Rod Stewart - Greatest Hits

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
It's been said that no one sold out his talent like Rod Stewart, who began his career singing Sam Cooke numbers in a way that would have impressed Sam Cooke's mother. But Stewart has always been a pop animal no matter how soulful his chops and he's often at his best when primping in front of the microphone trying to make himself sound pretty. "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" may seem ridiculous, but it's five-plus minutes of melodramatic tension, caught between self-love and self-parody. "I Was Only Joking" is Rod's warning to the world that "Hot Legs" and its ilk will soon be his modus operandi. "I Don't Want to Talk About It" and "You're in My Heart" are as sincere as he gets. --Rob O'Connor

5 out of 5 stars ONE OF ROD THE MOD'S GREATEST COMPILATION ALBUMS EVER........2007-05-07

Before I begin my review, I would like to wish a very Happy 10th Birthday to my nephew in Yuba City, California whose name is Alan John Schmidt. I love you and miss you lots AJ, I'll be seeing you soon. Love always, Your Uncle John and Grandpa Johnny Sr.

I will be writing a review on the legendary compilation album entitled "ROD STEWART GREATEST HITS" by one of Rock's all-time greatest artists ever. I give you one of Scotland's and England's pride and joy's and one of Britain's favorite sons, M-R. R-O-D S-T-E-W-A-R-T! "ROD STEWART GREATEST HITS" was originally released in 1979 on Vinyl/LP and Cassette on the Warner Brothers Records Inc. label which is a Warner Communications Company. This legendary compilation album would be released on Compact Disc in the mid to late 80's. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary album or the artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the overall best informative and most accurate review possible.

ROD STEWART will forever go down in Rock n' Roll history and be remembered for NOT SELLING OUT, but for recording some of Rock's most sacred classic anthems ever. ROD STEWART will also be remembered for having and containing the ultimate Rock n' Roller's voice. And just think, when ROD the mod started out, he was so nervous that he would sing on stage with his back facing the crowd. ROD the mod would be the lead singer in two of Rock's greatest bands ever before moving on into an extremely successful solo career, THE JEFF BECK GROUP and THE FACES. Through the years, ROD STEWART would record many great solo albums and numerous hit songs to highly critically acclaim. Which brings me to the legendary compilation album I'm about to review for you today. "ROD STEWART GREATEST HITS" would be the result of his many greatest hits in the 1970's. The "GREATEST HITS" album would also serve and symbolize the recognition of the many great contributions, accomplishments and achievements in STEWART'S career. In my opinion, "ROD STEWART GREATEST HITS" is without a doubt, a true testament of the sheer genius and musical creativity of a very extremely talented individual. "ROD STEWART GREATEST HITS" is also a fine fitting tribute to a great artist this is truly indeed, far ahead of his time.

It is now time to let the Rock n' Roll music of ROD STEWART to speak for itself and back it up by doing all of the talking musically. "ROD STEWART GREATEST HITS" begins with the blistering hard Rock anthem dedicated to the many beautiful women the world over with beautiful legs, "Hot Legs," the forever ROD STEWART trademark acoustic and mandolin filled Rock anthem "Maggie May," the forever Disco hard Rock anthem "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?," the beautifully slow and smooth acoustic Rock anthem "You're In My Heart (The Final Acclaim)," the beautifully slow and soothing mild Rock anthem "Sailing," the beautifully slow acoustic Rock anthem "I Don't Want To Talk About It," the forever ROD STEWART trademark acoustic Rock anthem dedicated to all of the beautiful virgin women the world over, "Tonight's The Night," the beautifully slow acoustic Rock anthem "The Killing Of Georgie (Part I and II)," the beautifully slow and legendary acoustic Rock anthem that pretty much says it all, "The First Cut Is The Deepest" and the beautifully slow acoustic Rocker "I Was Only Joking." May I also add that ROD the mod's blistering Rockin' lead vocals were sizzlin' and burning red hot while laying down the tracks for all of these legendary Rock anthems. THE ULTIMATE ROCK VOICE INDEED.

