This CD sounds so great and it has the original cover so that makes it even better. KISS really is excellent on this one.

5 out of 5 stars The Heaviest Kiss Album.......2007-06-02

This record kicks major major butt. I'll always remember the video for "I Love it Loud". Eric Carr's drums are unbelieveable on this record. This record still did not sell well because Kiss wasn't cool in 1982. This album has grown by legend since it came out. It will always be remembered as the last make-up album (until Psycho Circus). But all of the attention is warrented because this record IS that good. The lyrical content is somehow cooler and more serious than ever before. "Saint and Sinner", "War MAchine" - these songs sound like Kiss, but like Kiss on steroids. The title track from Paul is great...the whole thing is great. I just get depressed over it because later we found out that Ace didn't really play on it and it was to be his last record until the reunion. This will also always be one of my favorite album covers. On the Rock the Nation tour, they finally played "War Machine" again and it really rocked. I only wish they would have continued to make albums that sounded like this one in the 80s, but it wasn't to be.

This is easily KISS's best studio album, ever. It is obvious who they are showcasing here.........ERIC CARR! Precise, intricate, thunderous drumming. From the "Immigrant Song" influenced "Creatures of the Night", to the simultaneously played bass drums on "I Love It Loud". There are no fillers. And yes, Ace is not on the album. But the session players
captured Ace's groove. Even Vinnie is holding back. Ever listen to his (Vinnie's) soloing on his Invasion albums? He sounds like a madman hyped up on caffiene. Not on this album however. All the solo's are tastefully executed. It just might be Ace. Just stare at that great album cover and think of the glory days. It is Ace.

The production is second to none. Thick, heavy, ambient drums. Like your playing in an empty gymnasium. THUNDER GOD! Who wouldn't want that! That is, if your into heavy, hard rock. Peter Criss could have never pulled this off.

I consider myself a Kiss fan through thick n' thin (at least up to Crazy Nights). Whether it's the poppy melodies of Unmasked,or the concept album, Music From The Elder, Creatures is by far their most sonically sound endeavor.

This is definitely the powerhouse album Kiss wanted. From the opening of "Creatures..." to the final chords of "War Machine" it is obvious this was a very focused and well produced album by a band on a mission. Not one weak link in this line up. I think that this was also the real unveiling on Eric Carr to the world as to how much of a dynamo he was behind the drums. He does play on 'The Elder', but he really is unleashed on this one. His drumming dominates the album, and in a way that does not overshadow or drown out the rest of the band. As far as the guitar playing goes you really won't miss Ace. He'll always be the original and considered their best, but on this album the session players(to include Vinnie Vincent) greatly filled the void left by Ace's departure.
The heavy style of playing would be continued on their next album, 'Lick It Up' and would reemerge on 1992's 'Revenge'. Unfortunately, for the latter, Eric Carr would not be around to perform due to his passing, from cancer, in 1991.
This album ranks as my #1 Kiss record.

5 out of 5 stars KISS Was Back In Action!.......2006-11-10

This was KISS' last studio album with makeup for quite some time. Even though Ace Frehley is pictured on the album cover, he didn't contribute anything to the album. The two lead guitarists on this album are Bob Kulick and Vincent Cusano (Vinnie Vincent). They both did excellent work, and Vincent even wrote on the album. The album only has nine tracks, but all of them ROCK! Listen to all of them, and be prepared to be blown away.

Anytime I want to turn anybody on to Tom Scott, this is the album I play first. It's broad, almost a jazz sampler with everything from mainstream (snarly-snazzy sax) to experimental, with solid stops at latin and bebop. The album is very well engineered -- punchy and clear. Vocals on the album are superb. I can't recommend this album highly enough -- definitely the best first Tom Scott album for any growing jazz collection!

Now that Decca and Deutsche Grammophon, among others, are all part of Universal, we have seen some interesting things happen, and not all of them bad. What I'm referring to in this case is the new "Original Masters" Limited Edition Box Set series. Finally, the classical music world has taken a page out of the jazz reissue handbook -- put out a quality product featuring rare recordings but make its availability limited, and people will snatch it up. In the "Original Masters" series, first DG and now Decca have each reissued five box sets, of 4 to 7 CDs each, in distinguished, space-saving slim paper boxes, though the style of packaging is different. The DG sets feature 50s style graphics design on their covers, while the Decca ones have a distinctive rainbow/spectrum pattern on the spines and banners, and a black-and-white photo of the artist in question on the face of the box.

This particular set features the great conductor Eduard van Beinum's Decca recordings from 1948-53. As the track information is non-existent above, I will try to be of assistance. The first disc contains Beethoven's "Creatures of Prometheus" with the London Philharmonic (LPO) from 1952, and Brahms' 1st Symphony with the Concertgebouw (RCO) from 1951. Disc two is all Berlioz with the Concertgebouw from '51 & '52 -- "Symphonie Fantastique," "Le Carnival Romain" Overture and three extracts from "La Damnation de Faust." Disc three begins with Bartok's "Concerto for Orchestra" (RCO, 1948) and then sees Beinum conducting less standard fare with Willem Pijper's "Symphony No. 3" with Clifford Curzon joining in on piano obbligato (RCO, 1953), and Incidental Music from Alphons Diepenbrock's "Marysas (La Source Enchantee)." CD Four returns to the standard repertoire with Mozart's "Haffner" Symphony (LPO, 1950), Schubert's "Die Zauberharfe" (or Rosamunde) Overture and "Tragic" Symphony (both RCO, 1952), and Mendelssohn's Overture and Incidental Music to "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (RCO, 1952). The final disc concludes with four Rossini Overtures (RCO, 1952) -- "William Tell," "La Scala," "Semiramide" and "La Gazza Ladra"-- and Lalo's "Symphonie Espagnole" (LPO, 1953). Despite the fact that all of these recordings are in mono, the first rate performances more than compensate for any audio shortcomings. Well, I guess the consolidation of the music industry isn't so bad after all, as long as I can look forward to more reissues like this.

            I bought this Cd while visiting New Zealand and it was the best $10 i spent the whole time. Particularly the Creatures of the night song by Screaming Dead which is IMPOSSIBLE to find anywhere else. If you love gothic rock, horrorpunk, or even psychobilly, get this NOW!
