Great D&B album. Check out the essential mix or the breezeblock mix for more.
Best DnB album ever.......2007-01-31
This is genuinely the best drum and bass album ever, in my opinion. If you listened to any DnB sets at all in 2005 or 2006, you'll almost certainly recognize every single song on this album. It's truly a remarkable blend of beautiful vocals and hardcore headbanging bass. Every song fits within the album as a whole, and at the same time they're all very different. Buy this album -- it's well worth it, even at 27 dollars.
Good Album.......2007-01-20
I'm new to the magical world of Drum and Bass with Trance as my gateway drug. I enjoy that this album has a good stylistic range; some songs are really hard and intense (Slam, Through the Loop, Tarantula) while some are not so hard and intense (Sounds of Life, Girl on Fire, Hold Your Colour). What makes this worth a rating of five to me is the consistency of quality from track to track. I don't end up skipping forward to hear the two or three good songs typically on a CD, but rather listen to the whole thing from start to finish. I highly recommend this album to those with an interest in D&B.
Coloured.......2007-01-12
I bought this CD on an impulse after listening to only one song, and it now ranks as one of the high points in my collection. Each song is distinct and lasts long past the initial "new CD feeling". "Girl in the Fire" and "Hold Your Colour" are epic, while "The Terminal" has a darker mood. "Slam" swings between hip-hop beats and techno soundscapes while the last 3 songs are all softer and surprisingly enjoyable. Vocals are employed on nearly every track, and it feels as if the music had been composed with a certain vision in mind.
Overall, a great CD, and necessary if you have even a passing interest in electronic music.
It's alright.......2007-01-08
Personally, the cd was a little too over hyped. I've heard much better dnb before. It's a good album with a bunch of solid songs on it, but there are a few that take away from the album.

Pendulum saved my life!.......2005-06-05
I am not from CCR's generation of hippies and Vietnam veterans but a twenty year old in a generation of Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys. What does this have anything to do with CCR? I don't listen to my generation's music hardly ever. I must be a born again dope smoking hippie because all I listen to is classic rock. My dad handed me down this album when I was in junior high in the late 1990s and it was my first awakening to what great music sounds like. I'm very familiar at this point with most of the music of the late 60s and 70s and I will still claim CCR's Pendumlum is one of the greatest albums of its kind from this period of rock and roll. I think what makes CCR so great is their ability to molt jamming rifts in which you can dance up and down to into sweet melodic jams in which you can chill. They do it perfectly with John Fogerty on lead guitar and his brother Tom on rhythm playing together with Stu Cook on bass and Doug Clifford on drums. I can't think of too many bands with a better combination. Pendulum is one of those albums you could probably listen to anytime of day and with any kind of mood. I guess if you're into the way harder material from that time, Pendulum might be a downer but not necessarily. I listen to Deep Purple and Zeppelin to Fleetwood Mac and Jackson Browne. I think CCR is that place in between all of these bands. I'm in love with all the songs on this album so its hard to say exactly which ones to listen to for a first glance. When I first started listening to CCR, I was definitely digging the softer sounds and the melodic tunes in music so I think I will always be more affectionate to "(Wish I could) hideaway" "It's just a thought" but jams on "Pagan Baby" and "Hey Tonight" are equally as fantastic. I know my perspective on this album compared to other CCR albums may be biased since this album was my first and it has great sentimentality attached. But there is a reason that this album converted me from the 90s back to 1970. I now listen to everything including hip hop and old country but CCR will always have me, especially this album.
CCR broadens the scope.......2003-11-30
Not as highly renowned as "Green River" or "Cosmo's Factory", "Pendulum" may need a little time to assimilate, but in time it will grow on you.
