many santana albums are a mixed affair -- is santana a pop band or is it really about santana's transcendent guitar playing?
this album simplifies that for those who just want to hear santana wail on his axe. this one, more than anything else, makes the argument for why he is one of the 5-6 best guitarists to emerge from the rock genre. he always puts passion and feel before virtuousity (though he has that too). The intensity, the tone, the melody & latin rhythms...He is right up there with hendrix, page, jeff beck, clapton and a select few others.
Great CD, BUT:.......2002-04-05
Santana is fabulous as always, and this is a great mixture of music, but take care on this one - All of the cuts are on Santana's "Supernatural" CD. The songs have been given different titles, but the music is the same. And what's with the title "Instrumentals"? Nearly all cuts have vocals. I now own two nearly identical CD's - am afraid to go for "Instrumentals Volume 2" - is it also a collection of songs simply re-titled and re-released?
An Instrumental Masterpiece.......2000-01-22
It was a dream come true when this CD came out. I always hoped Santana would release an album with all their great instrumentals on it. I listen to this CD alot and never get sick of it. Full Moon, Bella, and Aqua Marine are my favorites. Every tune is awesome.
Guitar Fever.......2000-01-12
This instrumental collection will seem to be flawless, unless you listen over and over, which you will want to do because it is that good. I only wish that Carlos might join with some jazz musicians, say Don Byron, to make a jazz album.

This compilation cd is a great collection of Santana favorites. The instrumentals only feature lifts these recordings from a 60's/70's, etc. retrospective into a terrific adult contemporary classic.
Santana The Best Instrumentals.......2007-03-19
This CD has a number of Santana's classic hits like Samba Pa Ti, Flor de Luna, and Soul Sacrifice that I really enjoyed, however, in my opinion those are the only really good songs and this is a mediocre album.

This is great collection. This is the flavor of Santana I enjoy most.

This is a very good compilation of only instrumentals by the master. My only regret is that "Every Step of the Way" from "Caravanserai" is missing. That is one of the most powerful Santana songs ever. Also, my favorite in this compilation is "Aquamarina".
Just the music.......2005-01-09
There are many great guitarists in the world but only Carlos Santana can move me like he does. Long ago I made my own version of this album on cassette because I wanted all these great instumentals on one tape. Finally it has been done and been done right. Europa is easily the best instrumental number ever and I would argue one of the best songs of all time. It is perfectly married with all the other great Santana numbers that were usually the best thing on their respective albums.
Put this on, turn the lights down low and lose yourself in the music.

This is the best instrumental music collection I have ever heard. I am usually not into just instumentals but I can listen to this CD over and over again. I like every song, not just a few like with most CD collections. This is a must have for all age groups.
