"EVERYBODY SEEMS TO BE READY...ARE WE READY?.......2007-07-11
From the opening introduction to the last guitar cord ringing to fade out this is the Stones best live album and one of the greatest live albums of all time. There is a great debate going on the Amazom review board about this album it seems. Some think this Stones live album is not as great as it's reputation. Stating out of tune guitars, mistakes ... blah, blah, blah. The Stones are the greatest "rock and roll" band! Rock and Roll is not about being perfect....is it? I know that some would name other bands that they consider able to "blow the Stones away live",but this is not a contest of who can play the fastest or hardest. The Stones are not known for being technically perfect musicians. They are tremendous songwriters and have written many of the greatest rock anthems in history! I am a musician and their playing ability is excellent, but it is their style and writing craft that sets them apart. Their sound is seemingly easy, but just try to duplicate it. The Stones have an amazing ability to take a 3 cord progression and turn it into something special. Musically Brown Sugar,Jumpin' Jack Flash, Honky Tonk Woman to name a few are nothing more than basic rock tunes in the hands of any other group. Yet I have never heard another group pull off an exact sounding cover of any of their songs. If I want to listen to incredible musicians I throw on a Rush album,if I want to rock I listen to the Stones. If there is another live album that comes close it might be Lynyrd Skynyrd's "One More From The Road" The boys are smokin' on that one surpassing every one of their studio counterparts, but the Stones have more classics on one album than they have in their entire recording history. So, give me " Get Yer Ya ya's Out" with all it's raw wild power, because it rocks like no other blemishes and all! If I have one complaint about this album, they should have released the complete show. Satisfaction,Gimme Shelter and Under My Thumb to name a few songs done on that tour could have been added and their are incredible versions available in the movie Gimme Shelter of the Satisfaction and Gimme Shelter.
Yes, it's that good..........2007-05-19
This is one of the best records the Stones have ever released. It is concise, powerful, intense, and brilliantly played. It is amazing how well Mick Taylor melds into the band, so recently added as he was by the time this tour started. I'm not convinced that the strict lead/rhythm method the band took on during his tenure is the best sound for the band. I think Brian Jones and/or Ron Wood weaving their guitars with Keith is better than Taylor's more constricting format, but this is still an excellent highlight for that unique stage in the Stones' history. I can't imagine Love In Vain ever done better than here with Taylor demonstrating his slide chops and his additions to Jumping Jack Flash, Midnight Rambler, Sympathy, and Street Fighting Man are excellent as well.
Furthermore, the band is truly scary on Midnight Rambler, Street Fighting Man is exhilirating and leaves you breathless, Sympathy is quite different than the studio version with good lead work by both guitarists, and Live With Me and the Chuck Berry covers are as rocking as any band ever gets (as well as being Keith Guitar School 101). There is simply not a dull moment or a bad song on this entire set.
As Keith pummels you with the opening hammer of Jumping Jack Flash just after Sam Cutler introduces the Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World, you may come to realize that this document is the evidence that proves his Beatle-bashing boast beyond any doubt.
Much better than Got Live.........2007-03-01
The first Stones Album, the first Live Album i ever bought was the first Stones Live Album and it was the first and only one i ever returned. I said the singing sucks and the playing is just damn awful. i was ready to give a whole list and fight to get my money back. Guess what? there was no argument, he agreed he said this was 'THE' album in the record section of Gimbel's Department Stores that has had the highest return to manufacturer at that time. I bought Ya-Ya's with a little please God let this be the one. It did not let me down. The Cover's and the Originals and singing plus Mick Taylor on Guitar was a corner stone to the album. I loved Brian Jones's work with the Stones and his betrayal was a key reason for the Stones sloppyness that was with them for a long time, included on their GLIYWI Album. Even though The Stones improved i still miss Brian Jones and his Musical Skills that made them hits. Can you imagine him on the Sitar and Mirimba at Concerts, today. Ya-Ya's Rocks, it did then, and in a Dinosaur Way, it still does.
My favorite Stones album.......2007-02-10
No question about it.
I could listen to The Rolling Stones covers of Chuck Berry's "Carol" and "Little Queenie" on this album
10 times a day every day for a year and never get sick of hearing'em.
