Oh yeah!.......2005-10-08
Great CD to listen to while hanging around the house. I was a little disappointed that the songs satriani plays in the dvd set was not exactly the same as found on this disc. Turns out the dvd and the cd were recorded at two different locations. I would have liked the live version of Starry Night on this cd. However, Satriani's Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing is amazing live. I bought the dvd as well as this disc since alternate set lists were played in the dvd (Yngwie's dvd set is much better in my opinion). It's a whole new level to see it in addition to hearing it. And of course the G3 jam is crazy as always. Although the songs are the same for the G3 jam, the guitar playing and solos in the songs are different than on the dvd since the three improvised their riffs on stage. I like the dvd version but the cd is still worth the money.
Great DVD for somebody who has neve seen G3 with E.Johnson.......2005-09-23
The trio (JS, SV and YM) was in a complete shape in their show at Boston in 2003. But still, the package wasn't perfect as it was in G3 when Johnson was playing. It is true that Eric is uncharismatic but his guitar tune and uncompetitive rythym led to a Perfect package along with Steve and Joe. Yngwie is more into speed guitar rather than ryhtmic and fusional tunes(as johnson is). Yngwie's songs were not all good to listen to, meanwhile all of joe's songs were good(As usual). Although the last 3 songs played by the trio were good, they weren't as great as in the original G3. Speed doesn't guarantee a perfect play. To note that at FLEET PAVILION, another G3 is still in bootleg(can't imagine why there is no official release) where John Petrucci, Steve and Joe were playing. There Play was better than this G3 but conspicuously less perfect than the original G3.
WOW!.......2005-04-03
Guitar Central Station next stop......Rocking In The Free World, 12+ minutes of one of the best live songs ever. Amazing!
a great dvd.......2005-03-16
first off vai can play pretty much anything malmsteen can vai recently recorded his first all classical cd with a 100 piece orchestra and critics are saying its composed much better than malmsteens classical cd he just doesnt choose to ruin a song by adding speeds scales were they dont fit when vai comes out playing a 3 neck guitar in the middle of the song he starts to show a little of his amazing sweeps and scales and his scales sound much cleaner than malmsteens when malmsteen comes out he acts like your typical 80s rock poser doing all kinds of dorky things like swinging his guitar behind his back yes he plays some amazing stuff but i agree with other reviewers who say his picking seems to have gotten sloppier lately and he seems to do the same scale over and over now i read hes now a big time drunk and thats why hes obeese and its beginning to ruin his guitar skills well i think that might be true also it doesnt help he has horrible tone in this concert because he chose to have a ton of older marshall stacks cranked up with delay maybe its time malmsteen gets a tsl head and stop trying to play metal on a 70s amp
Perfect but I have another idea..........2005-01-27
I loved this album as a Satriani fan. Vodoo Child was very unique to listen to. This is an audio CD of three unusual men, but you need to see how they play it on stage, so if I didn't get it as a present I'd defenitley buy the DVD to see them on stage...Prefer DVD

G3 with Yngwie is the way to go.......2005-10-20
There was only two ways that G3 could have been better than the original lineup with Eric Johnson. Since Jason Becker is currently confined to a wheelchair, that leaves one solid option, and Steve/Joe selected the best option - Yngwie Malmsteen. Yngwie draws a lot of criticism because most guitarist are jealous of his ability to pioneer neoclassical music on guitar (which he certainly did, and many others like Marty Friedman and Tony MacAlpine and even shredders like Paul Gilbert owe Yngwie a tribute for that). If you like listening to speed guitar with the infusion of elements of blues, classical, and basic rock where appropriate, I recommend grabbing this album and ALSO grabbing anything by Yngwie Malmsteen. Then I recommend graduating to Racer X or Cacaphony. One thing is clear, anyone who denounces Yngwie's playing as mere showiness or hackneyed obviously knows very little about the guitar as an instrument. Too bad.

Why The Fuss?.......2005-07-22
I'm a long-time Neil Young fan, and I respect Michael Moore and his opinion of Bush (whom I respect not at all). Even so, I probably would not have done a review of this disc under normal circumstances. It's just a 3-song EP, after all, and contains three different versions of the same song, at that. But after reading some of the scathing reviews below, I just had to put in my two cents worth.
First of all, it's a great song. And even if most of what's here is available elsewhere, so what? It's still a great song-- all three versions. This disc represents a little slice of American history, will probably only be available for a limited time, and is destined to become a collector's item. And hey, it's only four bucks. Why complain? If you want to complain about something, consider the fact that that idiot in the white house still has another 3 1/2 years in which to do even more damage than he already has.
ROCK ON NEIL YOUNG !!!.......2004-12-02
Cudos go to Neil Young for standing up to his principles. Truthful and unbiased news are so hard to come by now in the U.S. that you have to go on the internet to find anything critical or discerning that is not controlled by the mainstream media who now answer only to the administation and no longer to their own conscience. Thank God for documentary filmmakers like Michael Moore for sticking their necks out to speak up against the status quo that TOO MANY Americans are willing to accept without question...
I highly recommend this CD. Support your beliefs !!!
Keep on "ROCKIN' IN THE FREE WORLD" Neil Young & Michael Moore :)
Eh.... bad move........2004-10-15
Well, I try not to be negative about things (and usually I succeed), but it's truly a travesty that Neil Young let this song be released as a single for the movie. It's disgraceful enough that Neil let the song be used in the movie, but that usage has merits. This single has no point or advantage at all. If you want Rockin' In The Free World, buy Freedom. You'll get RITFW's raunchy electric radio-hit, plus a strong unplugged live version, and a whole host of other good songs, including classics such as Crime In The City and Too Far Gone. Or even better, if you watch Farenheit 9/11 and walk out of the theatre thinking "hey, that song was awesome," then go pick up the Neil Young's Greatest Hits collection that's about to be released. (FYI, the current tracklist on Amazon is kind of messed up, it includes "Hey Hey" and "My My" when really the song is "Hey Hey My My" and Rockin' In The Free World IS included).
Maybe if they gave this single out free as a promotional tool for the movie, it would have some kind of an worthy applicable use, although it would be a horrible sell-out usage that I'd think Neil Young would be above ("won't sing for politicians... makes me look like a joke"). But as it is, there's no reason to buy this single. Go buy a better album/CD, go listen to the radio (you're bound to hear RITFW often enough), or use one of those nifty downloading services to get your own little Rockin' In The Free World for like $0.35 or however much those services cost for one song.
Keep on rolling, people. :)
BOO!!!! STAY AWAY!.......2004-09-02
Ya know... I love Neil Young and I am an avid supporter of the free expressions Michael Moore always presents a rather "dumbed down" america even when I don't agree with his beliefs. BUT...DON'T BUY THIS SINGLE! STAY AWAY! It is the classic Neil Young song, which works well for the movie but this single is an exact copy of what we were given in the movie. I was expecting maybe some periodic jibes from Moore during the remix or some classic Bush-isms but all we are given is the final minute of dialogue from the movie ("fool me once..") and then directly into the song. EXACTLY WHAT THE MOVIE DOES! Talk about trying to make a buck on a movie. like this movie needs it anyway! i support the movie, i support moore, i support young...I DO NOT support this single!!!!
