Fading like The Beatles on "Hey Jude.".......2007-05-16
Jeff Lynne is a master tunesmith who was always finding ways to expand his pop aspirations within his classical vision. The terrific prog-rock of "Fire On High" and the symphonic scope of "Eldorado" were just the preludes to the pop nuggets that surfaced on "A New World Record." I always considered this Lynne's most Beatlesque album, from the John Lennon style of "Mission" to the homage at the end of "Shangri-La," Lynne was realizing his rock and roll dreams.
This was also the ELO album that contained a rock classic, as Lynne resurrected "Do Ya" from his days with the move. Containing one of the greatest rock riffs every deployed from the radio, its timelessness is measured by the fact that it still shows up as an attention grabber for advertisements. (Yes, we boomers are getting old...) Along with that rock chestnut, there are also a pair of huge hit singles, "Living Thing" and the sublime "Telephone Line." "Telephone Line" even became the anchor for a Randy Newman satire on the band (on his CD, "Born Again"). It's also the moment that the flying ELO logo was introduced, an icon that is recognizable to this day.
To that end, this is a classic album from Electric Light Orchestra. The remastering may just be the best of all the ELO re-issues, since the older CD always sounded flat and muffled to these ears. Now the string pop and swirl like they never did before (or at least since my album was retired), and especially evident on the opening of "Tightrope." (I find little to recommend concerning the bonus tracks, however.) If this was one of your AM Radio guilty pleasures in the seventies or if (like me) you blasted this out of your car stereo through 76-77, you're going to have to reset "A New World Record."
Buy it, but not for the bonus tracks.......2007-03-02
This album is a masterpiece for anyone with both ears open to true beauty. Forget coolness--this ain't necessarily cool music. You may actually be embarrassed to tell others that you like ELO. But that's OK! Close the door, put on your headphones, and enjoy the rich guilty pleasures of A New World Record.
That being said, I was expecting a lot more from the bonus tracks. They're moderately interesting, but mostly amount to little more than the same tracks with the vocals subtracted. Granted, the way these great tunes were arranged is magical, but you can hear that with the vocals anyway. Where are the alternate mixes?
I have my doubts about "Surrender", the only unreleased track from the album. This sounds like it's been processed quite a bit in the studio; doesn't sound like 1976 to me. Not a standout track anyway.
Sound quality: great.
No home should be complete without it.
ELO's Answer To REVOLVER, Made Even Better Through Digital Remastering .......2007-02-22
Just as ELDORADO is ELO's SGT. PEPPER, FACE THE MUSIC their RUBBER SOUL, and OUT OF THE BLUE their WHITE ALBUM, A NEW WORLD RECORD is their REVOLVER. This album is a great blend of hard rock, pop, and classical, with highlights being "Livin' Thing", "Telephone Line", "So Fine", and "Do Ya"; however, there's other great stuff on this CD as well, and the bonus cuts help provide a window into the creative process behind ELO's best work.
5 stars isnt enough...how about all the stars in the sky for this masterpiece.......2007-02-08
Perfect pop...PERFECT..in every way. Still blows todays bands out of the water into thier peasant status where they belong. Because this is ELOS best record. And I can say that because I have heard every ELO release and this is by far thier best body of work. The songs are so good that as soon as they end you cant wait to hear them again..and again...and again.
If you are a fan of pop you cannot..I must stress this loud and clear..YOU CANNOT BUY A BETTER ALBUM IN THE GENRE THAN THIS RECORD...so dont think...just buy..hit the add to cart button. Oh and the new tracks added are all awesome. Espeically Surrender...YOUR STILL READING?? Your missing out..click add to cart.
A CLASSIC RECORD.......2007-01-27
This a great masterpiece from ELO. Great song writing, great sound, it's just fantastic! I love listening to this and with the great re-mastering, so wonderful! This is the album that really cemented the ELO sound and made the world take notice how such a great sounding, original band, like no other then or since, ELO really is. That's why I love listening to them so much. I highly recommend this re-mastered cd!
Highlights: "TIGHTROPE","TELEPHONE LINE","SO FINE","LIVIN' THING","ABOVE THE CLOUDS" and the bonus "SURRENDER"