These songs aren't as immediately memorable as hit singles like "Proud Mary" or "Bad Moon Rising", but it is quite interesting to hear how John Fogerty spent time arranging, polishing, trying out new styles, adding keyboards and horns to the "classic" Creedence sound. Sure, the instrumental "Rude Awakening #2" sounds suspiciously like progressive rock, which certainly wasn't Creedence's forte, but the vast majority of these songs are excellent. Just listen to the atmospheric acoustic folk-rock of "Have You Ever Seen The Rain", the bluesy raver "Pagan Baby", the moody, organ-laden ballads "Hideaway" and "It's Just A Thought", the upbeat hard rock of "Hey Tonight" and "Molina", and the fine, funky soul of "Born To Move".
Most bands would kill for this to be their best stuff, which just goes to show what a phenomenal band Creedence really was.
Where'd the bayou go?.......2002-11-21
I really like CCR's catchy old songs about bayous, trains, and graveyards, but for my taste their albums progressively went downhill, and were close to the bottom in several respects with all albums from 1970 on, which includes "Willy And The Poor Boys," this one (from December 1970), and "Mardi Gras." This was in stark contrast to their earlier bayou era albums, where almost every song was a hit. However, although these later albums were weak in catchy songwriting and southern imagery, they were strong in other aspects. "Pagan Baby," although repetetive and uninteresting, is fairly intense, and has some of Fogerty's fastest lead guitar lines. "Born To Move," despite being very un-Creedence in style, is a surprisingly good jam with organ that sounds a bit like Santana, Eddie Harris, or Ten Years After. "Rude Awakening #2" is also very un-Creedence and has some interesting speeded up guitars and organ reminiscent of Yes. However, despite a promising start, it winds down without reaching any climax. The remaining songs are all unnoteworthy, in my opinion. I never liked the biggest hit from this album "Have You Ever Seen The Rain?" due to the ballad's vocals being raised to a high key where they distort, and its slow, boring chord progression. In summary, I liked the playing and instruments on this album, but the songwriting just doesn't cut it. They should've focused more on good songwriting, regardless of style, instead of getting distracted by showing off how many instruments they could play. Hell, if they'd pursued their Santana and Yes directions that they started on this album, they might've reached unprecedented new heights instead of disbanding, although their contract with Fantasy Records may well have been hurting the band at this point, sad to say.

Underrated Album.......2006-09-19
This was CCR's final album with all four guys before Tom left. While it is not up there with Green River and Cosmos Factory, it still is a good album to listen to. Here is a breakdown of all the songs:
1) Pagan Baby - 6.5/10 - a ok rocker. Not one of their best for it is quite repetitive & a bit long, but still ok to listen to.
2) Sailor's Lament - 8/10 - John Fogerty always tried new things and this song is one. It is not a classic song, but still it is catchy & enjoyable to listen to.
3) Chameleon - 8/10 - I've heard this song is about Tom Fogerty. It is a hard-driving rocker and a bit better than Sailor's Lament.
4) Have You Ever Seen the Rain - 9.5/10 - The best song on the album. This is John Fogerty at his best and the band makes it a classic.
5) Wish I Could Hide Away - 8/10 - Another very underrated song. It seems Fogerty was feeling the strain of a band breaking apart and he delivers an emotional performance in singing this song.
6) Born To Move - 6.5/10 - Another subpar rocker. I felt the instrumental at the end too long and the song though catchy, lacks something. Maybe just too simple lyrically.
7) Hey Tonight - 8.5/10 - Another classic song. There is a reason this was a hit song; it is very good and still sounds great all these years later.
8) It's Just a Thought - 8.5/10 - A very reflective song that works very well.
9) Molina - 9/10 - I love this song. It is so catchy and has some great sax playing in it.
10) Rude Awakening #2 - 4/10 - It is too bad this album ends on such a poor song. One of the worst Fogery has written. It starts out ok, but then turns into a very tedious instrumental.
Despite the last song, this album is worth having. On a final note, the sound quality is wonderful. The remastering of the CCR albums blows away those old vinyl records & early CD versions.