"Midnight Rambler" played here is the definitive version of the tune.
The studio release pales in comparison.
The sleazy bluesy feel of "Rambler" captured on "Ya-Ya's" could never be duplicated in a recording studio.
The best part of this album though is in the first moments when a climactic energy seems to've gripped Madison Square Garden when the band is in the process of being introduced and taking the stage. You can practically feel the excitement and anticipation coming right thru your speakers from the crowd and the wild manner of the microphone announcements. It still brings chills to me imagining how that scene must've looked as it was playing out.
Again...my fave Stones record.A must have classic for your collection.
THIS IS THE REAL RAW ROLLING STONES IN THEIR PRIME! .......2006-12-02
I will be doing a review on the legendary masterpiece CD album entitled "GET YER YA-YA'S OUT," THE ROLLING STONES LIVE IN CONCERT by the band that has been called THE GREATEST ROCK N' ROLL BAND IN THE WORLD! This album was originally released in 1970 on vinyl and cassette on the London Records label affiliated with ABKCO Records. This album saw its debut on CD in 1986 and re-released again in 2002 with the Direct Stream Digital (DSD) encoding process bringing these Original Master Recordings TO LIFE! The matrix or ID number of the 1986 CD release is 80052. The 2002 CD release is 90052. If I find out any new information concerning this legendary album, I will edit this review so that you the consumer will get the best and most accurate review possible.
This live CD compilation highlights the Stones two (2) Madison Square Garden shows recorded on November 27 & 28, 1969. In my opinion, "GET YER YA-YA'S OUT" IS THE GREATEST LIVE ALBUM ever recorded by the stones and ONE OF THE GREATEST LIVE ALBUMS EVER RECORDED IN ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY. If you love the Blues and Hard Rock Blues, this album is DEFINITELY for you. This live album reminds me of all three (3) Parts of "Fleetwood Mac Live At The Boston Tea Party" recorded on February 5, 6 and 7, 1970. EVERY SINGLE SONG ON "GET YER YA-YA'S OUT" IS OUTSTANDING! I am going to list and briefly review every song track on this album to let you know just how GREAT this album REALLY IS!
All the songs in this album are my favorite and are in order as follows: (1.) "Jumpin' Jack Flash," (WHAT A WAY TO OPEN THE SHOW, THIS BLISTERING KILLER CLASSIC SONG DOES NOTHING BUT KICK SOME SERIOUS A*S!) (2.) "Carol," (THIS BLISTERING KILLER SONG KICKS A*S! A GREAT TRIBUTE TO CHUCK BERRY.) (3.) "Stray Cat Blues," (A BLISTERING KILLER SLOW BLUES SONG THAT KICKS A*S!) (4.) "Love In Vain," (ANOTHER BLISTERING KILLER SLOW BLUES SONG THAT KICKS A*S! A GREAT TRIBUTE TO BLUES GREAT ROBERT JOHNSON.) (5.) "Midnight Rambler," (WHAT A BLISTERING KILLER LIVE ROCKER! THIS SONG KICKS SOME SERIOUS A*S AND SHOWS NO MERCY! MY MOST FAVORITE SONG ON THE WHOLE ALBUM. THIS SONG ALONE SINGLE HANDEDLY DEFINED WHY THE STONES ARE THE GREATEST ROCK N' ROLL BAND IN THE WORLD.) (6.) "Sympathy For The Devil," (ANOTHER GREAT BLISTERING KILLER ROCKER THAT KICKS SOME SERIOUS A*S! THIS SONG IS MY CLOSE SECOND MOST FAVORITE SONG ON THIS ALBUM. THIS IS THE BEST LIVE RENDITION OF THIS SONG EVER RECORDED BY THE STONES.) (7.) "Live With Me," (ANOTHER GREAT BLISTERING KILLER ROCKER THAT KICKS SOME SERIOUS A*S! YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO THIS ONE.) (8.) "Little Queenie," (A GREAT BLISTERING HARD BLUES ROCKER DONE THE STONES WAY, OUTSTANDING! I'M SURE CHUCK BERRY IS PROUD OF THE STONES FOR THIS ONE!) (9.) "Honky Tonk Women" (THE STONES TURNED THIS SONG INTO A LIVE BLISTERING KILLER ROCKER! I LOVE THIS LIVE VERSION.) and (10.) "Street Fighting Man." (WHAT A WAY TO END THE SHOW! THE STONES TURNED THIS ROCKER INTO A REAL BLISTERING KILLER ROCKER THAT KICKS A*S) ALL THESE SONGS KICKED SOME SERIOUS A*S! I AM NOT EXAGGERATING! Guitarist Keith Richards and newcomer Mick Taylor (Formally from John Mayall who replaced the recently deceased original member and leader of the Stones, Brian Jones.) WERE ON FIRE WHILE PERFORMING AT BOTH MADISON SQUARE GARDEN SHOWS DURING THEIR LEGENDARY 1969 WORLD TOUR. According to Rolling Stone Magazine, the Stones 1969 World Tour was voted in the Top 20 as one of the GREATEST Tours of ALL TIME! It is just too bad that the Stones 1969 World Tour had to end so TRAGICALLY at ALTAMONT SPEEDWAY as we all know what happened on that fateful night.
