This excellent 2CD release from BGO features two Shirley Bassey albums originally released in 1974 and 1976. Both released for the first time on CD!. The first "Nobody Does It Like Me" was recorded in the USA following the popularity of Shirley's previous album and single "Never Never Never". This album was designed to place Shirley in the lucrative US adult contemporary market and results in a different sound to her UK recordings around the same period. Shirley'e voice is at its very best, and the overall production is pulled back somewhat compared with her previous UA albums. Now 30 years later, this album sounds better than ever, and listeners can't help but wonder why it wasn't a bigger success. Standout tracks include "Davy" a duet with the songs composer; Bernard Ighner and Paul Anka's "I'm Not Anyone". The album closes with Shirley's beautiful version of Stevie Wonder's "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life". Next is the album "Love, Life and Feelings" from 1976 which placed Shirley firmly back in the UK charts. This album peaked at number 13 and enjoyed a 5 week run in the charts. There is not a single track on this album that does not deserve 5 stars, but for the record you will find many songs associated with Dame Shirley that (strangely) don't appear on many compilations including, "What I Did For Love", "Born To Lose", "Natali" and "If I Never Sing Another Song". Both albums have been expertly re-mastered by the experts at BGO and have never sounded better!

      It's a shame that this album seems to have gone unnoticed in the flood of re-released "Original Jazz Classics"

      I discovered this disc by accident in my High School radio room. The Timmons Trio has the tightest of grooves here, with some really hip arrangements. The title track is worthy of a "best of OJC" compilation.

      This is a great trio in the range of Ahmad Jamal, Red Garland, Tommy Flannagan, but just slightly edgier.

      it really is an excellent disc, with Fred Wesley playing his ... off on trombone, and Dr Lonnie Smith throwing down on the organ. Mark Whitfield is on guitar, with Lenny White on drums, and the disc features Jackson playing some of his best recorded Tenor work....***this is NOT a CD for Jazz traditionalists, it is a Funk/Jazz album, but it is a very good Funk/Jazz album. I like Javon's playing a great deal, he is not about flashy pyrotechnics but instead has great phrasing with the occasional flashy lick thrown in. I hear an advanced sense of harmony in Javon's playing, he seems to make every note count...by the way both Marcus Miller and Branford Marsalis himself have given this album the thumbs up

      Isabelle Antena is the queen of cool and has ridden a tidal wave of popularity in Japan for a couple of decades. If you want a track listing and to sample the sounds, visit iTunes (since Amazon doesn't have either available). Yes, this double-CD is available on her site for only $18 (isabelleantena.com). Wherever you purchase it, every time you play it for guests, people will ask: "WHO IS THIS?" in hushed, excited tones. You get to be the hip music insider.

      Apparently, this is Isabelle Antena's first full purely bossa nova album. It comes complete with covers of Henry Mancini and Tom Jobim songs. This is an extremely happy record. It is the work of a European who has fully assimilated the bossa nova sound.
      The songs she wrote sound like she overdosed on Jobim, and while hallucinating, started writing songs. A majority of the songs are in English however, there are songs in Portuguese and a few in French

      The album kicks off with the Henry Mancini composed song Nothing to Lose that was song by Claudine Longet in Blake Edward's movie The Party. It sets the tone for the whole disc. One of easy, relaxed melodies, emotional availability brought on by summery weather.

      Easy Does It was produced by Isabelle with husband and arranger Denis Moulin, and recorded at their own studio in the South of France in 2004. Life near the sea, sand and sun has clearly had an effect on her work. All the songs are about living near the water and the beauty of nature.
      My favorites have to include:
      Moonlight Dancer
      Your One and Only
      Easy Does It
      Obrigado
      La Pecheresse a la Ligne.
      Her vocals really shine on the latter two, the only songs sung in French, emerging as a perfect combination of latin rhythms and chanson francais.

      Disc Two is a collection of remixes of this album by artists paying homage to Isabelle Antena's work. It is very solid remix project and complements the album well.

      The second CD opens with a loungy remix of Nothing to lose by Thievery Corporation
      Nicola Conte's version of Omerta Bossa is next and builds upon the sound of her original with an arrangement courtesy of an Italian Jazz Aficionado.
      The Belgian acid-jazz artist Buscemi adds more of an electronic-tinged edge to La Pecheresse a la Lingue.
      LaMalice's remix of Easy Does It, focussing on a sample of < > highlights the political nature of one of the more socially conscious songs on the disc. She sings, if Issy Does It then No Shooting, No Fighting, No War! --quite impressive for a bossa nova song, she discusses how her pacifist views are out of step with the realities of contemporary life.
      Yukihiro Fukutomi's Fresh remix adds electronic percussion and makes the overall tune more bouncy and dancefloor friendly.
      The Dr. Drak Mix of Stars called here The Star System, contains the lyrics of the original song as replicated by computer. Yes, thats right, to an electronic samba you hear a monotone voice speak all the lyrics to the original. This has the effect of an alien lifeform coming to earth speaking to you via a voice modulator. Needless to say, it is a curious and somewhat funny track.
      The Musiq for Pleasure remix of Your One and Only turns the bossa nova track into a fierce punk electro-rock style track that would fit well next to Playgroup's Make It Happen.
      All in all, this set is a real pleasure to listen to from start to finish.

      Queen Isabelle did it again.After her Best of presenting most of the bossa she recorded (in the past 25 years) , she's giving this beautiful album , very latin , with songs in english , french and brazilian.My favorites : Omerta bossa , Moonlight dancer and a wonderful version of Mancini's Nothing to lose.