When the music's loud, I can't get enough........2005-08-19
At its time, this album seemed weaker than previous CCR albums. Maybe--but any record that encompasses the nearly punk starkness of "Molina" and the gorgeous yearning of "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" is none too shaby.
Remembering a good friend from Miami.......2005-07-20
I used to own this album back in the 70's when it was first released. This was one of my favorite bands; I had almost all of their albums. My favorite song is Chameleon. Why? Because, it reminds me of a guy from Miami (Roque Alvariño) better known as the Chameleon from Miami, he was so infatuated with this song that he even bought a set of real chameleons with the record and took them home to live with him. Most of the songs are good in this album but the chronicles vol.1 & 2 are the best, although my friend the chameleon would probably not agree with me due to the fact that the song chameleon is not included. This band was great. Buy buy it!
Nice.......2004-03-05
This is a solid 4-star CD: very good with respect to both the music and the quality of recording. Very good indeed. It's far better than most of the "music" produced nowadays.
A Masterpiece in the Lexicon of Musical 'Disappointments'.......2002-02-20
Every recording artist, at one point or another, has had their "disappointment;" an album or other work that either doesn't sell well, yet is praised by critics...or sells well yet critics despise it...or neither at all. For instance; Bruce Springsteen had his "The Ghost Of Tom Joad," Genesis had their "Calling All Stations," and even Led Zeppelin had their "III."
Creedence Clearwater Revival's 1971 album "Pendulum" was no exception. During its time, the album fell into the category of being [relatively] commercially successful, reaching Gold status, but it was coldly received by critics. After five smash hit albums that were greeted with critical warmth and high album sales, not to mention almost a dozen gold singles, critics began to predict CCR's end; tensions between the Fogerty brothers, John and Tom, were rising, as the rhythm section of Stu Cook and Doug Clifford began arguing for equal composing rights (those demands would be met on their next and last album). Somehow, the critics disgarded "Pendulum" as a disappointment, lacking the fire of CCR's previous recordings. And though the set contained a gold single, 'Have You Ever Seen The Rain?'/'Hey Tonight', "Pendulum" was not received with praise.
However, I believe that this album is a solid flow of great music and poetic lyrics that should not be ignored. At least four tracks on "Pendulum" are essential parts of CCR's legacy; 'Have You Ever Seen The Rain,' 'Hideaway,' 'It's Just A Thought,' and 'Hey Tonight' seem to tell their own stories of the history of the band. If there is anything marginally close to a flaw, it is the excessive use of the organ. But even that is not a flaw by quality, but by its break from CCR's tradition of rockabilly and southern creoles.
"Pendulum" is classic rock at its best, not just in the category of 'disappointments', but of anything ever produced. A necessity in any collection of a fan of true classic music.

Wildly influential four-piece Sonic Youth have self-released their version of a tribute to the 20th century: two discs of noisy interpretations of modern, experimental classical scores. The group has chosen composers whose works leave a great amount of innovation open to the performer. This chance-embracing approach--typified and in some senses originated by John Cage--is one of the crucial turning points of "new" music. What's great about this CD is that it demonstrates the freewheeling, decidedly unserious spirit behind this music, essentially combining the legacies of punk rock and out-sound. In addition to three late works by the chance-loving Cage, there are pieces by current Merce Cunningham collaborator Takehisa Kosugi, minimalist giant Steve Reich, "deep-listening" drone lover Pauline Oliveros, and Fluxus founder George Maciunas. Longtime collaborator Wharton Tiers, the young everything-ist Jim O'Rourke, and even some of the composers themselves join in on these exercises. The result is messy, fun, and anarchic, with occasional revelations (notably James Tenney's "Having Never Written a Note for Percussion"). It's not a disc to play all the time, but it is a challenging, enthused record that ideally will point listeners toward some of the most vital music of the last half of the last decade of the second millennium. --Mike McGonigal
Album Description

The CD format is a double disc set that's enhanced with the CD-ROM video to George Maciunas' 'Piano Piece #13 (Carpenter's Piece) For Nam June Paik'. Customer Reviews:
a tribute with poor feedbacks.......2006-04-14
The best thing with this product is undoubtly the names to whom it is contributed. One should really sincerely appreciate the good taste of SY to lift up and include such grand modern masteur composers as Wolff, Cardew, Cage and etc. Less successful however is the attempt to translate these 40 or so years old, mainly score, compositions and replace their original instrumentations and to attempt to change their structure to "rock".
