5 out of 5 stars IIF ROCK could only be HALF AS GOOD AS THIS now!!!!!!!.......2007-06-05

This CD ROCKS! VERY UNDER RATED and a VERY FUN RELEASE.I guess you had to be there when it came out.PLAY IT LOUD! I'm sorry...but ALICE pretty much bit the dust(in my eyes anyway) when the ORIGINAL Band broke up.Except for the SPECIAL FORCES LP/CD...No other (Alice) band could ever capture that early magic.

3 out of 5 stars Not a water stain!.......2007-03-27

Ummmmmnh, how do I put this delicately: The original cardboard sleeve DIDN'T have a fake water stain...it had a fake bodily fluid stain. Think about what the corrugated cardboard box said: "This carton contains one (1) Alice Cooper Muscle Of Love". To what part of the male anatomy do you think it is refering to? 'Nuff said. LOL!

FWIW, I missed the obvious references when this was a new LP and I saw/heard it for the first time...I was 10yrs. old, however. "Oh, this has to go back to the store, it was laying in water!". No, no, it's SUPPOSED to be that way", LOL!

This is a weird, uneven album...just like Vince Furnier, LOL! Seriously, it's the last hurrah of the original AC band line-up (R.I.P., Glen). Led Zep's Coda was/is an appropos analogy. Enjoy it for what it is...the rest of what's left. Hopefully, this (as well as "Killer", "LITD" and "School's Out") will be re-issued as a Rhino remaster and given the deluxe treatment it deserves. Meanwhile, I still bought 'em all and am enjoying them immensely on my iPod. I'lL definitely buy the remasters as well, if and when they are released.

Takes me back to 1973 when I loved this stuff and it pissed my parents off! I still love it and would bet it'd still irk my parents as well, LOL!

Enjoy!

3 out of 5 stars 3.5 is about right.......2007-01-05

I don't know, the band lost the flavor here. They were tired and ideas were running out as Ezrin didn't even produce and Buxton was virtually invisible on guitar. Some songs are great but some are just boring and too far off for Alice Cooper, too non-Cooper,too soundtrack-type material.

Having said this,it's sad that it came to this album, the end the original Alice Cooper band lineup. Maybe it was time,it's just a dying shame they didn't get back after "AC Goes to Hell",that's when Alice Cooper ,the man, lost his edge in" Lace and Whiskey"

3 out of 5 stars The End Was Near............2006-12-11

We go from the original band's strongest album to one of their weakest. I am not sure what the whole story is surrounding this disc. It was the last to feature the original Alice Cooper band before Alice split for a solo career. The band was breaking up and Bob Ezrin had fled the scene which makes "Muscle" an uneven although not bad disc. The album is not really a concept piece, but seems to revolve around the theme of New York City and sex. All of the songs seem to deal with these two subjects with the exception of the would be James Bond theme "Man With The Golden Gun". The album had a couple of minor hits with the title track and "Teenage Lament 74" both of which are ok songs, but nothing spectacular. The rest of the album is hard rock Alice with average music and average lyrics. This album is worth owning for the Cooper fan, but after the excellent "Billion Dollar Babies" the original band went out on a much lower note with this one.

3 out of 5 stars The CD loses over the original vinyl LP!.......2006-12-10

I am a BIG Cooper fan, from "back in the day," and can agree with just about everything that has been written here about this album, music-wise.

However, I stopped listening to AC the day the original band split up. As far as I'm concerned, AC stopped being a rocker and became a Hollywood infused sideshow from that point on. If you want solid AC rocking, the required albums are: Killer, Love It To Death, Billion Dollar Babies, Schools Out, and Muscle Of Love. Anything after that is fluff!

At any rate, what this CD loses, over the original vinyl LP, is the quirkyness of the packaging. The original product actually came in a corrugated cardboard box, as depicted by the album image above, and was about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. This is vintage Cooper, right down to the fake water-damage stain at the bottom of the cover!

