I found this recording disappointing in many respects. The sound quality was much lower than expected, especially on track 7 "Largo" which on the origional, Ormandy had created such a quiet grandeur. In trach 11 "Let the Bright Seraphim" Wynton Marsalis overpowered the singing of Edita Gruberova, whereas the music should always be the backup of the singer, and not vice versa. I don't know what happened to the "Hallelujah Chorus," but it didn't come off very well at all.

Nothing else tops this unusually gorgeous rendering. Leppard's is the finest conducting of Handel to this reviewers ears. Especially the Xerxes Largo and the Watermusic
Hornpipes and Fireworks Oveurture tempi, legato and orchestration is full of warmth and energy. A true chiara scuro interpretation. Fabulous!!!!

This collection of George Frideric Handel's "Greatest Hits" leans more heavily towards "The Water Music Suite" than his oratorical work, which is my only serious complaint about this CD as an introduction to the composer's work. Although is does have "See, the Conqu'ring Hero Comes" from Judas Maccabaeus and ends with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir doing the "Hallelujah Chorus," it does not have "For Unto Us a Child is Born" from Messiah, which I consider a glaring omission. The "new" piece for me on this CD that is a nice discovery is "Ode for the Birthday of Queen Anne (Eternal Source of Light Divine)," performed by Wynton Marsalis and the English Chamber Orchestra.

This album showcases Queen's greatest hits from 1981 to 1991.
While I prefer 70's Queen to 80's Queen , there are nonetheless some real gems here like the catchy A Kind Of Magic , the mesmerizing Under Pressure (A collaboration with David Bowie) , the rythmic Radio GaGa , the anthemic I Want It All , the rockish I Want To Break Free , the rock opera It's A Hard Life , the mournful Who Wants To Live Forever , the high energy The Invisible Man , the funky Hammer To Fall and the poerful One Vision .
Together with the UK Geatest Hits I you get a great introduction to one of the 20th centuries greatest bands.

Queen is, without a doubt, one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time (in my opinion, they're the greatest). As with all great bands, there is an unseemly amount of greatest hits collections in Queen's vast catalogue. In 1991, ten years fater their first greatest hits collections was released, the second Queen compialtion was released, entitled "Greatest Hits, Vol. 2". It chronicled all their European hits from 1981 to 1991. How does it hold up read on?

Positives:
-If you're only a fan of Queen's later work, than this collection is ideal. All the later hits are here including "Radio Ga Ga", "Under Pressure", "I Want To Break Free", "I Want It All" and "The Show Must Go On".
-The songs sound good.

Negatives:
-No "These Are The Days Of Our Lives". I would have gladly dumped "Friends Will Be Friends" or "One Vision" for that song.
-Nothing from their early years (though it's kind of a given)
-Hard to locate.
-It's available as a two cd collection, coupled with the first hits collection entitled "Greatest Hits Vols. 1 & 2"

Overall: Good collection. Too bad it isn't sold separately any more.

Compared to Greatest Hits I, this album's sales were disappointing, but the album is much better. Although none of the songs can measure up to 'Bohemian Rhapsody' (no songs can), the overall quality is much better. 'Innuendo', 'Radio Ga Ga', 'A Kind of Magic' and 'Under Pressure' are the best songs.
This album is far superior to its American counterpart, Classic Queen. This album is actually an album of Queen's hits, not half hits, half random songs.
Of course, this goes great with the UK Greatest Hits (with the US one, you don't get Bohemian Rhapsody).

This second volume of Queen's Greatest Hits covers the years 1981 to 1991. During this time period, Queen's popularity in the US dropped drastically. In fact, only two songs from this CD, "Under Pressure" and "Radio Ga Ga", were legitimate hits in America. In the UK, however, Queen remained as popular as ever. Every song here was a hit in the UK, with nine of them reaching the Top Ten. This CD should prove to Americans what the British knew all along; that Queen was still producing good music after they dropped off of the US charts. Highly recommended.
