As fans of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy know, each film exists in two versions: the theatrical one and the extended one that appeared on DVD. This luxurious box set--which also comes with a detailed essay on the movie's musical themes--features the full extended score, so many cues not on the CDs of the individual movies are included. Granted, the majority of listeners will be perfectly happy with the shorter versions of the scores--it's a safe bet that most people can live without hearing, say, Ian McKellen's 35-second-long ditty "The Road Goes Ever On" at the beginning of "Bag End," or Viggo Mortensen's performance of his own composition, "The Song of Lúthien," within the track "The Nazgûl." But if you're a completist and/or a devotee of Howard Shore's pounding tympani and overwhelming choral compositions (featured particularly prominently on disc 3, a large chunk of which is devoted to a battle scene), then this set is a dream come true. Audiophiles should note that the fourth disc, a DVD, offers the score in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. Fire up those speakers so the whole shire can hear. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Album Description
An epic film score receives epic treatment with The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring/Complete Recordings. Released for the first time on CD, the complete score for the first film in the Lord of the Rings trilogy contains more than 180 minutes of music on three CDs plus a DVD-Audio disc of the entire score in Surround Sound. Breathtaking and majestic, the 2001 Oscar and Grammy winning score compsted by Howard Shore also includes Enya's Oscar nominated "May It Be." For fans of any of The Lord of the Rings films, the Fellowship of the Ring/Complete Recordings is an essential experience.
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful.......2007-06-15
I picked up this set because I am both a LOTR fan, movies and books and I need music to help me work. There are some tracks that I skipped over, like the short little ditties in the bar, but many of the songs, such as the Elvish chants are easy to get lost in - its just too bad they don't last longer. The packaging really is well done, though the DVD disc was loose when I received it in the mail, but unharmed. I will have to wait until the price on the second set comes down a little more, but I can't wait for ROTK.
Awesome.......2007-06-12
This is by far the editon to get if you loved the lord of the rings soundtrack. It has every song on it from the extended edition. and the DVD-A version is very nice.
Excellent Music tracks from Movie.......2007-05-03
Brings the movie back as you listen to the full version of the track.
Complete?.......2007-04-07
This CD collection is wonderful; it has much of the material from the movie that was only included in the extended edition DVD, but it is far from complete. While it does have the complete version of "The Passing of the Elves" and two versions of "The Road Goes Ever On", many of the songs are highly incomplete and inferior to the originals. "Aniron," the theme for Aragorn and Arwen performed by Enya, is incomplete and the lyrics are hard to match to what is being sung. The sound quality for this song is even worse on the accompanying DVD, which is supposed to have all of the music in "superior sound". The song "Prophecy" is reduced to two barely-audible lines and "May It Be" is shortened and different than the original. $60 for this when there are more complete songs on the original soundtrack is ridiculous.
Great Collection, Poor Packaging.......2007-04-03
I realy can't add to what others have said about this set, the music is simply the best LOTR soundtrack collection out there! It is all here, and the contents of this set will make any LOTR fan happy and the music DVD is a great one disc addition if you want to hear the entire score in one sitting (to which I have done a number of times already).
My only complaint is the somewhat flimsy cardboard box that houses the contents of this musical treasure. Mine came damaged, and considering the price, I expected better packaging. This is a minor quabble on my part and NO, I havent returned it due to the fact that the music itself Is what I truly treasure, It just would have been nicer to have recieved it undamaged.

