The best of the era.......2007-07-09
The bset cuts from, arguably, the best years of the Stones. If you are Stones fan you probably have most of these on other albums, however now they are all together for you, just pop in the cd and you've got eighteen of their best. A shame, however some longer versions of the songs aren't here, like Waiting on a friend...the long version has some incredible sax solos by Billy Keys. The one downfall of strictly studio cut albums.
Forget the iPod, just play the entire CD!
How come they sound so good? Cuz its the STONES, that's why!.......2007-01-08
JUMP BACK * THE BEST OF THE ROLLING STONES has tracks that span the years 1971 to 1989. Taken direct from masters, and using what was then the latest technology (20 bit), sound quality of these 18 tunes is excellent. Included is a nicely illustrated 12-page booklet, that has comments about each song by band members-- the sort of details fans and trivia buffs go for. Some examples: "Brown Sugar" was written by Mick while he was filming NED KELLY in Australia, the demo of "It's Only Rock 'N' Roll (But I Like It)" featured Jagger and David Bowie, "Undercover Of The Night" was inspired by a William Borroughs novel called CITIES OF THE RED NIGHT, and so on.
JUMP BACK is a solid collection of later-career Rolling Stones tracks, recorded while they were still at the top of their game.

Great Stones Collection.......2006-07-07
If you want to listen to the best Mick Jagger & company had to offer from the early 70s to the early 90s then this is the CD for you.
Not all the big numbers are here but there are enough to make this a "must have" Stones album, especially for those who don't want to buy all the individual albums these tunes came from.
The digital remastering sounds great and there is a good liner notes booklet too.
not the best choice of songs.......2006-05-20
This should have included SHATTERED, SHE'S SO COLD, and ONE HIT TO THE BODY, if it was a true greatest hits cd from this time period.
Mixed Emotional CD.......2006-03-11
I have Mixed Emotions about this CD compilation. Most of the Stones best songs are here during that era, although I would have liked to have seen "Can't You Hear Me Knocking?", "Monkey Man", "Shattered", "She's So Cold", or "Dance Little Sister" on it. But the biggest letdown in this CD was the editted version of the Monster Hit: "Miss You" by one minute and sixteen seconds. (the singles version) Also, "Beast of Burden","Hot Stuff", and "Fool to Cry" were each cut by almost a full minute! "Rock and A Hard Place" was also editted too. (You can hear the eight minute dance version of 'Miss You' on the "Rarities '71 to '03" CD, but that was more amusing than fantastic listening.) Overall the 'Jump Back' CD is good, but You Can't Always Get What You Want. If you did, you got me Rocking!

Hot Rocks to (almost) the Present.......2006-12-04
The basic Greatest Hits album from the Rolling Stones was "Hot Rocks," a compilation of their greatest hits from 1964-1971. A fair number of other compilations has been developed over time, but "Jump Back" is the closest thing to a Hot Rocks II (not counting their "Phased Cookies" album) that we have.
Numbers come from the albums from "Exile on Main Street" (e.g., "Tumbling Dice") and "Sticky Fingers" (e.g., "Brown Sugar") to "Steel Wheels." The CD shows that the Stones were not as productive as their first decade (in terms of great hits per year), but they were still capable of some pretty strong rock and roll. Among the rockers that are worthy of the Rolling Stones on this album are: "Start Me Up," "Brown Sugar," "Harlem Shuffle," "Tumbling Dice," "Miss You," and so on.
Needless to say, one could wonder why other songs might not have been included. Other songs strong enough to have been included: "Shattered" (one of their treasures), "Going to a Go Go," and "Twenty Flight Rock," among others. Nonetheless, this is a representative selection of top notch rock from the early 1970s on. Rolling Stones' fans will enjoy this CD.
You Know You Love 'Em!.......2006-09-04
For years my brother and sisters were telling me this was the worst band in the world. They didn't like more than a few songs by the band because they didn't like their raunchy, rowdy bar sound. As years went by, my siblings left the house, and I began to listen to everything they told me they hated. Now, the Stones aren't my favorite band, but I think I was sorely mislead. Though not still my favorite band, I really get into the Stones now and then, and now is one of those times. What fun, and what versatility! What incredible sense of style and musicianship that they have that deliberately wild sound!
Definite highlights from their 70s and 80s career? The pure classic rock bombast of "Brown Sugar," a fantastically funky remake of the "Harlem Shuffle," and the still overplayed but superior "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll."
My personal faves? The beautiful soul of "Fool to Cry," the epic rocker "Rock and a Hard Place," the disco-yet undeniably cool-swagger of "Miss You," and my absolute fave Stones ballad of all with Keith's perfect trademark guitar riff, "Waiting on a Friend."
There are a few songs on here that aren't so hot, but most of them really show the staying power of this electrifyingly rough, sensual, and entertaining band. If you're not a diehard fan, this is a great collection to go with both volumes of Hot Rocks. The Stones: Like 'em or love 'em, you have to have some in your cd collection.
A very effective overview of the Stones' 70s and 80s output.......2004-12-29
"Jump Back" is a very well assembled and reasonably well annotated overview of the Stones' 70s and 80s output. The sound is excellent, and almost everything that the casual fan could want is here. 74 minutes of tough, raunchy rock n' roll, from the gritty "Bitch" and the swaggering "Brown Sugar" to the soulful "Waiting On A Friend" and the ballad "Angie".
This well assembled retrospective really shows the depth of the Stones' collective talents, blending rock n' roll, blues, R&B, and a little bit of country into a distinctive "Stones" sound, anchored by the greatest rhythm guitarist in the business, Keith Richards.
And this is a CD, right? So you can just program out the hideous disco-experimentalism of "Emotional Rescue" and the forgettable "Undercover Of The Night".
Compare this compilation with disc two of "Forty Licks" and you'll find that "Jump Back" blows "Licks" out of the water.
Coupled with "Hot Rocks: 1964-1971" (or the magnificent box set "The London Years"), this album provides the best career overview currently available.
If you don't want to spring for the Stones' original albums, this is the way to go.
save your money.......2004-11-07
A long-time, diehard Stoner, I bought this because (probably like a lot of others) I never fully replaced all my great old Stones albums with their CD successors, and missed a few of the old songs, especially cornball novelties like "Fool to Cry" and "Hot Stuff," from the great "Black and Blue" album. Needless to say, I was greatly disappointed to find many of the songs edited and cut down. Why? I could understand in the vinyl days when you had x-amount of capacity on one side of a disc, but in the digital age there's no excuse for hacking off parts of these great songs. A less monumental annoyance: I can't explain why but the thing won't play in the iMac I have at work. I've played hundreds of discs on it with no problem but it keeps spitting out "Jump Back" and refusing to play. (Maybe the iMac doesn't like edited versions either.) I haven't had this problem with "Jump Back" on my PC at home, the car CD player, or my regular stereo, just on the iMac.
