This Alice Cd is good, not great, but good. Others you can purchase which are heaps better, like 'From the Inside'

3 out of 5 stars Too much Filler, not enough Killer.......2006-12-29

Ok, I understand this was supposed to be Alice's return to the roots-straight up, stripped down, down 'n' dirty garage rock. I'm a longtime Alice Cooper fan, of the original band, and Alice solo. Everything about this cd is cool-except for the fact that some of the songs, just aren't that great. The band totally rocks hard, lean and mean- but some of these songs sound like they were written in 5 minutes. That method could be called "experimental" or "raw" songwriting- but I always think Alice comes off best when he really fine-tunes and crafts his songs with a little more depth. I have no problem with the production- Mudrock's approach here is full-on raw power, loud, and in your face(although oddly enough, drummer Eric Singer's snare drum sounds a bit muted or muffled on some tracks, not sure why, like it's not sharp enough). As far as just songwriting goes, this is a mixed bag- "Novocaine" and "Detroit City" sound a bit stuffy (Detroit) and forced (Novocaine). "Man Of The Year" starts off great musically, but goes all wrong (lyrically-usually Alice's strong point) in the end where the "Man" kills himself, it's kind of a big downer, I mean I was laughing for the first 2 verses and bridge , then comes the final verse, and the fun ends with the guy killing himself- I know he's got a message to get across here, but still. "Love Should Never Feel Like This" comes off as a Trash/Hey Stoopid outtake, not good at all. Having said that, there are some real gems here, like on every A.C. album. "Between High School & Old School", "I'm So Angry", "What Do You Want From Me?" and "Spirits Rebellious" all rock, and hold up well. "Bye Bye Baby" is a fun "Killer/Love It To Death" style Alice rocker. It seems like he wrote these lyrics in 10 minutes and said "let's run with it". "Be With You Awhile" is one of Alice's best ballads since the 70's- a great vocal on that, just like "You And Me" or "I Never Cry". "The Song That Didn't Rhyme" is another one of Coop's funny and satirical songs, and it works well. The vintage "Nightmare" era horror track- "This House Is Haunted" is pretty good, but not a classic like "Years Ago" or "Sick Things". To sum up, I'll give this album 2 & 1/2 stars, maybe 3. Favorite song by far, is the killer anthem "Between High School & Old School". That's an all-time Cooper classic!

Check out Alice's follow up album "Dirty Diamonds" (released in 2005) it's a much, much better record than this. A lot less filler. I'm not trying to bash "The Eyes Of Alice Cooper" (I saw the concert on this tour, Halloween '04 in Reno - it was an awesome show, and Alice was in top form) it's just that it's got too many songs that don't work for me, and that's coming from a die-hard Alice Cooper fan. Not his worst solo album, but far from the best.

3 out of 5 stars Cooper Goes Back To His Roots.......2006-12-18

The morality trilogy over, Cooper moves back in time and basically recreates the garage rock sound of the original Alice Cooper Band updated to a modern format. Very little peachiness' or religion to be found here with the exception of "Man Of The Year" which would have fit right in on one of his previous 3 albums. The songs are straight up rock n roll with the emphasis on hard rock rather then the metal sound of his last two discs. I remember when this album came out "Classic Rock" magazine gave it 5 stars and named it as one of their albums of the year. My expectations were pretty high when I picked it up, but unfortunately I don't think it quite lives up to the hype. There are some good songs here; "What Do You Want From Me?" is a great opener that sees Alice in a rather compromising relationship. "Between High School And Old School" could be every old rocker's theme song. Living in Michigan I love "Detroit City" which is a tribute to the city that made Alice famous and the many great musicians that have come from there. The album closer "Backyard "Brawl" is one of the angriest, grungiest, heaviest things Alice has ever put on record. I defy anyone to listen to this song in their car and not crank it up to 11. Two other songs have potential, but don't quite work all the way for me. "This House Is Haunted" is a would be horror tale, that is not quite up to the standards of some of Cooper's previous stuff. "The Song That Didn't Rhyme" is clever, but again the lyrics sound somewhat forced. The rest of the album is pretty average garage rock. Not bad, but it could have come from any number of bands of similar ilk. I give this one 3 stars. It is not as good as it was hyped to be in the press, but it is still a solid effort.

4 out of 5 stars ALICE IS (AND WILL ALWAYS BE) COOL!!!.......2006-08-16

This is a great Alice Cooper Cd. (I just give it 4 stars cuase, to me, nothing beats the cds Brutal Planet & The Last Temptation). Again, my fav drummer Eric Singer (of KISS), drums on this cool Alice Album. Unlike Brutal Planet, It's not a heavy, heavy record, but has a twist of old school rock Alice from the School's Out & Billion Dollar Babies Days mixed with the newer rock sound. A tad poppy, but it certainly screams ALICE. Alice maybe older, but with lyrics on the songs What Do You Want From Me, Man of the Year and Novacane, Alice shows he knows whats going on in society and reflects angst and humor in these great songs. Other cool songs are Detroit, Back Yard Brawl and the Horror-esque This House is Haunted. If you want a fun rock album in your collection by the Horror Music Legend, pick this one up!! It's worth it!!

5 out of 5 stars The Greatest album of the 2000's for Alice. Better then Dirty Diamonds........2006-07-31

The Eyes of Alice Cooper was released in 2003, and was a great career and musical move for Alice. You see he had released 2 heavy grunge nu records in 99/00, and 01 which were ok but anoter album of it would have been futile. This album sounds alot like his old 70's material, and its a great record. People say it isn't one of his most creative albums, I highly disagree, this album has some of the most Creative lyrics that Cooper has ever put out, along with great mysterious music on some songs. A great team of musicians helps him on this. Lets look at the cd.

Cd itself - A good picture of Alice on the front, and it has good recording quality, and it is shipped in a plastic jewel case. 5/5

Inserts - Alot of good photo's of Alice and the band, a great Album cover, and lyrics are included and its got a great colorful mix in it. 5/5

Songs.

What Do You Want From Me? - This is one of Alice's greatest album starters and a great song, good funny lyrics, and amazing guitar work. 5/5

Between Highschool and Old School - This song is easily a hit in the making its alot like Schools Out, plus the lyrics are great and the guitarists use some powerchords but its still a great song. 5/5

Man Of The Year - Another catchy great song one of the best on the record. 5/5

Novocaine - Another great song with catchy riffs and music. 5/5

Bye Bye Baby - Another good hard rocker with catchy lyrics. 5/5

Be With You Awhile - A good Cooper balled with good music to back it up too. 5/5

Detroit City - A great song with a catchy grunge sound to it also, very similar to KISS's Detroit Rock City. 5/5

Spirits Rebellious - A good track with some funny lyrics. 4/5

This House is Haunted - A very spooky Cooper balled like song with spooky music and great haunting funny lyrics. 5/5

Love Should Never Feel Like This - A good Cooper song with good lyrics and music. 5/5

The Song That Didn't Rhyme - A funny song with great lyrics and good enough music. 4/5

I'm So Angry - Another good Cooper song with good bass work - 5/5

Back Yard Brawl - A return to the grunge sound on the last song but its ok because this song is great, good metal lyrics. 5/5

As you can see Cooper came back with some good work and alot of fun for himself and his fans. and the price is great for what you get. 5/5 on the price.