Sometimes it does get endurable but at other times it completely falls out to miss the mark. Even if Wolff himself appears at times and also the renowned Marclay contributes it doesn't even come close to the originals at any time. It may be said that some of the tracks more demolishes than recaptures them.
Most of those who reviews here or rate are diehard SY fans and would probably give five stars to anything that SY put out, whatever it is. If they recorded an album of silence in hommage to Cage they would give it five stars too and call it great and important and other such stuff. We all know how that works, it is just sensual and silly.
But for those with commited interest in the musical field that is quite so misrepresented here it is but foolish to give this set of recordings too much attention.
Better is to try to get the original recordings themselves, or to get recent re-recordings of these, such like of California Ear Unit or Ars Nova ensemble etc. Pass this thing if you already know the composers work, and if you're new to these composers through this release, get the originals and compare.
I wish I could give three stars for this project, but I can't, the structures are too much weakened and the whole original soundwalls are too much torn down. If one wish to perform these works, which may not be too easy, than one should learn how to do so properly first. Otherwise, write a book...
"Keep it new".......2005-04-03
I came across this CD at my local library while searching for the works of Cornelius Cardew. My only criticism is that liner notes were not included. Liner notes would have been appreciated not only as explanations of this admittedly esoteric music, but as an opportunity for the performers to respond to potential criticism and explain their intentions. They are to be commended for taking the risk of alienating their commercial base with this collection of recent aleatoric compositions and performance art. The other reviews merely prove the point that despite their posturing, many fans of popular music are as conservative and hidebound as their great-grandparents, uncomfortable in their day with any composers after Brahms. A scan of the FM dial reveals little change in popular music over the past 50 years - lots of 3-minute songs in 4/4 time. Witness the proliferation of stations endlessly broadcasting the same 1960s to 1980s standards.
For this audience, this CD is just what was needed - a slap in the face of convention. If this sparks in anyone an interest in searching for "what else is out there," the exercise will have been well worth the effort.
Classical avant-garde experimentalism from.....a rock band?.......2004-11-21
It's hard to believe, but it's true.
The 4th CD in the SYR experimental series (titled Goodbye 20th Century, appropriatly) of Sonic Youth Records, is a fantastic double album soundscape of the finest kind. The CD has reinterpretations of post 50's era classical pieces (by such illustrious names as John Cage, Steve Reich, Christian Wolff), and they sound great for the most part. But Sonic Youth was not alone in recording this double album. They enlisted the help of many people, like Jim O'Rourke, Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon's daughter Coco Hayley Gordon Moore (who screams out Yoko Ono's Voice Piece for Soprano), and...surprisingly...Christian Wolff collaborates on his pieces with the band. There are many other contributors, but I can't recall them at the moment.
Judging from all the other tracks, the one that stands out the most (to me, anyway) is Pauline Oliveros' Six For New Time (composed specifically for this project). Thurston intones lyrics over rising and falling drone guitars. Genius. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of other tracks that are as great, such as Steve Reich's Pendulum Music (swinging microphones over amps, creating a pendulum effect of feedback), and George Maciunas' Piano Piece #13 (hammering down the keys of a piano till they no longer produce sound).
The centerpiece of the album, though, is John Cage's Four6. There are 2 other John Cage songs on the album (Six, performed twice) but this one stands out the most. It may seem like random banging and aimless instrumental wandering, but give it a chance, and it will slowly reveal its beauty.
