The Things People Do For Money..........2006-07-24
Youd be hard pressed to find "Steely Dan" in this soundtrack, and youll only see a glimmer of it-in the content. The Dan has a way of speaking for the underdog and acknowledging our dirty tricks at the same time, and they dont fail to do it in these songs. However you will find yourself laughing at Donald Fagens voacls on the first track. The final song "When it Rains" is worth the whole album, but the rest of it is just tolerable.
preflight Dan that will rock your world.......2004-06-24
BUY THIS CD IMMEDIATELY AND HAVE IT SHIPPED FEDERAL F**KING EXPRESS.
I had this album on vinyl and the old cover clearly stated that this was not being presented as a Steely Dan album but was of obvious significance to anyone who liked the "real" albums.
There are cheesoid moments and ancient production values, on the other hand I LIKE music from the late 60s/early 70s. And the music is excellent. The songs are not fully-formed Steely Dan compositions, but a kind of molten proto-Dan on a high boil, the vitality of the playing and singing and, really, the unhesitant excitement and energy throughout the whole album that just makes you tap your feet or get up and dance around the room, it's incredibly great driving music.
If you're a Steely Dan fan (or know one) and are still seeking the source of the Nile past compilations like "Stone Piano" and one or two other CDs of rarities, this is IT, this is like the lightning bolt that hit a mineral deposit and sparked life on Earth. Or the mother lode the prospector in Treasure Of The Sierra Madre located -- this album is on a par with the unvarnished version of "Sun Mountain" off the crucial Citizen collection (all the old Dan albums plus a few tasty extras), cut straight from the heart of God and available from your pals @ amazon.com for a meagre sum.
You really ought to hear this album. Not the apex for Steely Dan but an early summit from which the rest of the route could be seen... really from this album through to Royal Scam, they were unstoppable. Some of the best rock music ever recorded. Terrific album. Buy it.
for the Die-Hard Fan.......2002-08-24
I go to Hear the Music for this Film&while there were some moments nothing quite Captures what is yet to come from them later on there Career's.now Steely Dan&Richard Pryor are a Heck of a Fit for me.I Dig there Genius&thought-Provoking Vibe.wish they could have gotten back together when both were in there Creative Peaks? nevertheless the Music here has some interesting elements.
Becker & Fagen "Walk it like they talk it!".......2000-11-05
You gotta walk it like you talk it, is one of those long lost jems that wasn't a huge hit when it came out and had a way of falling to the wayside. This has happened to a lot of records, but to have it happen to this one is truly a shame. Luckly it is being reissued and what memories it brings back! The title cut along with "Dog eat Dog" and "If it rains" all would make great Steely Dan songs and my only regret is I never got to see the film that this sound track came from! If you're even a mild Steely Dan fan you should really enjoy this one!
it's been a long time..........2000-02-04
... since I have been able to listen to the music on this recording. I owned it on vinyl, but since I threw out the specific hardware to play those, I have to work from recollection here. I seem to remember three or four nice tracks, some instrumental fillers and the sound of a squashed tomato with some wry comment by Donald Fagen. All in all, an album for the die hard Steely Fan, nowhere near their later work, not from any point of view. Enjoy.
