missing at the end of the holidays. The fact that I've been willing to buy it again and again is a testament to the power that radiates from the songs on this CD. The arrangement is imepeccable with mix of down home gospel as well as up tempo contemporary songs of praise, all the while keeping with the messages of the true meaning of Christmas. I will buy it again and again if I have to. Thank You Kirk Franklin and the Family for putting out a masterful, classic piece of work.

The best version of Silent Night on record.......2006-12-21

The first cut, Silent Night, is worth the price of the CD. I'm not a gospel music fan but I love about half the songs on this CD. Jesus is the Reason, O Come All Ye Faithful, The Night That Christ was Born and Silver and Gold are the other songs I like. Kirk Franklin and Family are a nice contrast to Robert Shaw Chorale during the holidays.

The Best.......2006-12-13

I have been hearing songs from this album for years and I finally got a copy of my own. As my boyfriend and I finished up our Thanksgiving by putting up the tree this CD set the mood. Once you pop this CD in it takes you to a place where you don't feel ashamed to praise Gods name. This CD lifts you up and really tells you about the real meaning of Christmas. This CD is powerful, one of Kirk and the Family's best (even though they are all good)! Whether it's 1996 or 2006 this CD is still one of the best Christmas albums ever!!!

Just popped this into the CD player.....Kirk just brings the funk into the gospel and keeps it real. This is my fave Christmas album...I was trying to decorate the tree and ended up praising Jesus.....I love love love this album

I love Kirk Franklin music. I have all of his CD's except both of the christmas 1997 and 1998. It's very good that he is keeping the younger generation off the streets with this new project he is doing. Now i see people that i thought would never sing gospel are now singing it. Magnificent ,dynamic, heartwarming, soul searching rendition.......1998-12-01

A calming, relaxing, humbling and soothing effect overcome me when I heard the music and the lyrics were so attached to the music I could not separate the two. This is the type of music I could sit to listen, applaud and encourage the public to buy and promote for all catagories of music lovers. The music has a mixture of all styles. It even enclothed music of baroque and centuries past. Like the greatest of musicians named, Kirk Franklin should be named among then also. He has and is a classy, classical, gospel, contemporary gospel, jazzy, RB and reserve style writer and musician. I gracefully bow like a lady to him and his family as well as all who helped him share his treasure of music with us of this age and time in our life. Our family loves the Crabb family singers. Not sure 'who' that person is that is writing negative comments on everything belonging to The Crabb family, but it has to be someone with an axe to grind and nothing to do with truly knowing who the Crabb Family is and enjoying Christian southern gospel music. The Crabb Family has truly blessed my husband and I with their spirit-filled music. My favorite song of all time is "Through the Fire".

To me, the Crabb family are a bunch of kids who found a way to make a fast buck! They figure that the Christian people are so stupid that they'll buy anything! The Crabb family wants your money, and it sounds like it too when they sing (they don't even sing well!) They can't hardly sing, the women in the group are extremely unactractive, my God, they wouldn't sell a damn thing in the secular industry! Get a life, and buy someone who cares about what they are singing and not just the MONEY! These Losers found a way to make a fast buck without working their a** off for it! SAVE YOUR MONEY and buy someone good like Karen Wheaton, Juanita Bynum, Karen Peck, Ralna English, etc.

Something Special Around Christmas.......2002-04-06

This is a really nice recording of the second in the Sander's Family Shows. I have seen them both, and the Sander's Family Christmas is better than the original Smoke On The Mountain which is also very good. It helps a lot if you have seen the show before listening to the music. The story line and the music are intertwined nicely and it makes more sense if you know what is going on, particulary with June Sanders, the eldest daughter. If you like American roots music (think O' Brother Where Art Thou) you will like this recording. If at all possible see the live show. When Family Christmas played in Cincinnati's Playhouse in the Park in 1999, they held it over past Christmas for a couple of weeks and still sold out every show. At the conclusion people who are normally pretty reserved were standing and cheering; it was that good. This recording is nice to save for the advent season to play along with your other Christmas music. It brings back a happy event and really brightens things up as you get ready for the Season.

The delightful Sanders Family has returned to entertain us once again! After the great success of Smoke on the Mountain, Alan Bailey and Connie Ray outdid themselves with Smoke on the Mountain II, A Sanders Family Christmas. Both plays are very humorous and tuneful, but the only commercial recording of the music in Smoke on the Mountain left much to be desired. That is emphatically not the case for this recording of A Sanders Family Christmas. Using at least some musicicans who have performed the show on stage, this recording captures the enthusiasm and drive of the songs, most of which are old standards with a couple of new (but old-sounding) songs by Alan Bailey. Although there are too many instruments used for this to sound exactly like the stage production, they are played so well they enhance the music greatly. A fine recording; easily worthy of five stars or more.