Overall, this album is a fantastic piece of avant-garde, and will certainly entertain the artier person in you.
If you enjoy this record, why not try other CD's in the SYR series, Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music, or seek out the works of the composers on this album?
Can you guess what it is yet?.......2004-06-11
Well this is one Sonic Youth's more experimental releases ( if you hadn't gathered by now ) and it's fair to say that this is a challenging listen. You'll need to keep your wits about you and a sense of humour to contain this on first listen. It's quite possibly one of those " gets on your nerves " sort of album at first albums. But give it time and you appreciate the album that it sets out to be. You're not going to absolutely love this but you can enjoy it for what it is or yank it out of your stereo system and criticize Sonic Youth as bulls**t poseurs. It all means the same thing - nothing!
lost me as a fan.......2003-03-10
i used to love sy. during the washing machine tour they played the academy friday night, saturday afternoon for matinee and saturday night. i was at all three shows. i saw them a lollapalooze twice. the thousand leaves show at irving plaza? i was front row. those days are gone.
i had the first syr disc and liked it. not great but it was ok. after that this band died. maybe my tastes change and i mourning this whole thing because i truly was proud to be an sy fan. i felt they were alive here and now and i got to enjoy them now. not like beatles fans or zepplin fans who can no longer see them live. i mourn the loss of the smashing pumpkins, the death of kurdt cobain, the death of mia zappata, death of layne staley, breakup of soundgarden, as well as many other bands i adore so for me to love sy and they are still here and making vibrant music meant alot.
then they came out with the syr discs. i liked the first a little but after that, this disc, the 4th in this series, i was forced to leave my fanship behind. this dics is long, boring, to long, uninterseting and way too long. 30 minutes for one song which interests me not at all is too much to ask.
i see their new direction and like it not. it is pretentious in the worst way. aimless, drifting, and uninteresting. like i said, someone email me and explain me what is so good about this

Haunting, amazing... TOTO's unforgettable "Dune" .......2007-06-08
Regardless of your personal feelings towards David Lynch's cinematic adaptation of Frank Herbert's science fiction (I personally enjoyed it very much, even moreso after reading the books), this is an amazing soundtrack, and this is the best version of it available on CD.
A worthy addition to any collection. Beautiful!
A Very Classic Toto.......2007-03-03
After announcing Toto was going to compose the music for David Lynch's "Dune", I was not that happy because in a previous Dino-De-Laurentiis-sci-fi epic named "Flash Gordon", the music by Queen was not something that I really cherished; in fact, I think Queen's music was one of the flaws of that movie.
Gosh, how I loved being mistaken about Toto's "Dune". When I first saw the movie, and heard the music in the interim, I discovered a marvelous composition in the vein of old Hollywood film scoring tradition. I wasn't expecting to hear Toto in a classic mood, together with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. What an incredible surprise!!!
The "Prologue/Main Title" is very mysterious and it covers the mysticism of Frank Herbert's wondrous world of "Dune". And to continue such mysteries you should as well listen to tracks like 'Guild Report', 'House Atreides', 'Departure', and 'The Trip To Arrakis'. There are nice moments like 'Leto's Theme' and the love theme as heard in 'Take My Hand'. And I don't want to forget the action music because 'Sandworm Attack', 'First Attack', 'Big Battle', and 'Paul Kills Feyd' are truly spectacular tracks. And this Toto score wouldn't be Toto at all if we don't have the pop-flavored tracks 'Dune (Desert Theme)' and 'Take My Hand'. Outstanding.
It's too bad that Brian Eno's 'Prophecy' does not appear in this "complete" score (it did appear in the original Polydor release). However, I'm pleased that Toto did such a superb job in creating the fantastic musical voice of the Atreides, the Harkonnen, the Fremen, all those fantastic characters created by Frank Herbert. Great CD!!!
