Loverboy VI

Time waits for no one, as the Glimmer Twins once sagely noted, and it hasn't waited for the Album-Oriented Rock kings of the '80s. That said, the reunited line-up (minus only keyboard Doug Johnson, replaced here by Richard Sera) shows plenty of fire, spirit, and pro chops on a comeback that'll sell particularly well as they trek through the sheds. Highlights: "Love of Money," "Waitin' for the Night," and the undoubtedly prophetic "Nobody Cares." --Jeff Bateman

5 out of 5 stars it's pretty good-it grows on you.......2004-03-08

I too was disappointed with this cd at first listen, but only because I was expecting too much. By the 3rd play it started to grow on me. Now it has a semi-permanent place in the cd changer.
I have to disagree with the negative reviews for this cd, there are several excellent songs, about 4 or 5. The rest are very listenable, no stinkers.
If you ever liked Loverboy, this cd is worth trying, it grows on you.
The drumming is excellent, a bonus.
It doesnt really deserve 5 stars, maybe 4, but I thought the average deserved to be higher.

4 out of 5 stars Good Album.......2002-01-03

Greetings!

I am a long-time Loverboy fan and i cannot tell you how excited i was to pick up this new album...Many years ago, i was at a Loverboy concert up in Washington. Prior to the concert, i talked to Paul Dean and asked him when the lads would put out some new music. He asked me if i had ten bucks...Well of course i did, he then said i could purchase the album in the back of the room! WOW!

This is a guitar driven album with some heavy songs....My favorites are; Spinnin my wheels, big picture, tortured, and goodbye angel.

Ok....I have read some of the other reviews regarding this album. The only thing that is keeping this album from receiving a 5 star rating from me are the lyrics...Fans, Loverboy has always been known for their positive lyrics...Not on this album...!!! The sound is there, but the lyrics are dark and not inspiring....The lyrics sound like todays music....Very much lacking in HOPE! And my fellow loverboy fans, this is what the world needs...Hope! We need a new loverboy album with positive lyrics...

Even though i do not like the lyrics, i would purchase this album as it rocks...Also, i would also recommend Mike Renos solo album "Just if I"...It is superb.

Cheers! Eric :)

Some people will have you believe this cd is cr@p. This is only partly true. The cd starts with a great rocker (Big picture).Songs like 'nobody cares' and 'waiting for the night' are also good rockin' loverboy tunes and 'maybe someday' is a fantastic ballard. Sadly there is some ordinary material on this album which doesn't sound much like the loverboy we know. 'love or money', 'created a monster', and 'spinning my wheels' are not particularly memorable and not really what you would expect. Buy this is you're prepared to skip thru half of the songs but the album shouldn't be totally ignored, theres some excellent tracks mixed in.

2 out of 5 stars I tried SO hard to like this record . . ........2000-06-08

Loverboy was basically my reason for drawing breath in high school, and I found this album in the stores at a time when I was waxing nostalgic. As Dilbert says, "I ask for so little, and boy, do I get it." A great many of the songs sound like leftovers, and with a couple of exceptions (most notably the pretty acoustic ballad "Maybe Someday"), Loverboy seems to be just going through the motions. They're still a fun band to see live, but this record sounds like an attempt to cash in on their renewed success as a road act. Only for the most absolute die-hard fan.

1 out of 5 stars Loverboy- My, how they've lost it!.......1999-08-24

Remember when Loverboy ruled? For me, it was back in High School, when I first heard "Hot Girls in Love" on the radio. I couldn't wait to get my hands on their album. Unfortunately, when I first heard "VI" (Yes, they actually NAMED the CD that!!), I couldn't WAIT to get my $ for it from the used CD store...because that's more than the CD is worth! No hooks, no melody...no saving graces.

I hate to be negative, especially about the fab Loverboy, but it was so disappointing to hear what they've evolved into.
