Frijid Pink - 'Defrosted' (Repertoire).......2006-11-12
Originally released in 1970, as this was the band's follow-up to their self-titled album (see my review). Some say Frijid Pink SHOULD have been a huge success. Tracks here that I dug the most were "Black Lace", the common-sounding "Sing A Song For Freedom" (you'll SWEAR you've heard another band perform this song, but it's certainly not a cover), the lengthy eight-minute "Pain In My Heart" and "I Haven't Got The Time". Thought 'Defrosted' was more in the hard rock vein, and maybe less psych than the first lp. This CD reissue has four(4) bonus cuts tagged on, that didn't do much for me. They've just got too much of a definite soul 'vibe' to it. Still, the original album is somewhat of a keeper.
Very Pleasantly Surprised!!.......2006-08-16
I bought this cd just because I enjoyed their first one so much. This one is probably better than the first, to my surprise. I can't believe this band wasn't huge, the should have been. If you love classic rock with some blues thrown in, you'll love this cd and their first one as well.
Turn on the defroster ..........2002-09-14
With this puppy available on CD, I won't have to scour downtown Denver anymore, looking for used eight-track players. This band deserved more success than it received but failed to "brand" itself. (Forgive the marketing terminology. What can I say -- I sold out YEARS ago.) Ironically, the popularity of Frigid Pink's first hit, House of the Rising Sun, was probably the first step toward the band's undoing. It established the Pinksters as a cover band without their own identity. The best cut on this, their follow-up album, is Pain in My Heart, which seems to be incorrectly listed as Pain in My Head. Wonderful, straight-up rock with few surprises.
Psychadelic Blues heavy fusion.......2001-09-22
I can only say what heart tells me. I have this record since 1972 and even today I listen to it with emotion. "Bye Bye Blues", "I'll never be lonely" are simply marvelous. The guitar solos are unique, the drums are stunning, voice was never repeated and bass is good. I wonder why so few people bought this LP back them. All the music is unique! It's all.
sorely underappreciated Motor City rock.......2000-04-25
"Defrosted" picks up where Frijid Pink's eponymous debut album left off. That is, it rocks from start to finish. The band, led by lead guitarist Gary Ray Thompson cranks out blues-based rock and roll Motor City style for 50 solid minutes. The folks at Repertoire have added 4 bonus tracks to the 8 included on the original release, adding more than 10 minutes of bonus listening pleasure. The album contains the single "Sing A Song For Freedom" which reached #55 on the charts, a disappointing followup (chart wise) to "House of the Rising Sun" from their debut album which reached #7 in the summer of 1970, just months prior to the original release of "Defrosted." Driven by Gary Ray Thompson's heavy riffing and mind bending solos and Kelly Green's vocals (reminiscent of Blue Cheer's Dickie Peterson) the band sizzles on "Bye Bye Blues" and "Pain In My Heart" among others. Unfortunately, "Defrosted" reached only #149 on the album charts, paling in comparison to the debut album's #11 placing, and following "Defrosted" all the members of Frijid Pink left the band save drummer Rich Stevers, who then formed a new FJ and released two further, quite inferior albums, "Earth Omen" and "All Pink Inside." Thompson's guitar work alone makes this album a worthy addition to a cd collection. For those who enjoyed the debut album this is a must, and for fans of heavy rock, Detroit style, likewise. Its a cryan' shame that the record buying public abandoned the Pink after their first album. No doubt Gary Ray Thompson had plenty of tasty solos left in him. Don't know what ever happened to him, but I do no that 30 years ago, and again today his guitar work brings joy to my heart.

Wow-A GREAT 2-fer by this Incredible band!!.......2006-03-26
This is a great price(espescially the 'used' prices here at Amazon)for this 2-on-1 cd!! You get the band's awesome 'unplugged' cd 'D-Frosted',which rivals Tesla's monumental cd that launched them into superstar status back when. AND-you also get their last studio cd-'Human Zoo' which is a great blend of Journey meets Bon Jovi meets Tesla. Gotthard are huge in Europe, and their entire catalog is filled with very consistent, well crafted, edgy rock with great hooks and precise playing. They have a brand new cd called 'Lipservice',which many feel is their best yet. Don't miss this release and your chance to introduce yourself to a truely AWEsome current rock band. They're from Switzerland and are pronounced 'Gottard',after the tallest Swiss Alp.Two great cd's on one!! Get it now, you'll love these guys!