I remember that it had a flap on the back that was sealed with the typical "impossible to open neatly" glue found on almost all manufacturer sealed boxes of the day. Thus, when you opened the album, you ended up with a mangled flap that would never close correctly after that. If you were lucky, you might even have ripped away other parts of the album cover. Also, due to the thickness of the cover, it never quite fit in my album rack ... remember the album rack?

God I miss those days! Now, if I could just remember what all came inside the box (other than the vinyl LP), I could die a happy man.

5 out of 5 stars BLUES REVUE MAGAZINE Issue No.61 by Tom Hyslop.......2000-09-21

You might have noticed her name in a list of W.C.Handy nominees. Maybe you've heard her perform in a club or at a major festival. It's even possible that you haven't heard of her. Well, her super-bad new disc, "People Love The Blues", is pure impact, and if it takes hype to get the message out, this is a good time to start it. Get hip to Sista Monica now, she's that good. Sista Monica Parker's huge voice and incredible chops give her one of the best instruments around. Her sweet but powerful singing bears traces of admired singers like Etta James and Katie Webster. Teqnique? Monica can blow the element out of her microphone with the best of them ("Somebody Gonna Give Up Something Tonight"), work a late-night ballad with gospel intensity ("A Chnce To Breathe")or quiet sincerity ("It's A Shame, It's A Mystery"), or convincingly deliver an anthemic standard-to-be ("People Love The Blues"). And She's a performer that can hold your attention through an entire humorous narative ("Honey It's Your Fault"). Her phrasing and delivery are unerring and she has attitude to burn. Three covers- Jackie Wilson's "Baby Work Out", Albert Collin's "Put Your Shoe On The Other Foot", and James Cleveland's "Walk Around Heaven All Day"- aside, Sista Monica wrote and produced everything on this album, alone or in conjunction with keyboard player Danny B. All the material is top-notch, mostly in a contemporary style not too far from the great sound of Collins' Alligator and Pointblank records. Her band, including Ron E. Beck on drums, a horn section and several guitar and bass men, smolders on slow blues and boils over on the funk. The record spotlights several appearances each from some of the best guitarists in the businnes: the impeccable Dan Caron (of the late Charles Brown's Band), versatile Jimmy Thackery and mighty Larry McCray, who defines both raw power and beautiful understatement in his contributions. Enough said. If you dig contemporary blues, it's hard to imagine that you won't like Sista Monica. She's star material all the way. This is a near-perfect record, and, like the title says, People Love The Blues.

5 out of 5 stars Sista Monica is the Real Deal.......2000-09-13

Few singers have emerged in the past few years who have impressed this writer as much as Sista Monica Parker. She has a new album on her Mo Muscle label, People Love the Blues, that should help continue to establish her as one of the great singers in the blues today. While I was sent a cd without a cover or liner notes, I presume her band that includes keyboard wizard Danny B. (Beconcini), drummer Ron Beck and guitarist Sam Verela with special guests on this album, Larry McCray and Jimmy Thackery. A couple tracks feature the booting sax of late Ken "Big Papa" Baker whose loss is still felt by Monica and her band. For those not having heard her two earlier albums, Sista Monica is a powerful singer with a voice that will remind you of Etta James, though one can hear other influences including Ruth Brown, Big Maybelle and others. And like them, when you hear her sing, you notice her presence. On an album with consistent first-rate performances, it is hard to pick stand-out tracks, but a long blues, One Thang Baby, may be it with a smoldering backing. And Monica is not the woman as victim here. If a man wants to give her crap, he can sleep in his own bed as she reminds him on You're Only Good For One Thang Baby. Not that she can't handle a lighter mood as on the more low-key A Chance to Breathe. There is also a rocking rendition of Jackie Wilson's Baby Work Out. What else can I say, but she has produced another superb album that firmly establishes her as among the leading singers in the blues today. While the mass media focuses on the next young blues phenom, a major talent like Sista Monica whose music has substance may not get the hype, but certainly should and will get an audience her talent deserves. And she is as good live as on record

if you love shemieka copeland you will love sista monica with a strong powerful voice that can belt out any blues tune and could also touch your heart with her tender soulful voice this cd is for you. special guests are larry mccray and james thackery on guitars

