didn't work for rehearsals.......2007-03-22
I used this CD to help me rehearse for the BIG production I was in, but it didn't match the libretto at all. I think there was one song on there that I could use.
Big for folks doing the Musical.......2006-03-20
If you're getting this CD to help prepare for your school or community group doing the musical, there are a lot of changes from the CD to the book. Aside from finding the book in a new key and some chunks added/deleted, Here We Go Again and When You're Big aren't included anymore.
Overall, the music's a little trite, but there are some nice moments -- mostly the stuff sung by the female leads.
It's Awesome, It's Amazing, It's BIG!!!!.......2006-01-22
My high school did "Big" my sophomore year, and oh my god, it was such a fun musical to do. I kind of forgot about it until my senior year, when I suddenly craved some of that music again. So I purchased this CD and I've been loving it since. They got rid of a couple of the songs and replaced them with others as the show progressed on Broadway, so I was suprised to hear new material (to me anyways), and for the most part, I actually enjoyed these original songs over their replacements that my production contained. This cast is phenomenal and the guy who plays Josh Baskin sounds so much like Tom Hanks at points, its crazy. It's a simple, yet a bit fantastic musical about growing up, and it's funny and romantic, and a lot of fun. I love all the songs, and it's a shame it didn't do too well on B-way. At least this recording will keep the music alive.
"This Isn't Me" is one of my favorite tracks, as it's a lot of fun and has a great beat, but suprisingly it was replaced with "Good Morning to Mom", which was only so-so. "I Want To Go Home" is a great ballad that Josh sings, and its simple, a bit funny, and the ending is the best, as its cute and sad. Another song they got rid of, "Here We Go Again", is a song Susan sings, and again, I like it alot. It has a quirky melody that I like. "Stars, Stars, Stars" is another great song, and is quite cute. One of the more popular songs. "Cross The Line" is the finale to Act I and is also very excellent and up beat, and makes you want to dance. "Stop, Time" is my favorite song on the album by far. Sung by Josh's mom, it is one of the more poignant moments of the show. Heartfelt, sad, and truly beautiful, it defiantely makes you appreciate your mom. Barbara Walsh sounds superb on this: she has a great voice. I love this one. "Dancing all the Time" is another good Susan song, and it leads into "I Want To Know" by Young Josh, which is another good ballad. "Coffee, Black" is another showstopper, fun ensemble song, and again, very comedic. "One Special Man" is Susan's ballad to Josh, and it is very beatiful. My only regret is that its only 2:21 so its a short one, and I just want her to start belting at the end, but no, its a quiet ending. Still, I love this one too. The finale is great too, and features an amazing duet between Josh and Susan. I love the harmonies they do.
All in all, this is a great album. Sample the songs and give it a try. This is a must have!!
a lost gem.......2004-10-14
i saw this musical at the local high school in 2001 and was plesently suprised i of course saw the movie and the only thing i knew about this musical was it didnt stay long on broadway, so when i saw it was i shocked this is a delight cross the line still resenates in my head 5 years later.
Ungodly awful.......2004-06-19
BEWARE. This musical is perhaps one of the five worst pieces of music I have ever experienced. I began to wonder if the composer was attempting to make the world's worst musical. Listen for yourself and enjoy the disjunct vocal lines, the desperate attempt at "fun music", and - worst of all - how the highlight of the entire show both dramatically and musically is the insipidly awful "Heart and Soul". Stick to the movie because this baby is horrendous.

Few recording producers and performers take the time and care to so intelligently exhibit a sampling of the rich and colorful American hymn repertoire. This thoughtful and varied program of hymns, Shaker songs, anthems, and spirituals shows what good things can happen when a top-rank choir and director and an accommodating record company join in such a project. The 20 selections come from a variety of sources, including The Southern Harmony (published in 1834) and The Sacred Harp (published in 1844). The Shaker tunes are from the vast collections at New Lebanon and Pleasant Hill, New York, and Sabbathday Lake, Maine. Four of the six spirituals and several of the hymns are arrangements by Alice Parker; others are arranged by James Mulholland. Among the hymns and spirituals are two American choral classics: Randall Thompson's famous and oft-performed "Alleluia" and Daniel Gawthrop's "Sing Me to Heaven." --David Vernier
Customer Reviews:
The best choir out there.......2004-03-02
The Kansas City Chorale is a SUPERIOR vocal group. I am impressed by its large and wholesome sound that is produced by such a small group. The Alleluia CD is beautiful and also very diverse. "Sing me to Heaven" is gorgeous. The harmonies are beautiful on the page, but are even more beautiful when sung by this ensemble. "Alleluia" is also wonderful, and I was impressed by their interpretation of the many shaker songs and spirituals. This cd is a MUST HAVE for any choral singer or enthusiast.
Gorgeous.......2003-03-24
My choir sang "Alleluia", and used this recording to learn the dynamics. A brilliant performance of that piece. The others are, too, excellent. Good balance, dynamic, and overall sound. But the "Alleluia" really stood out for me.
An Excellent CD.......2002-01-23
My pastor bought me this CD and I wasn't sure I'd really like it. Chorale music? You must be joking. But I popped it into my CD player at home and was immediately astonished at what I heard. The Kansas City Chorale have done an outstanding job of singing hymns of various types, most without musical accompaniment. Track 7 ("Encouragement") is my absolute favorite song on this CD. It is so beautiful to hear, especially when I crank it on my big stereo or over my headphones.
Bottom line: if you like chorale music, religious music, or even classical music, you will really enjoy this CD. The quality of the recording is very good.
A moving survey of American hymns.......2002-01-02
This is an excellent, deeply musical performance of a wide variety of hymns, Shaker tunes, and spirituals. The choices provide variety and a thumbnail sketch of a time in America when hymn-singing was a part of every week's activities. I agree with another reviewer that "Precious Lord" is a highlight. Also noteworthy is "Give Me Jesus" at the end. Both the singing and acoustics of the recording are top notch. I have already played this CD many times since receiving it two days ago. I'm ordering copies for friends! Among my many choral CDs, this one stands out as a favorite.
a listener from North Kansas CIty.......2001-06-27
What a excellent CD! I got this for Christmas after going to a couple of their concerts and it sounds just as good as it did live. If you like chorale music then this is the cd for you. I personally know a man that sings in this group and is very talented singer along with the rest!