Outstanding effort!.......2007-05-28
E.L.O. was at this point in their career, a band in transition. Having been born as an intelligent pop band called The Move, E.L.O. had veered sharply into progressive rock in the early 1970's and had some moderate success with their marriage of classical music stylings (complete with a permanent string section) and epic style rock production. After their return to commercial success with 1974's "Eldorado", they found even greater success with 1975's "Face The Music", which produced two of their signature songs, "Evil Woman" and "Strange Magic". In the face of such success, E.L.O. was on the brink of either selling out or reaching its' greatest heights. And...they chose the greatest heights.
The opening track, "Tightrope", was a journey through their career to date ("They say some days you're gonna win/They say some days you're gonna lose")and featured a perfect marriage of synthesizer blues rock married with their most energetic string section yet. It's a killer track, perhaps the moment when everything really came together for the band...the pristine moment when their progressive leanings were still vibrant, yet was now manifesting itself as something accessible to the masses.
"Telephone Line", the biggest hit from the album, is a soaring power ballad that uses some neat sonic tricks (for the 1970's) but puts on a lyrical twist that was ahead of its time (Telephone Line/Give me some time/I'm living in twilight). "Rockaria!" is a manic romp about a city going wild for rock and roll, which is on one side epic silliness, and on the other, an ear to ear grin for everything fun about rock and roll. The album is filled with progressive pop music, a forerunner of many new wave stylings that would become all the rage within 5 years, on songs like "So Fine", "Livin' Thing" and "Shangri-La"..and they even dust off an old Move song, "Do Ya", a psychedelic rocker that fits perfectly in the transitional style of this album.
Considering how easy it is to identify an E.L.O. song, it seems almost laughable to suggest that one of their albums would see them dabbling in many different styles. But that's just what they do on "A New World Record", showing the rock and blues roots, the progressive influence, and finally veering into the cutting edge of modern pop. All in all...a masterpiece of the seventies.
The Best.......2007-01-31
If It Was Me On A Desert Island. This And Brad Pitt Would Be Heaven. I wore out my record stylus playing it in the 70's while in high school. Everything said about 70's music does not apply to ELO. I was there and this was a revelation.
Perfect Perfect Perfect
Best of ELO .......2006-08-29
Basically, ANWR is the best of ELO in my opinion. I think so because it's a balance between the early ELO that many fans love and then the more "commercial" ELO of later years that another faction of ELO fans love so much.
Every song is a gem, nothing is filler and it's beautifully crafted by all involved. One of the best albums of the 70s in my opinion
And, oooooooooooooooooooh! And my sweet desire for the ultimate livin' thing-- E.L.O!!.......2006-07-08
First, I want to start off by saying that this is probably one of the greatest albums that has ever been released in all of music history. Every last song is fantastic. Second, I have to also mention that if you like the Beach Boys and Pink Floyd, then you will absolutely love this album. It is practically a combination of the two. Particularly is this evident on their smash hit "Livin' Thing"--which interestly compares surfing to falling in love. A wonderful mixture of Beach Boys lyrics and Pink Floyd spaciness. What I particularly enjoy about this album is that every song with its "air-filled" sound makes you feel like your at Venice Beach on a bright, sunny day. This will take you back to the days when music was REALLY music, and it didn't have degrading lyrics like "pimp", "booty", or "hoe". So, I encourage anyone who has never heard ELO before, definately give this album a try. Even though it is a product of the 70's, you will still enjoy it.
Electric Light Orchestra.......2006-04-23
This is a great Electric Light Orchestra album and hardly needs another 5-star review but there is one thing I want to say, especially to Amazon.
The name of the band is not E.L.O. It's Electric Light Orchestra. Amazon has deleted all their Electric Light Orchestra band listings and replaced them with E.L.O. which, while it is a common one, is just an abbreviation for the band's name.
It makes sense for a search for E.L.O. to be redirected to Electric Light Orchestra. It does not make sense for searches for Electric Light Orchestra to be redirected to E.L.O.

