4 out of 5 stars Crazy Legs - Jeff Beck and The Big Town Playboys.......2006-08-02

Having sampled much of Jeff Becks work in the past, I felt it was time to try something a little different from the man. This album finds Jeff in ground not really explored by his considerable talent before.

Jeff drew his inspiration for this album from Gene vincent and his band, The Blue Caps. The real focus for Jeff was to produce a fitting tribute to their guitarist Cliff Gallup who was an early inspiration to Jeff. He succeeds and then some. The 18 track album consists of 50's style rockabilly inspired music which kicks along at fairly breakneck pace from track 1 "Race with the Devil", which in line with Jeffs love of hot rod cars, encapsulates the feel of the times and you can almost hear the tyres screech!

A favorite track of mine is "Catman" which transports you into a far seedier place, with a hot sweaty 50s night club feel. Mike Sanchez's excellant controlled vocals pouring syrup into your ears one second and soaring into 'tear yor ears off' territory the next! All the time ably accompanied by the relentless rhythm section and Jeffs equally excellant 'cut throat razor' guitar riffs. Atmospheric, sums it up I think.

In summary, If you love the early sound of rock and roll, you'll love this, it's all there but with modern production whilst maintaining a very authentic 50s feel. You'll find yourself singing the tunes in the bath and wanting to slick your hair back! A fitting tribute to Cliff Gallup indeed.

Should you buy it? What are you waiting for?, you know you want to!!

2 out of 5 stars Is this it?.......2005-10-13

The rap side of Rockabilly. In other words it all sounds the same and becomes tedious. Guitar Shop had some innovation and feeling to it. Crazy Legs is just not up to snuff and reflects his lack of meaningful direction. Beck needs to get back on the edge of Fusion. A genre that has been sorely missed in the Rock and Roll world.

5 out of 5 stars Twang.......2003-07-18

Danny Gatton, Les Paul on acid, Brian Setzer. Put them all together and this is what Jeff Beck sounds like on this album ...FREAKIN great!. To sum it all up Frank Zappa was asked about guitar players ..and who were his favorite players.
Frankie said ..." JEFF BECK IS MY FAVORITE GUITAR PLAYER ON THE PLANET" Well I say ...F-ing DITTO.

4 out of 5 stars A fitting tribute.......2003-05-03

This was the followup to Guitar Shop and was simply Jeff's dedication to one of his strongest musical influences. Too much gets made about the playing not reflecting the talent of the MAN. This style is not about how many notes you can bend, but simply letting it fly. The Bigtown playboys really help carry this off well. I don't necessarily put this on all that often, but when I want this style, I reach for it along with Rockpile.

5 out of 5 stars Rockabilly Jeff!.......2003-03-03

One of the most unique albums of Jeff Beck's career. I was never much of a fan of the rockabilly genre, but I can appreciate this disc and I listen to it often. Of course, a Jeff Beck album wouldn't be a Jeff Beck album without awe inspiring playing, and Jeff's solos here leave you speechless (not a surprise, eh?). A fitting tribute to Mr. Beck's hero, Cliff Gallup (another great guitarist).

For this album, Jeff hires the Big Town Playboys, and they seem to complete the rockabilly picture perfectly. This band has an especially great drummer and singer. "Baby Blue" especially shows this, and it also contains what is probably Jeff's best solo in the album. This disc has a bunch of material on it, and it was recorded perfectly. Jeff and the Boys have an astoundingly authentic sound, and that just adds to the pleasure of Crazy Legs. Anyone who needs that extra little Jeff Beck fix or an introduction to rockabilly should definately buy this album. Great music.

"Crazy About You" was the reason I got this album; such a nice and smooth New Jack Swing track that fans should peep. However, other standouts came along, such as "Do Me Like You Wanna Be Done," with a hard, funky hip-hop beat cleverly transitioning into sexy R&B, and both versions of "Satisfy You," the lead slow jam. Other tracks remaining are pleasant, with midtempos and sexy ballads that pave the way for easy listening. Aaron Hall's "The Truth" album was more popular to due more promotion, but you should definitely check out brother Damion's album.

5 out of 5 stars Straight To The Point.......2005-03-19

Sexy, Sultry, STRAIGHT TO THE POINT! I don't think he made another CD since then '90s. I have to find a new CD. Someone liked it sooooooo much, it's now missing.

5 out of 5 stars Straight to the Point.......2004-07-20

Straight to the Point is just what Damion is. I love this CD. Others must love it too since it ended up missing from my collection. Smooth, sexy, sultry.... This brother is smooth and can set the mood. Say no more......

3 out of 5 stars Straight To The Point Will Satisfy You.......2003-12-09

Damion "Crazy Legs" Hall, once part of the New Jack Swing trio Guy with his brother Aaron Hall (who is featured on one cut on this debut CD), breaks out with own MCA album, Straight To The Point. Straight To The Point peaked at a decent No. 22 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in 1994, while the New Jack/Retro-styled ballad, "Satisfy You" and the catchy funk-smokin', New Jack Swing number "Do Me Like You Wanna Be Done" successfully charted on the R&B Charts. The production mainly focuses on a tight blend of New Jack and retro arrangements, and the unpredictable tendencies common on introductory releases. Some songs contain to much instrumentation, and Hall's voice is abyssal. Damion is still very unclear whether he wants to be a balladeer or new jack vocalist, or retro/old school artist, but when things jell, Hall has you yearning for more. Crazy Legs proves he has the skills to be a successful solo artist outside of Guy.