Overall, this is is one hell of a greatest hits compilation album worth checking out and seeking further research and information into especially if you are a hardcore diehard ROD STEWART fan or a devout music collector. As for all of the curious newcomers and new beginners that are not quite familiar with the sound and music of ROD STEWART, this greatest hits compilation album is not a bad place to start. However, there are many other ROD STEWART greatest hits compilation albums that you might want to research further into before you make your final decision as to which album(s) is right for your musical needs and tastes. Either way you choose, you will have taken a giant step in owning and starting your very own personal ROD STEWART music collection. You can do all of your researching and album purchases either on Amazon com or at your nearest local Borders Books and Music store. If you ever get a chance, buy this album. You'll be happy and satisfied that you did.

I would like to highly recommend purchasing this legendary compilation album to own as a valuable and important part of his or her own personal music collection. This legendary treasure album has already proven to stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER. This is one great legendary compilation album that no hardcore music fan or devout music collector would want to be without.

In closing, ROD STEWART has successfully continued in recording more great albums and embarking on new World Tours to sell-out audiences the world over to promote them to highly critically acclaim up to this very day. Knowing this, I guess it is safe to say that ROD STEWART isn't going anywhere anytime soon. There will also be new stories in the ROD STEWART legend that will still need to be told and written. But that, my fellow readers and reviewers, you will just have to stay tuned to your computers and read further more about it at a later date in the near future. With this in mind, ROD STEWART has forever left his place and mark in Rock n' Roll history and will never be forgotten. So here's to you Rod. Thanks for the many great memories with many more still to come. Keep Persevering. Keep The Faith. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," need I say more? Thanks for reading my review and I truly hope that you have enjoyed reading it as much as I have truly enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also deeply hope that all of you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. ROD STEWART RULES! Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever in Rock, John L.

2 out of 5 stars Okay, WHY did they emphasize Rod's "Self-Parody" Period?.......2006-12-19

The only reasonable song here is Maggie May. Rod made some good stuff back in The Day, but you wouldn't hear much of it here. Where's... oh, I don't know... Gasoline Alley? Hm... what about Handbags and Gladrags? You Wear it Well? Every Picture Tells a Story? Mandolin Wind? Twistin' the Night Away? I'm Losing You? True Blue? That's All Right? It's All Over Now? And why, in their place, are Rod's self-parody hits such as Do Ya Think I'm Sexy? (I puke when I hear that song), You're In My Heart, The First Cut is the Deepest, and Tonight's the Night? SENSE IS NOT BEING MADE HERE, PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars just love that rod.......2006-03-27

this is a great album. i actually wore out my first copy of this cd and had to buy a new one.

1 out of 5 stars Looking for a couple of favorites? This might be the CD for you!.......2006-03-11

I suppose if you are on a budget and are only looking for one or two songs you might be able to justify spending a dollar and the cost of shipping to purchase this CD. Fans of Rod's early material might want to seek out the Mercury Anthology.

3 out of 5 stars Rod the mod........2006-01-22

At this point, there are numerous collections out of Rod Stewart. This original "Greatest Hits" has alot of the good stuff, but since it was a vinyl era release, we only get 10 tracks. Even twice the number of songs would still be the basics. This disc also needs remastering desperately. It plays much quieter than most of my other CDs. I wont even begin to mention what's missing here, I'll just say that the most casual fan would still enjoy this. Anyone else should look into "The Very Best Of", or even the "Downtown Train" collection.

5 out of 5 stars Sounds GREAT..........2006-11-16

I am going to review many Time-Life items that I have purchased over the years - Sounds of the 70's, Sounds of the 70's (Take Two), Legends of Rock & Roll, numerous 60's CDs & 50's CDs. The recordings are excellent and I know all the tunes - most have at least 18 songs. I would recommend any of Time-Life's compilations to anyone, who is looking for a great CD with alot of songs, we all know. The only complaint I have is that the CDs should have been maximized on the 50's & 60's selections. All in all, a very good purchase...
