A Little South Of Sanity [2-CD SET] [Explicit Lyrics] [Live]

Drug addiction couldn't stop them, nor could the ascension of alterna-rock and the process of aging. Not only are Aerosmith still together, but they're still recording hit singles. Since their formation in the early '70s, the band has scored a multitude of platinum albums and Top 40 hits. Moreover, Aerosmith remain a flamboyant, energized live band capable of recapturing that magical, sexual endorphin rush of youthful rock & roll abandon. Yup, on a good night, seeing Aerosmith is like experiencing your first time all over again. So it comes as no surprise that this band's double live disc is no mere trip down memory lane. Vocalist Steven Tyler still sounds raw, untamed, and on-key, shrieking as passionately as ever and reaching notes Robert Plant and Ozzy Osbourne would sell their kidneys for. And guitarist Joe Perry's bluesy, blustery rhythms and piercing solos still echo with passion and hunger. The first disc is a bit bogged down with '90s material, but the band performs stellar versions of "Love in an Elevator," "Livin' on the Edge," "Cryin'," and "Janie's Got Gun." It's the second disc that really sizzles, as the Toxic Twins dip into their drug-addled past and unleash monsters such as "Back in the Saddle," "Dream On," and "Sweet Emotion." Get your rocks off! --Jon Wiederhorn

Recorded in faceless enormodomes, then airbrushed into abstraction, this is a sanitised slice of rock verité ... A little south of sanity, perhaps, but two miles west of entertaining.

5 out of 5 stars Aerosmith - 'A Little South Of Sanity' (Geffen).......2007-07-15

Review no.116. Very well assembled 2-CD, 23 track audio document of Aerosmith's 1997-98 road trek. I don't care what any old school fans might say about 'Sanity' plus EVEN though it was reportedly one of those 'contractual obligation' live albums, I still think it's a worthy 2-CD release that's truly a must-have. Cuts here that had me keeping this title handy for some time now are "Love In An Elevator", "Same Old Song And Dance", the dramatic "Jamie's Got A Gun", "Back In The Saddle", "Last Child", "Mama Kin", "Walk This Way" and the concert show stomper "Sweet Emotion". Absolutely 100% essential.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing !.......2007-05-27

Really great doudle live set from Aerosmith, the sound is loud and the choice of songs is perfect. One of the best rocking band of the planet.
These guys are real rockers ! Highly recommanded, you can't go wrong.

4 out of 5 stars A good live show of a band in decay........2006-08-08

Ok, don't let the title of this review fool you. Aerosmith is one of the greatest american rock band, blah, blah, blah. But let's face it: their records aren't getting any better. So why is this live album good? Because it can work as a live greatest hits collection, having classics tunes like "Mama Kin", "Dream On" and "Last Child" and songs from the later Aerosmith Era like "Rag Doll", "Eat The Rich" and "Living On The Edge".

Along the music, Aerosmith shows that they are alive, they can still rock hard (and they know how to). But also that their songs, as the red wine, get better with time.

4 out of 5 stars The Past Meets The Present.......2006-01-30

An excellent live compilation CD of all Aerosmith hits both past and present. I'm not really a fan of live CDs. I prefer the studio albums, but I have to say this is one of the best live albums I've heard.

4 out of 5 stars Current classics with a touch of the past.......2005-10-15

This is what you get when you see Aerosmith in concert. They sound great and try to mix in some oldies within the lineup of songs. My only complaint is that it is usually the "same old song and dance" not to pun, but the same six or so classic hits. If you want to listen to a great live Aerosmith pre-mtv release, get "Live Bootleg", also. "Live Bootleg" is highly recommended as it was the last live recording before the band fell into a drug coma and broke up. If you don't get to see Aerosmith in concert, "A Little South of Sanity" will basically bring you there.

    5 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2000-08-08

This Live CD is just outstanding! I was amazed at the quality that it shows! Is Aerosmith at its best! If you have never been to an Aerosmith concert, then buy this CD, and you'll just want to be there, with Aerosmith, on stage, between Steven and Joe!

5 out of 5 stars Best album Aerosmith has cut since Rocks........1999-10-06

I'm serious, all their albums between Rocks and a Little South of Sanity are very mediocre. Listen to the track Same Old Song and Dance, it really kicks!

5 out of 5 stars Three Decades of Hits.......1999-05-20

I bought this CD the day after I saw Aerosmith in concert. I saw them in 1990 and they were even better in 1999! I wanted something with all my favorie songs on it and that's what I found! I was a fan back in high school in the late 70's so not only does it have the big hits from back then it has some hits from the 80's and 90's. What more could you ask for. Any band that is still going this strong after three decades has got to be GREAT! If you're an Aerosmith fan you've GOT to get "A Little South of Sanity"!

5 out of 5 stars Liked the cd. But didn't expect what was given........1999-01-24

I bought the cd thinking that I'd get something a little more harsh. What I mean is that I thought Tyler would have more time talking on the mike and pumping up the audience and the band then he did. I also thought that the band would go beyond the recorded songs barriers and would improvise a little bit more. Basically I anticipated them mixing everything up a little bit more. Overall I really did love the album despite what I thought and what I got. Anyways, one article I read in last months People magazine basically claimed that Aerosmith was copying their British counterparts, The Rolling Stones, but who are they to say something like that? If Aerosmith had been aroung longer than the Stones I believe the article would have gone the other way. Aerosmith has been aroung long enough, produced good enough music, and put on good enough shows over the past three decades to deserve anything they do to at least gain respect from some know-it-all "journalist'! No matter what anyone tries to argue, Aerosmith is one of the greatest rock'n'roll bands ever. And if they're still rocking in their fifties they're obviously doing something right!

5 out of 5 stars Aerosmith has put out yet another fantastic work of art........1998-12-20

It has so many different songs from different albums that whenever I can't pick which Aerosmith CD I want to listen to, I put this one in! All the songs are great. I love it.

I luv Aerosmith sooo much! When i bought this, I wasn't sure if it would be any good because a lot of live cds are no good~ but this one was terrific! I'm so used to listening to the live versions of songs now, that when i hear one on the radio i think i actually like the live one better! This cd is absolutley fabulous! Any and Every Aerosmith fan should go out and buy this~ it's an absolute MUST in your collection!!!

5 out of 5 stars Aerosmith-The Greatest Live Band Ever!.......1999-06-26

They may be one of the top 5 bands ever- this is hardcore rock and roll, you got the legendary songs that gave Aerosmith its spot as one of the top bands of the 70's such as Sweet Emotion, Walk This Way, and Dream On. You have the powerful ballads that brought Aerosmith back from the rock and roll gutter such as Angel, Cryin', Crazy, What It Takes,Amazing, and Hole In My Soul . And you have timeless hits that anyone would just want to stop what they're doing and get up and dance to such as Mama Kin, Same Old Song And Dance, Rag Doll, and Dude(looks Like A Lady). The only songs that were left out were Full Circle (i guess im the only one who really thinks that song kicks ass), Pink, Toys in the Attic, and Draw the Line. Other than that, this is a must have for any Aero Fan