Pure Moore.......2004-09-24
Moore is one of the truely great guitar players out there. He has his own unique sound, and when you here it you know it's him. This cd captures that sound in it's full, clear raw power. Not only does he "ROCK", but he does it with taste. Those of you who have heard Moore know what I'm talking about, and those of you who haven't should definitly take a listen.
Worthy Concert.......2004-08-14
Recorded in 1984 throughout the world We Want Moore captures Gary at his peak while in his hard rocking days. Opening with three solid rockers "murder in the Skies', 'Shapes of Things', and 'Victims of the Future' Moore lays to waste the audience with incredible picking and an unbelievable sound captured nicely with Moore handling production with Tony Platt. This is no bulldozer heavy metal sound, but a vintage Marshall Stack turned up to 11 blaze. A nice vintage hard rock sound that really crunches. Of course no Moore live album would be complete without 'Empty Rooms' a song I can't imagine how didn't make the charts amist all the crap heavy metal ballads of the 80's, it is truly a song with emotion, and of course suits Gary's style of playing. All in all a choice pick for real 80's hard rock, that is, hard rock befor Metallica got huge and ruined it for everyone. Moore is one of the finest heavy guitarist of the era, bar none.

Customer Reviews:
We Want Mott.......2002-08-09
It had been a multi coloured road for Gary Moore to take his guitar before he reached the release of this live album in 1984.
After coming to England from Dublin with mates Noel Bridgeman (drums) and Brush Shiels (bass and vocals) in the band Skid Row, they went up and down the M.I. unloading and reloading their gear in every possible location, building a solid reputation. Before Gary Moore's axe work came to the notice of fellow Irish rocker Phil Lynott (who had been in a previous Skid Row before Moore joined) on the look out for a lead guitarist after Eric Bell had left Thin Lizzy leaving Lynott in the lurch. For the next 6 years Gary Moore was in and out of Thin Lizzy like a Jack in the box displaying his dazzling skills, and cementing a reputation as one of rock's premier guitar slingers. In the interim Gary was also on 3 albums by Jon Hisemans Colosseum II honing his skills in Jazz Rock fusion, leaving Thin Lizzy for good in 1979. He started a solo career only broken by a year's stay in the Greg Lake Band where he drank deeply of the blood of progressive rock. Disbanding his 1983 band to the winds, Gary put this band together to record the album "Victims Of The Future" and then went out on a massive world tour to promote it, recording concerts in Detroit, London, Tokyo, and Glasgow, to put this album together.
Going for the throat with an approach in-corporating all the crash Bang Wallop of heavy metal rock and his undoubted over the top skills on the axe, these live recordings almost burn your speakers up.
The band Moore put together was nothing short of magnificent. Right-hand man on keyboards, second guitar, vocals, and crowd rabble Rouser was Neil Carter of U.F.O. / Wild Hoses and Gilbert `O' Sullivan fame; on bass was Craig Gruber, ex Elf and Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow; to complete the line up was Ian Paice, who has never played better than on these recordings, although Ian left to be replaced by Bobby Chouinard, when the call went out to reform Deep Purple.
When "We Want Moore" was first released you got the album (six songs) with a free encore e.p. (four songs). Now in the days of C.D it's possible to get the whole lot on one C.D.
The songs from the main set don't let up for a second and in true eighties tradition Moore just blazes his fingers over them. All of the songs are over 7 minutes long with extended solos. The old Yardbirds classic "Shapes Of Things" is smashed apart and lumped back together. "Cold Hearted" is stretched to 11 minutes with Moore taunting the audience with guitar pyrotenics.
The encore section features one ballad, "Empty Rooms", which is beautifully sad, and if you are interested, can be heard played superbly by our own Lam Morrisson in Pattaya. The whole thing is wrapped up by "Rockin & Rollin" from the Hammersmith Odeon with a totally Gonzoid Jimmy Nail on guest vocals.
Gary Moore went onto Super stadium with his "Still Got The Blues" album, but this was a great phrase in his career.
Mott the Dog.
Awsome Live Recording.......1998-10-21
I have bought two of these cassettes and have worn out both of them. You can rarely find this one. Moore is outstanding here with his powerful, driving gutar work. The solo in End of the World is even better live. His touch in Empty Rooms is amazing. Check it out if you can find it.
