    5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2007-05-12

After hearing bits and pieces of this CD playing at Gymboree when we would go and play I always thought that that the tunes were catchy. I ordered it and when you listen to it at home, it really makes you sing along. My 11 month old also dances to the beat! I highly recommend it.

3 out of 5 stars some really good songs,,,and then some others.......2007-03-07

I have been trying to find a fun kids' CD for me and my boys. This one was recommended- a couple of the songs are really catchy and fun (we listen to two of the songs over and over again). But, I definitely don't like the majority of the songs. Some just don't sound like kids' music. I would like to hear the other CDs in this collection, hoping that the others might have a greater number of upbeat, fun songs for kids.

5 out of 5 stars Every Kid Needs This............2002-04-29

Working in radio for 10 years, I never experience the joy of music until this cd came along!!! As a Christian mother, I always check my child's music before I allow him or her to listen it. This is a great way to get the old classic's redone in a NEW and FRESH "hip" kind of way! Way to go to the makers of this album! YOU TRULY ROCK!

4 out of 5 stars Some rock, some roll, some hard, some heavy.......2007-04-04

A look through the tracklisting will probably settle the debate for diehard fans as to whether they want this. And to Queen experts such as they I've probably got little to say to em' given they probably know more about the band than me. But newcomers, read on.

But I really feel that this album was aimed at the generic music fan who wasn't familiar with the Queen catalogue in depth. Now to me Queen is a band you have to make up your own mind about. For example my brother is an addict, wheras I'm a casual user only. So rather than trying to encapsulate the recordings here or give a track by track synopsis I'll just give a few ideas that may be of help to the newcomer.

This album has a fair whack of rockers, as the name suggests. Megahits like We Will Rock You and rollicking tunes such as Tie Your Mother Down and Sheer Heart Attack make this a great rock 'n' roll collection. While I'd question a couple of tracks and the exclusion of a few others this album succeeds in it's role of reeling in the newcomer, it's really hard to resist the energy of many of these songs. The reason why isn't just the tunes but what they represent. Rockers from the spectrum of Queen releases are here from the aforementioned Sheer Heart Attack to the latter day Headlong. Which means the casual music fan can hear tunes from most eras of Queen and that they retained some fire in the belly through most of their career. Not that this is heavy metal, but it is very livey rock music. At least this collection gives some credit to their rockin' moments - hey it wasn't all Radio Ga Ga and I Want to Break Free.

Apart from the community service of underlying for a new generation how great Queen could be when they dusted off their rock 'n' roll boots it also hangs together well which is a testament to fine production techniques throughout their career and attention to the sequencing of the tracks. Lyrics to the whole shebang as well as notes on each track re: credits, producers and parent album is also to be commended and the inclusion of the final tune - No One But You - is a cool touch.

A great guy (yeah yeah it ain't got Rhapsody - but don't you own that already on some rock compilation disc?) and one that should tell you if Queen are a band you want to explore further.

5 out of 5 stars Superb compilation album .......2007-01-24

An absolutely superb compilation album combining some of Queen's best known hits like the anthemic We Will Rock You (1977), the rollicking Fat Bottomed Girls (1978) and Queen's first entry into the charts-Seven Seas Of Rhye (1974), with some of Queen's brillaint but underrated works, like hard-rocker Stone Cold Crazy (1974), Keep Yourself Alive (1973) and the high energy Sheer Heart Attack (1977), as well as latter day hits like the funky Put Out The Fire (1982), Tear It Up (1984) and One Vision (1986).
A good introduction after the Greatest Hits albums.

    5 out of 5 stars Queen Rocks.......2006-11-08

este disco recopilatorio de Queen es bueno ya que recoge temas de rock al estilo de Queen interpretado por el gran Freddie Mercury que tal voz por Dios pareciera que estuviera vivo todavía
no debe faltar este disco en tu colección de discos compralo now

4 out of 5 stars Great compilation with a few minor flaws.......2006-01-03

As this compilation clearly proves, Queen's most well known songs may have been their pop singles but this band could really ROCK. Tracks like "We Will Rock You", "Tie Your Mother Down", "I Want It All", and "Hammer To Fall" are among my personal favorites and they are all here (and in full album versions or as hybrid single/album versions like with "I Want It All"). Some other lesser known gems on this compilation include "Stone Cold Crazy", "Sheer Heart Attack", "It's Late", and the "Rocks Retake" of "I Can't Live With You" (far superior to the version on the "Innuendo" album).

I would have given this 5 stars if not for a few small nitpicks:

    1) Though a touching tribute to their departed lead singer Freddie Mercury, "No One But You (Only The Good Die Young)" does not belong on this collection because it is a pop ballad. They should have saved it exclusively for "Greatest Hits III" and used it as the single to promote that release. They could (and should) have used the aforementioned "I Can't Live With You" as the single to promote this release.

    2) "Seven Seas of Rhye" also does not belong here because it is more of a pop song. "Princes of The Universe" definitely should have been on this compilation instead.

    3) What's with the "click" at the start of "Fat Bottomed Girls"? It may be only for a brief second but it really annoys me whenever I listen to that song on this compliation.