In closing, This album is DEFINITELY worth buying and EVERY music fan should own this live album as part of his or her music collection. This live album is the Stones at their ABSOLUTE BEST and is a TRUE TESTAMENT of what was to come from the newly reformed Rolling Stones and Rock n' Roll. Today, The Rolling Stones continue to be the GREATEST LIVE ACT IN THE WORLD. THE ROLLING STONES ARE STILL THE GREATEST ROCK N' ROLL BAND IN THE WORLD! I know because I have seen every single tour since 1981 and will continue to see every tour in the future till the Stones are no more. Thanks for reading my long review and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it for all of you. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. LONG LIVE THE ROLLING STONES! LONG LIVE ROCK N' ROLL! Rock out always and take care. J.L.

Introduced at the beginning of their second live album as "the greatest rock & roll band in the world," the Stones come off instead as perhaps the world's sloppiest. Recorded at Madison Square Garden on the first dates of the 1969 tour that would end at Altamont, Ya-Ya's shows our heroes struggling manfully to get comfortable with a stadium-size PA system. Of the nine songs included here, only "Love in Vain," "Stray Cat Blues," and "Live with Me" come close to matching the fire of their studio versions; much of the time the band just sounds ragged and distracted. Still, given that it's the only official live document from the period in which Mick Taylor was the Stones' lead guitarist, Ya-Ya's is a must-own for any die-hard Stones fan. --Dan Epstein

When Rock & Roll was serious and I don't mean serious business!.......2006-06-30
I was fortunate enough to have seen The Stones on the 69 tour. Saw them @ The Inglewood Forum in LA. They were two hours late for the show but did they ever make up for it. Get Your Ya Ya's Out is a perfect history of the tour and of the era. The boys were definitely in great form and were playing like there was no tomorrow. The guitar solo in Sympathy For The Devil is one of the all time great solo's by anyone. Every time I get a new car, the first song I play is Sympathy from Get Your Ya Ya's out. I also have Liver Than You'll Ever Be and it is good. Especially Gimme Shelter (Waitin on you) and I'm Free. I only wish it was availabe on CD and cleaned up a little. The movie is great but not enough music. This is the album to have and to hold till death us do part.
It Could have been so Much More.......2006-06-11
I didn't know when my friends and I agreed to get to get together and review some Rolling Stones records, that this review would be a comparison of the record that came out officially and the one that didn't, but how could it be any other way. Because of who Tiffany's father is, we were all exposed to "LiveR Than You'll Ever Be," before we'd heard any other record by the Greatest Group on Earth. Heck, I don't think her dad ever played "Ya-Ya's,' which sounds more like a studio record in places than a live record. If you've ever heard the terrific job Phil Spector did with George Harrison's Bangla Desh show, especially the Dylan stuff, you'll know what I mean. Now that's a live record. Mr. Spector miked the audience and worked that applause right into the material. My God, you can't hear that record without feeling like you're right there, as if you're sitting in the front row. Well, "LiveR Than You'll Ever Be" is like that. It's just plain and simple gut wrenching, power pumping, get up and dance your kester off rock and roll. There never has been a record like "LiveR." Ya-Ya's is a pale imitation. The boys in the band must have known that back then, how could they have put this out? It's good, the Stones are always good, but it could have been so much more, "LiveR" proves that.