I like Kiss since I was a child. Paul Stanley's voice amaze me. How great power it is. Kiss are the door that opens a fantasy world. Of course original Kiss. But I don't like Ace Frehley's songs and his singing. They corrupt quality of the album.
They are still the best........2007-06-12
This CD sounds amazing and you can really hear how good the band actually is.
The End of the First Era of KISS.......2007-06-01
I call this record the official end of the first era of Kiss with the original band. Peter didn't play at all on this one and he only played one song on Dynasty. After this record, he shot the video for "Shandi" and then that was it. In came Eric Carr and the band took off on a hugely successsful tour of Europe and Austrailia where this record was huge. It wasn't so huge in the States because I think that fans knew something was going on, and the shift musically to a bit too much pop was too much for them. Had "Shandi" been huge in the US like it was in Austrailia - there would have been no problems with this record. I like it. Most of the Paul stuff is great. I like "Is That You" amd "Tomorrow". But the overly poppy "Easy as it Seems" and "What Makes the World go Round" almost don't sound like Kiss. Most of Gene's songs are goofy, but "You're All That I Want" is Gene's best tune on here and sounded great live on this tour. No surprise - the edgy Ace turns out the best tunes..."Talk to Me" is cool as is the fun "Torpedo Girl". Ace knows how to have a good time lyrically without losing the hard rock edge. "Two Sides of the Coin" is a great song too. I think what Bill Aucoin said in the authorized offical Kiss biography sums it up best, he said something like Unmasked is a great record, the problem with it was at that point, they (Kiss) were getting tired.
The title should've been MASKED..........2007-05-27
By 1980, Kiss were in turmoil. Peter Criss was gone (Anton Fig plays all drums on the album) and Ace Frehley wasn't too far behind as he was getting disgruntled with the band's new music direction coupled with the loss of Peter. After Dynasty did not merit the success Kiss had wanted and that it was starting to tear apart the Kiss Army, they tried to create an album that everybody - especially radio - would want to hear. Not everyone felt their sentiments in the USA but in Europe - especially Australia - Unmasked was one of Kiss' biggest sellers and they played overseas to some of their largest crowds ever. The only positives that came from this CD in the United States was their children fan base grew considerably, Shandi was a minor hit, and it was certified Gold by the RIAA two months after its release.
Kiss' Unmasked ranks up there with the Elder, Crazy Nights, Hot in the Shade, and Carnival of Souls as their most maligned, hated and weakest releases to date. If you want old school hard rockin' Kiss, you won't find it here and the ones that do rock are so lifeless and sterile due to Vini Poncia's squeaky clean production, keys/synths and co-writing input on most of the songs that it should have been named MASKED. Read on for my review of each song from the Unmasked album (from 1 to 10):
1. Is That You?: Probably the only song on Unmasked that shows any type of hard rock grit. Paul's ode to easy girls..."you always get the boys you like, play nice then stick them with your knife..." An enjoyable Kiss tune NOT WRITTEN BY THEM (Gerard McMahon)!?! I give it an 8.
2. Shandi: This was the first single off the record - only a top 60 hit (#56) here but outside the US it was a smash. Infectious groove by Anton and nice guitar work by Paul and Ace. Vocals by Paul are top notch and the backing vocals sound wonderful. The bass on this song was played by a session man named Tom Harper (no relation) - why I'm not sure. Probably Vini's idea. One of my favorites of the CD. A 10.
3. Talk to Me: Ace's 1st of three songs and this was the second single. Next to Firehouse, the most words ending in "-tion" in a Kiss song. Great rocker. To me, Anton Fig is the star of this track. 9/10.
4. Naked City: My absolute favorite song from Unmasked. Gene does an outstanding job on this one and the chorus alone won me over. Very dark and very Gene. Spectacular song - one of his best. 10 all the way.
5. What Makes the World Go Round: Now here's where the album goes awry. Forgettable Kiss song by Paul about love making the world...well, you get it. The riffs and the chorus doesn't do anything for me. Yawn. A bore. A measly 2 points.
6. Tomorrow: How this wasn't a hit and like another reviewer stated about why this Paul song wasn't in an 80s movie soundtrack baffles me. A true underrated pop gem. Good job Paul! I give it a 8.
7. Two Sides of the Coin: A laugher by Ace. Wow, what masterpiece lyrics: "I've met some ladies, I've met some girls, but they don't tell you, they just wanna whirl. It's kinda funny, a little sad, but they're not happy, they're just kinda glad". How can Ace sing all of that with a serious demeanor? I've heard more controversial lyrics from Romper Room! A funny number but nothing else. I only give it a big fat 3 only for Anton Fig's drum solo in the middle of the song. In my opinion, they hired the right guy to drum on this record (Dynasty as well).
8. She's so European: Gene's ode to "one of a kind" European girls. A clunker. The synthesizers are so cheesy it's unreal and they just don't belong. Damn you, Vini! Bubblegum at its most sugarless taste and to me the worst song along with What Makes... on Unmasked. Poppy synth keyboards and Gene's vocals just don't gel...BLECH! ZERO out of 10.
9. Easy as it Seems: Another cheeseball but this one I'll eat and risk a cavity. The keyboards work here for some reason. I like the groove with the percussion in the background. Not Paul's best but the pulsing backbeat and backing vocals save it from a flush down the toilet. A 6.
10. Torpedo Girl: Ace's 3rd song and it makes up for 2 Sides...big time. I love the line before Ace's solo: "C'mon get your feet wet"! A laidback fun number that some say sounds Beach Boys-ish. All Kiss members and Fig shine on this one and sounds like they're havin' a blast despite everything that was going on in their camp. Another gem on Unmasked. Nine.
11. You're All That I Want: A Gene song that closes the album out on an OK note. Nothing special. Nice harmonies on the chorus though. So-so. Gimme five.
Overall, you need to have an open mind to fully appreciate Unmasked. If you're expecting this to be a "KISS" record - as some would say, enjoying it after one listen - you'll be very upset. Took me a while to get into. I do like it and listen to it from time to time but I wouldn't spend more than $6-7 on it. You could find Unmasked used on Amazon or eBay like I did - found mine on Amazon new for a buck sixty! There are much better Kiss albums to choose from like: Kiss, Alive!, Destroyer, Creatures of the Night, Revenge, and even Dynasty. If you're new to Kiss and/or want to purchase all of their albums, leave Unmasked towards the last ones that you'd buy. Not even the band members care much for this album. Gene Simmons had once said when asked about Unmasked that "Kiss were going through a lot of changes, but sometimes it's OK to take a few wrong turns so when we get back on track we know why it feels so good to come home."
Unmasked is an average pop rock album - not a classic, but not completely horrible. For the open minded, fans of lite rock and/or Kiss completists only. 3 stars.

