Great cd. This would be a great gift for someone who wants to enjoy great music. Being a compilation, you get an earful of great tunes. If you are like me, you will soon being buying the cds that the song originated from. I believe that greatest hits are teasers for what the album really hides.
Still Another Pretty Good Donovan Compilation.......2006-07-20
The recordings of "Catch the Wind" and "Colours" are the rerecorded versions done for the original "Greatest Hits" record that came out oh so long ago on Epic Records and I really like the way "Wind" seques into "Atlantis." They're both long and strangely enough seem kind of similar here, almost like they were made to be together. "Maria Magenta" from the "Cosmic Wheels" record has always been a favorite of mine and it just seems to work well with this other stuff. I don't know if I'd have put "Where Your Love Like Heaven" here, but still it was kind of a Donovan hit. "Rock and Roll Souljer (correct title)" though not a big event for Donovan, has always been one of my favorites and I really like that the album closes with it. The problem is that there are so many Donovan complications that it's kind of hard to sort the wheat from the chaff. Four stars.
The best Donovan's album I've heard.......2002-06-21
I've got some Donovan's albums in cheap formats. This is the best one I've heard. These are studio recordings and with a delicious psycodelic band. No solo acoustic recordings.

A Pretty Good Compilation.......2006-07-20
Whoever put together this group of songs seems to have cared. They seem to go together to form kind of a whole. Sadly I can't say that for many of the other Donovan compilations I've seen over the years. And I do wish they would give these things an original name. Calling every third or fourth repackage "Sunshine Superman" is kind of wrong, even if that song is on the CD. Still, I've got this one in my car and have no problem with it, even with the early Pye stuff on it. Not five stars, but I'll give it four.
Sixties folk-rocker from Scotland.......2004-10-22
Originally inspired by Bob Dylan, Donovan began as an acoustic folk-rocker but soon changed to an electric sound that yielded most of his hits although he eventually returned to his acoustic roots.
Donovan evolved his own identity, recording a string of great singles, seven of which made the UK top ten between 1965 and 1968. He also had his share of hits in America although he was less consistent - fewer top ten hits but his biggest hit (Sunshine superman) did better in America than Britain, peaking at one and two respectively. Donovan's other UK top ten hits were Catch the wind, Colors, Mellow yellow, There is a mountain, Jennifer Juniper and Hurdy gurdy man. His only other UK hits were Turquoise, Atlantis and Goo goo Barabajagal Most if not all of these were hits in America, where Wear your love like heaven, Epistle to Dippy and Lalena also charted.
This compilation is easily the strongest single CD of Donovan's music. I am surprised at the price quoted as I review this - more expensive than the double CD. Maybe this will change but until it does, you'll have to decide between buying this somewhere else, buying the double CD or buying a different single CD.
Great starting set of songs.......2004-06-28
I'm not sure why this is an overpriced import, but I managed to get a copy for $20 at a recent Donovan concert. It's a wonderful remastered CD, a great set of songs... and a good place to start if you want to get in to Donovan's music.

I love the PWL sound,Mike Stock,Matt Aitken,And Pete Waterman were three of the greatest producers in the world. here is another great artist that they worked with,Jason Donovan is a refresher,cuz,usually,the PWL Three worked mainly with women(Kylie Minogue,Donna Summer,Bananarama,Sinitta,Sonia) But he is breathtaking,My true favorite song on this album is Too may broken hearts.cause there is.

Jason Donovan is an Outstanding Pop Vocalist and his voice comes from depth of his soul to win hearts of his fans. I heard him and Kylie minogue with this album and he scored on 'Permanent Top' of my collection of Fav Stars. I even possess Jason n Kylie Song videos and his innocense strike the brain's emotional switchboard and you just can't stop loving him. All his songs have great meaning and music. Especially for you is a great Valentine pick, You can depend on me and Nothing Can divide us are touching too. Too many broken hearts...too many dreams could be broken in two is comforting and building up hopes. Sealed with a kiss in Jason's voice is oh so lively promising to send love to his fans too, I guess. Sure Pick, Thats Jason Donovan for Valentine.

Im like alot of you. I loved the S/A/W years... but Jason was never what i would ever have considered good. He always came across as stiff, and really quite boring. Other than his duet with Kylie, he really never brought anything worthwhile to the table. Buy this only if you are a true fan, otherwise save your money!

A Donovan Concert You'll Listen to Again and Again.......2006-07-21
This record was originally released as "Donovan Rising" and was recorded live from several concerts from 1982 to 1986, but it was put together so beautifully that you'd never know. It's been released under several different names and on several different labels. But no matter what label, no matter what cover, no matter what they call it, this is still one fine recording. Listening to this CD, and I'm calling this a CD and not a record, because this was the first Donovan recording to come out on CD, everything before was put out on black vinyl first, you remember those big discs that played on turntables, whoops, I'm digressing, like I was saying, when you play this CD you can almost imagine Donovan as that eighteen-year-old teenager who burst upon the scene with "Catch the Wind" back in 1965. He sounds as young on these songs as he did then.
And you can tell that whoever put this together really cared, really understood Don's music, really went for quality of not only sound, but performance as well. Boy, what I wouldn't have given to be able to spend the hundreds of hours pouring through all the songs and performances, being there through all of that must have been glorious.
Donovan's recording of "Catch the Wind" here sends chills up your spine. His rendition of "Hurdy Gurdy Man" with George Harrison's missing verse is equally chilling. The acoustic versions of "Sunshine Superman" and "Cosmic Wheels" are stunning. The version of "Young Girl Blues" takes me right back to the "Mellow Yellow" period. It has always been one of my favorite songs. I could go on, keep gushing about this fine live record, but I'll stop now. Oh wait! I forget to tell you that this is a must own Donovan disc for anybody who is even remotely interested in his music. You gotta get this one, you really do!

I was never big on Donovon and that variation of the hippie vibe. But, this is a great cd. Check it out if you are interested, it's fun and it's live.
Another Live CD reissue, but not bad.......2002-01-05
This is one of the many repackagings of "Donovan Rising". It acually isn't a bad CD. Donovan performs rather well just by himself. My favorite song on the disc is his brilliant version of 'Catch the Wind', better than the original '65 release and a tad bit over the '69 rerecording. The spoken interlude is a real treat, especially if you're a fan of the Beatles and George Harrison. The rest of the songs are, 'the very best of Donovan', just not the studio versions. Not a bad buy, unless you already have it. Four stars

This is a recording of Donovan Leitch performing all his songs in concert. Try getting the studio version of Donovan's greatest hits it's much better than any other CD compilation I should know!