Best Soundtrack Ever Released!.......2006-06-26
If anyone listens to TOTO albums and reads up on the band, you'll see that they can handle any type of music with ease. Their parents were involved in Film Scores and T.V aswell as individual members of the band before they had a record deal. With this in mind you wonder what they would do if they were allowed to cut loose without the restraints of having to produce an AOR album for their fans. Being classically trained and having music in their DNA, (hey there's nothing wrong with galloping nepotism when you're this good) surely didn't hurt them when they were asked to deliver a Classical Rock Soundtrack. To say they deliver is an understatement. The semi-religious themes in the film are matched perfectly by TOTO's bombastic and perfectly magisterial approach. They go straight for the jugular with oppresive, medieval sounding synth, epic, razor sharp drumming and tortuous percussion. Even the strings are viciously arranged and played out. Need we mention Lukather's gloriously inspirational guitar playing here, his work is perfectly suited to this kind of Genre. There's nothing neutral about the arrangements or execution whatsoever. Now, reading this you can probably tell I'm not an expert on Classical music, but I do have an extensive collection and listen to the great Composers on occasion. I also have an extensive collection of Film Soundtracks. The one thing that strikes me as being unfair is when some sad person accuses the band of stealing from other Composers. I'm sorry to say, but even the Beatles and Led Zeppelin are very open about who they've ripped off. Every major soundtrack release you listen to; whether it's Star Wars or E.T has moments where you would be deaf not to guess who the overly respected Film Scorer has borrowed from. The truth is that people are simply jealous of the musical credentials of this band. No other rock group could tackle this kind of project seriously and succed with such applomb. An example is Queen with Flash Gordon. The music was as ridiculous as the film and had to be played completely tongue in cheek. What thrills me about this album when compared with other Film Soundtracks is the expert blending of three or four musical disciplines brought together as a hybrid and made to gell seamlessley into a cohesive whole. This is simply the most exciting mix of classical, mystical rock and fusion you can find. In fact one of the ex-members, (Steve Porcaro) now devotes his time solely to film work. Paich also continues to dabble in film projects. All I can say is that those non entities who dismiss this soundtrack should all be exposed for the red faced burners they are. An interesting piece of Trivia. The third lead singer of TOTO was the son of John Williams. Go figure......!
"Riding The Sandworm".......2006-03-22
Why has 'Dune' the '84 released sci-fi classic had such a troubled history? This is true not only for the DVD release of the film, but of Toto's inspired musical score on CD as well.
If you're reading this review and wondering if this is the CD version to purchase look no further, this is the one for you! Containing -32 tracks-, sixteen of them previously unreleased, the ultimate 'Dune' musical experience awaits you! So turn up the stereo, turn off the lights, start your thumper and prepare to "Ride the Sandworm" once again!
WARNING: This CD is OOP so get it while you can!
Wonderful Classical/Pop Experience By Toto & Friends........2003-03-10
I just received this CD this weekend & continue to be amazed by the versatility of Toto. I saw them in concert in 1978 & have been a fan ever since. This is some of their most unique work - a collection of classical works, composed by Toto & recorded with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. It it unlike anything you have, or probably will ever hear in the future. Jeff Porcaro is masterful as the creator & composer of the percussion score - it is a thing of beauty. My favorite pieces are the #28 Dune (Desert Theme) & #30 Take My Hand. They are songs which will stay with you long after the stereo has been turned off, as other reviewers have said also. If you are a fan of rock & roll only, you will probably not like this collection. If you like Toto & enjoy classical works & other unique musical endeavors, this one is for you - I highly recommend it.

IF WE WEREN'T WHO WE WERE.......2004-10-28
Tennessee Slim is the BOMB because Star Kitty had her Revenge. And while the Amoeba cleansed the Syndrome, the Pendulum was Vibin. So starts the creation of one of the greatest Funkateers of the era who came when the world was not ready for her. Stange in her way of the time of this CD she was lost among the more popular sounds but not to be ignored by those who do not follow the sounds of the norm.