Lilting, Lovely, Inviting and Hopeful.......2007-05-06
I was introduced to this artist through the work of Don Miguel Ruiz. I love his message and the hopeful honesty that peppers his work. I figured if he endorsed it, it would be worth trying out. OMG... nothing prepared me for the sheer quality in Cari Cole's voice and the inviting sound of her music. Not only is the message something I enjoy hearing in each song, but it is music I really look forward to putting on the CD and being taken on a journey. Incredible voice. Inviting music. Hopeful Message!
Very inspired - Eloquent.......2007-02-07
Cari has captured some of our common experience in this recording. Beautiful words and harmonies. As I continue to listen, I continue to appreciate. Several speak to my soul with reminders like, "I will respect my body" and other affirmations which reinforce loving our Selves. Always gold to be found and appreciated in Cari's creativity.
Beautiful.......2007-01-08
Cari Cole is uplifting and inspiring. Her music is a wonderful way to relax and be at peace. Cari has a beautiful voice that just empowers the words she sings so gracefully.
A Voice of Heaven.......2004-11-08
This is absolutely a piece of jewel to keep. I do not understand why our pop culture do not play the music in regular radio channels (well, maybe I just have not listened to the radio enough). The songs Cari Cole sing in this album is something you enjoy when you re-listen. Cari Cole truly has a beautiful voice. For some people, singing the prayers sometimes help them experience the words in a more powerful way because it involves more senses. This album truly helps us to experience love and peace.
My favorites are "Whenever the Time is Now", "The Circle of Fire Prayer" and "The Lord's Prayer", though all others are wonderful as well. All songs are mellow yet suthing.
For "Whenever the Time is Now", I especially like the part about "Whoever you are is enough, Whatever you have is perfection, Whoever you are with is the one". These are the words we need to be reminded when turbulent times come when we always need to have more and better. For "The Circle of Fire", I will always remember the four words we want to bear in mind, which is gratitude, love, loyalty and justice... and these words begin with us.
Some songs are beautiful in melodies but not in words. However, these 10 songs are beautiful in melodies and artistic in words. May you experience love and peace while listening to this CD as well?
DANCE YOUR WAY TO LOVE , HEALING, CELEBRATION.......2004-06-18
Both Cari's voice and the instruments on this CD are pure and powerful- shamanic,religious,sweet,heart-opening and healing - combined with the beautiful healing messages of Don Miguel Ruiz. Will be using this CD for dance events and healing workshops. Here in Brazil, paid $10 customs fee on top of price for CD. That hurt until I listened - I would pay $300 for this CD if I had to! Product Description
Sweet Seraphic Fire brings together two unique bodies of American sacred song: choral compositions from the New England singing-school tradition and the most popular Evangelical Protestant hymn texts in historic American use. In the late eighteenth century the New England singing-school movement produced America's first great sacred-music style, employing several genres of unaccompanied four-part choral compositions with the melody in the lead (tenor) part. The enormous popularity of singing-school music also promoted a canon of hymn texts shared across America's competing Evangelical Protestant denominations. This recording contains neglected masterworks from the New England singing school that also helped to create the American hymn canon. Marking a more recent turn in this process, we have also included some new settings of traditional Evangelical lyrics written by leaders in the revival of singing-school music that has blossomed in the Northeast since 1976. ! Selection of pieces for this recording was determined by correlating "The Norumbega Harmony"--our collection of one hundred six historic New England singing-school compositions and thirty contemporary works in traditional style--with a list of the three hundred most frequently printed hymn texts in America from 1737 to 1960. --Stephen Marini

Fantastic!!!!!!.......2006-03-15
This is a REALLY cool album of shape-note singings, I particurlarly like EVERY STRING AWAKE and ANTHEM FOR EASTER.
Some of the songs are kind of dreary, (Hatfield) but all in all this is COOL!!!

