Some Great Classic Guitar Shredding.......2003-11-17
This release contains 2 classic Foghate album's, their 1978 release "Stone Blue" which was their 7th studio album, and their 1979 release "Boogie Motel" which was their 8th studio album. First off we have the "Stone Blue" album which has great hard rocking cuts like "Easy Money", "Stay With Me", "Chevrolet" and a huge late 70's radio hit for them in "Stone Blue". This album also contains a good cover of the blues classic "Sweet Home Chicago." Next up is the "Boogie Motel" album which had one of their lighter songs in "Third Time Lucky (First Time I Was A Fool)" and was a decent hit single also. "Boogie Motel" also featured some good heavy rockers like "Nervous Release", "Love In Motion", "Who's Been Sleeping In My Bed" and the epic jam "Boogie Motel". To those not familiar with the band, or those who may only know them from their bigest hit "Slow Ride", do check this pair of classic albums out if you like that song since it really is some of the best classic rock ever put out, the late Lonesome Dave and Rod Price were always a great guitar team and Roger Earl was and still is an incredible drummer.
Foghat at Fifteen Rocked.......2000-04-09
Go buy this cd now! Foghat never put out a bad tune and these are some of their best without a doubt. For those of you that don't know, Lonsome Dave Peverett died of a heart attack a couple of months back. He was the voice and soul of the band. I would have to disagree with the gentleman about "Third Time Lucky". The melodies and harmonies in this song touch the soul of the teenager I used to be (20 yrs ago) and take me right back. It's a beautiful thing! Other than that, we're on the same page. Foghat rocks! These two albums are timeless and listenable for years past and to come. Give them a listen, you won't be disappointed. sammy66
Stone Blue-Boogie Motel Rocks.......2000-02-12
Stone Blue and Boogie Motel are two of my favorite Foghat albums, check out "Easy Money" from the Stone Blue album and "Nervous Release" from Boogie Motel those 2 songs really rock, plus the song "Stone Blue" is my all time favorite Foghat tune, there's not a bad song on either album, check it out!
Overlooked Classic.......2000-02-10
Foghat is one of the most underrated rock bands there ever was. Never cared much for their pop hits, but hidden on their albums are some real gems that have inexplicably escaped the recognition and appreciation they deserve. Foremost among these, in my opinion, is the last cut on the second side of Boogie Motel- "Nervous Release". This song WILL rock you to the core! High-speed hypnotic rhythm, searing guitars and counterpoint bass- it's got it all, including a stunning interlude and reprise that'll have you up out of your seat air-guitaring like it's 1979. This is rock & roll in its primal form- raw power and damn the torpedoes without sacrificing melody for volume. Get this one- rock on!
I base thison the vinyl of Boogie Motel and CD of Stone Blue.......1999-11-28
Foghat's album STONE BLUE has been available on CD for several years now thanks to the good folks at Rhino records, but the real gem of this item is BOOGIE MOTEL. Although BOOGIE MOTEL went gold when it was initially released in 1979, this was not enough to persuade Rhino to re-release that album in addition to the others they have made available. Therefore, this review is based on the CD of STONE BLUE and a second hand record copy of BOOGIE MOTEL.
Foghat is one of the most consistent bands I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. The STONE BLUE album is filled with their usual blues rock sound, and contains some of the band's best lyrics. The band said they intended STONE BLUE as a concept album telling the story of a man who runs from the law, but eventually settles in a new city where the love of a woman makes him change his ways. The songs "Stone Blue," "Chevrolet," and "Stay With Me," are the best cuts to listen to on this fine album, but don't take the concept hype too seriously.
BOOGIE MOTEL is another solid album. It contains one weak song ("Third Time Lucky," which ironically was the radio hit on this album), but the good of the many outweighs the one by far. The first side of the original record (songs 1-4)seemed to be songs written from the point of view of a man who's always gettin' cheated on in love. The second side (5-7) is just your good ole raunchy Foghat tunes about sex. The second side is by far the most fun (although don't miss track 1, "Somebody's Been Sleepin' In My Bed"). The title song is by far Foghat's most underated song ever.
I strongly recommend this release to anyone who groans when Kurt "Whiny Rich Guy" Cobain's music comes on the radio. Foghat is for people who remember that rock and roll is about having fun and good musicianship.