I loved this creation back when it was first released. Im so glad that i found it again. "Memories" take you back to a place that u thought u might have forgotten, when in all actuallity you forgot to forget. However if u did forget then what have actually may happened was that u never knew. Find yourself lost and found again with the beautiful sounds of "Fatal Lovesick Journey" and then come out to face the "Sunshine & the Rain"
This is a tru work of art for those that love the sounds of Erykah Badu, D'Angelo, Outkast, Goodie MOB,- people of that nature. we all know who they are. It's kinda sad to kno that such great artistry is ignored. They would exist now, but would they be who they are without the STAR KITTY?
I LOVE YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH.......2004-10-14

JOI IS BRILLIANT, I'M A FAN FOREVER AND WILL ALWAYS LOVE JOI AND HER MUSIC!FATAL LOVESICK JOURNEY IS THE BEST SONG FOLLOWING MANY OTHERS!
Sunshine And The Rain........2002-05-02
The above mentioned track is the best song on this masterful debut album. The rest of "Pendulum Vibe" is stunning as well, but the Dallas Austin produced "Sunshine...." is the crown jewel on this LP. I actually own the maxi-single version of this song and it features a 12-minute version that totally de-constructs the groove, the beat and that booming, hypnotic bassline revealing the true genius of Joi and her collaborators. I also happen to own a pristine, bootleg copy of "Ameoba Cleansing Syndrome" from 1996 that wasn't released, but would have surely kicked her competitors a**es back to music school! It's a lost masterpiece and the music world would have been a better place for it's existence. This mid-90's debut however is an ample sampling of her vocal brilliance ("Narcissa Cutie Pie") and lyrical gifts ("Fatal Lovesick Journey") and was probably too artistic for pedestrian, mainstream tastes, hence it's cult status, but for us music addicts, it's another hit of the good stuff. Go Get It.

Even better than I expected!.......2006-01-09
This is my first Lowen and Navarro cd - heard them on xm radio's The Loft and had to investigate further. I've had it three days and have already ordered my next two, and have researched opportunities to hear them live in concert. The voices and harmonies are breathtaking, the lyrics speak intelligently to the human condition, and somehow I get the feeling I would really "like" these guys. If you are reading this, you are considering a purchase. I urge you to buy it - you won't be sorry!
Excellent listen.......2003-05-17
If you are unfamiliar with the work of L&N, this is as good a place as any to get acquainted. While they may never achieve "main stream" popularity, their work is well worth your time. Simply put, the best endorsement I can give this album is, "It doesn't get old." Its replay value is very high, and feels like a comfortable old shirt each time you put it on. I highly recommend this, its a great place to start an introduction to Lowen & Navarro.
I Bought Every Album I Could Find.......2001-03-01
Lowen & Navarro came out of the so-called Paisley Underground that also produced the like-minded Bangles. L&N make excellent folk rock, differentiated from the pack by their superb singing and harmonizing. L&N mix upbeat, lively music with sorrowful introspective lyrics. It's a devastating combination. They are similar to any number of sixties folkies; Crosby, Stills And Nash, Simon & Garfunkel, Peter Paul And Mary, but they remind of no one so much as Brewer & Shipley (of `One Toke Over The Line' fame). This is music you can listen to all day. Sample lyrics:`...I had a teacher and he led me through the jungle, but where was he when I crumbled into pieces of clay, when I tried to put my best face on you know the damn thing always fit me wrong, too bad you got nothing, nothing to say..'. This is a band that I would expect to be all over the adult alternative charts, but somehow, they aren't! What fools these radio people are! All the tracks are excellent, but especially notable are `Looks Like Sunshine', `Pendulum', `Cry' and 'Until The Well Runs Dry'. I also recommend their other excellent albums WALKING ON A WIRE and BROKEN MOON
