Show Biz Kids: The Steely Dan Story 1972-80
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
If the 66 tracks served up on the four-disc Citizen Steely Dan are more Fagen/Becker than you're in the market for, but the 14 on A Decade of Steely Dan feel skimpy, Showbiz Kids should suffice. Presenting 33 hits of both the AM and FM varieties from 1972 through 1980, the two-disc retrospective provides a reasonably thorough overview for the discerning (if not obsessive) Dan fan. However, given that the deadpan duo sweated the details when assembling their intricate LPs, a fair case can be made that, if the likes of "Dirty Work" or "Don't Take Me Alive" or "Deacon Blues" (to select but three delightfully representative tracks found here) capture one's fancy, the entire remastered, annotated collection beckons one title at a time. For a solid sampling of these Babylon brothers, however, Showbiz Kids delivers the goods. --Steven Stolder

Steely Dan Showbiz Kids.......2007-06-27
Steely Dan classics from 1972-1980. A must have for those who appreciate Steely Dan.
The Best 2-Disc Compilation of the Dan That is Out There! Good Sound Quality Too!.......2006-12-10
This is by far the best 2-disc retrospective of the brilliant Dan, a band frequently underrated and overlooked but finally achieving long overdue recognition with the Grammy for Album of the Year for "Two Against Nature." Although none of the tracks from that album is on this album, for those who only just became fans because of that album and now want to go back and find out more, this is the right place to come to as all the great tracks from all the previous albums are here on these 2-discs. Where "Gold" was the best single disc retrospective of the band, "Showbiz Kids" gives a more complete picture and is really all you need to give you an accurate indication of how great this band is. The remastering is good but not great and yet the sound quality is still a lot better than other allegedly remastered discs that I've heard out there. There is not a single weak track on these two discs. The only down side for me is that the brilliant "Green Earings" isn't included and the version of "Bodhisattva" is the studio version and not the excellent live version that's on "Gold". For fans of intelligent, near perfect pop and jazz/rock, you've come to the right place. Deserved members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and this album shows you why. Highly recommended!
Discover the magic that is..STEELY DAN!.......2006-11-02
What a top-notch collection from a truly original band. If you at least have a mild appreciation for Steely Dan, pick up this double cd set, and you just might become a Dan-Fan for life.
You might even say to yourself...I didn't KNOW they did THAT song!.
All are gems.
A great representation of this band's amazing career(before Two Against nature)
A must have. Seriously.
NOT HAPPY WITH AMAZON REGARDING THIS ALBUM.......2006-10-12
When I saw that this item was for sale on Amazon, I instantly put it in my shopping cart....that was in August. After several emails indicating a delay, I finally cancelled my order today (10/11/06). It should not take two months to get a cd.
The absolute best Steely Dan compilation.......2006-06-30
Prior to purchasing this CD I had never owned any of their CDs. Their music was part of the soundtrack of my teenage years, but I now have a better appreciation of their musical creativity and pure song-writing talent. This is the perfect 2-CD set for really getting to know what Steely Dan is about. I can't think of anything they left out of this set. The name speaks for itself.