    5 out of 5 stars Awesome Collection.......2005-04-19

This is very Definitely a great selection of QUEEN'S heavier side. However, it is not a "stripped down" version of Queen's audio work. We Will rock, Hammer to Fall, and etc., are all layered guitar works. The Brilliance of QUEEN lay in this over the top working of just about anything they did. In this respect they were worlds ahead of their time. The multiple guitars come into their own in the world of multi channel recordings. The real kicker about what Brian Did, is that he could achieve a semblance of the multi-layer sound in live concerts with an effect that allowed him to play over lines he did ( as in the solo in WE WILL ROCK YOU on dvd, WEMBLEY, and one other concert).
There is never anything simple about what QUEEN did, except that they appealed to many on a raw level. Their work is deceptively simple in fact. Even the dropped tuning on the bass guitar for fat bottomed girls sounds superb.
It's a compilation, but hell, is it brilliant. And ONLY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG is so very true, and such a brilliant piece by the remnant of QUEEN.
Freddy Lives on in his recordings. A Master Craftsman taken too early, and an interpreter of the collective consciousness of QUEEN that was intense, subtle, beautiful, and totally original.

3 out of 5 stars A century of British art songs to delight those who love them.......2006-06-26

These 53 songs have been collected by Naxos from their extensive acquisitions from Collins Classics, and perhaps other British sources now out of business. There's a steady cottage industry, year after year, producing the typical English art song, which is usually based on folk songs, but even in more modern idioms is profuondly conservative and nostaligic. Half these songs, not to mention half the composers, are totally unknown to American audiences, but the familiar names of Vaughan Williams and Britten represent high quality, and the lesser lights, such as Warlock and Quilter, are mainstays in this repertoire.

I'd challenge all but the most addicted listener to make it through more than ten songs at a sitting, and many of these pieces are tepid, offering comfort rather than inspiration. The singers are among the best, but Graham Johnson and Steuart Beford, who do most of the accompaniments, are lackluster. I know that won't be a popular comment, yet if you compare any of these songs with rendiitons done by Janet Baker, John Shirley-quirk, and most recently Bryn Terfel and Ian Bostridge, you immediately notice how much more intensity and drama is pesent than htis colleciton reveals.

      5 out of 5 stars Awesome blues!.......2005-08-22

This disc is one of the most stellar live compilation blues CD's released in a LONG LONG time. Everything about it says that Bott painstakingly labored over every aspect of this package -- especially the interesting stories that personalize each song, all the players, and the venues where many of the songs were recorded. If you are a fan of the blues, you'll be blown away by these tracks! Though the tracks are in fact from several different analog sources (mainly cassette tapes) kudos to Bott on having the courage to put out such diverse recordings. They show a true understanding of what 'the blues' is all about -- how live and improvised performances are integral to its tradition and history. If you are a real blues fan, then there is no way on earth this CD will let you down! That being said, fans of seriously good music played by exceptional musicians will also enjoy this CD.

If you like what has become the norm -- watered-down "slick" recordings with no soul, feeling or improvisation -- then don't buy this CD! But, if you want to step out of the box , take a journey side-stepping back in time to places where music was live and being created on the spot, then give this CD a listen. It promises to bring you into the very rooms where these performances went down. You'll feel as if you were there sipping a beer, downing a shot and cheering on the band with your friends by your side!

      4 out of 5 stars I want more .......2005-08-14

Throughout all his years of gigs drumming with Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers and most recently the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Jimi Bott, like so many other musicians, has a vast collection of his bootleg live performances. For this CD, Jimi has gone into his private collection for some of his finest vintage recordings. There are seven special moments with Mighty Flyers from 1987 to 1992 to accurately capture all the raw energy of that nightly West coast blues explosion. On the first song, he's nailing a sharp, double shuffle behind Rod's chromatic work on "The Eliminator." This is a brilliant reminder of how Rod starts off every show with high flyin', over the top energy. Bott's next song, "That's What You Do to Me," is a rare Mighty Flyer treat from 1987 with Junior Watson on guitar. This song comes from one of Bott's first gigs with the Flyers, a Battle of the Harmonicas in San Francisco. The crowd noise picked up by the tiny recorded adds to the authenticity.
No Flyer show was complete without Bott and Honey doin' a brilliant drum piano surge. Here, Jimi shares two of those moments. Instead of pressing songs we all know, Bott asked Honey for something unique and she responded with "The Bumble Boogie/The Nutcracker" medley. It's pure classical meets boogie woogie with an Alex Schultz guitar bridge holdin' it together. Bott and Honey recreate the big bands of the 1930's on Louis Prima's "Sing, Sing, Sing." And Alex Schultz's "Jam Up" is a favorite to be played over and over because it perfectly captures the spontaneity of the Mighty Flyers. the final Flyers' song ends the CD with the Piazza's deepest blues, "Ah'w Baby" from 1990. The two Fabulous Thunderbird tunes with Kim Wilson show off Bott's drums on the world-wide stage. He include his own song "Cheap Thrills" from 1996 with Kid Ramos, and another, "I'd Rather Be Blind, Crippled, and Crazy," from 2002 with Ramos and new T-Bird guitarist Kirk Fletcher. Bott's very personal liner notes offer intimate looks into the music and people that have shaped him. Remember that these songs were recorded live, so while there is no studio perfection, there is that live passion and energy we fans go out night after night to be part of. Can't wait for Vol. 2.

      2 out of 5 stars Skip It!.......2005-06-03

While I don't like to trash another musician's work, I must say in all honesty that this CD is neither worth the $16 or the two to three week wait. In hindsight, I wished I had heeded the warnings of "raw analog recordings" and "never before released tracks," Generally, those are code words for noisy, inconsistent and otherwise poor sound quality not otherwise suitable for release. In some instances, the quality of this CD is lower than some bootlegs. This CD fits the rule that if the songs are good enough to be released they would have been, long ago. The crowd's chatter and idle conversation during the performance are very audible and distracting. Moreover, the sound quality varies from track to track due in part to the fact that the CD picks up songs recorded at different times and in different places. Jim Bott, apparently needing a buck, lists his telephone number on the back as 1-800-BUY-MY-CD. I gave him $16. Don't make the same mistake.