Album Description
Unmasked is the best of THE MASQUERADERS, featuring 26 tracks recorded from 1965 to 1972 in Dallas, Detroit and Memphis. The album includes their biggest hit single "I Ain't Got To Love Nobody Else" and all the favourites from this highly rated group. Covering the early years and the golden era, Unmasked contains many rarities and three previously unissued '60s tracks from the vaults of American Studios in Memphis. The 12-page sleeve booklet has informative liner notes by Martin Goggin plus rare photos. Much deserved and long overdue attention for this highly talented but often overlooked soul harmony group, featuring the amazing Lee Jones as lead vocalist on most tracks.

My other review got lost in cyberspace, apparently. But as said before, think Temptations without the polish. Instantly likeable, if not earth-shattering.

One of My Fave CDs.......2007-05-17
Recently, I watched Brad Little's performance in Phantom of The Opera in Singapore and bought the Unmasked. He is really a very talented singer. I think that he's different with other singer in the way that his songs are so full of emotion. I especially enjoyed Music of The Night, Forever from Here, This is The Moment, and Beauty and The Beast.

3 stars.

Deceiving reviews..........2005-03-23
This album was released with deceiving reviews. I have heard many a metal listener compare this album to Dimmu Borgir, but that, althought true at some points, is very misleading. A beginning black metal listener may compare this to Dimmu Borgir simply because of the prevalence of keyboards on this album. My friends, that is was symphonic black metal is all about. This album tends to be a bit faster than mid-period Dimmu, and also focuses on much angrier subjects. This ablum is seething with rage, death, and satanic imagery. I especially enjoyed their cover of Symphony of Destruction (imagine a black metal Megadeth with keyboards). This band would line up very nicley along a Dimmu Borgir collection, and would compliment any black metal collection! Black thrash attack!
Little know but great sound!.......2004-03-24
I cannot believe no one has reviewed this CD yet. A friend recommended this to me, and I was not disappointed! Alghazanth's music on this album sounds a lot like Dimmu Borgir, so if you wanted a reference, there is a good one (as Dimmu Borgir is one of the most talented bands around). Give this a try, you won't be disappointed.
My review would be 4 1/2 stars if I could give it that.