5 out of 5 stars Only for Dark Zone Lovers!.......2002-02-15

I highly recommend this album only if your a fan of "Lexx," otherwise it might be to new-age goth for the music maven at heart. The album features a lot of background music heard from the first season of the sci-fi show like the intro song and a the Brunnen-G fight song. (You know that song that Kai is always singing). There are also some actual dialogue clips from the show that come before the appropriate songs. I admit some parts of the album are a bit cheese, but some of the cuts of this album would be great for radio station spots. I'm currently a college Dj with a 80's dark wave show and the music from this album is great for background beds and intros. So once again this album is probably only for the cheese at heart or people interested in having a great dark zone show!
My favorite quote from the album is on track number #9.
790: "I'm equipped with love."
Stanley Tweedle: "I'm equipped with a love muscle."
(I think the song either appears in Luvliner or Super Nova when Stanley Tweedle is almost molested by Tim Curry (A.k.a poet man)

5 out of 5 stars Tales/Lexx CD Other Worldly.......2001-05-24

The CD from Tales From A Parallel Universe or to it's fans better known as The Lexx Movies, is able to transend it's other worldly music to even the hardest sceptic of Lexx. The rythum and melodies of the songs bring pictures to one's mind of it's imaginative subject matter. And no one can resist the upbeat Fight Song of the Brunnen-G. Skeptics open your mind and take a ride on the Lexx to a new universe of music. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars great scifi soundtrack of an underrated show.......2001-01-27

Lexx is either adored or hated. This soundtrack is universally adored. I have known people who have never seen Lexx break into Ya-a-o fight song. My best friend who cannot stand Lexx chooses this CD as his prefered gaming music. Sample junkies take note taht many good sounds and vocal clips are on this as well. So even if you are not a fan of the show but really like well composed and intresteing soundtracks, you must get this NOW!

5 out of 5 stars Marty Simon's work on Lexx is Fantastic!.......2000-12-02

This CD was part two of my two step doorway into loving Lexx (perhaps see my Lexx review). Part one was Sci-Fi Channel's playing of the Four Lexx Movies (Sci-Fi's terrible marketing of Lexx almost stopped me from giving it the chance it deserves). The music on this CD, created by Marty Simon, is the fantastic score from those movies. Everyone's favorite "Yo-A-O (Fight Song Of The Brunnen-G)" is probably the Lexx-addict centerpiece of the CD; it is a brilliant vocal piece that has all the sense of the artist/poet warrior pride that the Brunnen-G culture was famed for, plus a tense and dramatic optimism for victory all wrapped into a less-than 60 second piece. This is brilliant composition and execution. The other tracks of note are the grand sounding theme ("Welcome To The Dark Zone"), "Gigashadow March," "Fantasy Dance" (which lives up to its name in a cute and positive but not at all Disney way), the dance-like thematic "Moth Ride" and even "Milk Fed Boys," which you have to see "Tales From a Parallel Universe 2.0" (second movie) to fully appreciate. If you like Lexx (even if only for just the four movies), pick up this CD; you will certainly appreciate it. It's one of my personal favorites. I hope to see more of Marty Simon's Lexx soundtrack released in the future. I am off to find out what else he created...

5 out of 5 stars Fantasy/Futuristic Ambience for Non-Fans.......2000-07-20

I originally bought this soundtrack because I had seen a few epidodes of Lexx and thought I was going to become a fan. Although I don't watch the show much anymore, this CD still gets good play time in my house. That's because it's great, without even the factor of being tied to the movies and series. This CD was the first time I bought a score type soundtrack instead of ones filled with songs played in a movie (and overplayed on radio). The tracks are all enjoyable. The ones that really stand out are Battle Of The Universe (a laid back futuristic battle march), Love Muscle (a techno-ish dance nightmare, but I love it), and Zev's Shower (a beautiful, feminine journey). I even racked my brain and couldn't find a single thing to complain about; this whole CD is great!
