Rockin' the Joint [DualDisc]

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
If one had told an Aerosmith fan in 1975 that three decades hence they'd be shelling out a handful of c-notes to see their heroes rocking a Las Vegas quasi-lounge, they'd have likely chuckled, slapped the headphones back over their greasy locks and cranked up Toys in the Attic for its 897th go ‘round. But here they are, American hard rock's greatest survivors, rockin', talkin' ‘n' walking an artistic tightrope at the Hard Rock Café's Joint between expected crotch-rock chestnuts (a blues-sassed "Same Old Song and Dance," a hard-charging "Draw the Line" and obligatory "Walk This Way") and their unlikely latter-day incarnation the MOR ballad-mongers of Diane Warren's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing." But if gritty takes on "No More No More" and the shadowy "Seasons of Wither" point up just how formulaic the band had become by the time of Just Push Play's "Light Inside," their snotty covers of "Big Ten Inch" and "Rattlesnake Shake," Fleetwood Mac's ‘60s ode to self-love, argue they're still 15 at heart – even if the focused performances here are obviously the product of grizzled veterans. The DVD program on this Dual Disc edition features live video takes of the album's "No More.." and "Draw the Line," as well as bonus performances of early band staples "Dream On" and "Sweet Emotion." --Jerry McCulley

1 out of 5 stars garbage!.......2007-02-26

don't waste your money on this. if you wanna buy an aerosmith live album, live! bootleg from '78 is the only one you'll need.

5 out of 5 stars AEROSMITH STILL BURN DOWN THE HOUSE.......2007-01-11

This Album has a great concert in Hard Rock Las Vegas, include classic songs of the band till the record Just Push Play, and it is a Dual disc, it means that has a the live songs in one side and a 4 presententations LIVE (in DVD format) in the other side, if you are a Aerosmit's Fan you MUST LISTEN THIS ALBUM

5 out of 5 stars GREAT!!!.......2006-04-27

Again, Aerosmith hasn't let us down. They continue to rock hard and put out awesome CDs! I highly recommend this as a "must have" for any Aerosmith fan!

5 out of 5 stars Aerosmith still kicks ass!.......2006-03-10

Aerosmith is the best band in the entire universe! When I looked at the set list, I was ecstatic to see "No More No More" and my all time personal favorite, "Seasons of Wither". I am surprised they released a live album so soon after "You gotta move". They already have Bootleg and Classics Live One and Two. But this is a great CD and DVD. At least since Pandora's Box, I have always wanted to hear "No More No More" live (I finally got my wish!). I think if "You gotta move" didn't prove that they're the greatest, then this should have done the trick! Rock On!

4 out of 5 stars They Still Sound Great.......2006-03-04

Aerosmith can still rock it after 30+ years. Steven Tyler and Joe Perry Sound better than ever. The only reason i give this 4 stars is because there are so many different CD variations that include all these bonus songs, so why not just but it on the CD. Even if it is two discs, include the bonus songs.

Long after their peers packed up their instruments and headed north, guitarist Big Jack Johnson, drummer Sam Carr, and keyboardist-harp player Frank Frost have remained firmly entrenched in the Mississippi Delta both in music and in life. This rollicking 1979 session was their first as the Jelly Roll Kings, but the telepathic interplay between the three had existed for decades. Their sound hearkens back to the untamed blues of Sun Records' early years as they channel everything from boogie-woogie to country blues through their pawn shop amps. What comes out of those amps is crude, naked juke-joint blues. Their impassioned version of Big Jay McNeely's "There's Something on Your Mind" sets the standard. With Carr's steady beat providing the momentum, Jackson's repeating guitar lines crackle, and his urgent Guitar Slim-styled vocals rise to meet the swirling notes of Frost's Farfisa organ. It's a great song on a highly recommended album. --Ken Hohman

5 out of 5 stars mistah whitford shines on this.......2007-02-25

this is the best aerosmith live album. in fact, it's the best live rock and roll album ever recorded. brad whitford leaves joe perry in the dust all over this record. of course, all true aerosmith fans have known for years that brad can play circles around joe.

3 out of 5 stars 3.5 Stars... Unnecessary live album with good moments.......2006-04-02

Aerosmith has released a number of live albums over the years, most recently the 2CD "A Little South of Sanity", and generally with mixed results. Somehow it has eluded the band to transfer the live experience (which is outstanding most of the time) onto CD.

"Rockin' the Joint" (11 tracks, 58 min.) was recorded in January, 2002 during the tour supporting the then-just released "Just Push Play" album. The opener from that album "Beyond Beautiful" also kicks off things here, and the band sounds as tight as ever. After that, the song selection focuses mostly on 1970s tunes, including "Same Old Song and Dance", "Draw the Line", "Walk This Way", "No More No More" and a really great "Rattlesnake Shake". The inclusion of "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" is a huge mistake, as it cuts the momentum midway through the album, and furthermore the song simply does not fit musically with the rest of the album.

"Rockin' the Joint" was released in October, 2005, without much fanfare, almost 3 years after being recorded, which begs the question: why now? While the band sounds tight and focused throughout, there is no overall theme or direction, and thus there is no real compelling reason for this live collection. Which leaves Aerosmith still looking for that ultimate live album release that has eluded them for so long.

5 out of 5 stars Aerosmith Does It Again!.......2005-12-06

The boys of Boston come together for a amazing live album. I have nearly everything that Aerosmith has put out and to be honest, this has to be one of the best. Good to hear some of the old tunes such as No More No More. Nice laid back sounding atmosphere of the Hard Rock. A must have for any Aerosmith fan!