Just Frightening How Good this Band is.......2006-06-11
Oh Lord, I would have loved to have been in Madison Square Garden when this record was recorded. To see the way the guitars of Keith Richards and Mick Taylor danced together, that really would have been something. However, I missed the tour, probably because I hadn't been born yet, but still I can dream, can't I? And that's just what I try to do when I put this record on. I sit back, close my eyes and let the blistering "Jumpin' Jack Flash" wash over me. I always intend to listen to it this way, straight through, but by the second chorus of the song, I'm up and jumping around, just like Jack Flash. Is this record inferior to the bootleg? No, I don't think so. "LiveR Than You'll Ever Be" was recorded at the beginning of the tour. The record is great, the band is great, but by the time they got to New York, they were really, really on. I enjoy listening to the difference. And that difference is really pronounced in Chuck Berry's "Carol." You can hear how raw they are in Oakland and how polished in New York. The records are different, to be sure, but one is not better than the other, they are both five star live records and both belong in any serious record collection. The Stones Live, nobody ever has been or is now as great as they were and are. Did you see them at the Super Bowl, just frightening how good this band is, even still.
Come On Boys, Call this Back and Put out LiveR for Real.......2006-06-11
Like my friends, I have to agree, the bootleg "LiveR than You'll Ever Be," is a diamond, while "Get Yer Ya-Yas Out" is a lump of coal. That said, "Ya-Yas" is still a pretty good live record, it's just not great. If I were the Stones, I'd pull this record and do what my friend Tiffany Ann from Black Diamond Bay suggested and put out the Bootleg for real. Come on boys, why don't you do that?
Good, but the Bootleg was Great.......2006-06-10
I've heard is said that the Stones released this East Coast concert to counter the West Coast bootleg that was taking the rock world by storm. "LiveR Than You'll Ever Be," recorded surreptitiously during their two Oakland shows is not only much better than "Get Yer Ya Ya's Out", but it's probably the best live recording by any rock band ever issued. In fact it's one of the best rock and roll records ever issued and is certainly among the ten best Stones records to ever come out. I don't know why they put this out, because even they must have know the bootleg far out shown it. I know they didn't have tapes of the show, but come on, the bootleggers didn't own it. They Stones should have just made the best possible copy of the boot, using the state of the art equipment that existed back in the day and put the record out themselves. In fact, since the original bootleggers have given the tape to the guys in Europe who made the bootleg CD, they could copy it and put it out now. Just think, the Rolling Stones could issue the best live record to ever come down the pike and the bootleggers couldn't do a thing about it, but I don't guess they will and so, if you can't get a copy of "LiveR," than you'll have to live with the inferior "Ya-Ya's."

One of the Best Live Albums. Ever........2006-06-13
I don't know how anyone can reccomend a bootleg recording over this professional job. You can't even hear Charlie Watts' drums on LiveR! This album, on the other hand, is the real deal, and ranks up there with the Who's Live At Leeds as one of the greatest 60's live recordings ever. Of course it would be better if it were expanded to cover the entire set list of the 69 tour, but until then, we have to make due with what we have, and that is great rockin' performances of early prime stones' material. A killer performance of Sympathy for the Devil, A loose rockin' Midnight Rambler and a High Octane Jumpin' Jack Flash are the highlights here, along with Street Fighting Man. If you don't mind a crappy recording on a portable tape recorder, the bootleg is not bad, but there are far superior bootlegs from the Taylor era.

Like my friends, I have to agree, the bootleg "LiveR than You'll Ever Be," is a diamond, while "Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out" is a lump of coal. That said, "Ya-Ya's" is still a pretty good live record, it's just not great.
Just think, the Rolling Stones could issue the best live record to ever come down the pike and the bootleggers couldn't do a thing about it, but I don't guess they will and so, if you can't get a copy of "LiveR," than you'll have to live with the inferior "Ya-Yas.