Customer Reviews:
i'd rather give it a 4.5.......2004-08-04
...but all the same, this is the best album by perhaps the most unfairly neglected alternative rock band of the 90s. i've long been a fan of poster children; they were a big band in my highschool circle of friends. this is their most organic album, immediately following two very technological, synthesizer-laden albums, and the pure sound suits them. the best part is, of course, that they let their drummer go. just let him take off, after having to stick very close to the beat and keep it simple for so long, he lays it all out here, loose and funky. sounds wonderful, it does...he even works in a tasteful solo. i can't really think of a band that sounds exactly like the poster children...so i won't try that route. but if you ever find this in the used bin or the bargain bin--this, or _international: rtfm_ or _junior citizen_ for that matter--buy it immediately.
The Poster Kids' Return To Indie.......2004-02-06
But forget all the stigma. This isn't Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and this isn't Liz Phair's self titled (which is awful). This is a very strong, melodic, wonderful offering from Champaign's own disciples of the new wave. If it hadn't been played out in all the other reviews, you wouldn't even know the production values had shifted from Warner Brothers/Sire to DIY, and it's a testament to the strength of this band (which later regretted signing to a major label) that they haven't released a bad album since.
i keep coming back to this one.......2001-11-22
I love all the Poster Kids records, but New World Record is the one I keep coming back to over and over. The album just has the best hooks, and guitar playing.
Enlightenment.......2000-10-05
The reviewer from Rantoul is a tonedeaf simpleton. Yet, that goes with being from a intellectual anthill like Rantoul! New World Order is a groundbreaking disc that introduces to the alternative scene a "BIG-BANG" sound seemingly created by 2001's HAL. Poster Children have yet to create an album that isn't fiercely original and unique. All of my fellow 1994/1995 Il. grads from the Daniel street Whitehouse agree that New World Order is simply "ballsy!" I enjoy turning it up so loud that Rose's bassline rattles my windows. Buy this disc and commence a relationship with a band that will infuse your stagnant arteries with an energy equal to Godzilla's last meal!
Tool of the mess.......2000-01-03
... quite possibly the worst record of 1999, considering the Poster Kids degeneration and their ability to somehow lower the bar with this ambitionless dreck. I'd refrain from listening to this one even while hiding under the bed with headphones - for fear the Taste Police will revoke my membership in the People With Functioning Brain/Ear Connections Club. Has the fallout from Albini's Daisychain With More Bass! Less Vocals! Reaction really prompted a casting call for a carnival barker to mumble through "Ankh?" Devo would be embarassed - heck, Mr. Bungle would be redfaced if subjected to New World Record's mark for abusive eclecticism. Poster Kids: Thank you for trying something new, but please try something else ... Tropicalia, explosive! Latin pop, perhaps. Find bonbons to shake. Leave the passionless-drivel soundtracks to the professionals.

Album Description
The inspiration from this instrumental CD comes from many different venues: simple rythem, lush synth sounds, life's experiences, musical preferences, and even one's private moments-be they happy, sad or simply reflective.
The music on this CD was inspired by each of these nuances. The mood of this CD is to entwine various styles of music.
These tone poems were written in hopes that my listeners will share the same feelings similar to those which inspired me to write them.

AmIBLACK?!?!.......2001-11-03
Maybe not, but in the world of brilliant music this cd makes the grade. It is so shiny and round, and the picture on the cover is such fine art. In the cd, though, is the music and it is even better than the cd case...which is made from such fine plastic! The music is fun and happy. Its also sad and mean. Sometimes it can be nice though. I love it. I would buy it if I could. I cant though since I'm very poor. Will you please buy this for me?! I need it, I am so deprived. Im addicted to this band. But I've still heard it. It is very cool. It is good stuff, this music. Music is fun, and this cd is music! (PS_While you're at it will you please buy some of my cds? My record sales are down which is why I am so poor! Thank you!)
PURE GENIUS!!!!!.......2001-10-28
This is like the greatest cd. It fits every mood and is relaxing yet exciting! I would buy it even if it cost over $1000! That is just how much I love it. Take my word, this is the greatest thing ever created since sliced bread! Do you like pop? Of course not, so you'll love this! Do you like rock, rap, or gangsta? Well, this cd has a little of everything! (If you don't like rock, rap, or gangsta, but you love pop then it has that, too!) Oh ya! It's also got some techno! That is just how great the cd is. FAB-U-LOUS! Manfred (the guy who created the cd...band) is so hot, too! The bassist rocks as well (and is a happenin daddy...literally!)

Romance! Music! Comedy! And ELLEN FOLEY!.......2000-02-02
Live stage shows are an art form much overlooked in America; so finding this CD was a wonderful surprise, as it allowed me to enjoy something I wouldn't otherwise ever have a chance to see: a play starring my favorite actress, ELLEN FOLEY! I've always been more impressed with her acting (NIGHT COURT) than her singing (BAT OUT OF HELL) and this CD contains more of her presence and personality than any record I've heard her on! It's mainly the story of a woman who has 2 encounters with a man who, while he comes across as optimistic and uplifting on the surface, is really a self-destructive personality with problems of his OWN! (I could probably relate because I've met the type!) Highly entertaining; highly recommended! (Now if only someone would reissue her solo album, NIGHTOUT; or get her to do a new album... we can hope, right?)

You MUST hear this album (and buy it!).......2003-10-18
Erika Luckett delivers an amazing performance on "The New Orleans Sessions" Her style and delivery are like no one else. Tracks that definitely need to be played repeatedly include "Kindness," "Blossom" "Between The Lines," "Not A Love Song" and her cover of "Will you Still Love Me Tomorrow?"
The best thing about this album is that it captures the energy of her live performances. I would definitely recommend this album to anyone who enjoys strong female vocals, great songwriting, and smooth guitar playing!
